World Journal of Surgical Oncology (Zeitschrift für chirurgische Onkologie) pen Access Tumorrisiken bei der Benutzung von Mobiltelefonen oder Schnurlostelefonen

Zusammenfassung:

Hintergrund: In den letzten 10 Jahren ist die Anzahl von Mobil- und Schnurlostelefonen sehr stark gestiegen. Es kann angenommen werden, dass gesundheitliche Probleme wie bösartige Erkrankungen aufgrund von Strahlungen entstehen, denen man während des Benutzens dieser Geräte ausgesetzt ist. Das Gehirn ist hauptsächlich davon betroffen.

Methodik: Seit Mitte der 90er Jahre haben wir 6 Fall-Kontrollstudien zu diesem Thema durchgeführt, bei denen sowohl Mobil- und Schnurlostelefone als auch andere Einflüsse berücksichtigt wurden. Drei Studien beschäftigten sich mit Gehirntumoren, eine Studie mit Speicheldrüsenkrebs, eine mit Non-Hodgkin Lymphom (Lymphknotenkrebs) und eine mit Hodenkrebs. Die Strahlenexposition wurde anhand von Fragebögen selbst abgeschätzt.

Ergebnisse: Hinsichtlich des Akustikusneurinoms ergaben analoge Mobiltelefone odds ratio (OR) = 2.9, 95% Konfidenzintervall (CI) = 2.0–4.3, digitale Mobiltelefone OR = 1.5, 95 % CI = 1.1–2.1 und Schnurlostelefone OR = 1.5, 95 % CI = 1.04–2.0. Die entsprechenden Ergebnisse für Astrozytome Grad III-IV waren jeweils OR = 1.7, 95 % CI = 1.3–2.3; OR = 1.5, 95 % CI = 1.2–1.9 und OR = 1.5, 95 % CI = 1.1–1.9. Die ORs erhöhten sich in der Latenzperiode auf höchste Schätzwerte bei >10 Jahren seit Beginn der Benutzung dieser Art von Telefonen. Für Astrozytome Grad I-II wurden niedrigere ORs berechnet. Es wurde kein Zusammenhang zu Speicheldrüsenkrebs, NHL oder Hodenkrebs festgestellt, wobei ein Zusammenhang mit Non-Hodgkin T-Zellen Lymphom nicht ausgeschlossen werden konnte.

Schlußfolgerung: Für alle in der Studie untersuchten Telefon-Typen konnte ein erhöhtes Risiko für Gehirntumore, hauptsächlich für Akustikusneurinome und bösartige Gehirntumore festgestellt werden. OR erhöhte sich mit der Latenzperiode besonders bei Akustikusneurinome Grad III-IV. Bei Speicheldrüsenkrebs, NHL oder Hodenkrebs konnte kein einheitliches Schema für ein erhöhtes Risiko festgestellt werden.

ÄRZTEKONGRESS IN MURNAU FORDERT: BEIM MOBILFUNK BESTEHT DRINGENDER HANDLUNGSBEDARF !!

Murnau (sz) – Am Samstag fand die Murnauer Ärztetagung „Mobilfunk und Gesundheit“ statt. Diese offizielle Tagung eines „Ärztlichen Qualitätszirkels der Bayerischen Landesärztekammer wurde von mehr als 250 Teilnehmern besucht und zeigte auf, dass aus medizinischer Sicht in Sachen Mobilfunk dringender Handlungsbedarf besteht.

Die Referenten der Tagung, darunter namhafte Wissenschaftler und Ärzte wie zum Beispiel Dr. Lebrecht von Klitzing (Medizinphysiker), Dr. Wolf Bergmann (Freiburger Appell), Dr. Markus Kern (Allgäuer Ärzteinitiative) und Dr. Cornelia Waldmann-Selsam ((Bamberger Ärzteinitiative) und Dr. Ing. Dipl. Physiker Volker Schorpp, konnten in überzeugender Weise aufzeigen, dass die derzeit verwendeten Mobilfunktechniken zu erheblichen gesundheitlichen Belastungen der Bevölkerung führen.

Kritisiert wurden dabei nicht nur die Mobilfunktelefone nach GSM und UMTS-Standart, sondern ebenso die schnurlosen DECT-Heimtelefone und moderne Bürokommunikationssysteme wie Wlan oder Bluetooth. Anhand zahlreicher vorliegender Fallstudien und einer Auswertung entsprechender unabhängiger Forschungsergebnisse, so die Referenten, muss man heute dringend vor einer weiteren Anwendung oder gar Ausweitung dieser Techniken warnen. Alle Vortragenden waren sich darin einig, dass dringender Handlungsbedarf im Sinne einer vorbeugenden Gesundheitspolitik besteht.

Unterstützt wurden die wissenschaftlichen Ausführungen durch Erfahrungsberichte von mehreren elektrosensiblen Referenten wie dem Kommunikationstechniker Ulrich Weiner oder der Tagungsleiterin Suzanne Sohmer.

Am Ende der Tagung erging ein dringender Appell an alle Mediziner, sich umfassend und industrieunabhängig über die vorliegenden Fakten zu informieren. Das sogenannte Mikrowellensyndrom mit seinen vielfältigen Auswirkungen auf die Gesundheit von immer mehr Patientinnen und Patienten als entscheidende Ursache für Krankheitserscheinungen, so die einhellige Meinung, müsse in den Blickpunkt der täglichen ärztlichen Praxis geraten.

Darüber hinaus wurde an die Adresse der politisch Verantwortlichen in der Gesundheitspolitik die Forderung erhoben endlich eine ausreichende Vorsorgepolitik umzusetzen. So gelte es drastische Grenzwertsenkungen beim Mobilfunk zu erlassen, ein Verbot von DECT-Telefonen wie in Asien oder in Amerika zu beschließen, und die stetig steigende Zahl von gesundheitlich Betroffenen – man spricht derzeit bereits von ca. 10 bis 15 Millionen Personen - vor weiteren gesundheitlichen Belastungen durch elektromagnetische Wellen zu schützen.

Auch auf einen weiteren Aspekt der Thematik Mobilfunkstrahlung wurde hingewiesen: Da bei strahlungsbedingten Erkrankungen im Wesentlichen mit Langzeitwirkungen zu rechnen ist, müssen die Krankenkassen in der Zukunft mit erheblichen zusätzlichen finanziellen Belastungen aus dem Bereich der strahlungstoxisch verursachten Erkrankungen rechnen.

EXIT INDEPENDENT EMF RESEARCH, ENTER POTBOILER SCIENCE

The recent EMF meeting in Crete, http://imm.demokritos.gr/bioeffects was the 4th in a series of meetings on Biological Effects of EMF, taking place every second year in a Greek island. Despite its success these meetings will now be discontinued. These meetings were one of the few of its kind where it was possible to present results that show biological and negative health effects due to EMF. Apparently the organizers have been under great pressure to change this, but instead of they have decided to stop organizing these meetings. At the last meeting the industrial and WHO stooges claimed loudly that many of the contributions were of low-quality and should not have been accepted or in other words negative effects of EMF should not be presented. These people were present in the audience at almost every presentation that mentioned biological or negative health effects of EMF. During the discussion they were always the first to criticize the work as being bad science, incorrect results, never been duplicated etc. Now Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria and Malta are eager to organize these meetings, but nothing was mentioned about their political message.

Furthermore, there is reason to suspect that editors and journal staff may suppress publication of scientific results that are adverse to industry owing to internal conflict of interest between editorial integrity and business needs

I forward here this newly published article by Lennart Hardell, Elihu Richter and others called "Secret Ties" (article is attached. See journal citation and link below) that describes industry influence over the reported outcome of "independent" scientific research that is being strategically designed to affect policy development and legal decisions. Among the many case studies well documented herein, I especially refer you to the section on how Motorola's behind the scenes participation in certain studies in Sweden on possible epidemiological connections between cell phones and brain tumors were aimed at discrediting the work of Lennart Hardell. Motorola's involvement in those studies was found to be tied to a major tort claim against Motorola brought by Dr. Chris Newman, who later died of brain cancer. Hardell's testimony in this case was considered pivitol to its outcome. The paper recommends that scientific integrity requires greater transparency and continued monitoring is required by the independent scientific community and editors of scientific journals.

Brain tumors are some of the most lethal adult cancers and there is a concern that the incidence is increasing. It has been suggested that the reported increased incidence can be explained by improvements in diagnostic procedures, although this has not been totally resolved. The aim of our study was to describe the incidence trends of adult primary intracerebral tumors in four Nordic countries during a period with introduction of new diagnostic procedures and increasing prevalence of mobile phone users. Information about benign and malignant primary intracerebral tumor cases 20-79 years of age was obtained from the national cancer registries in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden for the years 1969-98 and estimates of person-years at risk were calculated from the information obtained from national population registries. Annual age standardized incidence rates per 100,000 person-years were calculated and time trends analyses were carried out using Poisson regression. The overall incidence of all intracerebral tumors ranged from 8.4-11.8 for men and 5.8-9.3 for women, corresponding to an average annual increase of 0.6% for men (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.4, 0.7) and 0.9% for women (95% CI = 0.7, 1.0). The increase in the incidence was confined to the late 1970s and early 1980s and coinciding with introduction of improved diagnostic methods. This increase was largely confined to the oldest age group. After 1983 and during the period with increasing prevalence of mobile phone users, the incidence has remained relatively stable for both men and women. Copyright 2003 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

- This is happy news for all mobile phone users, but the result is no surprise for us who work with this says Lars Klaeboe, at the Cancer Society.

He is one of the researchers behind the new study, which is a cooperation between the Cancer Society and the Radiation Protection Bureau and a part of a large research project under the WHO.

Many mobile phone users have been worried over the heat felt on the side of the head where the phone have been held during conversations

- The heat from radiation is so small that it cannot be recognized, this is probably due to the heating of the battery and has no relation to the radiation says Klaeboe.

The study shows that there are no reasons for worry that the heat or the radiation leads to brain tumours.

- The radiation from the phones is not strong enough to damage DNA in the cells says Klaeboe and says that much of the worries among people may be due to the fact that the word radiation is being used in connection with mobile phones.

Mobile phone masts: 80% of published studies show health nuisances

If you look at epidemiological studies on mobile phone base stations available on either on WHO EMF database http://www.who.int/peh-emf/research/database or on PUBMED http://www.pubmed.org , there are only 10 published peer-reviewed studies: 8 of them show positive results (= health nuisances) and 2 show negative results.

Message for the Industry and Public Health Authorities: WHO Fact Sheet N° 304 contradicts WHO’s own database. Norms are concepts. Epidemiological studies which have been peer-reviewed are based on real life. Where are the peer-reviewed studies that show phone masts are NOT a health concern ?
