Iraq Mobile Network Brings Benefits and Bombs

http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsArticle.jhtml?type=technologyNews&storyID=6390052&section=news

--------

My arm is on fire. Hey, Micha here:

I think to my modest knowledge the rate of death anywhere, will be measured in the amount of radiation or radio frequency. It may be that in a war area, the frequency is turned on, on lower levels. Theirs a death range, was it between 0 and 4, or 2 until 4? On radio frequency. It made a difference for civilians and military, to either non-lethal or lethal approaches.

I wasn't a military, nor a civilian, I was a child, mind controlled, abused, sexually too, tortured especially and controlled between Cold War governments. There isn't much knowledge we children were used, and nowadays called "child- soldiers".

With me, a secret generation of children, mind controlled in the forties, fifties, for myself I was during the sixties, seventies and early eighties. If any benefit was involved, I'd not joined this list.

I'm chronic ill and handicapped increasingly, by the moth. It's much like autoimmune disease.

I wondered many times to contact any military facility. western or even eastern-European children, it's denied.

Any other 'children ' on here? You can write me off-list. Thank you.

It's horrible to me, a part of the world turned into war-without-peace, and so much with all sorts of humanity. Humanity was free-sex and free-access to living tissue and living children for human-experimentation, I feel sick.

I didn't look. More than surely, it will be more terrible. I don't like to peak through one war area and not into an other. I do understand, you are a network.

micha.

In Cellular Towers' Shadows, Anxiety

Worried About Radiation, Parents Urge Fairfax Schools to Drop Cash Cow

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A34213-2004Sep19.html

By Maria Glod, Washington Post Staff Writer

Monday, September 20, 2004; Page B03

Diana Barbera, a filmmaker and mother of four, turned to the Internet when she heard that Fairfax County school officials wanted to put a towering pole of wireless phone antennas at the middle school two of her children attend.

Barbera, 38, of Clifton learned that the federal government says that people near such poles encounter low levels of radio-frequency radiation but that they would have to be next to the antennas -- usually about 100 feet in the air -- to be exposed to potentially dangerous levels. She also read that some scientists question whether long-term exposure also may be harmful to people on the ground.

The way Barbera sees it, the mere possibility is reason enough to ban placement of the antennas near schools. With another Fairfax parent, Karl Polzer of Falls Church, she began speaking out against proposed cellular antenna poles before the School Board. This month, they launched http://www.protectschools.org

"People are so cautious about their kids. We buckle them up and strap bike helmets on, but there's no way I can protect them from this," Barbera said. "In 20 or 30 years, if we find out this stuff is harmful, it's too late. I'd rather err on the side of caution."

As cell phones increasingly become routine, the towers and poles that hold the antennas needed to send cellular signals are popping up next to fire stations, on the roofs of government buildings and in church steeples.

Fairfax County schools have installed poles with cell phone antennas at six schools and one administrative building, officials said. There are plans to add them at several additional schools. In most cases, the poles double as light posts at football fields.

With each telephone carrier paying to rent the space, the towers are an easy moneymaker for nonprofits. Fairfax schools receive an initial $25,000 payment for each new pole and $5,000 each time another cellular phone company adds an antenna to a pole. The companies also pay about $2,000 in rent each month, which is split between the school system and Milestone Communications, the Reston-based company that manages the contracts for the schools.

Montgomery County schools have poles at one high school and one middle school. In Prince William County, there are cellular poles at two high schools.

Officials at the Federal Communications Commission said research has shown that it is safe to live or work in the shadow of a wireless phone antenna, provided the structure meets federal standards. Bruce Romano, associate chief at the FCC's office of engineering and technology, said government experts keep up with the latest research, adding, "We haven't seen anything that raises any concerns."

John E. Moulder, director of radiation biology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, agrees. Moulder said that on a daily basis, people come into contact with energy from television and radio broadcasting, emergency communications systems and tiny amounts from sources such as microwave ovens and garage door openers.

In his opinion, the low levels of energy around cellular towers pose no risk. "There is no reason . . . to expect that fields that low would have any impact at all," said Moulder, who added that there is a tower near his home.

Omega this is not true. The fields have strong impact.

But there is debate in the scientific community about whether enough is known to proclaim cell towers safe. Last month, the International Association of Fire Fighters, a union representing firefighters in the United States and Canada, agreed to seek funding to study the issue and voted to stop adding towers until that work is completed.

In a letter supporting Polzer and Barbera, Henry Lai, a University of Washington bioengineering professor, acknowledged that the level of radiation around a cellular tower is "typically very low" and "generally considered to be harmless."

But Lai, who studies the effects of radiation, said not enough research had been done on prolonged exposure, particularly on children, who can be more sensitive to environmental factors. He said some research indicates that people who live near towers suffer from headaches and learning problems.

Lai said it's common sense to keep the poles away from schools or day-care centers until more is known. "I'm not saying there's definitely harm," Lai said. "I'm saying there's a possibility."

Gunnar Heuser, a California physician, said that his examination recently of six firefighters who worked at stations with cell towers found that they had some brain impairments. The firefighters had trouble sleeping, headaches and trouble with their balance, he said.

Heuser acknowledges that no conclusions can be made from his work because he looked at only six people, and all of them could have been exposed to other hazards at work. But he said he is seeking funding for further testing.

Fairfax County school officials said environmental experts with the school system make a point of keeping up with the latest research and are confident that the towers are safe.

Polzer and Barbera said they expect to come before the School Board again and will visit with PTAs and community associations.

James B. Burch, a Colorado State University professor who teaches environmental and occupational epidemiology, said that he is not certain that the antennas can harm people who are near them for a long time but that he would not want his children to attend a school that had a cellular pole.

"I don't think it's clear at all," Burch said. "People call and say, 'They are building a cell tower in my neighborhood. Is there any effect?' I tell them I can't say for sure if there is a hazard. Nobody really knows."

£2.9bn police radio system 'faulty'

An 'interesting' development over Airwave in Scotland

Edinburgh Chief Constable rejects Airwave TETRA due to
"Very Serious Officer Safety Issues".

Dr Grahame Blackwell

CRIME REPORTER

Key points
• System shelved over safety fears
• Catalogue of problems found
• Failings ‘would put officers at risk’

Key quote
"There are significant failings in the operational capability and coverage throughout the force which mmO2 Airwave were not able to rectify by September 9" - Paddy Tomkins, Chief Constable

Story in full POLICE have shelved plans to introduce a £2.9 billion national radio system in the Capital - after discovering their radios do not work in part of the city centre.

Police chiefs say officers would be put at risk due to failings in the new system, which was due to be introduced across Lothian and Borders last week.

The force has insisted it will not introduce the new system unless a catalogue of problems are ironed out.

Police have found their radios repeatedly fail to work in Rose Street and have experienced similar problems in North Berwick in East Lothian.

There have also been persistent problems with emergency buttons which are supposed to summon help to officers when they are in danger. When the system was tested in Edinburgh, it took eight seconds for handsets to broadcast a signal meant to call for urgent assistance.

The force is the first in the UK to reject the digital Airwave UK network, which is intended to replace the standard radios currently used by all emergency services.

The Scottish Police Federation recently demanded the network be put on hold after previous tests found serious delays in an emergency alert function.

The system was supposed to be ready for service in the Lothians on September 9. But Chief Constable Paddy Tomkins said adopting the network would lead to "serious officer safety issues".

He said: "There are significant failings in the operational capability and coverage throughout the force which mmO2 Airwave were not able to rectify by September 9. MmO2 are not delivering coverage in North Berwick and Rose Street in the city centre. There are serious deficiencies in the quality and reliability of hand-held terminal use.

"The rigorous testing regime implemented by Lothian and Borders Police has identified further serious problems associated with the use of the emergency button.

"These are very serious officer safety issues which apply to all forces using the latest version of Airwave software. It is for these reasons we are the first force in the UK to reject the system."

Mr Tomkins said the force would consider moving to Airwave in the coming weeks, but only if the problems were rectified. He added: "The Police Information Technology Organisation and mmO2 Airwave are working with clear urgency to address the very serious emergency button issues. As yet, however, we have not been provided with a firm timescale for the problem to be resolved.

"The existing radio system operated by the force remains fully operational. The delay in Airwave can be accommodated."

The new network’s implementation is being overseen by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland. Telecoms giant mmO2, which won the contract to introduce the digital system, has said it is investigating the problem.

An mmO2 Airwave spokesman said: "We will continue to work to resolve all Lothian and Borders Police force’s concerns to ensure delivery as soon as possible to provide the same kind of service already in use by 40 police forces, two fire services and two ambulance services in the UK."

Monster Masts Project

Photographer Eva-Lotta Jansson/Cobris, Photographed people who suffer from radiation and do not receive the right recognition for the problem. On her website, she shows their pictures protecting themselves from the radiation, and adds their personal story. For example:

Eileen O'Connor, 38, has had surgery twice for breast cancer during the past one and a half years. Since she concluded her breast cancer is related to the mobile phone mast situated about 100m from her house, O'Connor has shielded all the family beds in thousands of pounds worth of metal drapes. Here, she sits on the bed she shares with her husband. O'Connor lives in Wishaw village, near Birmingham, UK, where many others have reported health problems as well. Having received little recognition for their symptoms, some people who feel ill living near mobile phone towers have started to devise their own strategies to protect themselves from what they feel is harmful radiation.

The behaviour alteration with irrational violence hazard could be more important than the wireless communication?

Dear Dr. Eugenia Birchelay,

Please, can you confirm the reception of this email.

In the next Russian National Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, I suggest to study mainly the modulate microwaves emission and the mind control.

It is excellent that one Scientific from Russia gives more information about USA than all Scientifics from USA.

· Is the UMTS amplitude modulate?

· Why is emitting DECT microwave day and night “inside the house”?

Yours faithfully

Miguel Muntané

Mast victory

* "The reality that phone companies must now face is that people simply do not want these masts placed near their houses or schools."

IS THE KILLER FUTURE THE "CELL TOWER CAMOUFLAGE"?

Dr Miguel Muntané

Mast victory

By Karen Armstrong

RESIDENTS in Woodford Green are celebrating an unexpected victory after phone giant O2 had its planning application for a 50-foot mast thrown out on appeal.

The phone company planned to site the mast in the busy High Road outside someone's house and opposite Bancoft's Secondary School. But O2's appeal was thrown out on the grounds of site and appearance last week.

The site on the stretch of road is just 20 yards from a site for which O2 was refused permission after a campaign two years ago.

Residents handed a petition containing nearly 900 signatures to Redbridge Council to protest against the phone giant's plans.

Key campaigner Rochelle Posner said she and a team of neighbours were delighted with the result as it sent out the right message to phone companies that the 'little people' could fight back.

Woodford Green and Chingford MP Iain Duncan Smith joined the residents in their battle and said he was delighted with the result.

He said: "The reality that phone companies must now face is that people simply do not want these masts placed near their houses or schools.

"They are objecting to them all over the country and in the constituency here in Chingford and Woodford Green we had a number of complaints and concerns about these masts and I am pleased that this time we seem to have succeeded and do hope phone companies will recognise that they are not wanted here and move on.

"It is for the Government now to have a complete re-think about the legislation on placing these masts.

"It is quite intolerable that we are forced individually to fight these masts without any real help or support from the Government. It is time to think again."

But Woodford Green residents may not have heard the last of the phone company. An O2 spokesman said: "We are disappointed with the planning inspectorate's decision and we will be looking to go back to the local authority with another application."

Breaking the Waves

The construction in the pictures was erected in the middle of the night, and it contains at least 9 antennas of the 3G, it's 7.8 meters. This was erected in the city Tel Aviv, 29.7.2004.

In front of this construction lives Moshe Mishan's daughter, and also his studio is there. He was terrified by what he calls [how not] "the monster". He went to the Env. Ministry. He was told that at the periodical check, everything had been fine.

But it turned out to be that the Env. Ministry representative was talking about another antenna on the same roof, a hidden antenna that Moshe hadn't even known about, until he received this answer. The other antenna had been on the roof Since 1999. (it's inside one of the white sun boilers).

The Env. Ministry agreed to measure the new monster, and it was within the standard, says the article from last weekend. The construction was erected in Yehuda Halevi street 141. Gil Olimper from Yehuda Halevi 100, says that "The installation is monstrous and inconsiderate. It may be harmless, but none can take the chance.

We won't allow to put cellular antennas on our roof." Mishan is furious: "they did the experiment on the residents in the neighbourhood. They prevented from me and from the residents in the neighbourhood the basic right to protect ourselves."

The green organization Adam Teva Vadin says that the Env. Ministry is a rubber signature for the cellular companies. Ben Halman, an environmentalist, says that "the cellular companies claim that the antennas are within the standard, but no one checks this claim, or can guarantee that the standard is based on more than assumptions. It reminds the story with the asbestos. They built classrooms with this stuff, and only after decades bothered to check its effect and found it was carcinogenic."

Meanwhile, the residents are getting ready for a fight. Rafi Eliasi from Yehuda Halevi street 100 organized with two lawyers and a group of residents, "the Fight against Cellular Antennas Staff". The new organization sent this week letters to Cellcom executive [the monster is the creation of Cellcom], the mayor of Tel Aviv, the city engineer and the city architect, and they spoke to the chairman of the Env. Quality Committee. They use the the claus in the law that says that the municipality has to minimize the damage to the urban view. Also, the new organization [actually this is the first formal organization in Israel in the subject of cellular antennas ! ] collected signatures, they wrote on signs: "13 antennas were installed on the same roof.

It's an amazing number that includes the frightening installation that will emit much bigger radiation waves than the current radiation. It is untolerable disrespect for the welfare and health of the residents of the neighbourhood. Meanwhile we are getting organized for an uncompromising fight for removing the threat from above our head."

The don't eliminate any means for their fight, they also suggested to make organized tours to the antennas site, to block roads, to launch an internet campaign. The Cellular Forum [the companies' PR firm] said that the antennas received all the permissions by the law. "It is important to understand, that if there are no antennas there is no reception. The measurements show that the radiation levels are minor compared to the strict standard. All the experts in the field agree, that in order to lower the transmission power, of both cellular phones and cellular antennas, it is necessary to reduce the distance between the antenna and the cell phone.

So, in contrast to the public concern, multitude of transmission sites and their locations near populated areas reduces the transmission power."

Tel Aviv Municipality: "The Environment Quality Ministry approves every activation of antenna in the country, and we have no authority to permit activation of cellular antenna, only to give construction permissions. Further, no municipality can publish the intention to erect antennas, so it will be possible to file objections. The municipality asks the cellular companies to treat the design of the antennas in order to minimize the damage to the urban view."

Dr. Stelian Galberg, head of radiation and noise dep., Env. Ministry: "Cellular antenna is recognized by the government as infrastructure, so antennas that their height is not more than 9 meters go through a shorter process with no objections. From the public health perspective, the authorized body is the Env. Ministry. The reports of the risk assesment and the periodical checks, are done by professionals. We do as much as we can not to be a rubber signature, and we see ourselves as a professional and an objective body. According to the best knowledge by now, exposure to the permitted radiation levels, that are especially strict in Israel, there is no danger for damage. However, we can't guarantee that there is no health danger in exposure."

Summery from "Breaking the Waves", Tamara Shreiber, "The City" [Tel Aviv newspaper] 26/8/2004 p. 26.

"Council pulls cunning stunt on phone bosses"

"LONDON (Reuters) - Mobile phone bosses face embarrassment after a London council dished out their phone numbers to the public on mock flyers for prostitutes' services, aiming to prod them into action against rampant advertising by the sex trade." ...

"Chief executives targeted for ridicule by the council included Vodafone's Arun Sarin, Orange's Sanjiv Ahuja, 3 UK's Bob Fuller, NTL's Simon Duffy and O2 UK's Dave McGlade.

Telewest Chief Executive Barry Elson and T-Mobile UK Managing Director Brian McBride were also named."...
