What sort of world has this become when sincere and decent people are attacked simply because they want to raise awareness for our children?

Sir William Stewart has consistently advocated a precautionary approach both for our children and for the minority who are now electro hypersensitive.

The mobile phone operators and the Government chose to ignore this, which speaks volumes for those with children in schools surrounded by phone mast, or those with these masts on their doorsteps where the children live.

As Sir William has now given a warning about Wi-Fi then only those with vested interests are likely to attack in such a vicious way.

Geoffrey Lean and other staff of the IoS and Independent have backed Sir William and made parents aware that there could well be a problem, yet they are lambasted. Ingrid Dickenson and others are ridiculed mercilessly.

If this is what material greed does to our nation and the world then I am really concerned for the human race!

I have been electro hypersensitive for many years now and will remain so for life. I know from my own experiences what these technologies using pulsed microwave radiation can do, not only me, but to hundreds of other sufferers I have spoken to.

Therefore my concern is for children and animal life because they are far more vulnerable.

We who suffer are all decent and wholesom people, as are the people in the media and elsewhere who raise awareness for our children and animal life. They have moral and ethical standards where our children, wildlife and sufferers are concerned.

It seems obvious that greed degenerates humans who worship materialism above even human/animal life and health.

Can any of you really live with the guilt you may feel if our children/animal life are harmed? They say conscience grows stronger in time.

Dear Elizabeth,

For well over a year, I have been sending you regular e-mail updates about cancer and other health harm that is being caused by electro magnetic radiation. From the information that I have provided, you should be aware of cancer caused by cell phone antennas,and brain cancer from cell phones and from cordless phones. You should know that leukemia and other cancers are caused by electro magnetic fields from electrical power lines. In addition, damage to DNA, damage to cell structure, and changes in blood composition are caused by exposure to electro magnetic radiation. You will also know about harm to farm animals and families from ground current electricity and you have had personal knowledge about transformers and powerlines causing cancer among a great number of people in Newfoundland. You should also have learned that massive numbers of bees are dying, possibly because of electro magnetic radiation and that birds are disappearing from cities and, in particular, from areas that are close to strong sources of electro magnetic radiation. You should also be aware of various other health damage that is being caused by electro magnetic radiation.

From the information you have received, you should know that the World Health Organization has only been using scientific research that showed no harm to health while ignoring much research that did clearly indicate cancer and other health problems caused by electro magnetic pollution. You should also be aware that the person who was in charge of the WHO radiation branch was taking large amounts of improper expense money from industry sources and that he now works for industry and shows no concern for the health of mankind. You should know that Canada allows some of the most dangerous exposure levels in the world and that Health Canada and Industry Canada are providing false information to the public.

Despite all this information, I have not seen one report, statement, or press release from you or the Green Party to indicate that you have any concern about electro magnetic radiation. It seems ludicrous that an environmental party is ignoring what may be the worst environmental problem that Canada, and the world, has ever faced. There are even indications that the massive amount of electro magnetic energy that is being transmitted through the earth's atmosphere is adding significantly to global warming.

The message below that you sent to me, asks me to renew my membership to the Green Party. Unless you can convince me that you and the Green Party are going to make electro magnetic pollution a major part of your future campaign, I cannot in good conscience renew my membership. Instead, I am more likely to form a new national political party dedicated to bringing the dangers of EMR pollution to the public's attention. I originally joined the Green Party to give you support to become leader. I was aware that you had knowledge about the dangers of EMR and I expected you to use that knowledge to educate the public and make them safer. That has not occurred and I am very concerned as to why?

At this moment, the Canadian public faces great danger from electro magnetic radiation. Are you and the Green Party going to seriously address this crucial issue or not?

HOW TO DEVELOP CANCER

Last week I was asked to attend at a local health show and provide information about electrical and electro magnetic pollution.

With little time for preparation I wrote two documents for distribution. The first was of local interest and it detailed sources of EMR and dangerous antennas in the area of Woodstock Ontario. The second document, How To Develop Cancer, was written to get attention for the health dangers caused by electro magnetic radiation.

There are many leaflets and documents provided by health authorities and other organizations about cancer prevention, but that information has obviously failed to halt the spread of cancer, I decided to try a different angle.

Electro magnetic radiation and the scientific links to cancer has been missing from most cancer prevention information. I decided to make EMR the main focus of my document and instead of prevention, how to develop cancer. The instructions explain some of the common sources of EMR and ways that people may develop cancer and other illnesses through over-exposure.

This tactic both puzzled and caused some real interest in the subject, among visitors to the show. When I explained to them how the information can be reversed and how they could make themselves and their families safer, they showed a great interest. They either had stories of their own about being affected by EMR, or they had more questions.

I am circulating 'How You Can Develop Cancer', in case others would like to use the document for their own EMR awareness activities. I realize that some people may not like this approach but I am hoping that others will send ideas about how the document can be improved so that we can make it a more powerful message.

In the UK and at prime time on BBC1 their flagship serious documentary programme PANORAMA recently (May 21 8.30) raised the issue of health risks from information carrying radiowaves. More specifically it focused on WiFi being installed in schools where children are compulsorily exposed to levels far in excess of spending hours in the main beam of a transmitting mast.

Full acknowledgement was made that it was still well below the ICNIRP international, but industry set, guidelines, and the power levels required for thermal heating of the body with the known damage that causes. Unusually in this debate this programme went a further step and examined whether there was any cause for concern at these lower than thermal (the only safety) levels. Distinguished researchers and scientists from Austria (Oberfeld) Sweden (Johansson) and the USA (Lai) were wheeled on and though some admitted there was science illustrating both sides of the debate, all agreed there were serious effects already sufficiently well established to properly mean a proportionate precautionary response.

In Austria not only are masts banned from proximity to schools but the mini-masts, which is effectively what WiFi is, were banned from use inside schools as threatening children’s health. More damningly still, chief UK government scientific advisor on this issue, author of the MTHR safety report 2000 on mobile phones, and head of the UK Health Protection Agency Sir William Stewart, with a careful choice of words, judiciously considered it was "timely" for a delay in the rush for WiFi while investigations were made.

Future health possibilities were a major concern for him, for children have special vulnerabilities due to skull size and thickness, not fully formed immune systems and anticipating much higher life-long exposures due to starting earlier and spending much more time in more highly charged electrospheres than previous generations.

All in all this programme, only the tip of the iceberg of a blizzard of complaints and criticisms of variable scientific provenance, (such as anti-mast groups) deserves a measured and level-headed response worthy of the issue and the millions now tied up in the industry. It cannot be brushed aside, and especially not by the near hysterical OTT mouthings on blog spaces such as that of Badscience knocker Dr Ben Goldacre. Perusal of internet sites such as his and others with their alarming array of ranting and raving irrationality is guaranteed to send any neutrally objective observer into the arms of the ‘precautioners’. This Panorama programme is already arousing interest from US news organisations and must be met with a rational measured non-emotional response as it goes international.

Now is the time solid research should be brought forward for examination, in the past, the cellphone industry at least has claimed “there are thousands of studies” showing microwave technology is safe (see Dr George Carlo) but this was exposed as foolish wishful thinking and only damaged credibility. So without boastfulness, but as is now required, a responsible technology using industry concerned about legitimate questioning on safety grounds, at the very least a public relations and PR disaster potentially, must produce its evidence that there is no cause for concern.

As the support charity ES-UK for those who describe themselves as specially sensitive to the health effects of these wonderfully useful new communications we have no wish to make unjustified or unwarranted mere assertions about health risks. We would enjoy the opportunity to examine any science and present it for consideration by our sufferers. It might disabuse them of some of their beliefs and fears.

Further, we would welcome a more considered response to their ‘personal stories’ or case studies. When these are presented to supposedly scientific commentators, like the columnist mentioned above among others, they are ignored. This is distressing and painful, devaluing the individual's real life experience.

So often is the word ‘only’ inserted in front of ‘anecdotal’ evidence, sight is lost of the fact it is still evidence. It occupies a special place in scientific reasoning right at the commencement of an inquiry. First problems are raised, and questions become formulated out of these anomalous situations demanding explanation, and which won’t go away. It might be the genius of Newton asking “But why does the apple fall downwards?” or Maxwell pursuing where his mathematical questions were leading him and showing the modern possibilities for harnessing electromagnetism for human endeavours. It can also be Brian Stein with the personal experience of fourteen trouble-free years of mobile phone use before his world changed for ever. It ill behoves so-called scientific commentators like Goldacre to ignore this primary, first level of science, there are facts here to be reckoned with, put under their noses, no good scientist worthy of the name ignores any evidence, not properly first person anecdotal, nor when we have 400 cases, 50 published on our website. In Sweden their 400 'anecdotal' cases, also published on our site, as 'Black and White' inspired official recognition of EHS as a 'functional impairment'.

What has the industry to be afraid of? We are confident of its harmlessness say many in it, so now is the time for it to meet the questions raised by Panorama head on. Argue the science or suffer the consequences of a rising tide of health objectors while out marketing, plus the ignominy of recklessly endangering children's health.

FEARS that mobile phone masts can cause cancer and other health problems have been supported by new research, St Albans MP Anne Main has warned.

Since 2001, councils have not been allowed to reject planning applications for masts on health grounds, provided the radiation is within international safety guidelines.

But Mrs Main has asked the Government to change the rules, highlighting recent studies showing high levels of cancer, brain haemorrhages and high blood pressure for people living within of 400 yards of a mast.

She said: "Residents do have genuine health concerns about mast location and communities should have a greater say over where we place these masts.

"Put simply, we do not know for certain exactly how safe phone masts are.

"We all accept the need for mobile phones, but common sense indicates we should err on the side of caution, particularly with regards to people's health.

"We should always seek to locate masts in the least sensitive areas and vigorously encourage mast sharing.

"The minister has responded positively to my request to look into the matter."
