The Long March of Dick Cheney

Sidney Blumenthal writes that for Dick Chaney's entire career, he sought untrammeled power. The Bush presidency and 9/11 finally gave it to him - and he's not about to give it up.

Republican Budget Bill Savages the Poor

Max J. Castro writes, "They are at it again. Anyone who hoped that the images of the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, which made the extent of squalor in America visible and dramatized the life-and-death consequences of inequality, would stir the conscience of our ruling party was wrong. Dead wrong."

http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/112505M.shtml

The Fall of the One-Party Empire

Jonathan Schell writes that the most critical question has been whether American democracy, severely eroded but still breathing, would bring down the Republican machine, or whether the Republican machine - call it the budding one-party global empire - would bring down American democracy. This week, it looks as if democracy, after years of decline, has gained the upper hand.

Political Donation, Bribery Reaches Level of Criminal Misconduct

Court documents filed by prosecutors lay out an extensive conspiracy in which Mr. Scanlon and Mr. Abramoff, identified in the documents only as Lobbyist A, sought to defraud clients - mainly Indian tribes with gambling interests - and win legislative help from lawmakers in exchange for campaign donations, trips, dinners, greens fees and jobs.

The News Revolution Has Begun

The Indian writer Vandana Shiva has called for an "insurrection of subjugated knowledge." John Pilger writes that the insurrection is well under way. In trying to make sense of a dangerous world, millions of people are turning away from the traditional sources of news and information and toward the world wide web, convinced that mainstream journalism is the voice of rampant power.

Revolution

By John S. Hatch

There is within the mythology America finds so indispensable something so sick and downright evil, but so pervasive that even after all the revelations of torture and rape and murder sanctioned at the highest levels of government, even now the numbness persists, and writers still insist on thinking that America is somehow a shining example of decency.

Breast cancer and radiofrequency exposure

Breast Cancer, Tamoxifen and EMFs

How often have you been told that there are no biological effects of weak EMFs that can be replicated in more than one lab?

Like much of what you hear about EMFs, this is propaganda that seeks to cut off further research.

In past commentaries, we have described how WHO and industry officials refuse to acknowledge that EMFs can cause DNA breaks. Here is another example:

German researchers recently reported that a 12mG magnetic field could neutralize the ability of tamoxifen to inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer cells. This is the seventh group to find this particular type of low-level EMF effect.

Take a look at our latest commentary and you will learn what happens to those who dare challenge the orthodoxy. It is not a pretty picture.

The EMF-tamoxifen work has potential implications for women being treated for breast cancer. Please pass this message on to your friends and associates. The only way that EMF research will be allowed to resume in the U.S. and in Japan is if the public demands it.

Following on from Louis Slesin’s message on Breast Cancer, Tamoxifen and EMFs, below is the link to an old paper that I wrote on this subject that was published in Hansard, 27 October 1997. Looks like now is the time to dust it off for a major re-write….

Don Maisch

The Breast Cancer/EMF connection: Melatonin, Tamoxifen,
50-60 Hertz Electromagnetic Fields and Breast Cancer

An Australian Senate discussion Paper, 27 October 1997 (published in Hansard)

Don Maisch, EMFacts Consultancy.

According to recent statistics, breast cancer in Australia effects one in 14 women, kills one in 27 and is increasing at a rate of 3% annually. These figures reflect a growing community concern and as a consequence, in 1995 the Federal Government allocated $3 million over a 3 year period, solely for breast cancer studies.

It is unfortunate however, that apparently no current Australian breast cancer research is examining the growing evidence that low level exposures to 50-60 hertz electromagnetic fields (EMF) may block melatonin’s ability to suppress breast cancer cells and reduce the pineal gland’s nocturnal production of melatonin, thereby increasing susceptibility to breast cancer. This evidence consists of both human and laboratory studies, some of which are summarised in this paper. Almost all of these studies have been conducted only within the last few years and are still awaiting the peer review process which can take years to complete. As a result, many of these studies do not yet constitute part of the body of substantiated scientific evidence, often referred to by national and international expert regulatory groups, such as the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

Breast cancer and radiofrequency exposure

At the end of my October 1997 Senate paper (last message) I briefly mentioned evidence that suggests that malignant breast cancer tissue is far more sensitive to RF/MW than other types of cancerous tissue (reproduced below). This is one thing that Dr. John Holt from West Australia (do a Google search) has stressed as an important consideration for breast cancer patients. Now in Australia we have a situation in Brisbane where a whole array of antennas is mounted on the side of a 2 story building in a city public square. Directly opposite 70 meters away is a three story office building where, if you look out the third story windows, you look slightly down on the antennas. I sent one affected business on the third floor Alasdair Philip’s excellent Com and A Com meters and the tenents were able to determine the level of RF in their offices. They are now shielding the rooms and plan on moving out as soom as possible. Now the relevant point I’m trying to make is that when the person took the meters out on the public square in front of the building with the antennas, he found that he was getting RF readings from every metal object in that square, including his metal watch band. This would also be the case for any woman in that square (many work there) who might be wearing an underwire (metal) bra. That underwire would be acting as a slave antenna re-broadcasting RF directly into the breast. This would tend to act as a promoter of any cancerous cells in the breast. As cities are all becoming wireless wonders the situation in Brisbane must be repeated many times. At the very least, simple advice to breast cancer patients to not wear metal underwire bras would seem a sensible precaution.

Unfortunately Cancer Councils find it impossible to think this stuff through for themselves. Much easier to just blindly follow the written statements of the Repacholis of this world and not risk being attacked by the cell phone industry.

Omega see under: "WHO, EMF, Electromagnetic Radiation and Mobile Phones" http://omega.twoday.net/stories/1194586/

Don Maisch

“Although this paper only deals with powerline EMFs, electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from radiofrequency and microwave emissions are also now being implicated in breast cancer.

Besides some epidemiological studies, such as one showing a significant increase in breast cancer for female radio operators, there is evidence that breast cancer tumors absorb significantly more EMR than other cancers, or healthy tissue. To quote from one study, conducted at Duke University, North Carolina, USA, in 1993.

“In general, at all frequencies tested [50 to 900 MHz], both conductivity and relative permittivity were greater in malignant tissue than in normal tissue of the same type. For tissues of the same type, the differences in electrical properties from normal to malignant were least for kidney (about 6% and 4% average differences over the frequency range in permittivity and conductivity, respectively), and these differences were the greatest for mammary gland (about 233% and 577% average differences in permittivity and conductivity, respectively) “(27)

The ability of breast cancer tumors to absorb significantly more EMR than normal tissue should be of concern when compared to an official joint statement, made in the Information sheet, Safety of Mobile Phones and Towers - The Answers (Nov.1995) by the Australian Radiation Laboratory, Spectrum Management Agency, Austel and the Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organisation, (under the heading, Is Cancer an issue?)

“There is yet insufficient scientific knowledge of many aspects of health effects of radio waves. One common question is: Do radio waves from mobile phones increase the risks of cancer? The answer is that there is no experimental evidence that radio waves directly cause cancer. Laboratory studies on animals suggest that where cancer exists, radio waves may accelerate its growth.”

For this reason, acting under the Precautionaly Principal as mentioned prevously, one should also consider radiofrequency and microwave exposures as a possible risk factor to be avoided.”

Effects of ELF magnetic fields on protein expression profile of human breast cancer cell MCF7.

Li H, Zeng Q, Weng Y, Lu D, Jiang H, Xu Z.

Bioelectromagnetics Laboratory, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310031, China.

Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Fields (ELF MF) has been considered as a “possible human carcinogen” by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) while credible mechanisms of its carcinogenicity remain unknown. In this study, a proteomics approach was employed to investigate the changes of protein expression profile induced by ELF MF in human breast cancer cell line MCF7, in order to determine ELF MF-responsive proteins. MCF7 cells were exposed to 50 Hz, 0.4 mT ELF MF for 24 h and the changes of protein profile were examined using two dimensional electrophoresis. Up to 6 spots have been statistically significantly altered (their expression levels were changed at least 5 fold up or down) compared with sham-exposed group. 19 ones were only detected in exposure group while 19 ones were missing. Three proteins were identified by LC-IT Tandem MS as RNA binding protein regulatory subunit, Proteasome subunit beta type 7 precursor and Translationally Controlled Tumor Protein. Our finding showed that 50 Hz, 0.4 mT ELF MF alternates the protein profile of MCF7 cell and may affect many physiological functions of normal cell and 2-DE coupled with MS is a promising approach to elucidating cellular effects of electromagnetic fields.

So MCF7 and nitric oxide?

Nitric oxide nitrates tyrosine residues of tumor-suppressor p53 protein in MCF-7 cells.

Chazotte-Aubert L, Hainaut P, Ohshima H.

International Agency for Research on Cancer, 150 Cours Albert Thomas, Lyon Cedex 08, 69372, France.

It has been reported that mammalian cells incubated with excess nitric oxide (NO) accumulate p53 protein but concomitantly this p53 loses its capacity for binding to its DNA consensus sequence. As nitration of tyrosine residues in various proteins has been shown to inhibit their functions, we examined whether NO nitrates tyrosine residues in p53 protein. MCF-7 cells expressing wild-type p53 were incubated with S-nitrosoglutathione for 4 h and cellular extracts were immunoprecipitated with an anti-p53 antibody. Western blot analyses of immunoprecipitates for p53 or for nitrotyrosine revealed low levels of nitrotyrosine in p53 from untreated cells. Incubation with 2 mM S-nitrosoglutathione induced a significant increase in the nitrotyrosine level in p53 protein compared to nontreated cells. These results suggest that excess NO produced in inflamed tissues could nitrate p53 protein, playing a role in carcinogenesis by impairing functions of this tumor-suppressor protein.

BREAST CANCER IN WOMEN, HIGH-VOLTAGE POWER LINES AND MELATONIN

by Roger Santini

[National Institute of Applied Sciences - Laboratory of Biochemistry Pharmacology, 20, Av. A. Einstein-69621 VILLEURBANNE (France).]
http://www.bioelectromagnetics.org/newsletter/news144.html#santini

In a recent study, Feychting et al. (1) observe that among estrogen receptor-positive women (younger than 50 years) the relative risk for breast cancer is significantly increased if those women are living near high voltage power line (exposure cutoff point for ELF magnetic fields >0.1 yT) [I think it is supposed to be microTesla (uT)-Don]. In their article, Feychting et al. (1) discuss the role of melatonin as an oncostatic agent and propose that electromagnetic fields from high-voltage power lines decrease melatonin which may be a mechanism correlated with cancer development (2).

A publication of Danforth et al. (3) has shown that women with estrogen-receptor positive breast cancer have a nocturnal increase in plasma melatonin significantly lower than control subjects.

From those results, we can propose that women with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer have a nocturnal increase in plasma melatonin significantly lower than control subjects.

These results could indicate that in women with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, the specific decrease of melatonin in those subjects (3) is a supplementary factor which can have a synergistic action with the melatonin decrease due to the electromagnetic fields. This synergistic decreasing action on melatonin may contribute to potential breast cancer development in estrogen receptor-positive women living near high-voltage power lines.

Opposition predicted to phone mast plan

Plans to fit mobile phone equipment on the BT building in Bury St Edmunds are once again up for discussion.

Two previous applications were thrown out by local planners and appeal inspectors in 2002 and 2004 – including one plan for an aerial disguised as a flag-pole – after residents voiced strong opposition.

Now, Vodafone hopes to install two camouflaged wall aerials and another on the roof disguised as a small chimney, on the redundant Whiting Street building.

St Edmundsbury borough councillor Paul Farmer, who campaigned against the last application, said he predicted further local opposition.

"Quite apart from the usual safety and visual concerns, any installation which extends the life of this building is a setback for those who wish to see it replaced with more appropriate residential development," said Cllr Farmer.

"Vodafone may not be the only company interested. Once one aerial is allowed, how many more will follow?

"I shall be passing on these concerns to the agent and will certainly support the views of residents when this becomes a planning application."

Mike Ames, borough councillor for Abbeygate Ward, was also against the previous applications.

"Although they have altered the design from the previous application, the basic principle of objection still stands," said Cllr Ames.

"I don't think this is a suitable building or site. It is in the St Edmundsbury Borough Council plans as a suitable site for domestic purposes – in other words it is a brownfield site designated for residential use. If you allow anything to be put on there it jeopardises the policy St Edmundsbury Borough Council planners have got."

Vodafone agent National Grid Wireless is consulting local people before submitting a formal planning request.

Outrage over Kenilworth phone mast

Residents have criticised Warwick District Council for posting a planning notice for a 15m phone mast out of site from the public. Posters about the application by Vodafone have been placed on the gates of an electricity station in Scott Road, Kenilworth, where the mast could be built. This site can be accessed by a service road but residents believe it is too far away from the main street for them to spot easily. People living close to the site are now protesting about the application and say they have been given less time to make an objection to the plans which could go to a committee early next month. Clinton Primary School in Caesar Road has also objected. The mast and equipment cabin would back onto gardens in Oaks Road and could be seen by residents in The Mews.

Mel Elkington, of Rounds Hill, has children who attend Clinton Primary School. She said: "I am appalled at the notice which has been given. It should be where everybody can see it. I am extremely angry and worried about the plans. We do not yet know about the health issues."

Joe Rukin, of Caesar Road, added: "Where we live, we would expect to have adverse health effects, according to some reports - but we have had no notification on this. It is also close to two schools."

Debbie Flowers, of The Mews, will be able to see the mast from her house. She said: "I don't think this kind of mast should be put up in a built-up area. There are loads of sites where it can go and I don't want to see it from my bedroom window. "We have to look out for our children. There are enough horrible things in the world - we don't want another." Mrs Flowers said she only found out about the plans while she was talking to a neighbour.

Clinton Primary deputy head Sam Pater said: "We support the parents' concerns and would ask that the mast is re-sited away from a residential area." But Warwick District Council head of development control John Edwards said: "It was not easy to find a place for the site notice where it would stand out. But it has not prevented people from responding. Over all, we do feel that there was a reasonable level of publicity."

Vodafone spokesman Jane Frapwell said there are no regulations about where a mast can go. She added: "If there is a choice in a residential area where we can minimise the visual effect, we take it. But we cannot stop it completely because then there would not be mobile phone service in the area. Nine per cent of households rely on a mobile phone at home, so we have to provide this service."

Better Environment, Healthier People

http://www.hpa.org.uk/hpa/news/articles/press_releases/2005/051122_EAreport.htm

Press Statement

22 November 2005

Environment Agency report on Environment and Health

The Health Protection Agency welcomes the publication of the Environment Agency’s (EA) report Better Environment, Healthier People (1). It recognises the impact of the environment on health and well-being and in particular the effects of flooding and climate change, poor air quality, chemicals, inequalities and outdoor recreation.

There are approximately 30,000 chemicals in common use and less than 1% of these have been subject to assessment of toxicity and health risk (2). In addition, the long-term consequences of low level, chronic exposure to most chemicals and poisons are poorly understood although about 8-9% of the total disease burden has been estimated to be attributed to pollution (3). Consequently, the Health Protection Agency has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with EA, and the Chemical Hazards and Poisons Division of HPA is working jointly with the EA on a range of environmental health issues including the development of an Environmental Public Health Tracking System (4).

The Health Protection Agency provides authoritative scientific and medical advice to the NHS, the EA and other bodies about the known health effects of chemicals, poisons and other environmental hazards

(5). This advice covers issues such as:

* personal protective equipment
* decontamination and evacuation
* toxicological and epidemiological advice on impact on public health
* clinical advice on antidotes and medical treatment
* the public health impact of industrial sites
* health effects from chemicals in the environment
(including water, soil, waste)

Guidance is available round-the-clock from medical toxicologists, clinical pharmacologists, environmental scientists, epidemiologists and other specialists. The Chemical Hazards and Poisons Division also operates the National Poisons Information Service (NPIS) which provides advice to doctors and nurses on the best way to manage patients who have been poisoned (6).

THE CORPORATION: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power - Enterprises controlling and destroying the world

A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE POWER OF ENTERPRISES

View trailer: http://www.thecorporation.com/index.php?page_id=46

SYNOPSIS

THE CORPORATION explores the nature and spectacular rise of the dominant institution of our time. Footage from pop culture, advertising, TV news, and corporate propaganda, illuminates the corporation's grip on our lives. Taking its legal status as a "person" to its logical conclusion, the film puts the corporation on the psychiatrist's couch to ask "What kind of person is it?" Provoking, witty, sweepingly informative, The Corporation includes forty interviews with corporate insiders and critics - including Milton Friedman, Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, and Michael Moore - plus true confessions, case studies and strategies for change.

Winner of 24 INTERNATIONAL AWARDS, 10 of them AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARDS including the AUDIENCE AWARD for DOCUMENTARY in WORLD CINEMA at the 2004 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL. The long-awaited DVD, available now in Australia and coming in March to North America, contains over 8 hour of additional footage.

The film is based on the book The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power by Joel Bakan.

THE CORPORATION - DETAILED SYNOPSIS In THE CORPORATION, case studies, anecdotes and true confessions reveal behind-the-scenes tensions and influences in several corporate and anti-corporate dramas. Each illuminates an aspect of the corporation's complex character.

Among the 40 interview subjects are CEOs and top-level executives from a range of industries: oil, pharmaceutical, computer, tire, manufacturing, public relations, branding, advertising and undercover marketing; in addition, a Nobel-prize winning economist, the first management guru, a corporate spy, and a range of academics, critics, historians and thinkers are interviewed.

A LEGAL "PERSON" In the mid-1800s the corporation emerged as a legal "person." Imbued with a "personality" of pure self-interest, the next 100 years saw the corporation's rise to dominance. The corporation created unprecedented wealth. But at what cost? The remorseless rationale of "externalities"-as Milton Friedman explains: the unintended consequences of a transaction between two parties on a third-is responsible for countless cases of illness, death, poverty, pollution, exploitation and lies.

THE PATHOLOGY OF COMMERCE: CASE HISTORIES To more precisely assess the "personality" of the corporate "person," a checklist is employed, using actual diagnostic criteria of the World Health Organization and the DSM-IV, the standard diagnostic tool of psychiatrists and psychologists. The operational principles of the corporation give it a highly anti-social "personality": It is self-interested, inherently amoral, callous and deceitful; it breaches social and legal standards to get its way; it does not suffer from guilt, yet it can mimic the human qualities of empathy, caring and altruism. Four case studies, drawn from a universe of corporate activity, clearly demonstrate harm to workers, human health, animals and the biosphere. Concluding this point-by-point analysis, a disturbing diagnosis is delivered: the institutional embodiment of laissez-faire capitalism fully meets the diagnostic criteria of a "psychopath."

MINDSET But what is the ethical mindset of corporate players? Should the institution or the individuals within it be held responsible?

The people who work for corporations may be good people, upstanding citizens in their communities - but none of that matters when they enter the corporation's world. As Sam Gibara, Former CEO and Chairman of Goodyear Tire, explains, "If you really had a free hand, if you really did what you wanted to do that suited your personal thoughts and your personal priorities, you'd act differently."

Ray Anderson, CEO of Interface, the world's largest commercial carpet manufacturer, had an environmental epiphany and re-organized his $1.4 billion company on sustainable principles. His company may be a beacon of corporate hope, but is it an exception to the rule?

MONSTROUS OBLIGATIONS

A case in point: Sir Mark Moody-Stuart recounts an exchange between himself (at the time Chairman of Royal Dutch Shell), his wife, and a motley crew of Earth First activists who arrived on the doorstep of their country home. The protesters chanted and stretched a banner over their roof that read, "MURDERERS." The response of the surprised couple was not to call the police, but to engage their uninvited guests in a civil dialogue, share concerns about human rights and the environment and eventually serve them tea on their front lawn. Yet, as the Moody-Stuarts apologize for not being able to provide soy milk for their vegan critics' tea, Shell Nigeria is flaring unrivaled amounts of gas, making it one of the world's single worst sources of pollution. And all the professed concerns about the environment do not spare Ken Saro Wiwa and eight other activists from being hanged for opposing Shell's environmental practices in the Niger Delta.

The Corporation exists to create wealth, and even world disasters can be profit centers. Carlton Brown, a commodities trader, recounts with unabashed honesty the mindset of gold traders while the twin towers crushed their occupants. The first thing that came to their minds, he tells us, was: "How much is gold up?"

PLANET INC.

You'd think that things like disasters, or the purity of childhood, or even milk, let alone water or air, would be sacred. But no. Corporations have no built-in limits on what, who, or how much they can exploit for profit. In the fifteenth century, the enclosure movement began to put fences around public grazing lands so that they might be privately owned and exploited. Today, every molecule on the planet is up for grabs. In a bid to own it all, corporations are patenting animals, plants, even your DNA.

Around things too precious, vulnerable, sacred or important to the public interest, governments have, in the past, drawn protective boundaries against corporate exploitation. Today, governments are inviting corporations into domains from which they were previously barred.

PERCEPTION MANAGEMENT

The Initiative Corporation spends $22 billion worldwide placing its clients' advertising in every imaginable - and some unimaginable - media. One new medium: very young children. Their "Nag Factor" study dropped jaws in the world of child psychiatry. It was designed not to help parents cope with their children's nagging, but to help corporations formulate their ads and promotions so that children would nag for their products more effectively. Initiative Vice President Lucy Hughes elaborates: "You can manipulate consumers into wanting, and therefore buying your products. It's a game."

Today people can become brands (Martha Stewart). And brands can build cities (Celebration, Florida). And university students can pay for their educations by shilling on national television for a credit card company (Chris and Luke). And a corporation even owns the rights to the popular song "Happy Birthday" (a division of AOL-Time-Warner). Do you ever get the feeling it's all a bit much?

Corporations have invested billions to shape public and political opinion. When they own everything, who will stand for the public good?

THE PRICE OF WHISTLEBLOWING

It turns out that standing for the public good is an expensive proposition. Ask Jane Akre and Steve Wilson, two investigative reporters fired by Fox News after they refused to water down a story on rBGH, a controversial synthetic hormone widely used in the United States (but banned in Europe and Canada) to rev up cows' metabolism and boost their milk production. Because of the increased production, the cows suffer from mastitis, a painful infection of the udders. Antibiotics must then be injected, which find their way into the milk, and ultimately reduce people's resistance to disease.

Fox demanded that they rewrite the story, and ultimately fired Akre and Wilson. Akre and Wilson subsequently sued Fox under Florida's whistle-blower statute. They proved to a jury that the version of the story Fox would have had them put on the air was false, distorted or slanted. Akre was awarded $425,000. Then Fox appealed, the verdict was overturned on a technicality, and Akre lost her award. [For an update on the case see Disc 2 where we learn that at one point, Jane and Steve became liable for Fox's $1.8 million court costs, later to be reduced to $200,000.]

DEMOCRACY LTD.

Democracy is a value that the corporation just doesn't understand. In fact, corporations have often tried to undo democracy if it is an obstacle to their single-minded drive for profit. From a 1934 business-backed plot to install a military dictator in the White House (undone by the integrity of one U.S. Marine Corps General, Smedley Darlington Butler) to present-day law-drafting, corporations have bought military might, political muscle and public opinion.

And corporations do not hesitate to take advantage of democracy's absence either. One of the most shocking stories of the twentieth century is Edwin Black's recounting IBM's strategic alliance with Nazi Germany-one that began in 1933 in the first weeks that Hitler came to power and continued well into World War II.

FISSURES

The corporation may be trying to render governments impotent, but since the landmark WTO protest in Seattle, a rising wave of networked individuals and groups have decided to make their voices heard. Movements to challenge the very foundations of the corporation are afoot: The corporate charter revocation movement tried to bring down oil giant Unocal; a groundbreaking ballot initiative in Arcata, California, put the corporate agenda in the public spotlight in a series of town hall meetings; in Bolivia, the population fought and won a battle against a huge transnational corporation brought in by their government to privatize the water system; in India nearly 99% of the basmati patent of RiceTek was overturned; and W. R. Grace and the U.S. government's patent on Neem was revoked.

As global individuals take back local power, a growing re-invigoration of the concept of citizenship is taking root. It has the power to not only strip the corporation of its seeming omnipotence, but to create a feeling and an ideology of democracy that is much more than its mere institutional version.

Current resident of New Orleans, John Biguenet, describes the angry mood pervading the region as the government refuses to create a protection system for a future hurricane. This is key, says Biguenet, for investment and growth in the city to begin. Only 15 percent of residents have returned to New Orleans, unable to because 40 percent of houses have no electricity and a quarter of the city is without drinkable water.

Peak Oil, Pandemic, and 78 Dead Scientists

A commemorative essay dedicated to the victims of 9/11 and countless millions of others sacrificed on the altar of the New World Order

Michael Nield
11th September 2005
michael@policestateplanning.com

In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, in order to contribute something to solve overpopulation. - H.R.H. Prince Philip, reported by Deutsche Press Agentur (DPA), August, 1988.

Seven Revolutions: The End Game

The Council on Foreign Relations journal, Foreign Affairs July/August issue, contained three articles on the influenza pandemic. Since the CFR is a who's who of the American elite, it is almost certain that the pandemic will strike this flu season. There are few major trends or events in the world which are not planned, so it is worth contemplating the 78 top level microbiologists and medical researchers who have been murdered or met untimely deaths since 1994.

The list can be viewed at rense.com or at SteveQuayle.com. The grissly statistics are also tabulated here.

From October 4, 2001 till January 7, 2005 the average is about 1.2 deaths per month or approximately 1 every 25 days. These people were the crème de la crème in their scientific fields. The chances of these deaths being unrelated is 14 billion to 1.

Are the global elite covering their tracks before releasing mass plagues upon the Earth? They are, after all, committed to "solving" the problem of world wide population growth. These scientists maybe the few people who might recognize the man-made origins of the disease or know how to treat it.

According to a top level think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) run by luminaries such as Henry Kissinger and Zbigniew Brzezinski, population growth and resource consumption are priorities 1 and 2 of the "Seven Revolutions" they have identified for year 2025.

"The SEVEN REVOLUTIONS initiative dares to do what fewer and fewer organizations are able to do – to consider the long-term implications of global trends at work today. The Initiative maps seven key trends that will effect change out to the year 2025 and provides leaders with a comprehensive outline of the major challenges that lie ahead. The seven "revolutionary" areas of change are (1) population; (2) resource management; (3) technology; (4) information and knowledge flows; (5) economic integration; (6) conflict; and (7) governance. Each of these revolutions embodies both promise and peril and it is up to every one of us to determine the trajectory that these revolutionary forces will follow"

The Global Strategy Institute at CSIS

Henry Kissinger wrote the notorious National Security Study Memorandum #200 for President Ford in 1974, identifying Third World depopulation as a priority for U.S. national security policy.

Kissinger was implementing an agenda sponsored by the Rockefellers, the most powerful family in U.S. history. The Rockefellers not only established an oil monopoly, they pioneered the drug-based medicine which constitutes the global medical dictatorship today. John D. Rockefeller III founded the Population Council in 1952. In 1969 he was appointed Chairman of the U.S. Commission on Population Growth and the American Future. In a letter submitted with the final report in 1972, he told President Nixon that,

After two years of concentrated effort, we have concluded that, in the long run, no substantial benefits will result from further growth of the Nation’s population, rather that the gradual stabilization of our population through voluntary means would contribute significantly to the Nation’s ability to solve its problems. We have looked for, and have not found, any convincing economic argument for continued population growth. The health of our country does not depend on it, nor does the vitality of business nor the welfare of the average person.

John D. Rockefeller III was also Chairman of The National Policy Panel of the U.S. United Nations Association. It produced a 57-page report, dated May 1969, entitled World Population, A Challenge to the United Nations and Its System of Agencies. This emphasized the need for the United Nations and other international bodies to lead the response to world population growth.

The American population control think tank, Negative Population Growth Inc., recommended in 1992 that the population of the U.S. should be 125-150 million, requiring a 50% cut from its current level. In 1995, the same think-tank published a study recommending an 80% reduction in global population.

Other super-rich individuals such as CNN founder, Ted Turner, have made cataclysmic predictions about the consequences of population growth. The Turner Foundation used to have on it's homepage (which can still be retrieved in the Alexa.com website cache) the dramatic statement by Turner:

I see the whole field of environmentalism and population as nothing less than an effort to ensure the survival of the human species.

In 1997, Ted Turner donated a billion dollars to the U.N. for environmental and population programmes.

Population Objective

"Worldwide development of policies and practices which will reduce population growth by addressing the relationships between population growth, global resources, the status of women and girls, and access to family planning and reproductive health services."

Is it coincidental that at the same time as deadly viruses are apparently set to sweep the Earth, there is a global energy crisis looming? Top investment bankers have said that by 2008, oil prices will start to rise dramatically, probably exceeding $200 dollars a barrel by 2010. A 1930s style global depression will ensue, with a possible breakdown in civil society. Whether or not this "Peak Oil" crisis is by accident or design (I suspect the latter), there exists the motivation to reduce global consumption by any means possible. The bottom line is the global elite do not want billions of people using up all the oil and other natural resources. They maintain their power and monopoly whatever the rate of consumption. And of course they believe they are doing the planet and its surviving inhabitants, which includes themselves and their children, a great favour.

This was all laid out in a report to the Club of Rome in 1972, entitled The Limits to Growth. Interestingly, it was the same year that John D. Rockefeller III's commission on population came to the same conclusion. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology team foresaw global environmental catastrophe by the middle of the 21st century unless serious limits to population and capital growth were imposed. The Club of Rome numbers amongst its members some of the richest and most powerful men in the world, including Gorbachev and Maurice Strong.

Mr Strong was secretary general of all three Earth Summits 1972, 1992, and 1997. He initiated The Earth Charter Project in 1994, the 'Ten Commandments' of sustainable development. Gorbachev was co-chair of The Earth Charter Commission and Stephen Rockefeller was Chair of the drafting committee. The ceremony to launch the Earth Charter initiative in May 2000, involved the presentation of the document to regular Bilderberg attendee and major shareholder in Royal Dutch/Shell, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands.

With RFID tracking of every supermarket product on the horizon, compulsory biometric ID cards, metering of water consumption, satellite tracking and taxation of motor vehicles, and toll roads, it seems that they are setting up the infrastructure for global resource management. This is of course the reason why they are trying to get the public to believe the phoney global warming hypothesis.

Targeting the Weapon

11th May 1987. Unnamed insiders from the World Health Organization tell The Times that their smallpox vaccination programme in Africa triggered the AIDS pandemic. Download the article here

The mass cull may not be achieved using an aerosol influenza alone or at all. The elite may use the threat of the flu pandemic to get people to take a "special" vaccine, which itself does the damage. With all the bird flu hype in the media, I strongly suspect this is the chosen path. To date, the vaccine has been the weapon of choice in the war against population. Launched in 1999, The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization is a partnership of the who's who in population control: The Rockefeller Foundation, the $24 billion Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the United Nations Foundation (a $1 billion endowment by Ted Turner), The World Bank, The World Health Organization and Western governments. These are some of the same organizations that Rockefeller and Kissinger called upon to lead the war on population growth. Cancer viruses, HIV, sterilizing hormones, aluminium, squalene, and mercury are just some of the nasties found in vaccines. Gulf War Illness, which has killed and disabled hundreds of thousands of American troops, is a vaccine induced disease in many cases. AIDS was introduced to Africa in the smallpox vaccine and to American homosexuals in the hepatitis B vaccine.

In Murder By Injection—The Story Of The Medical Conspiracy Against America, 1988, Eustace Mullins observed that,

Medical historians have finally come to the reluctant conclusion that the great flu "epidemic" of 1918 was solely attributable to the widespread use of vaccines. It was the first war in which vaccination was compulsory for all servicemen. The Boston Herald reported that forty-seven soldiers had been killed by vaccination in one month. As a result, the military hospitals were filled, not with wounded combat casual ties, but with casualties of the vaccine. The epidemic was called "the Spanish Influenza," a deliberately mis leading appellation, which was intended to conceal its origin. This flu epidemic claimed twenty million victims; those who survived it were the ones who had refused the vaccine.

Ten years earlier, Eleanora I. McBean, Ph.D., N.D. had written a similar account in her book, Swine Flu Expose:

I heard that seven men dropped dead in a doctor’s office after being vaccinated. This was in an army camp, so I wrote to the Government for verification. They sent me the report of U.S. Secretary of War, Henry L. Stimson. The report not only verified the report of the seven who dropped dead from the vaccines, but it stated that there had been 63 deaths and 28,585 cases of hepatitis as a direct result of the yellow fever vaccine during only 6 months of the war. That was only one of the
14 to 25 shots given the soldiers. ....

.... When doctors had tried to suppress the symptoms of the typhoid with a stronger vaccine, it caused a worse form of typhoid which they named paratyphoid. But when they concocted a stronger and more dangerous vaccine to suppress that one, they created an even worse disease which they didn’t have a name for. What should they call it? They didn’t want to tell the people what it really was — their own Frankenstein monster which they had created with their vaccines and suppressive medicines. They wanted to direct the blame away from themselves, so they called it Spanish Influenza. It was certainly not of Spanish origin, and the Spanish people resented the implication that the world-wide scourge of that day should be blamed on them. But the name stuck and American medical doctors and vaccine makers were not suspected of the crime of this widespread devastation — the 1918 Flu Epidemic. It is only in recent years that researchers have been digging up the facts and laying the blame where it belongs.

Before rolling up your sleeve to take the new bird flu vaccine, reflect upon the American swine flu fiasco in 1976. The epidemic that never was, began and ended with the death of one soldier at the Fort Dix Army base. Fearing a 1918 scale pandemic from this unusual influenza, the Government quickly wheeled out a vaccine to protect the public. The July/August 2005 issue of Foreign Affairs described what happened next:

When the campaign to vaccinate the U.S. population started four months later, there were almost immediate claims of side effects, including the neurologically debilitating Guillain Barré Syndrome. Most of the lawsuits -- with claims totaling $3.2 billion -- were settled or dismissed, but the U.S. government still ended up paying claimants around $90 million.

Vaccines have dubious efficacy because the immune system is not designed to respond to injected microbes. The first line of defence is the mucosal membranes in the mouth and gut. If a microbe enters the body through injection, it triggers an antibody response but crucially, it bypasses the cellular immune system altogether and actually suppresses its function. The same microbe will become far more virulent if it is injected, hence the numerous accounts of epidemics amongst vaccinated populations in the medical literature.

How will they get away with such a massive crime? Easy, they've been getting away with mass murder for decades under the guise of public health. Headed by the Rockefeller family, the medical establishment regularly declares night is day and black is white when it comes to the causes and treatments for every disease. When they're not poisoning cancer patients with radiation or mustard gas, they're putting fluoride in the water supply. Look at what they've done to the Gulf War troops, hundreds of thousands sick and dying from "hypochondria", so they say. This is the art of killing quietly, a silent slaughter-fest.

Regarding vaccinations, one of the first published papers on the mercury preservative thimerosal was by a Rockefeller Institute scientist, named Kenneth C. Smithburn, hired by Eli Lilly & Co to test its effectiveness in treating meningitis patients. Lilly then cited this study repeatedly for decades as proof that thimerosal was harmless to humans. They never revealed to the scientific community or the public the highly questionable nature of the original research, since all of the 22 meningitis patients subject to the experiment soon died.

Under the Civil Contingencies Act, the British Government can do anything it likes to the public using emergency powers. This includes quarantine and forced vaccination. American authorities have the same powers under the The Model State Emergency Health Powers Act and Homeland Security Act. Section 304 of The Homeland Security Act exempts from liability anyone involved in manufacturing or administering the smallpox vaccine and other bioterrorist countermeasures. And just for your safety America, the Government has prepared concentration camps in secret locations across the nation.

Survival Tips

How the elite are going to protect themselves from the bug? If it's in the "special" vaccine, they obviously won't be taking it. If it's an aerosol influenza, then there are myriad ways to strengthen the immune system sufficiently to resist any infectious disease. Interestingly, however, the Sunday Times recently reported that Britain's elite have been selected as priority cases to receive anti-viral drugs if the country is hit by a deadly bird flu outbreak. Workers at the BBC and prominent politicians - such as cabinet ministers - would be offered protection from the virus. Although the National Health Service has ordered 14.6m doses of Tamiflu, an antiviral drug thought to be effective against the H5N1 strain, only 900,000 doses are in stock so far. The full supply will not be delivered until March 2007. If there is a bird flu pandemic in the coming months there would be enough drugs to protect less than 2% of the British population for a week. This assumes that these drugs actually work.

Whilst this does not constitute "medical advice", here are some survival tips which should see you safely through the pandemic.

As a rule of thumb, if the Government recommends it, be it a vaccine or a pill labeled cyanide, don't take it. Vaccines are ineffective in preventing infectious disease and there are much safer and better alternatives. Even if it is not a "special" vaccine, it will more likely than not contain a substantial quantity of thimerosal. Thimerosal is carcinogenic, has brain damaged millions of children, causes depression and suicide, and is responsible for degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer's.

Stop consuming caffeine and sugar. Both of these substances markedly suppress immune function.

Oil of Oregano kills viruses, bacteria and fungi. In my own experience the Oregacyn capsules nuke an infection in a matter of days or hours, depending upon the dosage. On The Power Hour radio show of 7th July 2005, Dr. Cass Ingram of North American Herb & Spice Co. disclosed that the Dept. of Defense made enquiries with Georgetown University about the germicidal properties of his oil of oregano products that it had tested. Subsequently, Dick Cheney called him up to place an order for 50,000 gallons. Thankfully, Dr. Ingram turned him down, otherwise there wouldn't be any left for the public. See http://www.oreganol.com for more information on the products.

Selenium Viruses mutate in selenium-deficient animals and become virulent. Selenium prevents the mutations that increase tissue damage during infection. [J American College Nutrition 20: 384–88S, 2001; FASEB Journal 15: 1846-48, 2001; Journal Nutrition 133: 1463–67S, 2003]. Brazil nuts are a very good source of selenium.

Zinc is believed to promote a strong immune system by, among other things, revitalizing the thymus gland and its production of white blood cells. In addition, autoimmune diseases (chronic ailments linked to the improper functioning of the immune system, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or fibromyalgia) may also benefit from zinc supplementation. Interestingly, the presence of too little zinc has been linked to a decreased immune response in older people.

Vitamin C not only maintains a healthy immune system, it can halt an infection in its tracks if administered in mega doses. See health journalist Bill Sardi's archive on vitamin C and the history of scientific coverup over its uses.

Vitamin A Research has shown that vitamin A boosts the immune system by stimulating white blood cell function and increasing the activity of antibodies. Vitamin A deficiency may be associated with increased risk of infection and infections tend to deplete the body's stores of vitamin A.

Vitamin E A study funded by the Agricultural Research Facility Service found that high doses of vitamin E, when administered daily, can help fight off colds contracted by the elderly.

Mike Adam's free e-book Beat The Bird Flu Virus details the anti-viral properties of a wide range of herbs, minerals and vitamins.

For a fuller discussion of the aims and methods of population control, read chapter 14 of The Police State Road Map.

And remember, the chances that the global elite are not up to something sinister that involves a biological weapon, is 14 billion to 1.

Good Luck

Will the Flu put Troops on the Streets?

During a White House press conference on 4th October, President Bush confirmed that he would attempt to impose military curfews and quarantines in the event of a flu pandemic in the U.S. See Bush Cites Military Takeover In Case Of Flu Outbreak, by Paul Joseph Watson.

In the wake of hurricane Katrina, martial law and gun confiscations were imposed. Bush's pronouncement on the coming pandemic indicates that it will be used as a pretext for a series of martial law crackdowns as and when required.

Putting the U.S. under martial law might be the primary objective of the man-made pandemic. It could be used for this purpose in any country. However, any engineered event can be used to advance multiple agendas simultaneously. If global population reduction is not the primary objective, this made to order pandemic may still kill large numbers.

Dr. David Kelly apparently committed suicide at the height of the WMD controversy in July 2003. U.K. national security barrister Michael Shrimpton Q.C. says that he was certainly murdered.

Dr. Kelly was head of microbiology at Porton Down, the Ministry of Defence's chem/bio warfare lab.

Dozens of other top microbiologists and medical researchers have met their demise being thrown off bridges, stabbed with swords, hit over the head with champagne bottles, strung up and hanged, killed in plane crashes, blown up, shot, found dead inside airlocks, killed in car crashes, poisoned with arsenic, run over whilst out jogging, bashed in with baseball bats, found dead in the street, drowned in water sumps, or chopped into pieces and found in three separate suitcases.

Zbigniew Brzezinski and Henry Kissinger are trustees of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Their Seven Revolutions project identifies seven areas of global challenge. The first is population growth and the second is global resource management.

Greenpeace-EinkaufsNetz findet erneut illegale Spritzmittel in Supermarktware

Verbotene Pestizide: Greenpeace-EinkaufsNetz findet erneut illegale Spritzmittel in Supermarktware (24.11.05)

US-Armee bastelt an globaler Überwachung

http://mindcontrol.twoday.net/stories/1188988/

"The closely-guarded memo lays out a list of scenarios to bring the Republican party back from the political brink, including a devastating attack by terrorists that could “validate” the President’s war on terror and allow Bush to “unite the country” in a “time of national shock and sorrow.”

As Republican political strategists scramble to find a message - any message - that will ring true with voters, GOP leaders in Congress admit privately that control of their party by right-wing extremists makes their recovery all but impossible.

”We’ve made our bed with these people,” admits an aide to House Speaker Denny Hastert. “Now it’s the morning after and the hangover hurts like hell.”

But what'll it be this time? Dirty bomb in New York? An RPG fired at the Indian Point nuclear power plant? Suicide car bombings in Los Angeles? Or worse?

Rest assured that your Republican leaders are hard at work brainstorming ideas which include hoping for a terrorist attack in order to increase their poll numbers. This is how your Republican leadership thinks. This is their idea of "moral values". Be as corrupt as you want: lie, steal, cheat, kill, torture, pollute, protect your cronies, and collect the checks -- there's always more terrorism.

Betreff: Marktplatz Thema Elektrosmog

Sehr geehrter Herr Ehring,

Hallo Hr. Ehring,

(1W in 20 cm Entfernung macht schon 2 W/m2, typ.

Ehring, Georg schrieb:

Sehr geehrter Herr Freund,

Get Some

William Rivers Pitt writes, "The time has come for the soldiers, those who have completed their service and those who stand the watch today, to get some. Not in a firefight, not in a desert or a jungle or on a frozen plain, not on any battlefield soaked with blood and redolent with screams, but on a field of honor where the good name and sacrifice and suffering of our soldiers has become all too easily slapped aside in a quest to salvage polling numbers and approval ratings."

Ending the Iraq War

Richard Falk writes that the American debate on the Iraq war has entered a dramatic new phase. For the first time, a prominent Democrat, Congressman John Murtha, has called for a withdrawal of American forces from the country. Murtha's words have had a major impact because he was a former supporter of the war, and has had a career distinguished by his consistently pro-military profile. His argument is based on the inability to complete the American military mission in Iraq, making inexcusable the continued killing and loss of life.

Families urged to fight mast plans

PETER WALSH

24 November 2005 12:28

Families are being encouraged to show their support for a campaign to stop a mobile phone mast being put up in a city street just yards from homes.

Telecommunications giant Vodafone has submitted plans with Norwich City Council for a 10 metre timber pole in the prestigious Newmarket Road area.

But Chris Hull, a Green party county councillor for Town Close ward, has written to people living near to the Newmarket Road Surgery, close to where the mast is set to be installed, to get their support in opposing the mast.

"This particular mast has a total height of 12 metres with antenna," he said. "The ground equipment is sited on a public highway and it is in a predominantly residential conservation area.

"I therefore believe it is not a suitable location for such an installation and any residents who are concerned about the application could make similar points to these to the council.

"Unlike concerns about health impacts on masts, current legislation does allow councils to take into account the visual impact of masts and any infringement onto public highway."

Earlier this month the Evening News reported how people living in the area were concerned about the proposal.

"I don't consider that a residential area such as this is a suitable area for a phone mast," said James Lord, 75, who lives off Newmarket Road in nearby Glenalmond.

"I wouldn't welcome anything that requires a large magnetic field which is what microwaves are."

The Evening News has campaigned against the installation of mobile phone masts near homes and schools until it is proved they are safe.

Dr Ian Gibson Norwich North MP and long time supporter of our campaign appealed to Vodafone to take the wishes of people who live near the mast into account before making these proposals and urged them to get in touch with him.

In April 1997 the Evening News reported how people living in the Newmarket Road area were furious over plans for a 25-metre telephone mast which they said would lower the value of their homes.

Cambridge-based Ionica has lodged an application with the city council to build the mast just off Newmarket Road.

But homeowners near the site at the Civil Service sports ground at Wentworth Green wrote to council planners urging them to block the scheme.

A spokeswoman for Vodafone said the latest mast complied with safety guidelines which have been put in place to protect everyone whether people lived near to the mast or not.

"It will be improving voice and text services but also bringing new services to local people," she said.

THE POLICE STATE IS HERE: Commuting By Bus In Denver? Papers, Please.

The "Police State" is at your doorstep! We who have been the "voices crying in the wilderness" feel no satisfaction in saying "WE TOLD YOU SO!" It is time (in fact long past) time to wake up! Thank God for people like Deborah Davis who have the moral strength to stand up for what they believe in. It is the little, piece meal usurpations of power which ultimately create the police state. One thing you should always keep in mind is that "EVERY GOVERNMENT POWER WAS ONCE AN INDIVIDUAL RIGHT! When government has total power, the people have no rights! By definition, that is totalitarianism!!!

Commuting By Bus In Denver? Papers, Please.

http://www.papersplease.org/davis/index.html

Next Stop: Big Brother Meet Deborah Davis. She's a 50 year-old mother of four who lives and works in Denver, Colorado. Her kids are all grown-up: her middle son is a soldier fighting in Iraq. She leads an ordinary, middle class life. You probably never would have heard of Deb Davis if it weren't for her belief in the U.S. Constitution.

Federal Public Transportation Pass This is not America. When honest, law-abiding citizens can't commute to work on a city bus without a demand for their 'papers', something is very, very wrong. One morning in late September 2005, Deb was riding the public bus to work. She was minding her own business, reading a book and planning for work, when a security guard got on this public bus and demanded that every passenger show their ID. Deb, having done nothing wrong, declined. The guard called in federal cops, and she was arrested and charged with federal criminal misdemeanors after refusing to show ID on demand. On the 9th of December 2005, Deborah Davis will be arraigned in U.S. District Court in a case that will determine whether Deb and the rest of us live in a free society, or in a country where we must show "papers" whenever a cop demands them.

Commuting By Bus In Denver? Papers, Please. DEB DAVIS LIKES to commute to work by public bus. She uses the time to read, crochet or pay bills. It's her quiet time. What with the high price of gas, she saves money, too: a week's worth of gas money gets her a month's worth of bus rides.

Deborah Davis and Son Deborah Davis defends freedom at home while her son serves abroad in Iraq. The bus she rides crosses the property of the Denver Federal Center, a collection of government offices such as the Veterans Administration, the U.S. Geological Survey, and part of the National Archives. The Denver Federal Center is not a high security area: it's not Area 51 or NORAD. On her first day commuting to work by bus, the bus stopped at the gates of the Denver Federal Center. A security guard got on and demanded that all of the passengers on this public bus produce ID. She was surprised by the demand of the man in uniform, but she complied: it would have meant a walk of several miles if she hadn't. Her ID was not taken and compared to any "no-ride" list. The guard barely glanced at it. When she got home, what had happened on the bus began to bother her. 'This is not a police state or communist Russia', she thought. From her 8th grade Civics class she knew there is no law requiring her, as an American citizen, to carry ID or any papers, much less show them to anyone on a public bus. She decided she would no longer show her ID on the bus.

The Compliance Test On Monday, September 26th 2005, Deb Davis headed off to work on the route 100 bus. When the bus got to the gates of the Denver Federal Center, a guard got on and asked her if she had an ID. She answered in the affirmative. He asked if he could see it. She said no.

Welcome. Visitors Welcome (to be arrested). The entrance to the Denver Federal Center. When the guard asked why she wouldn't show her ID, Deb told him that she didn't have to do so. The guard then ordered her off the bus. Deb refused, stating she was riding a public bus and just trying to get to work. The guard then went to call his supervisor, and returned shortly with a federal policeman. The federal cop then demanded her ID. Deb politely explained once again that she would not show her ID, and she was simply commuting to work. He left, returning shortly thereafter with a second policeman in tow.

The Second Compliance Test This second cop asked the same question and got the same answer: no showing of ID, no getting off the bus. The cop was also annoyed with the fact that she was on the phone with a friend and didn't feel like hanging up, even when he 'ordered' her to do so. The second cop said everyone had to show ID any time they were asked by the police, adding that if she were in a Wal-Mart and was asked by the police for ID, that she would have to show it there, too. She explained that she didn't have to show him or any other policeman my ID on a public bus or in a Wal-Mart. She told him she was simply trying to go to work.

The Arrest Suddenly, the second policeman shouted "Grab her!" and he grabbed the cell phone from her and threw it to the back of the bus. With each of the policemen wrenching one of her arms behind her back, she was jerked out of her seat, the contents of her purse and book bag flying everywhere. The cops shoved her out of the bus, handcuffed her, threw her into the back seat of a police cruiser, and drove her to a police station inside the confines of the Denver Federal Center. Once inside, she was taken down a hall and told to sit in a chair, still handcuffed, while one of the policemen went through her purse, now retrieved from the bus. The two policemen sat in front of their computers, typing and conferring, trying to figure out what they should charge her with. Eventually, they wrote up several tickets, took her outside and removed the handcuffs, returned her belongings, and pointed her toward the bus stop. She was told that if she ever entered the Denver Federal Center again, she would go to jail. She hasn't commuted by public bus since that day.

The Legal Case Deborah Davis' case is about one thing: the right to travel. The reason why she was charged has absolutely nothing to do with security. The guard at the Denver Federal Center wasn't checking IDs against a 'no ride' list: there is no such thing. The demands made against Deb Davis were nothing more than a compliance test, a demand that she kowtow to officialdom. And lest we forget, having to show your ID is a search without a warrant. By 'Welcome', they mean 'Show us your papers'. Yet more signs at a Denver Federal Center entrance. The significance of Deb's case was readily apparent to the http://www.aclu-co.org/ American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado, who immediately arranged free legal representation. The first-rate legal team of ACLU volunteers Norman Mueller and Gail Johnson attorneys from the prominent Colorado criminal defense firm of http://www.hmflaw.com Haddon, Morgan, Mueller, Jordan, Mackey & Foreman, P.C. are mounting a vigorous defense on Deborah Davis' behalf. Deborah Davis responded to this compliance test in a way that would have made the Founding Fathers proud. She is being prosecuted for no reason other than being 'uppity' in the face of authority. When Deb is arraigned in U.S. District Court on the 9th of December, she will most likely be charged with the following federal criminal misdemeanors: 41 CFR § 102-74.375 (Admission to Property) and 41 CFR § 102-74.385 (Conformity to Official Signs and Directions). Through these charges, it appears that the Feds are claiming that people were on notice that they had to show ID. Nowhere is this evident, unless 'Public Welcome' flags are bureaucratese for 'Papers, please'. In addition, Deb wasn't even visiting the Denver Federal Center. That the public bus transits the facility isn't her fault. If the Center really is Denver's answer to Area 51, then public buses should be driving around not through the Center.

What's Wrong With Showing ID? "There are good people with bad papers; and bad people with good papers." - Bertold Brecht

What does an ID, any ID, do for security? The honest answer is 'not much'. If anyting, relying on ID for security purposes actually makes things worse. Showing ID only affects honest people. If you're dishonest, you can obtain false documents or steal the identity of an honest person. If a 19 year-old college student can get a fake ID to drink, why couldn't a bad person get one, too? And no matter how sophisticated the security embedded into the ID, wouldn't a well-financed terrorist be able to falsify that, too? The answer to both questions is obviously 'yes'. Honest people, on the other hand, go to Pro-Life rallies. Honest people attend gun shows. Honest people protest the President of the United States. Honest people fly to political conventions. Honest people also commute by public bus to work. What if those with the power to put people on a 'no ride' list decided that they didn't like the reason for which you wanted to travel? The honest people wouldn't be going anywhere. Bad people, besides using fake IDs and stolen identities, can also make the system of checking IDs work in their favor. The Carnival Booth effect, as described by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, means that terrorists can probe an ID security system by sending a number of people on innocent trips through the system and noting who is flagged for extra searches and who isn't. They then send only those who the system doesn't flag on terrorist missions. Still, some Americans think that "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear." Were the Founding Fathers criminals trying to protect themselves when they inserted the 4th and 5th amendments into the Bill of Rights? After all, nobody who hasn't done anything wrong needs to worry about being searched or being forced to testify against himself. Over the years, Americans have become accustomed to showing ID in any number of circumstances. Few have asked the question, 'Why?'. The Department of Homeland Security has attempted to institute programs predicated on the use of ID to improve security. The fact of the matter is that demands for ID do nothing for security while making honest Americans less free.

Gail Johnson, a volunteer ACLU lawyer and respected criminal defense attorney from the law offices of http://www.hmflaw.com Haddon, Morgan, Mueller, Jordan, Mackey & Foreman, P.C., is defending Deb's right to travel freely in her own country.

Creating a Right-Wing Nation, State by State

The more I know, the more I worry!
Creating a Right-Wing Nation, State by State
By Joshua Holland, AlterNet. Posted November 16, 2005.

A couple of staffers for People for the American Way went undercover to a conference of the ultra-conservative American Legislative Exchange Council. Here's what they discovered.

We've heard much talk of the states serving as "progressive laboratories" in recent years. But conservatives have been working to shape state laws for the past 30 years. The center of gravity for that effort is the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the nation's largest network of state legislators.

Founded in 1973, ALEC was the brainchild of paleocon Paul Weyrich , a leading "Movement conservative" and the head of the Free Congress Foundation (in 1973 Weyrich also co-founded the Heritage Foundation). It is the connective tissue that links state legislators with right-wing think tanks, leading anti-tax activists and corporate money. ALEC is a public-policy mill that churns out "model legislation" for the states that are unfailingly pro-business. The organization fights against civil rights laws, as well as consumer, labor and environmental initiatives. [...] More at

Fox News refuses to air anti-Alito ad

A great woman lawyer in our area (she knows who she is!) sent me this one: Fox News refuses to air anti-Alito ad November 23, 2005 Chicago Sun-Times

WASHINGTON -- Fox News is refusing to air an ad critical of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, citing its lawyers' contention that the spot is factually incorrect.

A spokesman for the groups sponsoring the ad said the network's decision reflects the political right's effort to shield President Bush's choice for the high court.

The ad says that as an appellate court judge, Alito has ''ruled to make it easier for corporations to discriminate . . . even voted to approve strip search of a 10-year-old girl.'' Referring to a document Alito wrote in 1985 while seeking a job in the Reagan administration, it quotes him as saying that ''the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion.'' Hide Cellular Phones From Children

Scientists are concerned with commodization of mobile communications. Although the damage of cellular phones’ electromagnetic radiation has never been proved, their safety can not be warranted either. Chairman of the Russian National Committee for defense from nonionizing radiation, Doctor of Science (Medicine), Professor, Yuri Grigirievich Grigoriev advises that children and teenagers are particularly sensitive to electromagnetic radiation. Judging by some data, long child’s conversations on the cellular phone may painfully affect in mature age.

To evaluate safety of cellular phones, consequences of long-term electromagnetic fields’ influence should be investigated. The overwhelming majority of medical investigation of mobile communications was performed abroad and was devoted to short-term effects. Domestic researchers have accumulated a lot of data about state of health of the people who worked for years with the sources of electromagnetic radiation. Summing up all these data, Yu. G. Grigoriev affirms that cellular phones are unsafe. Even a short telephone conversation often affects the brain activity: participants of experiment spend more time on fulfilment of test assignments, which is particularly important for students and schoolchildren, some people complain of headache and some distraction.

This annoyance is over soon but lengthy intense use of cellular communications result in more serious consequences. Some users suffer regularly from headaches, after a five-minute telephone conversation the ache being intensified. People complain of fatiguability, irritability, discomfort feeling, giddiness, difficulty in concentrating attention. The specialists who spent years working with sources of high-frequency electromagnetic radiation acquire vegetative disorders and neurasthenic symptoms. Experiments with young rats deserve particular attention.

As children and teenagers are particularly sensitive to negative impact of electromagnetic fields, therefore cellular communication is strongly contra-indicated to them. This opinion is shared by the majority of European scientists. In 2001, the European Parliament Research Group recommended to all EU member countries to prohibit children under 16 to use cellular phones. Physicians of Great Britain accepted similar recommendations in 1999, World Health Organization – in 2000, Russian physicians – in 2001. Unfortunately, physicians’ recommendations in Russia have no validity. The number of underage subscribers of mobile communications is steadily growing in Russia , and cellular phones manufactures develop special child’s models. In the meantime, adverse effect of electromagnetic radiation is superimposed on the influence of other unfavorable environmental and social factors. Within the last 12 years, Russian teenagers morbidity has increased several times. Although it is impossible to ensure healthy way of life for all teenagers, at least cellular phones should be immediately taken away from them.

So weit ging bislang keine andere Kantonsregierung.

http://www.facts.ch/dyn/magazin/wirtschaft/564542.html

Was bewirkt Strahlung?

stg.
