Monsanto legal assault on U.S.farmers

For any of you following the sordid trail of patented crop seeds, this analysis of Monsanto lawsuits is extraordinary. Thus far, it has been very difficult to get this information, partly due to non-disclosure agreements farmers have made with Monsanto. That it becomes available now is interesting. Syngenta is making a big move this year to take over as the top ge seed purveyor.

The Pain Of Knowledge

I have been asked to share my story. The following statement is true and can be proven. I have been seriously ill since the summer of 1999, and I know without any doubt that my cell phone was the cause of this illness.

This nightmare started just as my trucking company was about to expand. I had started my own business three years earlier and my customer base had trippled by the spring of "99" so I was busy trying to add on a couple of trucks while keeping my own truck busy 6 days a week.

I started using a cellphone the fall of 1998 and had that stupid thing glued to my head all day every day till I started to get headaches. I was so caught up in my expanding business I didn't think much of it. I noticed a place to hook up an ear piece to the cellphone, so I hooked one up and continued to be on the cellphone as much as 4,000 min. a month.

I continued to get the headaches, only they got worse. I began to see a neurologist in Sept. of "99" and I thank God I talked extensivly to an electronics expert first. I bumped into a close friend who has been heavily involved in electronics for over thirty years. This man helped develope some of the technology that has gone into the cellphone industry, needless to say he knows his electronics. I asked John what my cellphone had to do with my headaches, and when I told him how much I used it, he grabed my arm and sat me down to a long and very disturbing conversation.

He is responsable for my not giving up my fight. Believe me when I say if it weren't for that conversation I would have checked out a long time ago.

He reflected on the time we had been volonteer firefighters together. He reminded me of the time he had given a safety class on use of the radios in the fire trucks.

There had been a couple of accidents where we were out on fire calls and firemen grabbed the radio anteneas while people were talking on them, causing a serious burn through their hands.

He had demonstrated how powerful the radios were by holding flourecent lights 6" from the antenna and when the radio was keyed up the lights lite up without contacting the antenna. He went on to say in a nut shell that holding a cellphone against my head was like holding a mini microwave oven against my head on low.

John went on to encourage me to stay strong because I was in for a long fight, a fight he had no clue as to how difficult it would be. I was curious as to why my headaches didn't improve when I went to the head set on the cellphone, and John explained that without proper shielding in the wire on the headset it actually acted as an antenna and channeled the radiowaves directly into the brain through the ear canal.

As I have stated I began to see Doctors in September of "98" and although I have gotten some of them to acknowledge my illness to be caused by a cellphone,it has been all off the record.

Most of the Doctors I deal with think I am crazy even when I try to give them the research to back up my claims.

When I finnally got the first neurologist to accept my knowing that a cellphone caused my symptoms, his response was a shrug of the shoulders and a "what do you want me to do".

He like all the others haven't got a clue as to what microwace poisening or illness is or how to treat it if they did know!!!!

I am being treated by the V.A. Medical center at the moment and that is limited. When I first approched the Vetrans Hospital the emergency room nurse doing the info on the intake started to act funny as my list of symptoms grew. The nurse finally gave in and asked me if I served in the Gulf war, I asked why ,and she said my symptoms were identical to gulfwar syndrom. The Doctors have since put my illness in that classification.

The list of symptoms is long and are chronic:

Headaches: there are several types and locations of head pain. The worst of which is the lightning bolt type pain that drops me to my knees when it hits.

Then there is the ache that is pretty much a constant thing in different degrees. The pain is mostly on the left side where I did most of the calls from. I have pain in my ears and behind my left eye. As I said the pain is there all the time ,it goes from a 2 to 10+ but mostly it is around a 3-5 on a scale of 1-10 Daily.

Insomnia: I haven't slept more than a hour strait in five years, I lay my head down and the anxiety kicks in and its up and down all night.

Fatigue: With insomnia comes fatigue.

Anxiety: I have never experienced anxiety till this injury.

Tinnitus: My ears have been ringing very loud for the past five years.

Eye problems: My left eye has had significant loss in vision and I have suffered much pain in and behind the eyeball.

Nerve Damage: the first neurologist showed me where the nerves come out of the base of the scull at the begining of the spinal colum and cover the scull had been injured (he wouldn't accept at first that a cellphone could damage nerve cells) and were in the process of dying, that is what caused much of the initial severe pain I delt with. Along with my scull being numb to the touch, I also have both numbness and pain in my right thigh. How's this you ask! Well let me tell you, when I took the phone from my head I always carried it on my right side on a loop on my jeans, and if it wasn't on that loop it was sitting on the seat beside me in the truck.

Dementia: I think this is the most desturbing symptom of all, I just put my mother to rest last august, she suffered from Alzheimers' for fifteen years or more, I really can't remember when it started for her. I just know it's now happening to me. Short term memory just doesn't exist and long term is taking a beating as well. The memory problems are significant when you drive for a living. I would look off the road and actually forget I was driving thus ending up off the road in a ditch. Giving up driving was so hard, it's all I have done for the last thirty years and believe me it was a job of passion.

Electro-sensitive: I can't be in front of a computer for very long before I start to get sick, I can't go near cellphone towers or I get sick. Every time I go to the city to the VA I get ill because of all the celltowers. I don't watch TV because I get ill.

Depression: How could you not be depressed????

I KNOW I keep going out of shear anger now, it used to be if you were hurt by something people acted quickly to save others from being hurt. It breaks my heart to see this issue go on without people being at least warned of the possable dangers surounding cellphones.

This has all been proven and will certainly be evident as the growing population of cellphone users become ill years from now because those people did their damage at a slower rate than I did.

Robert Vanechaute

I wish to comment on this issue and will continue to keep commenting on this issue till the day I die. I have been suffering from all the symptoms of a Traumatic Brain Injury for the last ten years from the use of a cellphone from 1998 to 1999. This has left me disabled and unabe to live a normal life and to this date it affects my everyday life to the point it causes hardship between my family and myself, I am considered mentally ill by my fifteen year old daughter and I am constantly fighting with my ex-wife with whom I have been trying to reconcile. We were divorced because of my ex's inability to understand I was actually ill because of a cellphone.Though she now is convinced cellphones are dangerous and she will no longer use one herself. I didn't walk away from a business I started from scracth and was becoming very successful at the time I became ill. My original story is at http://omega.twoday.net/stories/474956 . Please feel free to contact me with any questions I desire to help as many people as I can to avoid the same mistakes I did.

Hello? Hello? Is anybody listening?

Well at least Burgess hasn't cast his mythic spell over Geoffrey Lean at the Independent. Thank goodness some journalists are capable of writing sensible articles - well done Geoffrey Lean. Sian

Focus: Hello? Hello? Is anybody listening?

Five years ago Sir William Stewart warned of the dangers of excessive mobile phone use by children. Why has it taken until this week for us to take note? Geoffrey Lean reports

16 January 2005

Liberating, life-changing technologies have a way of coming back to bite us once we have become addicted to them. Burning fossil fuels, which made industrial civilisation possible, now endangers it through global warming. Television, which brought the world into our sitting rooms, now stands accused of stifling home-grown cultures across the globe. And the internal combustion engine, which enabled lives of previously unimaginable mobility, takes a terrible toll of life in accidents and pollution. Is the same thing about to happen with the mobile phone?

Most of us could now not imagine life without them. Many teenagers say they define their lives. More and more young children are catching the bug. Yet there are increasing signs of trouble in store. Disturbing evidence is accumulating from sound, respected research that the radiation they emit may damage brains, particularly young ones, causing cancer and early senility.

An official report last week, while stressing that there is, as yet, no "hard evidence" of a threat to general public, partly because the harm may take decades to take effect, warned that there are good grounds for concern. And it firmly recommended that the use of mobiles by children should be "minimised".

"I don't think we can put our hands on our hearts and say mobile phones are safe," said Sir William Stewart, a former government chief scientist, who chaired the study. "If there are risks - and we think there may be risks - then the people who are going to be most affected are children. And the younger the child, the greater the risk."

Alarmingly, this is the second time that an official inquiry headed by Sir William has come to this sobering conclusion. The first Stewart report, published in May 2000, produced a series of sensible, achievable recommendations. They included: discouraging children from using mobiles, and stopping the industry from promoting them to the young; publicising the widely varying radiation levels of different handsets so that customers, and parents, could choose those emitting the least; making the erection of all phone masts subject to democratic control, through the planning system, which they at present largely escape; and stopping the building of masts where the radiation "beam of greatest intensity" fell on schools, unless the school and parents agreed. The Government publicly accepted most of these recommendations and then, as The Independent on Sunday has repeatedly pointed out, failed to implement them. In doing so, it has probably lost any chance to curb the use of mobiles by children and teenagers.

Since the first Stewart report, while ministers have done nothing, the use of mobiles by the young has doubled. One in four primary school children now has a handset. Among secondary school students the figure rises to nine out of 10, of whom one in 10 spends more than three-quarters of an hour on them every day.

There are 50 million mobiles in Britain, also twice as many as five years ago, making a staggering 20 billion calls a year. Masts are proliferating to cope with all this traffic. There are already some 40,000 around the country and, as The Independent on Sunday reported last month, thousands more are to be erected over the next three years. Experts predict "an explosion" of them around schools.

Tackling this now, at least five years after the job should have begun, feels like closing the stable door after the foals have bolted. Children and teenagers are not going to give back their phones.

Sir William and his deputy on his first inquiry, Professor Lawrie Challis, have both banned their grandchildren from having mobiles. But effective action is going to have to be much more general - and must come, however late, from the Government.

There are, however, some sensible steps to be taken and - surprise, surprise - they involve going back to the recommendations shamefully ignored in 2000.

First, users of mobiles, young and old, have a right to know what risks they may be taking and how to minimise them. The first Stewart report urged the Government to distribute a leaflet with "clearly understandable information" to every home in Britain.

Ministers actually produced two leaflets, one on phones and one on masts, but restricted distribution to shops, libraries, post offices and doctors' surgeries. And, as last week's report tactfully says, "the extent to which this information helps to inform public opinion is not clear". They should now implement the original recommendation.

The new leaflet should lay out what is known about risks to health, summarise the advice of the Stewart reports, and give tips on how to minimise exposure. These would clearly include using a landline or texting where possible, and keeping mobile conversations short.

Hands-free operation cuts exposure by about half, although the report concludes that the benefits of radiation shield buttons stuck on phones are less clear. And, perhaps counter-intuitively, it is better to use your phone near a mast, where there is a strong signal: when far away, the phone needs to use much more power to communicate.

Even more important, people should be encouraged to buy the phones that emit the least radiation, Levels emitted by different handsets on the market vary at least tenfold, and the first Stewart report recommended that these should be clearly marked on the phones and the boxes. Ministers promised to implement something like this, but did not do so, and last week's report concludes that the information is still "difficult" for the public to obtain.

This, then, is the second step that ministers must now take. Providing the figures prominently with phones and publishing league tables would give consumers the chance to make informed choices, and would encourage manufacturers to drive radiation levels down, benefiting everyone.

Third, the Government should regulate the cynical promotion of phones and accessories to children and young people, intensified since Sir William first warned of the risks to the young.

Fourth, it must finally accept the 2000 report's recommendation on masts near schools. The masts emit much less radiation than the phones themselves, but people are exposed to it for hours at a time, without their consent.

Last month the Court of Appeal opened the floodgates, by overturning the decisions of the local council and a government inspector - and an appeal by John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister - and giving the go-ahead for a mast to be built near three schools in Harrogate.

Experts now expect a rush to build on school grounds, some of the most attractive open spaces for masts in towns and cities. Mr Prescott only had himself to blame for his defeat, because, ludicrously, the official planning guidance from his own department forbids local authorities for taking possible effects on health into account, limiting them to aesthetic considerations only.

This ridiculous and unsatisfactory state of affairs must be the subject of the fifth change.

And, sixth, the Government should exert democratic control over the erection of all masts by bringing them under the planning system. This is already the case in Scotland and Northern Ireland. There is no good reason why it should not be the same in the rest of the country.

So, there are six straightforward measures the Government should take. If ministers had any shame they would implement them immediately.

But don't hold your breath. Judging by the record of the last five years their response is likely to be, "Don't call us: we'll call you."

'We're not Luddites, we just don't want masts near schools'

The parents and children of three schools in Harrogate have taken their fight against a new mobile phone mast to Downing Street and the High Court. Theirs has become a test case that will protect or expose hundreds of schools, with 8,000 more phone masts planned for the next three years.

"We're not the first school to have a run-in with the mobile phone operators, and the operators have lost most of them," says Mark Sheerin, a parent.

"But if they kept chipping away and chipping away, eventually one case was bound to crack for them, and unfortunately it was us."

Harrogate council initially turned down the application for a new mast close to Claro Road, where more than 1,500 pupils attend St Robert's and Woodfield primaries and Granby High School, Harrogate.

That decision was overturned in the High Court last June, and Campus, the Campaign Against Masts Put Up Near Schools, was formed. A 1,700-signature petition was delivered to No 10 in October.

But a month later the Court of Appeal dismissed objections by government lawyers, leaving the mobile phone companies clear winners of the test case.

The Government received £22.5bn from the mobile companies in 3G licence fees, and some of the Harrogate parents feel government lawyers made only a token case at the Court of Appeal hearing and "wanted to lose".

But these are not conspiracy theorists, just ordinary people, concerned about their kids.

Campus chairman Dr Peter Brooks, an engineering lecturer, says: "This is like getting an oil tanker to turn around. As the law now stands, only aesthetic considerations can be used to refuse planning applications for masts: health issues don't count."

Now Campus is hoping a Private Member's Bill will go before Parliament. It recently served Harrogate council with a Notice of Intent, warning of lawsuits if any health problems result from the mast after the upgrade takes place.

"We're not Luddites," says Mark Sheerin, "as adults we're quite happy to use mobiles. If someone said today we can prove these masts are safe, we'd be the first to cheer, but nobody knows. We're not saying tear down masts. We just think they shouldn't be put near schools."

This is most useful, if I get chance I will try to get this into my rubbishing Burgess.

What is a damning inditement of our government is the fact that they have even ignored many of the guidelines put forward by the inept nrpb, such as revoking permitted development rights etc. What does that tell us about our present government in Britain? And what opposition have we got? None.

There is nothing to choose between the Lib Dems and Labour, except perhaps the fact that Labour don't even pretend to be concerned, whereas the Lib Dems carp on about their 'Green' policies and try to claim an honourable position on the issue, when they are the only party with the bare-faced cheek to field a candidate from the MOA and expect no one to notice, reassuring those that do notice that Nokia Davies will have a personality/ideology transplant if elected. As for the Tories and UKIP, well, let us not forget that they are the parties that (traditionally) represent the interests of big business and capitalist strategies. While it is easy for them to make claims while in opposition, I fail to see how they would be able to reconcile their promises with some of their core backers and voters among the multinationals. Moreover, I still remember the treachery of Michael 'Vlad' Howard, John Redwood and others from the poll tax etc.

I'm afraid it doesn't leave us with many options, does it? If there is no Green candidate or like-minded independent, what do we do? Spoil the ballot paper, or abstain?

Decisions, decisions, decisions!

Amanda

HUGE brainwashing operation is going on in the United States

Yeah, it's sickening. As I've said, it is a HUGE brainwashing operation going on in the United States performed by the mass medias, and even our education system is infiltrated by these pukes. They make it POPULAR to support mainstream thoughts on any subject, and any disagreement is UNPOPULAR and the name calling ensues. And since elementary school, you are taught to do what is POPULAR and avoid everything that is UNPOPULAR. That is the primary reason for public schooling in the first place, in my opinion. It is set up so that people get used to doing what is considered POPULAR or POLITICALLY CORRECT. People who do not do what is NORMAL are considered freaks, or losers, or whatever.

This STRONGLY encourages people to stay with the mainstream view of things, because if they do not, they are considered wierd, losers, or whatever other names they use to discredit people. What this creates is a bunch of non-thinking ROBOTS. The people in control of the money and the media, do not want free thinkers in society. Free thinkers are their ONLY threat to their power structure. That is why they work so hard against free thinkers, by creating a system where people who think outside the box are labelled and discredited.

Most smart people know how this works, and the brainwashing is ineffective on them. The sad part is that those of us who are smart and can think for ourselves are in the MINORITY. The MAJORITY of people are the brainwashed people who do ANYTHING to stay in the STATUS QUO and do what is POPULAR or NORMAL. The mere fact that there are people out there who want to incarcerate people who do not agree with them is proof that this world is controlled by evil people.

I believe that is the main flaw of humanity itself. The fact that people cannot agree to disagree, leads to wars, conflict, and just about every problem we have in this world. It is totally psychological. People have to think they are right, because they form just about every belief they have about the world around them from what they feel is right. If they realize they are wrong, it means that 90 percent of their beliefs are also wrong. So to protect their silly little view of the world, they will go to just about any means/methods of proving they are right. Instead of just changing their view of the world, they will attack anyone or anything that challenges their view. These people are the main TOOLS of the oppressors. Because they are easiest to control. As long as the oppressors maintain the NORMAL view of the how the world is, they can controll these people with ease. When a shift is needed in world view, they BARRAGE you with "authority sources", and uses the mainstream as their main tool to achieve this. See people want to be popular. And so the ONLY thing they need to do to change peoples minds is to make the view they want people to have POPULAR. This is easy. All they have to do is make it well known. People by nature are pack animals and want to agree with the pack. It is a sick concept, and our own TELEVISIONS and NEWSPAPERS are the very things that control us. People will never realize this though, because they love being entertained. They would rather be entertained than know the truth. Especially because the truth is not "The good guy always wins", "Happily ever after", etc...

I just want you to realize that it is not all Americans that are criminals. George Bush actually lost the 2004 election but he cheated, because the electronic voting machines that count the votes are owned by Republicans who are also NSA, CIA members. They changed the vote totals on election night, and still BARELY won. They had to change so many totals, that they gave themselves away. It was so obvious, to anyone with a brain, this election was sabotaged. In one county in Ohio, there were more votes for Bush than there were even Registered Voters in the county!! This is an obvious fraud, and this information was on an OHIO GOVERNMENT WEBPAGE!! But our country is so controlled by these oppressors, that they are able to cover all these scandals up. It is not very hard either. All you need to do is control the mainstream media. Millions of people know that 911 was a government inside job, or that the election was stolen. But since the mainstream story is that Bush won the election, that is the view held by most of the unthinking people in this country.

Sorry for the long email, my point is, that most Americans in this country actually voted against George Bush and his criminal regime. They just couldn't do anything about it. You don't know how bad most of us want to remove that regime from this country. He is sending us down a road where there is no end but utter destruction. That is in fact the GOAL. America was created from it's inception to be destroyed at a later date. To make America the strongest power in the world, they had to give its citizens unfounded liberties and freedoms. But they never intended us to keep these freedoms forever. They knew after America became the number one power, and they were able to use America to achieve their goals, they would have to destroy it to create their one world government. Think about it. They cannot create a one world government with a world leader, when there is this freedom loving country where the people are nationalistic and would not follow a world leader. Also, they had to give the people here the right to bear arms, for security, because they know a nation with an armed citizenry is the best protection from invasion. The people in control know this. BUT, now that they have control of most of the world, America is one of the only countries in the world that they cannot control with a one world dictator. It's citizens are too well armed to make them slaves. That is why they are using America to commit war crimes and do all these evil shit. They are doing it on purpose. They are going to use America to commit evil until countries band together to destroy America for them. That is what the controllers WANT. They want America destroyed. They aren't going to do it themselves. All they have to do is have America commit crimes against nations, until the nations band together to destroy America. After that happens, it'll be easy for them to create their one world government. Every other country is practically disarmed, and would be easy to police with the United Nations and other militaries. The United States is the only obstacle right now to their goal of making everyone in the world slaves to their system.

After America is destroyed, a one world government will be put into place. It will be policed by a international police, and the people, being mostly disarmed, will not be able to do anything about it.

Once that happens, everyone will be outfitted with those RFID tracking chips, and will have to use the chips to buy and sell and everyone will essentially be SLAVES. You do not have to worry Jacques, you hate America, and so do the controllers. They want America destroyed at this point. We are their only obstacle. They cannot make Americans slaves because we are too well armed as a citizenry. That is why they are turning the world against America, by having America do all this horrible stuff. But the thing is, it is not the citizens of America that want this done. The majority of the citizens are as fed up as you are. But there are a few brainwashed people that make ALL Americans look bad, and they are just helping with the destruction of America. They do not even realize what they are doing. They do not realize that the people in charge want America destroyed. They believe the lies, and are helping the controllers destroy my country, for the eventual goal of one world government.

It is sad for me to even think about all this, because I love my country. But the eventual goal is a one world government. And they need America destroyed to accomplish this. And until America is destroyed, they are going to use America to achieve their goals. And they can be as ruthless as they want, because it creates hate toward America, which is what they want also. So it is a win-win situation for our controllers. They get to use America to achieve their goals, until America is destroyed and they get their one world government. In the end, they win. But that is how it has been for the past 300 years. Without being able to see the big picture, no one will be able to stop this takeover. The oppressors put out so many lies and misinformation, that it is impossible to know the complete truth, because there is so much conflicting information out there, and that is their goal. Without being able to see the whole picture, we will never be able to stop them.

As for you Jacques, you can rest in peace knowing America WILL in the end be destroyed. Because that is what the controllers want. So do not fret, you hate America, and that is what the controllers want. That is why they use America to achieve their goals. Win-Win...for THEM.

God save us all.

Andy.

Troops Out Now! - the Momentum is Building!

On Saturday, January 15, the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday, activists and representatives from dozens of labor, community, anti-war, and international solidarity organizations joined veterans clergy and military family members on the steps of New York City Hall to announce their intention to march to Central Park on March 19 under the slogan, "Troops Out Now!"

Nearly one hundred activists assembled at City Hall despite the bitter cold, carrying placards with pictures of Dr. King and the words "Troops Out Now! March on Central Park, March 19!"

Speakers included NY City Council member Charles Barron, Brenda Stokely, President of DC 1707, Larry Holmes of the International Action Center, Rev. Herbert Daughtry, former Attorney General Ramsey Clark, Chris Silvera, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamster Local 808 and President of the Black Teamsters Caucus, Leilani Dowell of Queers for Peace and Justice, Kim Rosario, mother of a soldier currently stationed in Iraq, Amos Hoff of the New York AIDS Housing Network, Nora Soul of Artists and Activists United for Peace, Mel Stephens of ACT UP, Nellie Bailey of the Harlem Tenants Council, and others.

The coalition announced its plans to march to Central Park on March 19 to demand the immediate, complete, and unconditional withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Speakers also stressed the importance of ending, not only the war in Iraq, but the war against working people here in the U.S. and the ongoing occupation of Haiti, Afghanistan, and Palestine.

Anti-war advocates plan March rally

BY DEBORAH S. MORRIS
STAFF WRITER

January 16, 2005

On the birthday of civil rights activist the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., anti-war advocates yesterday demanded that U.S. troops be withdrawn immediately from Iraq and announced plans for a March 19 demonstration in Central Park.

"Mayor Bloomberg and President [George W.] Bush barred us from holding a rally in Central Park during the Republican convention. That was unnecessary, undemocratic, unconstitutional and it's not going to happen this time," said City Councilman Charles Barron (D-Brooklyn), referring to the GOP national convention last summer.

Barron was joined on the steps of City Hall by former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, the Rev. Herbert Daughtry of Brooklyn and about 40 other anti-war activists from a group called the Troops Out Now Coalition.

In the weeks and months before the convention, Central Park became a controversial touchstone after the Parks Department denied the umbrella activist group United for Peace and Justice a permit to use the Great Lawn for a rally expected to attract 250,000 people. The department said a crowd that large would damage the lawn.

Dustin Langley, an organizer of yesterday's rally, said the Troops Out Now Coalition applied last month for a permit to march in Central Park and members of the group already have met with Parks Department officials.

"We applied for the permit very early, so that if there is a problem getting a permit we have plenty of time to deal with that problem," Langley said. "Whether if it's by legal action, whether we have to protest outside City Hall or outside Bloomberg's house, [Police Commissioner] Ray Kelly's house. Because we are going to the park one way or the other."

Participants in the march, scheduled for the second anniversary of the day the U.S.-led coalition invaded Iraq, are expected to step off at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem and head south to Central Park.

"We are being flexible. We have asked for several different areas within the park," Langley said. "We are going in with good faith. Central Park has become symbolic of civil rights."

Kim Rosario of Bushwick, whose son, Pvt. Joshua Morales, 19, has been stationed since September in Ramadi, Iraq, was one of many speakers at the rally, which rang with chants of "Bring the troops home now" and the display of signs demanding the same. She said true support for the troops does not come with just putting a magnet on your car.

"If you truly support our troops, you want them to come home and be safe," Rosario said. "You would speak out and write to politicians, march, you'd protest, because they don't belong there. Bring the troops home now."

Activists Gear Up To Protest Iraq War On 2nd Anniversary Of Its Start JANUARY 15TH, 2005 from NY1

Lawmakers and anti-war activists are planning to mark the two year anniversary of the Iraqi war, by rallying in Central Park.

City Council member Charles Barron joined dozens of protesters in front of City Hall Saturday afternoon to announce the event, which will be held on March 19th.

The group says the billions of dollars being spent on the war should be better spent on health care, education, and jobs.

The protesters took time to honor the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., and say he would have been protesting with them, if he were alive today.

"Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. who went beyond civil rights, went to human rights in his anti-war stance against the war in Vietnam, is appropriate for everyone who loves Dr. King should be against the Iraqi the war today," said Barron.

"On March 19, 2005 – second anniversary of this terrible invasion and war in Iraq – New York is going to rock. The people of this city, the people of the surrounding area, are going to march on Central Park," anti-war activist Larry Holmes.

"We're going to be out there on the 19th; we're going to try to get as many people about there, because most people, the people they don't poll, those are the people that are against the poll and they're going to be speaking up," said Brenda Stokely of Million Worker March.

The group says they have already obtained a city permit for the rally and march.

On January 12, sixteen Democrats in the House of Representatives sent a letter to President Bush calling on him to begin the immediate
withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. (The letter and list of signers is
included below.)

This letter is a clear indication of the growing opposition to this colonial war, a war that has taken the lives of more than 100,000 Iraqi people and nearly 1400 U.S. soldiers.

This growing opposition highlights the importance of taking to the streets on March 19 to demand "Troops Out Now."

LETTER TO PRESIDENT BUSH FROM 16 MEMBERS OF CONGRESS

January 12, 2005

The Honorable George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear Mr. President,

We write to urge you to take immediate steps to begin the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.

Although the initial invasion of Iraq may have occurred with minimal troop deaths, the subsequent occupation of the country has been anything but successful. Already more than 1,300 American troops have lost their lives since the war began on March 19, 2003. At least 10,000 American troops have been injured as well, and it is impossible to know exactly how many thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians have been killed.

Despite the enormity of the war’s casualties, the Iraqi insurgency continues to grow stronger with every passing day.

Iraq is no closer to becoming a stable democracy today than it was two years ago, as evidenced in recent weeks by the daily torrent of
insurgent attacks on American forces and Iraqi civilian leaders. On January 4th, insurgents assassinated Ali Haidari, the governor of the Iraqi province that includes Baghdad. Just as devastating to the prospect of democracy, on December 30th, al-Jazeera satellite channel reported that all 700 electoral workers in Mosul quit their posts out of fear of being killed. Two weeks later, on January 10th, the entire 13-member electoral commission in the Anbar province, just west of Baghdad, resigned after being threatened by insurgents. If even Iraqi election officials fear for their lives, how can we possibly expect Iraqi citizens to feel safe going to the polls? How can we continue to put our own troops in harm’s way, the continued targets for Iraq’s thousands of malcontent insurgents?

It has become clear that the existence of more than 130,000 American troops stationed on Iraqi soil is infuriating to the Iraqi people - especially because Saddam Hussein did not possess weapons of mass destruction and did not have a connection to the tragic events of September 11th, 2001 or to the al Qaeda terrorist organization. Indeed, the very presence of Americans in Iraq is a rallying point for dissatisfied people in the Arab world. The events of the last two years have not only intensified the rage of the extremist Muslim terrorists, they have also ignited civil hostilities in Iraq that have made Americans and Iraqis substantially less safe. Therefore, by removing our troops from the country, we will remove the main focus of the insurgents’ rage.

Again, while it may be logistically difficult to immediately remove every American soldier, we urge you to take immediate action to begin the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq. This is the only way to truly support our troops. Thank you for your consideration of this request.

Sincerely,

Representaives

Meteorologist claims Global Warming is solar system wide, and not just an earth problem

An interesting clip from MANY HI-RESOLUTION VIDEOS OF THE 9/11:

http://thunderbay.indymedia.org/uploads/north-demolition-pops.avi

Along with the nice dust squibs, something very interesting happens in this video beginning almost exactly at the 5 second mark - at the same time that the camera pans down slightly. This is the most striking example I have seen of the "counter-flow" phenomenon, where dust flom the debris cloud is sucked back into the center of the collapse as if being pulled into the sub-basements.

If you watch it in slo-mo you can see that the thick dust trails streaming back from the larger pieces as they fall are not drifting down in the wake of the pieces, but are actually flowing *up *and back toward the centerline of the tower. It almost looks like the video is playing backwards... I realize that some of this is only apparent movement caused by the camera panning down, but at least at the beginning there really is a backwards flow of the thick dust, as if it's being vacuumed away from the pieces. More about those thick (as in coarse powdered metal) dust trails:
http://st12.startlogic.com/~xenonpup/dust%20trails/

The counterflow seems to start at the same time that the "atomic glow" lights up the left side of the frame, making me think that the two are related. Probably not a thermobaric device in the traditional sense of dispersing a cloud of fuel and then igniting it but similar in principle, maybe the fabled a-neutronic bomb:

"Riconosciuto's talents were much in demand. He had created the a-neutronic bomb (or "Electro-Hydrodynamic Gaseous Fuel Device"), which sank the ground level of the Nevada test site by 30 feet when a prototype was tested. *Samuel Cohen*, the inventor of the neutron bomb, said of Riconosciuto: "I've spoken to Michael Riconosciuto (the inventor of the a-neutronic bomb) and he's an extraordinarily bright guy. I also have a hunch, which I can't prove, that they both (Riconosciuto and Lavos, his partner) indirectly work for the CIA."

Riconosciuto's bomb made suitcase nukes obsolete, because it achieved near-atomic explosive yields, but could be more easily minaturized. You could have a suitcase a-neutronic bomb, or a briefcase a-neutronic bomb, or simply a lady's purse a-neutronic bomb. Or just pull out your wallet for identification and... The Meridian Arms Corporation, as well as the Universities of California and Chicago owned a piece of the technology."
http://educate-yourself.org/cn/2001/riconosciutoandtimosman8nov01.shtml

Whatever caused it, it looks like the dust cloud blanketing lower Manhattan would have been much bigger and more destructive absent this counterflow effect.

Alaska's retreating glaciers seen as evidence Earth is warming

http://www.remineralize.org

We are fooling ourselves if we assume that increased surface heating of parts of the Earth from "global" warming can not increase severe weather of all kinds including tornadoes (2004 shattered previous record), blizzards, frosts and freezes (year-round) and EXTENDED cold spells and, "paradoxically," the differential heating and cooling imbalance can quite plausibly help iniatiate the transition from interglacial to glacial periods, if the soils of the Gaiasphere are seriously demineralized/acidified, as at present (typical late-interglacial ecological conditions, yet further depleted by 6 billion "takers").

Are any of you still not aware of the free books by John Hamaker and myself at http://www.remineralize.org You may go there and read the synopses and decide if you'd like to download the books. At the least I think you will find they can help us all think more holistically...

SCIENCE: Photos prove that glaciers are dwindling

NED ROZELL

ALASKA SCIENCE

(Published: January 9, 2005)

SAN FRANCISCO -- People picked up their newspapers on thousands of doorsteps in this city recently and saw two pictures of Glacier Bay on the front page, under the headline "Alaska's retreating glaciers seen as evidence Earth is warming."

One photo provided by glaciologist Bruce Molnia showed Muir Glacier in 1941. Molnia compared it to a photo he took in 2004 that shows Muir Glacier's retreat out of the picture in 60 years.

About 15 national reporters attended a press conference on the disappearing glaciers and other changes in Alaska's landscape at the American Geophysical Union's annual meeting in San Francisco, which this year attracted more than 11,000 scientists. Joining Molnia as a speaker were Matt Nolan of UAF's Water and Environmental Research Center and Ken Tape of the Geophysical Institute. Nolan showed his photos of shrinking McCall Glacier in the Brooks Range and Tape showed photos of how the Arctic has gotten shrubbier from the 1940s to the present.

Reporters scribbled notes as they looked at the images, which show how quickly the North has warmed in the last century, especially the last 50 years.

"When you put pictures in front of somebody, you don't have to say anything," said Molnia, who works for USGS in Reston, Va., but has a home in Fairbanks. Molnia spent the summer of 2004 traveling to Glacier Bay and Kenai Fjords, trying to find the exact spots where earlier photographers captured glaciers on film. Sometimes finding the cairns (rock piles) of glaciologists who took photographs from the spots decades earlier, Molnia snapped new photos, including the color one of Muir and Riggs glaciers that appeared on the front page of the Dec. 17, 2004, San Francisco Chronicle and accompanied a story about Alaska's melting glaciers by David Perlman.

Nolan showed his comparison of McCall Glacier, featuring a photo taken by glaciologist Austin Post in 1958 along with a photo Nolan snapped with his pocket-size digital camera in 2003.

"All the glaciers in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge are retreating from their most extended positions thousands of years ago, and the only scientific explanation is climate change," said Nolan, as quoted by Perlman in the Chronicle article.

Tape took the laser pointer and displayed several pairs of photos of Alaska's North Slope that show the encroachment of shrubs. A government photographer took the huge-negative, Ansel-Adams style black and white originals in the 1940s, and Tape duplicated them with a digital camera in recent years. He explained how shrubs make the North Slope warmer by absorbing more sunlight and how shrubs along riverbanks have restricted river channels and perhaps attracted more moose north over the Brooks Range. The changes he has detailed along with Matt Sturm and Charles Racine of the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory have all happened in about 60 years, "a blink of an eye in geological time," Tape said.

The use of photographs to document change in the North is a technique more scientists are using, enough that it merited a poster session on the subject at the conference. Molnia said his future work includes revisiting about 100 of the places in Denali National Park that mountaineer and photographer Brad Washburn photographed in the 1930s and 1940s to compare changes from then until now. Molnia tried to duplicate them in the summer of 2004, but the air was too smoky. Along with documenting changes in Alaska Range glaciers, Molnia will also benefit from changes in technology since Washburn climbed the peaks.

"Brad used 60-pound cameras for his work," Molnia said. "We'll do a lot of our stuff with digital cameras."

Iraq War and WMD: Why My Brother Died

In a well-written, very strong, and deeply patriotic essay printed in the Los Angeles Times, Dante Zappala writes about the death of his brother, Sgt. Sherwood Baker, in Iraq. Zappala speaks truth to power in an essay Edmund Burke would quickly recognize and support: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing."

Letter to the WHO in response to its Precautionary Framework

Cindy Sage, Sage Associates in Santa Barbara, California, USA has sent the following letter and attachment to the WHO in response to its Precautionary Framework.

January 14, 2005

International EMF Project
World Health Organization
Geneva, Switzerland

Attention: Dr. Emilie van Deventer, WHO EMF Program
Subject: Framework to Develop Precautionary Measures in Areas
Of Scientific Uncertainty (Draft October 2004)

This letter of comment is written to address deficiencies in the Framework document related to scientific uncertainty and precautionary action.

WHO has not met its stated objective that “encourages the use of rational, well thought-out precautionary measures based on scientific principles.” (Page 4). WHO has essentially abdicated its role to protect public health in this Framework.

Rather than recommending that new public exposure limits and safety factors be developed that reflect the body of new scientific evidence for risk at exposure levels far below existing ICNIRP and IEEE standards, WHO makes no recommendation for change in these limits. WHO cannot justify this inaction on the basis of insufficient scientific evidence, unless it rests on the pre-requisite of conclusive scientific evidence of harm. WHO cannot defend its de-facto support of existing exposure limits if reasonable interim action based on precautionary principles and a “weight of evidence” assessment of the scientific literature serves as the basis for its Framework.

There is sufficient scientific evidence for a clear and consistent association of childhood leukemia and electromagnetic field (ELF-EMF) exposure at 2 to 4 mG, based on decades of published scientific studies, meta-analyses and public health agency reviews.

Dr. Emilie van Deventer
January 14, 2005
Page 2

Evidence for an association between chronic exposure to radiofrequency radiation at low-intensity levels from mobile phones is sufficient to warrant pro-active policy recommendations from WHO, including new safety limits, given the large public health consequence of ignoring “early warning signs” in published scientific studies.

WHO’s decision not to recommend the obvious precautionary actions commensurate with the weight of scientific evidence now available on ELF-EMF exposure and childhood and adult cancers, ALS and miscarriage is unwarranted, and risks both public health and public confidence in WHO.

WHO’s decision not to take a stronger position with respect to children’s use of mobile phones, on telecom marketing that targets children, and on reasonable precaution in siting of new sources of radiofrequency radiation in communities is ill-advised and contrary to accepted precautionary principle-based action. For WHO to say that limiting the use of mobile phones by children now should be discounted as a possible policy option because its “effectiveness is likely to be limited” is neither prudent or justified. WHO has stood silently and watched the deployment of a new technology world-wide without issuing health advisories, and now justifies it’s lack of action on the basis that “its already out there and people use it”. The public came to use and depend on this technology without knowledge of possible risk of harm. Had warnings been made earlier in the roll-out of wireless communications, prudent public health recommendations would not be so difficult to make now. Providing a list of possible actions, without recommending any action reasonably based on prudent health policy is insufficient and may only result in greater public health harm in the long run.

Recommendations that would be expected, based on the weight of scientific evidence available to WHO would reasonably include:

Dr. Emilie van Deventer
January 14, 2005
Page 3

• reduction in public exposure limits for ELF-EMF and RF in line with exposure levels linked to increased risk of disease

• incorporation of a safety factor for both ELF-EMF and RF below exposure levels reported to increase risk of disease and lack of well-being as defined in the WHO constitution

• guidance to utilities on the need to reduce ELF-EMF exposures in siting and construction of new power lines and substations, and mitigation of existing sources where exposures exceed new limits

• promotion of “mobile-phone free” public areas for sensitive persons

• directives to telecom companies to comply with interim prudent avoidance options that would
a) stop marketing to children and the “youth” market,
b) produce mobile phones that operate only with earpieces,
c) site transmitting antennas to reduce public exposures below levels reported to disrupt sleep and produce health complaints, and
d) address existing siting problem areas where public concern on RF exposure has been demonstrated.

I am resubmitting my letter dated January 14, 2004 on the Draft Framework to address issues previously covered that still largely apply to the current Framework document.

Respectfully submitted,

Cindy Sage
