Outrage at Rising Death Toll

Activists Express Outrage at Rising Death Toll Participate in the Online People's Speakout!

Twenty-nine months after President Bush declared the end of major combat in Iraq, while standing dressed up as a soldier under a banner that read “Mission Accomplished” on the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, the number of Iraqis killed far surpasses 100,000. Iraqi villages and cities have been completely destroyed, families torn apart, children killed, parents tortured. The number of U.S. war dead has now reached 2,000. More than 1,860 U.S. servicemen and women have died since Bush’s odious photo-op session on the aircraft. Public opinion in the United States has decisively turned against the war in Iraq just as it turned against the war in Vietnam three decades ago. U.S. troops should be brought out of Iraq immediately. The people of Iraq should be paid reparations for the wholesale destruction of their country and the staggering loss of human life. Bush, Cheney and other officials in the Bush administration should be held accountable for their criminal conduct. None of the mothers, fathers and loved ones of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq will ever forget that Bush, in an example of extreme arrogance on July 2, 2003, told the Iraqi armed resistance “bring ‘em on.” Bush and Cheney are willing to fight this illegal war until the last drop of other people’s blood. As the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq hits the 2,000 figure, A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition and VoteNoWar members and supporters are coming out in local protests against the illegal and criminal war and occupation in Iraq. These local protests come on the heels of the September 24 demonstrations, when more than 300,000 people surrounded the White House, and tens of thousands more protested in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle.

The Online People's Speakout: Now that we are back in our respective towns and cities, and continuing our antiwar work, a pressing need of the movement is to stay connected. As we all move forward with local activities, it is essential that we stay in touch and share our experiences with our sisters and brothers fighting for justice and peace worldwide. It is important to remember that we are an enormous force, truly representing the majority sentiment opposed to this criminal war. To help fulfill this communications need, A.N.S.W.E.R. and VoteNoWar have announced a brand new feature - the Online People's Speakout. Activists can now post reports and pictures directly onto the VoteNoWar and A.N.S.W.E.R. sites for the world to see. The corporate media functions as a propaganda vehicle for the White House, the Pentagon, and the religious right. This system allow us to get the truth out. Every antiwar organization and individual connected to the movement can now participate directly. Using our stories and our pictures of the activities that are taking place in local areas throughout the United States and around the world, each one of us as an individual, or as a local antiwar group has the opportunity to communicate with millions of people. This is also a resource to connect with media outlets, and particularly alternative media sources, which have not been able to cover the antiwar movement with the breadth that they would like to. Now there's a system to hear directly from antiwar activists all over the country, as they report back on their activities.

For today and tomorrow's demonstration: Post pictures and brief descriptions of your local antiwar activities. Post pictures and brief descriptions of your experiences at September 24th. Click below to directly participate in the global People's Speak Out. Participate in the Speakout by clicking here (Easy to use - try it!)
