Rev. Pat Robertson calls for US to kill Hugo Chavez
Every day the news seems worse. A "CHRISTIAN" man calls openly for the assassination of the president of another country! Now how on earth can we let that go unpunished. Other countries will retaliate, but probably not against Bush himself, but against the rest of us. This is unacceptable behavior. We don't want anyone calling for the assassination of Bush, and we should not be treating Pat Robertson's behavior as either patriotic or permissible, especially given his stature.
Speaking of religion, people seemed to be surprised that Billy Graham is a Democrat. In my memory, he was about the only evangelist who could bridge the gap between the evangelists and the mainstream Christians.
I was optimistic for a bit that CNN might really do the whole job in their hour-long documentary, Dead Wrong. But it appears that its overall approach was to say things about faulty intelligence without implying any real wrong doing on the part of Bush ... They never mentioned whistle blowers like Wilson. The only person they seemed to want to seriously dump on was Tenet.
Robertson called for the assassination of Venezuela's president

August 22, 2005
Pat Robertson, host of Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club and founder of the Christian Coalition of America, called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
From the August 22 broadcast of The 700 Club:
ROBERTSON: There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent. [CNN reported that on Monday's broadcast of "The 700 Club" Pat Robertson had called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.[1] -- The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network said that assassination was "a whole lot cheaper than starting a war." -- "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with," he said. "This is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen." -- "Venezuela is the fifth largest oil exporter and a major supplier of oil to the United States. The CIA estimates that U.S. markets absorb almost 59% of Venezuela's total exports," AP noted in a report on Robertson's remarks that appeared in *USA Today*.[2] -- The show can be viewed on the web site of "The 700 Club." http://www.cbn.com/700club/index.asp -- Robertson's remarks were not off-handed comments, but rather a prepared talk that followed a long video report entitled "Hugo Chavez v. America."
