MILITARY RECRUITERS OUT OF OUR SCHOOLS - U.S . TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ
* please forward widely! - Campus Antiwar Network*
[Please note: The Counter-Recruitment Contingent for September 24th has been a student initiative. The Campus Antiwar Network - the democratic grassroots national network of independent campus organizations - made this call with its co-sponsors on June 13th. As a "contingent," the counter-recruitment march is part of the larger march that day. As students are the ones targeted by the military recruiters, it seems fitting that student counter-recruitment activists should organize this contingent. And it is fitting that non-student organizations support these students in this initiative.
CAN has done tremendous organizing this year, with counter-recruitment actions from coast to coast on campuses. Actions at Seattle Community College, City College (the City College 4), San Francisco State University (the SFSU 3) and NYU (concerning the CIA) are only a few of the more well known actions. The news media has covered these protests that have caused recruiters to leave campuses. Democracy Now has interviewed CAN activists, and Elizabeth Wrigley-Field (NYU), Katrina Yeaw (SFSU 3), Hadas Thier (City College 4) gave a great workshop to an overflow crowd of students and others at Socialism 2005 on July 3rd. Jorge Torres, an organizer of the SCCC protests, moderated. See photos and download this great workshop at http://www.traprockpeace.org/can_c-r_03july05.html
CAN is student-owned and operated. It is great, in my opinion, that students are taking the lead concerning counter-recruitment protests on September 24th. Let's give them our encouragement and support. The Peace Train is marching in solidarity side by side with the student contingent that day. See below on how you or your organization may co-sponsor or endorse this student led effort.
Thank you. Charlie Jenks]
