Dear Editor: The AOL info re "sleep epidemic" online is very important; however lacking one of the most vital pieces of information.
I am currently working with Assoc. Prof. Olle Johansson, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden to "speak out" on behalf of children around-the-world. "SLEEP" is the first noticeable health change in children (actually "anyone") if that child or person is sleeping close to electric appliances that include electric meters, electric clocks, electric clock radios, telephone equipment especially cordless phones with small power supply boxes.
The NIH knows that the EMF Interagency Committee Final Report that finds EMF's to be a possible Class 2 carcinogen and that has been linked numerous times to Leukemia, has never been released to Congress. Politicians do not respond to pleas for help regardless of their affiliation.
We also have epidemics of asthma, autism, learning disorders and countless other health problems, many of which would be greatly reduced if publications such as yours would help to get the word out. Chronic infections and headaches also make it difficult for children to sleep and attend school. These are all common "rebound effects" due to reduced Melatonin levels as result of sleeping in close proximity to electrical devices. The costs to society are enormous!!!
Bonnie Boyum, Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, has given me permission to share that her son, Michael Boyum, who died from Leukemia at age 23, had an electric clock and small fan within 6-8" of his head (headboard of his bed).
Two of my grandsons were diagnosed with rare immune deficiencies that were rare because low subclasses 1 and 3 indicate "ageing" (of cells). They "got well" when we moved their beds away from walls opposite electric meters. They suffered chronic asthma and sinus infections. We were told they may develop Leukemia.
Cages with two guinea pigs each were placed against our own back bedroom wall. They were soon diagnosed with asthma. White blood cell counts were severe and indicated possible precancerous changes. Large numbers of neutrophils were "hypersegmented" (slowed DNA synthesis) which is "a marker for irradiation." One out of each set of two died within 30 days.
