Urgent Request & New Actions About Recount

(1)Tell Democrats to demand full recount like Greens which will have more weight when local Board of Elections decide whether to do full recount or only recount 3%. Now Dems are not sure if they will demand it or not!

(2) Update and Urgent Request for recount coordinators from PENNSYLVANIA, MICHIGAN, WISCONSIN, ILLINOIS AND WEST VIRGINIA. AND INDIANA from Green Recount Coordinator., Holly hhartus@yahoo.com

(3) More info about Recount if you want to volunteer, offer housing, or donate.

(4) For more urgent actions --some very user friendly-- check this new site which is easy to navigate

It will begin on different days--the 14th, 15th, and 16th.

A.The Green party is demanding a FULL recount and the Democrats are not sure if they will make that request yet. They might be satisfied with a 3% hand count and let the rest run through the same faulty machines! The local Ohio Boards of Elections different counties which makes the final decision will get "cover" if the Democrats are satisfied with 3%. Tell the Dems what you think!

Ever growing Concerns surrounding Mobile Masts and their Effects

Beneath is a transcript from a reply I have received from Phil Wills, MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Education & Skills:

Thank you for writign to me regarding the risks posed to our children with regard to mobile phone technology.

My position as Liberal Democrat Secretary of State for Education and Skills is impacted by the ever growing concerns surrounding mobile masts and their effects. However, in my role as chair of the all-party parliamentary group on mobil communications, we are constantly analysing and scrutinizing the mobil industry.

The group published a report in July which included a list of 19 recommendations which have been submitted to the Government. We are currently in the process of ascertaining what the Government intends to do with the recommendations and the report and will continue to push this issue.

I have also ben involved in a campaign in my local constituency to prevent the erection of a mobile phone masts near three schools. The case has gone all the way to the High Curt and the court of appeal. The appeal court decided to uphold the mobile operators plans to erect a mast near three schools which has come as a body blow to concerned parents throughout the country. The effect of this decision is to sweep aside the recommendations in the Stewart Report and give mobile phone operators freedom to site masts on or near school playing fields throughout the United Kingdom.

However, I can assure you that your concerns along with those of parents across the country will be fed into the work that the group does. We continue to push the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to investigate possible amendments to the Governments guidelines and to take on the information provided by the Stewart Report which among other things advises a precautionary principle to be taken with regards to children.

AS A PRACTICAL PIECE OF ADVICE ON THE ISSUE OF MOBILE PHONE MASTS, CONTACTING MAST ACTION UK OR MAST SANITY SHOULD PROVE INVALUABLE AS THEY ARE AN EXCELLENT SOURCE OF INFORMATION.

English Nature shows interest

An encouraging response I think from English Nature, courtesy of their Chief Scientist, Dr Duff. Transcript as beneath.

I must add that this is of distinct difference to replies from DEFRA who state 'our view remains that there is a lack of conclusive evidence that radiation from telecommunication masts has important adverse effects on wildlife...I am afraid that there are no plans by this Department to conduct further research in this area at the present time' - replies to Simon Harding, Species Policy Advisor, simon.r.harding@defra.gsi.gov.uk

Transcript from English Natures reply:
I am replying on behalf of our Chief Executive, who will see both your letter and this reply. As you note in your letter the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology completed a review of the evidence for effects of microwave radiation on wildlife for English Nature in 2002. We are very grateful to you for alerting us to some additional research carried out since then. Our toxicology specialist has asked CEH to examine the additional reports of adverse effects which you have referred to in your letter. We will examine their conslusions carefully and I assure you that we will be using this in any subsequent advice to Government on further research or action needed.

Thank you for highlighting this additional source of evidence and for providing details of the relevant references which has greatly helped us to follow up your concerns.

EU REFLEX Project Report

Verum Reflex Presentation
http://omega.twoday.net/stories/446305/

--------

The Report of the European Union's REFLEX Project (Risk Evaluation of Potential Environmental Hazards from Low Frequency Electromagnetic Field Exposure Using Sensitive in vitro Methods) was released in November, 2004. The Project studied ELF and RF exposures to various cell types. Swedish RF researcher and epidemiologist Lennart Hardell has sent the link to the entire 291-page report (See below. It's a long download, so be patient).

Of particular interest after as cursory read through -
pp. 1-3 Foreward by Ross Adey
pp. 7-8 Introduction - the goals of the REFLEX Project
pp. 239-242 Section 7.0 POLICY RELATED BENEFITS.

From 7.12 Summary
... the omnipresence of EMF's in infrastructures and consumer products have become a topic of public concern. This is due to the fear of people that based on the many conflicting research data a risk to their health cannot be excluded with some certainty. Therefore, the overall objective of REFLEX was to find out whether or not the fundamental biological processes at the cellular and molecular level support such an assumption. For this purpose, possible effects of EMFs on cellular events controlling key functions, including those involved in carcinogenesis and in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders, were studied through focussed research. Failure to observe the occurrence of such key critical events in living cells after EMF exposure would have suggested that further research efforts in this field could be suspended and financial resources be reallocated to the investigation of more important issues. But as clearly demonstrated, the results of the REFLEX project show the way into the opposite direction.

Key emphases of the REFLEX Project were to develop reliable exposure equipment, to assure that exposure parameters were consistent and thoroughly documented, and to examine how differences in techniques for cell culture preparation such as staining of specimens yielded differing results. Along with consistency in genotype of study specimens, these emphases are of crucial importance to the replication of studies from one laboratory to another.

7.12 Summary (Participant 1) The policy related benefits of the REFLEXproject consist in the fact that new knowledge has been generated independent of whether one likes it or not. Biological effects of extremely low-frequency (ELF) and radio-frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields (EMFs) the exposure to which is constantly increasing especially in Europe with its high density of population and industry and with the omnipresence of EMFs in infrastructures and consumer products have become a topic of public concern. This is due to the fear of people that based on the many conflicting research data a risk to their health cannot be excluded with some certainty. Therefore, the overall objective of REFLEX was to find out whether or not the fundamental biological processes at the cellular and molecular level support such an assumption. ...in carcinogenesis and in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders, were studied through focussed research. The REFLEX project has made a substantial contribution to the data base on biological effects of both ELF-EMF and RF-EMF on in vitro cellular systems. The study was designed to investigate whether or not EMF exposure below the energy density reflected by the present safety levels generates in vitro critical cellular events. Gene mutations, deregulated cell proliferation and suppressed or exaggerated programmed cell death (apoptosis) that are caused by or result in an altered gene and protein expression profile are such critical events, the convergence of which is required for the development of chronic diseases.

Genotoxic effects and a modified expression of numerous genes and proteins after EMF exposure could be demonstrated with great certainty, while effects on cell proliferation, cell differentiation and apoptosis were much less conclusive. Since all these observations were made in in vitro studies, the results obtained neither preclude nor confirm a health risk due to EMF exposure, but they speak in favour of such a possibility. Because of their fundamental character the findings will be presented to WHO, IARC and ICNIRP. It will be up to these organisations to make use of them for risk evaluation, in combination with findings from animal and epidemiological studies. A major European added value of REFLEX consists also in the fact that the need for further research and especially how it should look alike have clearly been demonstrated. Furthermore, the outcome of the project should stimulate the research and development departments of the electrical, electronic, and telecommunication industry to make use of the methods developed in order to better adjust the state of technology to the conditions of life, and prompt the European governments to ensure multidisciplinary EMF research in order to take care, that the solution of the presently existing problem of uncertainty about a possible health risk for the people in Europe and beyond due to EMF exposure will not be postponed in the far future.

Vorsicht mit Handys beim Tanken - Warning after three incidents in which mobile phones (cell phones) ignited fumes during fueling operations

Wichtig, Vorsicht mit Handys beim Tanken

The Shell Oil Company recently issued a warning after three incidents in which mobile phones (cell phones) ignited fumes during fueling operations.

In the first case, the phone was placed on the car's trunk lid during fueling; it rang and the ensuing fire destroyed the car and the gasoline pump.

In the second, an individual suffered severe burns to their face when fumes ignited as they answered a call while refueling their car.

And in the third, an individual suffered burns to the thigh and groin as fumes ignited when the phone, which was in their pocket, rang while they were fueling their car.

You should know that:

Mobile Phones can ignite fuel or fumes

Mobile phones that light up when switched on or when they ring release enough energy to provide a spark for ignition

Mobile phones should not be used in filling stations, or when fueling lawn mowers, boat! , etc.

Mobile phones should not be used, or should be turned off, around other materials that generate flammable or explosive fumes or dust, (i.e. solvents, chemicals, gases, grain dust, etc.)

To sum it up, here are the: Four Rules for Safe Refueling

1) Turn off engine
2) Don't smoke
3) Don't use your cell phone - leave it inside the vehicle or turn it off
4) Don't re-enter your vehicle during fueling

Bob Renkes of Petroleum Equipment Institute is working on a campaign to try and make people aware of fires as a result of"static electricity" at gas pumps. His company has researched 150 cases of these fires.

His results were very surprising:
1) Out of 150 cases, almost all of them were women.
2) Almost all cases involved the person getting back in their vehicle while the nozzle was still pumping gas. When finished, they went back to pull the nozzle out and the fire started, as a result of static.
3) Most had on rubber-soled shoes.
4) Most men never get back in their vehicle until completely finished. This is why they are seldom involved in these types of fires.
5) Don't ever use cell phones when pumping gas
6) It is the vapors that come out of the gas that cause the fire, when connected with static charges.
7) There were 29 fires where the vehicle was re-entered and the nozzle was touched during refueling from a variety of makes and models. Some resulted in extensive damage to the vehicle, to the station, and to the customer.
8) Seventeen fires occurred before, during or immediately after the gas cap was removed and before fueling began.

Mr. Renkes stresses to NEVER get back into your vehicle while filling it with gas.

If you absolutely HAVE to get in your vehicle while the gas is pumping, make sure you get out, close the door TOUCHING THE METAL, before you ever pull the nozzle out. This way the static from your body will be discharged before you ever remove the nozzle.

As I mentioned earlier, The Petroleum Equipment Institute, along with several other companies now, are really trying to make the public aware of this danger. You can find out more information by going to http://www.pei.org/ . Once here, click in the center of the screen where it says "Stop Static".

I ask you to please send this information to ALL your family and friends, especially those who have kids in the car with them while pumping gas. If this were to happen to them, they may not be able to get the children out in time. Thanks for passing this along.

It's a mess - Lets fix it

We all put a lot of time, money and heart into the election. Now there's a lot of Internet traffic speculating that the election was stolen. The staff at TrueMajority has been involved in many meetings and conference calls with the top organizations working on this stuff.

Here's the consensusnobody has found a smoking gun proving that the election was stolen. Even the authors of statistical studies questioning the election agree that their work isn't evidence of a fraudulent vote.[1]

However (and this is a big "however"), we DO think there is a crisis. The Voting Rights Act is 39 years old, but STILL this year minority voters were blocked from the polls by ridiculously long lines (5- to 6-hour waiting times), threats and physical intimidation.[2] Also, as we predicted early in the year, electronic voting systems failed and lost votes.[3] The registration and voting process was manipulated by political hacks.[4] Due to official secrecy, we still dont know the magnitude of what went wrong, but we know it was far too much.

Volunteers with the Election Protection Coalition, of which TrueMajority is a part, documented thousands of specific problems. The Congresss Government Accountability Office will be studying the elections problems, and well be bird-dogging them throughout that months-long process to make sure the report isnt a whitewash. Well be joining with folks such as Rev. Jesse Jackson in pushing for national standards for national elections (they dont currently exist). And well continue our fight to require paper ballots for all voting machines.

So as the months go on there is a lot we will be doing. Right now, the best tool we have for identifying problems with the system are the official recounts sponsored by the Green and Libertarian parties in Ohio and elsewhere. One recount in a county in Ohio, for example, turned up a problem with the optical scanners that led to a Republican being wrongly declared the winner of a county commissioner race. We support those recount efforts as the best way to identify the problems that need fixing.

The Green and Libertarian parties are raising money to pay for these expensive recounts.

We will continue to keep you informed on this. And we will continue to find new ways to make compassion, equality and opportunity the values that guide our nation.

Hang in there,

Ben

Chemical Industry is mounting a major Campaign against Precautionary Principle

December 2004

The chemical industry is mounting a major campaign against the precautionary principle. They have hired two attack-dog public relations firms, Nichols-Dezenhall, and Wirthlin WorldWide, to discredit precaution in the minds of the public. They started laying the ground work for this campaign four years ago, and now they are ramping up their attack. (For some eye-popping documentation, see

http://www.rachel.org/library/getfile.cfm?ID=492 and
http://www.rachel.org/library/getfile.cfm?ID=493.)

They have developed a consistent "party line" that they are repeating at conferences, at public hearings, and in the media. They use consistent down-home language to make precaution seem foolish, unnecessary and dangerous.

They have developed a series of stories that they tell to illustrate why precaution is a bad idea. Their favorite story is the one in which the Peruvian government hears that chlorine is dangerous. The Peruvians act on this knowledge -- they take "precautionary action" and stop chlorinating their water supply -- which causes several thousand deaths from cholera.

I heard this story told almost two years face by a professor at Stanford University, and the same story told this summer by a professor at Rutgers, the state university of New Jersey. Neither of these esteemed scholars checked their facts before telling the story. If they had, they'd have found out the story was bogus and untrue -- a piece of fiction intended to scare people away from the precautionary principle.

Now the anti-precaution campaign is gaining traction. Letters to the editor have begun to appear in newspaper across the country. In the most recent issues of Rachel's we analyzed some anti-precaution nonsense planted in the New York Times Nov. 21.

Their plan is simple: they are attacking the precautionary principle itself as unnecessary and extremist; they are attacking the advocates of precaution as extremists and uninformed Chicken Littles; and they are claiming that "risk assessment" is totally precautionary. Not long ago, I heard a representative of the American Chemistry Council (formerly, the Chemical Manufacturers Association) tell an audience of 200 people that the chemical industry doesn't need the precautionary principle because it is already fully precautionary.

So we've got our work cut out for us:

** We've got to debunk risk assessment and show how it has caused enormous harm to human health and the environment;

** We've got to catalog how the precautionary principle is being used by sensible people around the country and, indeed, around the world;

** We've got to develop common-sense, plain-language arguments of our own so people can write their own letters to the editor advocating precaution.

** We've got to continue to expose what the chemical industry is up to.

Urteil des Landgerichts München I vom 19.

Don't let Iraq vets become homeless

Veterans for Common Sense agrees one hundred percent with the editorial below: "Don't let Iraq vets become homeless." With nearly one million service members already sent to Iraq or Afghanistan, and with many more veterans surviving major combat trauma wounds, our Nation and government must prepare ourselves to welcome our warriors home and provide for their physical and mental healthcare needs.

US Army plagued by desertion and plunging morale

View from England: US Army plagued by desertion and plunging morale

Desertions, legal challenges to "stop loss," opposition to the "back door draft," poor recruiting results, and open confrontations with the Secretary of Defense add up to very serious morale problems among U.S. soldiers fighting in the Iraq War, according to the Times Online. Interestingly, President George W. Bush wants Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to remain in his position while Rumsfeld continues to fail and the situation in Iraq deteriorates further and further into civil war.

Guantanamo Detainee Details Beatings and Torture

According to the Associated Press, "Prisoners at the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have been beaten while blindfolded and handcuffed, terrorized by attack dogs and forced to take drugs, an Australian detainee said in an affidavit released Thursday." This makes three serious torture scandals with roots in the White House and Defense Department: Cuba, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Pass-RFIDS : Mit HF analog verblasbar

"kontaktlose Smartcards" funktionieren
Viel Watt gegen sehr wenig Watt

Beschäftigungsgesellschaften - Konjunktur in Krisenzeiten

Jahrhundert entwickelt Thomas More Ideen in diese Richtung.

A defeat for an empire

by Robert Jensen

The United States has lost the war in Iraq, and that's a good thing. I don't mean that the loss of American and Iraqi lives is to be celebrated. The death and destruction are numbingly tragic, and the
suffering in Iraq is hard for most of us in the United States to comprehend. The tragedy is compounded because these deaths haven't protected Americans or brought freedom to Iraqis. They have come in the quest to extend the American empire in this 'new American century.' So, as a U.S. citizen, I welcome the U.S. defeat for a simple reason: It isn't the defeat of the United States -- its people or their ideals -- but of that empire. And it's essential that the American empire be defeated and dismantled...

The pharmaceutical and petrochemical (oil) industries are held in the hands of the same financial interest groups, such as Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan. They were the largest donors to Bush’s election campaign in 2000.

Without this money, the Bush administration would not be in the White House today.

In return, five out of ten key legislative initiatives during the Bush administration were nothing other than trillion dollar government subsidy programs for the pharmaceutical drug cartel.
