For our next MIRACLE in the stop Alito movement

Once again we achieved our overnight objective from the local district phone action. There are widespread reports of senators' phones ringing off the hook and fax machines running out of paper coast to coast. And YOU did it. We are witnessing the greatest outpouring of public opinion ever, being described as "astonishing," in support of the people's Alito filibuster. The hunger for policy change grows daily, and people want to know what more we can do. There is TONS more we can do, and these are our next moves:

It is critical that we open up multiple collateral fronts, while at the same time repeating the cultural phenomenon witnessed in the last 24 hours on an even LARGER scale. There are two NEW action pages below which will send your personal messages in real time to your senators' internet gateways. We will still keep the phone and fax pressure on, but with these gateways we can deliver an UNLIMITED number of messages! This will multiply your chances to voice your opposition and layer those messages. Please submit both these new action pages and forward this alert to everyone else you know.

FIRST COLLATERAL ACTION: Anticipate and beat back any nuclear option move

http://www.millionphonemarch.com/nuke_option.php

In the back of the minds of our senators, the essential cowardice we must confront is their fear of exercising power generally, and in particular of the Republican so-called nuclear option. They are not afraid of losing a filibuster vote as much as they are afraid of WINNING, for only then would the threat of a nuclear option come into play. With the exercise of power comes responsibility, and above all that is what they must now do, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.

In fact the nuclear option is a win-win situation for us. If the Republicans abuse the Senate rules and have enough sanity to fall short, we win outright. If they are misfortunate enough to break the rules, they will be punished by their constituents for not playing fair AND will have no way to stop US from undoing all their damage when we take back the Congress in 2006. Either way we demonstrate that Democrats WILL fight ferociously for what they believe in, ensuring prospects for success in 2006.

The action page above is a voting page which poses the question if it would be fair for the Republicans to pull some nuclear stunt. We need to tell BOTH Democrats AND Republicans how angry we would be at such a move. This will embolden our own and give enormous pause to the other side. It must be done for us to win.

SECOND COLLATERAL ACTION: Pressure Harry Reid to Either Lead or Step Aside

http://www.millionphonemarch.com/reid.php

There have been multiple calls in the progressive internet for Harry Reid to step down, notably from Buzzflash.com. The issue is not whether he should remain a senator from Nevada. Indeed his declared INDIVIDUAL support for the filibuster earns him that. But the role of a leader is not to take his hand off the rudder and walk away. And it is not acceptable for a coach to declare to the media and his team that they are going to lose in the middle of the third quarter.

Even if there were a couple senators who HAD to oppose the filibuster, and that is increasingly doubtful in the face of the public outpouring now taking place, what a LEADER would do is designate a couple byes and still lock in at least 41 certain votes. He would twist arms or promise favors to arrive at that result. If Reid can't or won't do the job he MUST be replaced with someone who can. But there may be reasonable differences of opinion, so again, we have made the above action page a voting page where you can vote either way, and add whatever personal comments you like.

The important thing is for Reid to feel the heat and the pressure to perform, and the question we pose simply asks if he is providing enough leadership. The side effect of pressuring him is that OTHER senators will better internalize that their own jobs are on the line if they fail the people this time, in particular from primary challenges. The bottom line is we need to have someone, hopefully Reid himself, to step up and take charge, whoever has the leadership to do so.

KEEP UP WITH THE LOCAL PHONES AND FAXES

The fact that senators are already aware of full answering machines and fax machines out of paper means perhaps that some might be cleared overnight, so that you can get through there again too. So once again, here are the LOCAL phone and fax numbers for your own senators for the state of the original recipient of this message.

If this message is forwarded to you and you are in another state, you can instantly look up your own senators' numbers with the one click function at

http://www.nocrony.com

Our message to our senators is simple. Your vote to support a filibuster will NOT cost you an election. Any other vote absolutely will. Respect the will of the people and you will have the most mobilized and committed activists in the country to contribute and work tirelessly for your behalf. Oppose the will of the people and we will raise challengers to you in your own primaries and contribute every dime we have to them to defeat you, and failing that we will look to find ANY other candidate in the general election to support. Listen to the people or your political career will be the REAL done deal. EMPHASIZE that you are a constituent (IF you are) and provide contact information to prove it.

If you are looking to do even MORE, here is the master list of ALL phone and fax numbers for ALL senators, with annotations about which are the most critical swing votes.

http://www.nocrony.com/master_senate_phones.txt

If you are calling senators in other states, be candid that you are not a direct constituent. But the message is the same, if you stand with the party on this one we will go out of our way to help you. Otherwise we will flood your state with money and labor to support ANY candidate who runs against you until the end of time.

It is wonderful if you want to make massive numbers of phone calls yourself. But you can IMMENSELY amplify your effectiveness by FIRST forwarding this message to absolutely every other person you know so that they can be similarly mobilized. It is not just the sheer volume of messages, even more critical is the number of DIFFERENT people speaking out at once.

Let us be able to look back and say we did everything we could have done to win this victory in spite of the corrupt media pundits who are working overtime to tell us what we cannot do. We are proving them wrong day by day.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.

Is There a Tumor Risk Following Long-Term Cell Phone Use?

http://at-de.i-newswire.com/pr15211.html
http://openpr.com/news/4014

On Friday afternoon, the American Journal of Epidemiology posted the results of the German Interphone study on its Web site. They point to a brain tumor risk after ten years of cell phone use.

This finding is based on a small number of cases and is not statistically significant.

But, when you put these results in the context of some of the other Interphone papers as well as the work of Lennart Hardell and Kjell Hansson Mild, we find it hard to shake the suspicion that there may indeed be a tumor risk associated with long-term use of mobile phones.

We have put it all together and we encourage you to check out our commentary: "Is There a Ten-Year Latency for Cell Phone Tumor Development?" at:

Mobile Telephony Lunacy: Victims Report

Whilst politicians ignore the dangers of mobile telephony, the number of victims is increasing. Karl Trischberger suffers himself from the effects of the harmful radiation. He explains here the latest findings of the health effects and allows victims to speak for themselves for the first time. What those sensitive people are already noticing today may well cause stress for us tomorrow.

Atomkrieg gegen Iran: das Zündeln geht weiter

http://www.sueddeutsche.de/,tt5m2/ausland/artikel/133/69064/

ANGER AS O2 FAILS TO MEET CONDITIONS FOR MAST

BY COLETTE WARBROOK
Bath Chronicle

11:00 - 27 January 2006

Council officers have been given the power to take down new antennae on a phone mast. Mobile phone giant O2 (UK) was given permission a year ago to install two extra antennae on the mast at Stirtingale playing fields, in Corston View.

But approval was only given on a series of conditions, which said that the company had to submit plans for landscaping works and carry out an approved scheme before any part of the development was installed.

However, the antennae, along with equipment cabinets, have been installed, but there is no sign of landscape work, a meeting of the Bath South Local Committee heard this week.

A scheme has been submitted and approved, but no work has been carried out, it was revealed at the meeting.

The committee voted to give the council the power to carry out enforcement, but there are expected to be further negotiations between the authority and O2, with enforcement being a last resort.

"We are sick to death of phone companies just ignoring planning, or doing what they want because they feel they can get away with it," said Cllr Steve Hedges (Lib Dem, Odd Down).

"If it had not been for residents in Odd Down, we would not have been aware that they were doing what they were doing.

"They had to have the landscaping part in first, but they put the stuff up before doing the landscaping."

Cllr Hedges said the committee agreed to give Bath and North East Somerset Council officers the power to take enforcement, and they were also asked to investigate the possibility of a covenant being put in place to protect the land.

"We think the land might be protected," said Cllr Hedges.

"But it is only a big 'might' at the moment.

"We called for an update report on this site, so we can find out what the officers have done in respect of this enforcement issue, and to find out a bit more about what is going on with this site."

O2 has pledged to carry out the landscaping work as soon as possible, but no work has taken place in recent weeks.

"Who carries out landscaping work at this time of year?" said an O2 spokesman.

"It will get done. We are just waiting for the weather to improve.

"Taking enforcement action is a big step, and that would be a bit over the top."

Glioma Brain Tumors

http://omega.twoday.net/search?q=Glioma

Mobiles 'don't raise cancer risk'?

Story from BBC NEWS:
Published: 2006/01/20 08:30:06 GMT

Mobile phone use does not lead to a greater risk of brain tumour, the largest study on the issue has said.

The study of 2,782 people across the UK found no link between the risk of glioma - the most common type of brain tumour - and length of mobile use.

Among cancer sufferers the tumours were more likely to be reported on the side of the head where they held the phone.

But the British Medical Journal study said people over-reported phone use on the side their cancer developed.
The research, which was carried out by the British arm of an international project called Interphone, reiterates the findings of most earlier studies in saying that there is no connection between cancer and mobile phone use.

These results are reassuring for everyone with a mobile
Dr Kat Arney
Cancer Research UK

The team of researchers, involving scientists from Leeds University, the Institute of Cancer Research and the University of Nottingham, spoke to 966 people diagnosed with glioma and 1,716 without the condition in five areas of the UK.

All 2,783 were interviewed about their history of mobile phone use over the previous 10 years.

They were asked to recall in detail how much they used their mobile phones, how often they used hands-free kits and what types of phones they had used.

'Biased reporting'

Research author Professor Patricia McKinney, Professor of Paediatric Epidemiology at the Leeds University, said: "For regular mobile phone users, there was no increased risk of developing a glioma associated with mobile phone use."

She acknowledged that there appeared to be an increased risk among brain cancer sufferers on the side of the head where they held the phone.

MOBILE PHONE FACTS
Available in the UK since 1985
Widely used since late 1990s

Now estimated to be owned by more than 40m Britons, including many children

Most studies have found no raised risk of brain tumour
But long-term effects still not known
Children still advised to use mobiles only when necessary

The team, however, did not put this down to a causal link, because almost exactly the same decreased risk was seen on the other side of the head, leaving no overall increase risk of tumours for mobile phone users.

Instead, they blamed biased reporting from brain tumour sufferers who knew what side of the head their tumours were

Another research team member, Professor Anthony Swerdlow of the Institute of Cancer Research, said: "It would be very misleading to the public to say that because there was a positive that this (mobile phones) causes brain tumours."

He explained: "If we had found a raised risk overall and it was all coming from one side, I would believe there was a real case.

"But as there is a drop on the opposing side - the overall risk is not raised.

"That makes it rather unlikely that there is a raised risk."

But he added that epidemiological studies could never show there was no risk of an activity, they could only suggest there was no raised risk.

'Growing evidence'

The Health Protection Agency said the research was good news, but that it did not give mobile phones a clean bill of health.

The board said it would not be changing its advice that children should not make unnecessary mobile phone calls.

Dr Kat Arney, science information officer at Cancer Research UK, said research such as this was vital for getting to the environmental causes of cancer.

"This is the biggest and most thorough study into mobile phones and glioma so far, and it adds to the growing evidence that there is no link.

"Although we still don't know about the very long-term effects of phone use, these results are reassuring for everyone with a mobile."

Further research

Wendy Fulcher, who founded ther Brain Tumour Research Campaign, said she hoped people would be finally reassured by the results of the research.

She added: "In relation to other cancers, brain tumours are the poor relation when it comes to research funding.

"There should be more money focused on the root causes of brain tumours."

Alasdair Philips, director of campaign group Powerwatch, says the study "doesn't really prove anything".

"I think they should have waited another couple of years and recruited more people with brain tumours so they could have interviewed them, because the trouble was they went back a few years and the people had died.

"If you get a grade four glioma you can die within a year or 18 months of it being diagnosed, and these people are just gone, so they couldn't get their mobile phone history."

Subject: Questions needed to quiz Mike Dolan Head of MOA on Tuesday

Sent your questions for Mike Dolan, Head of the Mobile Operators Association before Tuesday 31st January to reporter Andy Walker, see enclosed news article for contact details.

We quiz phone mast boss Jan 27 2006

THE Solihull News is to take your concerns over mobile phone masts straight to the top.

Mike Dolan is an executive director of Mobile Operators Association (MOA), an organisation which represents five UK networks, 3, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone and he's agreed to speak to us about your worries.

We want you to send any questions for Mr Dolan to our reporter Andy Walker.

Send them by Tuesday (January 31) morning to our offices at 150 High Street, Solihull, B91 3SX or e-mail: andy_walker@ mrn.co.uk. Alternatively you can phone them through to 0121 711 5731.

Our initiative comes as telecommunication operators submitted their roll out plans for the coming years.

Hampton-in-Arden, Olton, Balsall Common and Hillfield are all on a list of areas being targeted by mobile phone giants.

T-Mobile are the worst culprits with 29 sites built, five sites with permission and a further 18 proposed sites. Orange are close behind with 47 sites built, 14 sites with permission and eight proposed sites.

The document was revealed at a Planning and Regulatory Committee meeting on January 19, prompting Solihull Council's head of planning, Paul Watson, to remark that it was time to meet the people behind these applications and 'see the whites of their eyes'.

However there was good news for Monkspath residents after plans to site a mast close to the Fieldhouse pub were withdrawn.

Lunar New Year: French animal lovers howl at Chinese dog slaughter

Fri Jan 27, 1:28 PM ET

France's Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) appealed to Chinese President Hu Jintao to put an end to the cruel slaughter of dogs, which it blasted as an affront.

"The SPA does not set itself up as a judge of a country and its culture, but is asking for animals to be killed in a dignified way," the SPA said.

"Millions of dogs (in China) are hanged, beaten with sticks and butchered while they are still alive," it said in a press release.

The organisation added that it had tried to get French media to accept an advertisement as part of its campaign against dog butchering, but the picture -- of an animal being cut to pieces in a pool of blood -- was so graphic that it had been rejected by every newspaper.

The upcoming Chinese New Year on Sunday ushers in the Year of the Dog.

Up to 10 million dogs are slaughtered every year in China, many killed slowly and cruelly to supposedly enhance the meat's flavour, according to animal rights groups.
