Levels of Microwaves in Brighton and Hove extreme cause for concern

Letter published in Wave magaxine

I got the following letter published in the latest issue of Wave mag (dist c 40,000 throughout South East) by proxy (a homeopath friend).

Best, Gary Kemp

The levels of microwaves in Brighton and Hove are giving me extreme cause for concern.

My research has revealed hundreds of ill health clusters of cancer, leukaemia, epilepsy and other conditions all over the UK which independent researchers such as Dr Gerald Hyland have investigated and directly attribute to local phone masts. With over sixty masts in Brighton, whose power has recently been increased for picture messaging and so forth (3G) the future looks very grim.

The recent BBC programme "Should I worry.." on microwave communications failed to mention the huge cancer cluster in the village of Essington which its presenter supposedly investigated for the effects of the phone masts there. It also incorrectly stated that mobile communications use near microwave frequencies. They use actual microwave frequencies.

I note a message to campaign group Mast Sanity from a Geoff Williams of Southport: " After seven years we are still trying to get the mast relocated without success. The mast has destroyed the lives of many of our people and we have lost another four in the last six months due to cancer related illnesses".

The amount of evidence is staggering. Well documented effects of these microwaves include cataracts, retina damage, eye cancer, rapid cell aging, cellular DNA repair interference, scalp nerve damage, joint pain, multiple sclerosis, digestive problems, asthma, thyroid conditions, embryo damage, early dementia and others.

Industry watchdog Powerwatch states on its website:"It is the regular cellphone users, and people next to them in cars, trains, buses etc, who are likely to show the adverse health effects".

As a Homeopath, I find it unbelievable that phone masts, and recently a TETRA, should be on the roof of the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Nurses in the maternity ward at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, Cheshire, reported long ago on the unusually high incidences of miscarriages, exhaustion and migraines since a phone mast was erected on the wards' roof.

What does the body count have to be?

--------

I went to Essex General hospital in colchester, Essex last week and couldn't believe the enormous mast in the grounds with masses of equipment. There is also a mast on top of Ipswich --Hospital, Suffolk.

There's no limits to the absurdity

(excerpt)

Several months ago I sent pictures of 3G antennas that had been erected near residents in the city Tel Aviv. The residents are going to fight in the court, and now they are going to deal with a second lawsuit: they had a quarrel with the owner of the house who receives money for the antennas on the roof. During their fight, the owner told them angrily: "I will cause you cancer!" (it doesn't matter that he is already doing it), "I will file a suit against you" (the owner, against the irradiated citizens). It's serious, they took a second lawyer.

The residents had an interesting episode when they called to someone from the Env. ministry to measure the radiation. Since they had received an extensive explanation about frequencies that they are exposed to (it was found with an analyzer), they were interested to know how exactly the ministry representative was measuring the radiation. He admitted that he was measuring a frequency that does not exist there, but he had a "good" excuse: he said that if he wanted to measure another frequency, he would have had to give the device for calibration. So what's easier than just trying to fool the citizens. Needless to say, they will invite someone else to measure.

The Einstein school parents came to a parliment meeting today, and yelled at the health ministry, the army representatives, and everybody that was there and is involved in the huge army antennas near the school. Two parents yelled while the government people just looked at them with empty looks. The parents told them to cut it out, all the stories they try sell them that there's no radiation, they called them see how you send your children to such a school near antennas, you wouldn't do it and you sit here telling us stories. They said that the army did not buy the land, and they endanger the children just for money, while living from the taxes that the parents pay them.

Also, they brought their small children who are also worried from all that they see around them and one small girl said that there are so many antennas there, that it's "really too much" (she's about 8 years old).

A new cancer cluster was published yesterday in the national newspaper. In a town near an army base, 12 people have cancer, all of them lately, all of them near the antennas. At first they didn't talk about it, because they didn't want to prevent tourism to the town, but now they feel they can't take it anymore and call the government to investigate. The Environment ministry said that measurements in the town showed there was "no exceeding radiation".

Osafia residents will file a suit against the cellular companies

Several months ago I informed you that 188 people got cancer in areas near cellular antennas in Osafia village. 83 of them have already died, and new cases are found all the time. I bring the main details translated from today's article in the local newspaper:

Osafia residents will file a suit against the cellular companies

Hadid Rasho
Yediot Haifa 29.10.2004

Dozens of Osafia's residents got organized this week in order to file a suit against the cellular companies, to the district court. The sum is 5 million shekels. The lawer is Salah Maron, who tells: "The suit will include also the power company because of the huge transformers in the village, that cause also, according to experts, dangerous radiation. We had professional consultation with experts in the field, and we found that scienfically, it is possible to connect between the cellullar antennas radiation and cancer disease, of which many residents in the village have died."

Five years ago, furious residents burned the antennas farm that was located near the village. Hundreds of policemen did not succeed in stopping the people who protested, and the rage that was accumulated in the village after dozens of Osafia residents had got cancer and part of them died. The residents believed then, as now, that the radiation caused the multitude of cancer cases and deaths in suffering of many of those people.

These days, there is no reception in the village, because of absense of communication antennas. The coalition for public health (which includes 20 environmental groups) asked the Health Ministry to map the cancer disease in the arabic population. The reason for their request is lack of publication of the cancer situation among the arabic population, although there is a dramatic increase in cancer morbidity among the arabic population, and although such a survey was done for the jewish population. The Health Minitry refused with the explanation that they don't have enough budget. The coalition asked the health minister to interfere, and give enough resources for this work, like it was done for the jewish population.

Dr. Zamir Shalita says, that it is possible that the transformers and the power lines contribute to the illness. He was there on the 20th, and there was low radiation then. It is not exactly like the newspaper says that there are no antennas there, there are, but when formal people (ex Environment ministry person, currently works in an air-pollution industry funded body, Cities Association) came there, there was lower radiation than usual, according to Dr. Shalita.

Why was there lower radiation? Dr. Shalita: "probably because Ehud Neaman [from cities association] put the large meter with a mace the size of King Ahashverosh on the tender, and only the blind residents of Osafia couldn't see it. Of course, this tender parked near the local council before we went to the area, and the companies were organized to reduce the power".

The people who burnt the antennas in the past showed him how the equipment looked before they burnt it. They told him that they prefer the fine they were charged, to cancer.

TELECOMS TARGET CHILDREN

PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 26/10/04

TELECOMS TARGET CHILDREN

Campaigners have accused telecom companies of targeting children in contravention of the industry's code of practice and government advice warning under-sixteens not to use mobile phones. National campaign group Mast Sanity point to an alarming trend where schools and children's charities are being pressured to endorse initiatives that encourage children's mobile phone use.

"Telecom companies are resorting to devious methods to encourage youngsters to use mobile phones even though they have given a commitment not to target children," said Mast Sanity Press Officer, Karen Barratt. " For the telecoms it's all about profits - children are simply consumers to be exploited."

Mast Sanity point to the recent launch of Childnet Challenge, an initiative aimed at bringing together schoolchildren in Dublin and Belfast by the use of mobile phone technology. The pilot programme is a joint partnership between Childnet International, schools and telecom giant Vodafone and is being given generous support by mobile handset manufacturers. Although Childnet is surprisingly registered as a charity, the organisation's fact sheet "Children and Mobile Phones," admits to "promoting the use of this technology by children and young people." Childnet's board of trustees includes an executive for an "international telecommunications company."

At the end of September, David Butler, Chief Executive of the Parent Teacher Association caused outrage when he claimed that mobile phones improved pupils' thinking ability. His comments, condemned as "techno babble," were at made in a fringe meeting hosted by O2 at the LibDem conference. Campaigners say Mr.Butler's inclusion on the panel demonstrates that telecom operators are lobbying anyone who has influence on policy relating to children.

This view was reinforced recently, when John Carr of the children and technology unit at the charity NCH gave his support to a telecom industry scheme, which will enable parents to locate their children via mobile phones. Mast Sanity members regard this as a cynical attempt by the industry to play on parents' natural fears for the safety of their children and totally ignores the advice given by UK Chief Medical Officers in the Department of Health leaflet, "Mobile Phones and Health."

Campaigners believe those with a duty of care where children are concerned could be liable if parents take legal action in the future. They cite a recent study at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, which shows that serious health effects can take as long as ten years to develop and fear that many people in responsible positions are simply ignorant. "The industry is desperate to create a generation of mobile phone addicts to recoup the money they've spent on the technology," says Karen Barratt. " Their lobbyists are working overtime but their job is being made a lot easier by the gullibility of people who should know better."

MOA Meeting

I have received a formal request to attend a MOA meeting on the 9th Dec 2004 in London, they have set it out as a key stakeholders meeting for a maximum of 35 key stakeholders. I have naturally declined and I would hope that anyone else receiving an invite follows the same tact. My view is simple we cannot be seen to be giving credibility to MOA and their policy tactics of the 10 Commitments and the Traffic Light Scheme. This is the second meeting I have refused to attend on the same grounds, the arguments in my reply are: "....... unless you are prepared as an organisation to discuss a time table for the removal of inappropriately sited installations, when you are prepared to discuss the implementation of a statutory regulation scheme to replace the so called but totally arbitrary ten commitments and a commitment to a tax on all mobile phone calls of 1p per minute to fund independent research, then and only then will I be prepared to attend any meeting with either MOA or any individual operator....."

I ask that every activist says no to attending these meetings. DON'T GIVE THEM ANY CREDIBILITY. I would hope that MOA and the operators are inundated with the same broad statement of the core actions that each activist wants to see in place, they do not have to be the same as my demands, we just need need to demonstrate that as a movement we are too entrenched to take part in talks until they start meeting some of our basic demands.
