The Emperor-in-Chief
Dear Ms. Pelosi:
The following editorial, by Marjorie Cohn, a distinguished professor of law, expresses the traditional viewpoint of the founders of the United States, a viewpoint that came under attack by presidents in the 20th century to the great detriment of the nation and democratic government:
http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/122704A.shtml
This viewpoint is arguably held today by those who voted against George W. Bush in 2004 and by conservatives who feel that Bush has gone too far to the right of their political positions. This would suggest that a majority of the electorate feel that the nation is on the slippery slope, sliding toward fascism.
The work of Democratic Senators and Representatives for the next four years will be more difficult than ever before. The overarching goal is to stop a train wreck that, up to now, Congress has been going along with. If Congress does not show the backbone to fight this fight, there is little doubt that this nation will soon become a third world nation, an effective dictatorship, and a menace to the world.
Ms. Pelosi, this means unrelenting opposition to the Republican Party's every move, whenever, and wherever the attacks come. No fight is too small to tackle. This juggernaut must be stopped. The very survival of democracy requires it. Of recent years the Democrats have been as closely associated with corporations as Republicans, and that is why we're sliding toward fascism. This must cease if the Party is to survive. We are in a fight for the survival of government of the people, by the people, and for the people. You must lead. The future of our nation hangs in the balance.
Yours truly,
Jerry J. Lobdill
