Now is the time for building a mainstream antiwar movement. Having failed to stop the war before it started through massive worldwide protests, the antiwar movement needs to look for tools that will appeal to and educate mainstream Americans while demanding that Members of Congress go on record as to whether or not they will uphold their Constitutional responsibilities over the nation’s foreign policy Although they may disagree on an array of other issues, Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, and independents, not to mention those who typically do not closely follow politics, can and must be integrated into a movement that bases itself on a non-threatening, antiwar message that reinforces what is best about the United States rather than focusing on its shortcomings. As I see it, the biggest single problem facing the nation is the fact that nearly all foreign policymaking power is now held by the executive branch...

Everybody's blaming Rocco, but how in the name of all that's holy does the product of an amateurish scam supposedly masterminded by a has-been-ex-spook get finagled into the White House? The FBI 'investigation,' which seems more like a cover-up, was ended, we are told, when the investigators concluded the whole thing was just a for-profit scheme, 'not an attempt to influence U.S. policy.' Let's see: a document shows up in the nick of time to buttress the administration's case that Saddam was building nukes -- at the very moment when Congress was considering this issue -- and it's all just a great big coincidence. We are supposed to believe that a couple of Italian grifters staged a robbery at the Niger embassy in Rome, cut-and-pasted a 'dossier' of fake evidence that Saddam was purchasing uranium from Niamey, and, a couple of years later, the president of the United States suddenly started spouting the same nonsensical claims. There's a transition missing here, one that explains how two Italian scam artists out to make a fast buck managed to bamboozle not only the White House but the various agencies that vet the intelligence that winds up on Bush's desk...

Die Atomexpertin der Umweltorganisation BUND, Renate Backhaus, sagte in Lüneburg, knapp 20 Jahre nach der Reaktorkatastrophe von Tschernobyl "scheinen die verheerenden Folgen der Atomkraft keine Rolle mehr zu spielen". Es würden wieder Profitinteressen über die Gesundheitsinteressen der Bevölkerung gestellt. "Lobbyisten der Atomkraft sei es ins Stammbuch geschrieben: Nur ein abgeschaltetes Atomkraftwerk ist ein sicheres Atomkraftwerk", so Backhaus.

Mit einem Sternmarsch haben am Samstag in Berlin mehrere tausend Menschen gegen weiteren Sozialabbau protestiert. Auf Transparenten, in Sprechchören und vom Lautsprecherwagen forderten sie die Abschaffung von Hartz IV, Arbeitszeitverkürzung (30-Stundenwoche) bei vollem Lohnausgleich und ein Ende der Umverteilung von unten nach oben. Weiterhin wurde ein Ausstieg aus der Atomenergie und der Abzug der deutschen Truppen aus dem Ausland, speziell aus Afghanistan, gefordert. In Reden hieß es, dass die wahren "Parasiten" und "Sozialschmarotzer" nicht bei den Ärmsten der Armen, sondern in den Chefetagen der Firmen und unter den Politikern zu finden seien.

Die vom designierten Vizekanzler Franz Müntefering erhobene Kritik an den Praktiken ausländischer Beteiligungsgesellschaften bei deutschen Firmen soll keine praktischen Folgen für die Politik der großen Koalition haben. Es gebe keine Pläne, denen von Müntefering als "Heuschrecken" bezeichneten Firmen etwas entgegenzusetzen, berichtet der "Tagesspiegel am Sonntag" unter Berufung auf Abgeordnete von Union und SPD, die an den Verhandlungen in den Koalitions-Arbeitsgruppen Finanzen und Wirtschaft beteiligt waren. Die SPD habe zum Erstaunen der CDU-Seite von vorneherein auf ein zentrales Instrument verzichtet, um das Wirken der Private-Equity-Gesellschaften zu begrenzen: die Wiedereinführung von Steuern auf die Gewinne beim Verkauf von Unternehmensanteilen.

Die Menschenrechtsorganisation amnesty international (ai) hat am Montag einen weiteren Bericht vorgelegt, der den USA das "Verschwindenlassen" von Gefangenen vorwirft. Berichte ehemaliger jemenitischer Gefangener bestätigten, dass der US-Geheimdienst CIA Verdächtige an Orten auf der ganzen Welt "verschwinden" lasse, so die Menschenrechtler. Der aktuelle ai-Bericht beschreibt die Erfahrungen des Jemeniten Muhammad al-Assad, der nach ai-Angaben seit 25 Jahren in Tansania lebte. Sicherheitskräfte des Landes hätten ihn im Dezember 2003 festgenommen und an US-Amerikaner übergeben, die vermutlich Mitarbeiter des US-Geheimdienstes CIA gewesen seien. Über 16 Monate habe al-Assads Familie nichts über sein Schicksal erfahren. "Der Fall von Muhammad al-Assad zeigt eindrücklich, dass die USA in ihrem so genannten Krieg gegen den Terror systematisch die Menschenrechte verletzen", sagte Ferdinand Muggenthaler, Amerika-Experte bei ai. Er forderte die USA auf, alle geheimen Haftorte offenzulegen und die Gefangenen entweder freilassen oder in einem fairen Verfahren anzuklagen. Erst letzte Woche hatte die "Washington Post" berichtet, die CIA betreibe geheime Gefängnisse unter anderem in osteuropäischen Staaten.

WHO WOULD JESUS STARVE?

With a national budget hemorrhaging red ink, even the profligate pork barrel princes in Congress had to do something. And what is their solution? Will they trim back even modestly any of the gratuitous tax cuts gifted to the most wealthy and the most fortunate? No, they propose to cut the last ropes of what remains of the social safety net for those hurt most by their "soak the masses and give it all to the corporate kingpins" policies, apparently to pave the way for even MORE reckless tax injustice.

When a right wing think tanker said he wanted to shrink the government down to where it could be drown in a bathtub, he was talking about the social services that are the only thing that keep the burgeoning class of the abjectly poor going. Perhaps the former residents of New Orleans experienced exactly what he meant by drowning, as FEMA had been degenerated into a dispenser of Christmas plums for administration cronies only. The only thing he wanted to shrink was that part of government that does NOT serve the most powerful corporate interests. For the rest it's still unlimited, no-bid, cost plus party time.

Yes, for those whose agenda is war profiteering, or bankrupting families with blockbuster medical bills, or gouging the public with usurious interest charges and fees, or pocketing unneeded subsidies while they collect windfall profits for environmentally hostile sources of energy, or absolving corporations of any social responsibility whatsoever . . . for them it's supply side as far as the eye can see. And the primarily Republican members of Congress they own lock stock and beholden barrel have no shame in continuing to push though special interest legislation written word for word by the corporate lobbyists themselves, to the detriment of every other pressing national policy need.

This groaning chuck wagon of cruel greed will be ringing the bell once again in the House of Representative this coming week. And if the failure of the Senate last week to stand up and protect the most weak and needy wasn't bad enough, the House version of the budget bill proposes even MORE cuts for essential and indispensable lifeline services. They want to cut to the bone Medicare, Medical, food stamps, student loans, pension protection, Supplemental Social Security . . . the massacre list goes on and on.

It has been called "immoral" by voices representing a wide ranging spectrum of the religious community. For example, all 65 synod bishops of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America have signed a letter to members of Congress in strong protest opposing the proposed budget cuts. But what of you conscientious reader? What are you doing to speak out about this uncompassionate cruelty, so cold of heart that it would chill any but the most unrepentant Scrooges among this administration's cronies?

For those who profess to be Christians, is it not written in your bible?

"I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me." (Matthew 25:43-45)

And yet here we have a bill which will take AWAY food from the hungry, rob medicine from the sick, and steal clothing intended for those who are already naked. What would your Lord say should be the judgement for those who do such things? Perhaps you already know the next verse. What do you have to say about all this? Words of true compassion can be found in all faiths. Send a message to Congress and tell them to get their priorities straight.

Is if that were not enough, they have also stuffed another giant giveaway to the oil companies into the budget bill in the form of violation of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Even IF there were not any direct environmental damage from drilling another one of our precious environmental resources up like Swiss cheese, the real harm will come in the acceleration of global warming from our crack addict dependence on oil as fuel. Unless we reverse the explosion of CO2 levels in the atmosphere, this last hurricane season may turn out to be one of the relatively mild ones of the coming decades.

What we REALLY need to do to bring down energy costs is end the illegal self-defeating occupation of Iraq, which is the PRIMARY cause of the political instability in the Middle East which has so exacerbated oil prices. And then we need a crash program to develop renewable biofuel resources and then they can swim in their oil if they want to. We need dramatic policy change and we need it now, or else as Louis XV used to say (or maybe it was Noah), "After me, the deluge."

To his credit on at least one measure, John McCain has sworn that unless his amendment (passed 90-9 in the Senate) to ban torture is included intact in the new defense bill he will add it to every subsequent Senate bill from now on. The ban is against "cruel" punishment among other things. It is time that we renounce the voices of cruelty in all other areas of our government as well. This shameful budget bill must not pass without major revision. It is time for people who are NOT cruel to speak out against those who are. Your members of the house of Representatives are all up for election next year. It would not hurt to remind them of that.

Please take action NOW, so we can win all victories that are supposed to be ours, and forward this message to everyone else you know.

Zu den Plänen der SPD, beim Kündigungsschutz den Vorgaben der Union weitgehend zu folgen, erklärt der gewerkschaftspolitische Sprecher des Parteivorstandes Harald Werner:

Beim Koalitionspoker zwischen Union und SPD wollen die Sozialdemokraten beim Thema Kündigungsschutz jetzt offenbar auch die erkämpften Rechte von Arbeitnehmerinnen und Arbeitnehmern aufgeben. Das Optionsmodell der Union ist für die SPD ebenso machbar, wie eine weitere Einschränkung des bestehenden Kündigungsschutzes. Wobei das Optionsmodell noch weiter geht und den Rechtsgrundsatz der Allgemeingültigkeit beseitigt. Denn, welcher Arbeitslose wird bei einem Stellenangebot schon den Mut haben, auf seinen Kündigungsschutz zu pochen? Das Bedürfnis der Arbeitgeber nach einem beliebigen Heuern und Feuern erhöht die Erpressbarkeit der Beschäftigten, senkt aber erfahrungsgemäß nicht die Arbeitslosenzahlen. Was sich erhöhen wird, ist ausschließlich die Fluktuation in den Betrieben und das Beschäftigungsrisiko. Die Linkspartei.PDS setzt sich dagegen für eine Stärkung der Rechte der Beschäftigten, wie mehr betriebliche Mitbestimmung, ein und setzt auf eine Ausweitung der öffentlichen und privaten Nachfrage, weil Arbeitslosigkeit keine Folge von Arbeitnehmerrechten ist, sondern ein Ereignis der seit Jahren sinkenden Ausgaben von öffentlichen und privaten Haushalten.

Eine veränderte deutsche und europäische Politik gegenüber Lateinamerika fordert der außenpolitische Sprecher des Bundesvorstandes Wolfgang Gehrcke (MdB). Er erklärt:

Erstmals hat sich ein US-Präsident auf einem Lateinamerika-Gipfel komplett nicht durchsetzen können. US-Präsident Bush musste mit seinem Vorschlag für eine Freihandelszone des Kontinents (ALCA) unverrichteter Dinge abreisen. Die Mitte-Links-Regierungen in verschiedenen lateinamerikanischen Ländern gehen gestärkt aus dieser Debatte hervor. Der ursprünglich bis Mitte der 90er Jahre in Lateinamerika positiv aufgenommene Gedanke des Freihandels hat in den letzten Jahren in der Region an Anziehungskraft verloren. Die Erwartungen an Reformen haben sich nicht erfüllt und werden von den zivilgesellschaftlichen Organisationen abgelehnt. Die von den USA angestrebte Freihandelszone bedeutet eine klare Dominanz der USA über Lateinamerika und bringt den Menschen Nachteile und eine Verschlechterung ihrer Lebensbedingungen. Statt der US-dominierten Freihandelszone bevorzugen die Staaten Brasilien, Argentinien, Uruguay und Venezuela die Errichtung einer Südamerikanischen Union, die mehr als bloße Freihandelszone ist und die eigenen Kräfte und Ressourcen sowie das eigene Industriepotenzial für die Entwicklung mobilisieren soll. Dieses Anliegen sollte Deutschland und die EU unterstützen. Die deutsche und europäische Politik sollte mit allen südamerikanischen Staaten, insbesondere mit den Mercosur-Staaten, eine Partnerschaft auf gleichberechtigter Grundlage befördern. Ein Partnerschaftsabkommen Mercosur EU wäre sinnvoll, weil es Ungleichheit und Ungerechtigkeit in der Entwicklung überwinden helfen und nachhaltig die Armut auf dem Kontinent bekämpfen könnte. Die Linkspartei.PDS unterhält seit Jahren gute Beziehungen zur lateinamerikanischen Linken. Die Bundestagsfraktion wird diese parlamentarisch vertiefen. Eine Zusammenarbeit mit der Linken in den Mercosur-Staaten und eine enge Kooperation der Linken in Europa und Lateinamerika stehen auf der Tagesordnung der internationalen Arbeit der Bundestagsfraktion der Linken.

Energie, die in Millionen von Jahren entstanden ist, innerhalb von wenigen Jahren zu verbrennen, damit die Atmosphäre zu vergiften, und somit weltweit für Klimaveränderungen, Hunger, Trockenheit, Überschwemmungen, Katastrophen und Krankheit zu sorgen, oder endlich die Landwirtschaft zu renovieren, die Produkte ehrlich und fair handeln und selbstverständlich auch für die Energiegewinnung zu verwenden?

Pervers ist, dass hier täglich Millionen Menschen Diesel und Benzin verfahren, Kerosin verfliegen und noch immer fossil heizen! Pervers ist Landstriche, Lebensräume und Geschichte für Braunkohle weg zu baggern. Pervers ist für Ölsand Landstriche zu vernichten.

Pervers ist, dass konservative Politiker, dies auch noch unterstützen, entgegen jeder natürlichen Vernunft und bewahrenden Einstellung.

Pervers ist, dass seit Jahrzehnten für Öl Kinder in Kriegszeiten aufwachsen müssen, und ganze Länder verwüstet werden, Ländereien mit giftigen Rohölen verseucht werden, im Interesse der Multis, von Shell, Exxon über Elf, Total und BP und ihren Öl motivierten Schlachten, nur für unseren schnellen Konsum!

Pervers ist, dass Biomasse nicht vollständig verwertet wird, sondern noch immer als minderwertiger Energieträger verleumdet wird! Pervers ist, noch immer Urwälder abzuholzen, für Produkte die nach weniger als 6 Monaten Müll sind und verbrannt werden.

Alle fossilen Vorräte sind begrenzt, nicht nur Öl, Gas sondern insbesondere auch das Uran für die AKWs!

Wirtschaftlich reicht das noch wenige Dutzend Jahre, und dann?

Und das alles völlig unabhängig von den Klimadiskussionen, Ökosteuern,... das Öl (Gas, Uran) geht zu neige!

Weizen, Mais und Biomasse wächst jährlich zu 100% nach, die Sonne stellt keine Rechnung und die Hungerproblematik ist kein Erzeugungsproblem sondern ein Verteilungsproblem, das z.T. bewusst aufrecht erhalten wird, um sich gegenüber den Schwellenländern wirtschaftliche Vorteile zu sichern, z.B. die Ausbeutung der dortigen Rohstoffe!

A growing number of Republican leaders, party strategists and political professional now privately tell President George W. Bush that his presidency "is effectively over" unless he fires embattled White House advisor Karl Rove, apologizes to the American people for misleading the country into war and revamps his administration from top to bottom.

"The only show of unity we have now in the Republican Party is the belief that the President has failed the party, the American people and the presidency," says a longtime, and angry, GOP strategist.

With the public face of support for Bush eroding daily from even diehard Republicans, the President faces mounting anger from within his party over the path that may well lead to loss of control of Congress in the 2006 midterm elections and the White House in 2008.

"This presidency is in trouble," says a senior White House aide. "Even worse, I don't know if there is a way out of the trouble."

Congressional leaders journeyed to the White House before Bush left on his South American tour this week to tell the President that his legislative agenda on the Hill is dead, his latest Supreme Court nominee faces a tough confirmation fight in the Senate and he is facing open revolt within party ranks.

"The Speaker is having an increasingly difficult time holding his troops in line," says a source within the office of House Speaker Dennis J. Hastert.

"Anger at the President grows exponentially with each passing day."

At a recent White House strategy session, internal party pollsters told the President that his approval rating with Americans continues to slide and may be irreversible, citing his failed Iraq war, the failed Supreme Court nomination of Harriet Miers and his failure to deal decisively on a number of fronts, including Hurricane Katrina, the economy and the Valerie Plame scandal.

In meetings, leaders and strategists have suggested a number of things that Bush must do to try and save his presidency and GOP prospects in upcoming elections, including:

* Apologize to the American people, Congress and our allies for misleading them on the reasons for invading Iraq;

* Revamp the White House staff from top to bottom;

* Fire Rove.

"We keep coming back to Rove," says a GOP pollster. "He has escaped indictment, so far, but the feeling within the party is that another shoe is ready to drop and the longer he waits to jettison Rove the greater the damage.

As long as Karl Rove remains at the President's side, the Bush presidency is effectively over and he is just riding out the days until the nation elects a Democrat to replace him.

Even with Rove gone the damage may be irreparable."

Bush, however, has dug his heels in on Rove. When a GOP strategist suggested last weekend that the President fire Rove, Bush exploded.

"You go to hell," he screamed at the strategist. "You can leave and you can take the rest of these lily-livered motherfuckers with you!"

The President then stormed out of the room and refused to meet further with any other party leaders or strategists.

Bush's escalating temper tantrums and his intransigence on political issues increase Republican worries about the long term effects on both his presidency and the party's prospects in upcoming elections.

"Right now, George W. Bush is the Republican Party's chief liability," says a GOP strategist who has advised Presidential campaigns for 30 years.

"The entire political future of the party and perhaps the nation now rests on the shoulders of a President that no one - Democrat or Republican - believes in or trusts."

I brought up the subject of male fertility and prostate cancer with the our local Director of Public Health at a meeting last year. I drew his attention to the fact that most men carry the mobile phones in their trouser pockets and that metal zips would increase the level of emissions in a crucial area.

Wenig und kurz telefonieren Die Idee zum Handyverbot in sensiblen Zonen kommt von der Wiener Ärztekammer.

Auf Plakaten werden zehn medizinische Regeln für einen vorsichtigen Umgang mit Mobiltelefonen vorgeschlagen.

Kein Handy für Leute unter 16 Unter anderem soll wenig und kurz telefoniert werden. Das Handy soll während des Gesprächsaufbaus vom Körper ferngehalten werden.

Jugendliche unter 16 Jahre sollten gar nicht mit dieser Technologie telefonieren, um die Hirnreifung durch die Strahlung nicht zu stören, so die Botschaft der Wiener Ärztekammer.

Die Wiener Ärztekammer startet demnächst mit einer Aufklärungskampagne zu drohenden gesundheitlichen Gefahren durch häufiges und unkontrolliertes Telefonieren mit dem Handy.

Auf Plakaten, die in Spitälern und Ärztepraxen angebracht werden, wird zu einem um- und vorsichtigen Gebrauch von Mobiltelefonen aufgerufen.

Zehn Handyregeln aus medizinischer Vorsorge wurden formuliert. So sollen Handys während des Gesprächaufbaus vom Kopf ferngehalten werden, beim Versenden von SMS soll das Minitelefon so weit wie möglich vom Körper weggehalten werden. In Fahrzeugen wie Auto, Bus und Bahn soll gar nicht telefoniert werden, die Strahlung ist höher. Jugendliche im Alter unter 16 Jahren sollten gar nicht telefonieren. Der Salzburger Bürgerlisten-Gemeinderat und Gesundheitssprecher Bernhard Carl fordert die Salzburger MedizinerInnen nun dazu auf, die Aktion zu übernehmen. „Handys in Ärztepraxen und Ambulanzen sollten geächtet werden. Abgesehen davon, dass das Klingeln und laute Telefonieren stört, können Kranke besonders sensibel reagieren. Man sitzt ja oft stundenlang und ist hoher Strahlungsdichte ausgesetzt“, so Carl.

Die Bürgerinitiativen zum Schutz vor Mobilfunk in Salzburg werden demnächst auch einen speziellen Eltern-Ratgeber zur Benützung der Handys für Kinder und Jugendliche herausgeben.

But the war on terror has distorted our national values. We have used some of the same tactics we once decried. The Soviet Union's legacy of terror lives on, its tactics embraced by some of our leaders. Vice President Dick Cheney continues to insist that the McCain amendment, which prohibits U.S. personnel from cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment of prisoners, should not be applicable to the CIA. Somewhere in Moscow's Novodevichyi cemetery, Khrushchev is probably laughing inside his grave...

Abstract: We study the influence of an external electromagnetic field (EMF) of 1.8 GHz in the formation or disaggregation of long rouleau of identical erythrocyte cells. In particular we calculate the variation of the transmembrane potential of an individual erythrocyte illuminated by the external field due to the presence of the neighbouring erythrocytes in the rouleau, and compare the total electric energy of isolated cells with the total electric energy of the rouleau. We show that the polarization of the external electromagnetic field plays a fundamental role in the total energy variation of the cell system, and consequently in the formation or disaggregation of rouleau.

From the abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible effects of in vivo 1800 MHz GSM-like exposure on male reproduction. The results indicate that the applied GSM-like microwave exposure may induce slight, but statistically significant alterations in some haematological and endocrine parameters of male mice within the physiological range. Further investigations are required to establish the biological significance of these phenomena.

Bush, have done to the American people the past five years. First, there is the USA PATRIOT Act, which twisted and shredded the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth amendments to the Constitution. Those amendments once guaranteed the rights of freedom of speech, press, assembly, and religion, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances; freedom from unreasonable searches; due process and the right against self-incrimination; the right to counsel, a speedy trial, and the right to a fair and public trial by an impartial jury; reasonable bail and freedom from cruel and unusual punishment; and an equal protection guarantee for both citizens and non-citizens...

Saddened and angry though we may be by the deaths of over 2,000 U.S. military personnel, we need to look at this milestone in context. As much as the Pentagon would just as soon not own up to losing 2,000 of its boots on the ground, it beats the heck out of having to own up to the real loses. Because what that number does not include is the more than 15,000 who have been wounded. It doesn't count the many more who are coming home with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and health problems due to exposure to our own chemical weaponry. And it certainly doesn't include the tens if not hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who have been killed. Nonetheless, the antiwar movement chose to make this milestone a focus of nationwide vigils and the notion that this was a media moment to run with in and of itself bears some serious examination...

The end of the Cold War found the U.S. and its NATO allies unprepared for the geocultural realities they met in Eurasia. As in the Middle East, Islam was bound to play a central role here, but the American concept of church/state division and the European concept of secular modernity put Western analysts at a loss where Islamism (the cultural politics of Islam) was concerned. Americans were especially in a fog in their effort to supplant Russian influence in the newly independent nations of Central Asia, where an Islamic renaissance had been in progress long before the Soviet collapse. Although all the ex-Soviet republics are officially secular, Islam is at once a key to legitimacy and a linchpin of resistance throughout the region. U.S. policy makers tend either to ignore this religious factor or, when that becomes impossible, to treat it as a cultural atavism in need of repair. That bias obscures the most crucial cultural fact of current Eurasian politics: that insofar as civil Islam (a moderate form that welcomes democracy but contests the culturally invasive commercialization that is synonymous with current “globalization”) is the worst enemy of uncivil Islam, Washington’s broad-spectrum “war on terrorism” sets in motion a vicious circle whereby aid to dictatorial regimes pushes moderate Islamists into the extremist camp, which in turn becomes a pretext for more aid...

Ten years of NAFTA's so-called economic reforms have resulted in widespread poverty, high unemployment, massive debt, and a series of other economic crises. Bush is hoping to get the deal back on track while attending the summit, but his prospects look grim. Protests against his visit were already underway in Argentina three days before he arrived there, with the blocking of bridges and streets in the capital of Buenos Aires, and posters bearing the slogans “Stop Bush” and “Fuera Bush,” some of which were superimposed over graphic pictures of wounded children in Iraqi. Argentine Nobel Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel recently told a radio audience that Bush is “a torturer, violator of human rights, an assassin, a violator of United Nations resolutions, of international treaties and of the sovereignty of peoples, as has happened in Iraq.”...

I’ve been putting together a chronology of the Niger Uranium Disinformation Scheme, drawing on numerous Plame Affair timelines available online. As the question of who outed Plame leads to the question of who invented the yellowcake purchase story in the first place, the chronology has to include material on the Rome embassy break-in, Italian investigations, British reports on an African uranium purchase, CIA statements in response to those reports, officials’ public statements alleging a uranium deal, the establishment of bodies within the U.S. government to prepare for and explain the assault on Iraq, conversations between reporters and administration officials about Plame, investigations into the “prewar handling of intelligence,” prewar yellow journalism, the Fitzgerald investigation, etc. . . . My chronology-in-progress, which I’ll post when done, plainly indicates that the infamous 16 words in President Bush’s January 2003 State of the Union speech, and similar statements by Rice and Powell earlier that month, were caused by many months of discussion between U.S., British and Italian officials about alleged efforts by Iraq to obtain yellowcake from Niger; months of activity by Michael Ledeen in concert with Italian friends culminating with his input into the Office of Special Plans;

Um Fahrzeuge entsprechend auf ihre elektromagnetische Verträglichkeit (EMV) hin testen zu können, hat der Automobilzulieferer in Regensburg eine Prüfhalle eingerichtet, die gestern offiziell eröffnet wurde. Standortleiter Reinhard Scheid bezeichnete sie als ein weiteres Element beim Ausbau Regensburgs zum Kompetenzzentrum von Siemens VDO für EMV. „Hier ist eines der größten Zentren der Branche für Reliability. Wir sind da Taktschläger.“ Komplettiert wird das Testzentrum Ende November, wenn ein 1,3 Kilometer langer Systemprüfkurs eröffnet wird.

Was passiert, wenn hochfrequente Wellen ihr Unwesen treiben, ist am leichtesten am Autoradio nachvollziehbar. Störungen sind dann hörbar. Schlimmer wäre es, wenn sich sicherheitsrelevante Geräte beim Passieren von Fernsehtürmen oder Radaranlagen beeinflussen ließen. Umgekehrt sollen die Steuergeräte selbst so wenig elektromagnetische Strahlung abgeben wie möglich. Dafür gibt es EU-Grenzwerte. Bird on the Wire - this one sided report reads to me like the complete 'spin' we see on all advertisements for mobile phones - which is not related to real life at all! If mobile technology is as safe as this 'advertisement' says it is - there should be no need for it to be so heavily and desperately advertised. After all, we never see comparable heavy advertising for conventional safe telephone landlines.

I was tickled pink to see this report criticise the government for not allowing mobile use in Westminster for safety reasons! When it comes to the safety of the government - the precautions taken in avoiding certain products seems to reveal how dodgy those technologies might be!

PROPOSED NEW TELECOMMUNICATIONS BILL - 2006

Background

In 2003, The Campaign for Planning Sanity (CfPS) was contacted by Richard Spring MP (Con) who had been successful in the annual private members' ballot and he was keen to take forward a Bill relating to telecom masts. A draft produced by Chris Maile of CfPS was adopted in full by Mr Spring and introduced to Parliament as the 'Town and Country Planning (Telecommunications Masts) Bill 2004'. This had a technical win of 10 votes in favour to 2 against at its second reading but fell owing to insufficient MPs being present in the House (40 being required for a quorum).

Andrew Stunell MP (Lib Dem) was successful in the next ballot and took up the Bill, slightly amended, in 2005, as the 'Telecommunications Masts (Planning Control) Bill. However, the General Election of that year was called before the second reading and thus, again for technical reasons, the Bill fell. It has now been taken forward by David Curry MP (Con) and is due for its second reading in February next year; however, since this latest Bill is not associated with a ballot place, it is most unlikely to given debating time.

The New Bill

Meanwhile, Chris Maile has drafted a new private members' Bill ready for the outcome of this year's ballot in mid-December. Titled the 'Town and Country Planning (Telecommunication, Statutory Nuisance, Health and Precautionary Principle) Bill 2006', it is an amalgam of the previous versions but expanded to have far-reaching powers; as such, it addresses the concerns about telecom masts more so than ever before. Chris intends to launch the Bill in advance of this year's ballot with the intent of persuading one of the successful MPs to adopt it; public release of the Bill is planned for 1st December.

By way of a synopsis, this new Bill will:

- Remove permitted development rights for mobile telecoms installations such that most, if not all, development is subject to the full planning process.

- Require the submission of a certificate defining the extent of the Beam of Greatest Intensity for telecoms developments.

- Require the submission of a statement on the precautionary approach being applied in respect of telecoms developments.

- Give greater rights for the removal of telecom developments that are on or close to educational and medical premises.

- Require a 'Health Statement' for all types of development covered by the draft.

- Require statutory nuisances to be treated as material planning considerations.

- Define excessive EMF emissions as a statutory nuisance whereby the operator responsible may be prosecuted by the public in the magistrates' court.

- Strengthen the rights of the public to compensation where they are adversely affected by telecoms developments.

This Bill needs the maximum possible support of all parties to ensure that it is adopted and taken forward. To this end, mast campaign groups and individuals are urged to:

- Promote the Bill in regional and local media.

As some of you will have heard directly from Chris Maile, it has now come to light that there will be no further ballot for Private Members' Bills until November 2006. Owing to this year's general Election, a ballot was held in June with little attendant publicity; David Curry MP was successful at No 13 on the list and hence his current Telecommunications Bill which is due to be given its second reading on 24th February.

We must therefore now turn our support to the Curry Bill and do our utmost to ensure that there are sufficient MPs in the House on 24th February to form a quorum and vote. If this Bill succeeds, well and good; if it fails, then we will be in pole position to promote Chris's Bill in advance of next year's Ballot.

Rinderstudie. Der von den Wissenschaftlern eingereichte Ergebnisteil musste damals von diesen vor der Veröffentlichung der Studie in entscheidenden Passagen abgeändert werden. Werden neue Erkenntnisse veröffentlicht, werden die Wissenschaftler eingesperrt (Bsp. Belarus).
