Acceptable losses, Terri Schiavo, and our future
03/23/05
God bless Terri Schiavo, her family, her husband who, too, has suffered, and all those too sick or infirmed to declare their feelings and opinions. ... I am thinking about the term 'acceptable losses' and how the death of many becomes pure rationale for entire governments and movements, but at the same time, the death of one becomes abhorrent and sinful to a whole world. ... It dawns on me today that there is a great change in the world -– one that does in fact believe in acceptable losses of mankind. Radical environmentalism, radical religions, radical science, radical business, radical politics -- all that dream of global domination -– all believing in acceptable and massive loss of human life, because missions and money are more valued than life, while ordinary people are held in disdain by those whose superiority of self or mission has corrupted their hearts and souls."
