Declare Your Independence from Oil
My fellow Americans:
July 4th marks our nation's birthday and our annual celebration of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We barbecue, we attend parades, and we celebrate freedom and democracy. Today, however, our freedom is threatened by the tyranny of oil. With less than 5 percent of the world's population, we consume more than a quarter of the world's oil. Of the 20 million barrels a day we burn, nearly half of that is wasted in gas guzzling cars, trucks and SUVs. We're writing to ask you to stand up for our freedom and sign the Declaration of Independence from Oil!

American automakers are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to fuel economy. Of all automakers, Ford Motor Company's cars, trucks and SUVs waste the most gas. Ford's overall average fuel efficiency today is less than the Model T nearly a century ago! It's time to send a message to Ford Motor Company that Americans are demanding an end to the tyranny of oil!
Getting off oil is much more than just an environmental issue. 41% of all Americans live in areas that exceed federal health guidelines for clean air. Asthma has reached epidemic levels and is the leading cause of chronic illness among children. Over 1,700 of our sons and daughters have paid the ultimate price in Iraq, a war with no end in sight. Join the energy revolution at FreedomFromOil.com today!

Americans deserve better. American ingenuity has helped cure polio and put a man on the moon. We can once again be a symbol of justice, democracy and hope, but right now, we are spending billions of American tax dollars to buy oil from despots and dictators. America can do better. Our future as a nation depends on safe, secure and sustainable energy. Sign the declaration and help break our dependence on oil! Join the energy revolution today!

Together we can make a difference!
