"Eminent domain is making news lately with the 'Kelo' Supreme Court decision. Most people think road construction is a legitimate use of eminent domain, but in most cases these days, new or bigger roads subsidize the cost of building new housing developments. That makes it more profitable for the developer and cheaper for the new homeowner at the expense of the original owner of the land which was taken for the road. The bottom line is that private land is taken for the profit of very few private parties (the developer and possibly the developer's clients)...
