Stop the further deployment of British troops in Iraq
The House of Commons switchboard was today inundated with phone calls from anti war campaigners. In a campaign to stop the further deployment of British troops in Iraq, Stop the War Coalition organised thousands of UK voters to call up their MPs and demand that the British Government withdraw troops immediately.
Speaking on the huge success of the campaign today Lindsey German the Convenor of STW said, ‘ In less than five hours today, the House of Commons has been inundated with telephone calls from people demanding of their MPs that the troops be withdrawn. Over 70% of the people in the UK want troops to be withdrawn, and the MP’s are just getting a fraction of the anger that is felt by the people of this country. The sooner Tony Blair and his New Labour Government realise the level of opposition to his policy of keeping the troops in Iraq the sooner lives of ordinary Iraqis and British service personnel will be saved.’
