AUSTRALIA (August 23, 2004) -- "A report in today's Fairfax newspapers claims Prime Minister John Howard was repeatedly warned that going to war in Iraq would inflame extremism and increase the risk of terrorist recruitment. Mr Howard was given the warnings verbally and in written reports according to unnamed intelligence sources quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald. The Prime Minister has repeatedly told Australians that the war in Iraq would not increase the threat of terrorism against Australia and in fact would diminish the threat."
