Eastern Navajo Diné Against Uranium Mining (ENDAUM) issues this urgent CALL TO ACTION for support of the Diné Natural Resources Protection Act (DNRPA), Legislation No. 0886-04, currently pending final action before the Navajo Nation Council’s Winter 2005 Session.

PLEASE COME TO THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS IN WINDOW ROCK, CAPITAL OF THE NAVAJO NATION, ON THURSDAY JANUARY 27 AND FRIDAY JANUARY 28 TO PARTICIPATE IN A HISTORIC EXPRESSION OF SOVEREIGNTY BY THE NAVAJO NATION. Based in part on the Fundamental Laws of the Diné and drafted for compliance with federal law, DNRPA would be the first Navajo law to prohibit open pit and underground uranium mining and place a 25-year moratorium on uranium processing, including in situ leach or solution mining.

Bring signs supporting immediate passage of the bill. We will have copies of the legislation and information handouts at the Council Chambers. Expect to spend Thursday and ALL DAY Friday waiting for the legislation to reach the floor. When convenient, speak to your Council Delegate about the urgent need to pass DNRPA, this session. The Spring Session in April may be too late.

Be respectful of Council delegates, staff and other Navajo citizens who may be at the Council Chambers. Be proud of supporting this historic legislation. ENDAUM believes that it responds to the vast majority of our people who have said repeatedly and loudly they do not want new uranium mining.

We have written responses to the claims and allegations of the Eastern Navajo Allottees Association in last Saturday’s Gallup Independent. They are not just false and inaccurate, but malicious in tone. ENDAUM will not engage in tactics like those. We will stick to the facts and by guided by our Diné teachings.

HALT ASSESSMENT PROCESS FOR TULSEQUAH CHIEF MINE: STOFFER

Lower Sackville, N.S. – The assessment process for the Tulsequah Chief Mine project in British Columbia’s Taku River watershed should be halted, said NDP Fisheries Critic Peter Stoffer today. Stoffer is concerned that the integrity of the assessment process has been compromised.

“I urge Minister Regan to halt the screening assessment and refer the project to a federal Panel Review. The integrity of the process has been compromised and a mining lobbyist has had undue influence,” said Stoffer. “I can see no other explanation for why DFO officials reversed their original commitment to consider the key issue of environmental effects of extended use of the road after mine site closure.

The project proponent Redfern Resources plans construction of a 160 kilometre road into the heart of the Taku wilderness and operation of a mine near the salmon-rich Tulsequah River.

“Everyone knows once this road is built it will stay in use. The Project Approval Certificate issued by the province of British Columbia leaves the door open for the road to exist in perpetuity and Environment Canada has said there is no reason to expect this road to be decommissioned,” said Stoffer.

“This road is going to have considerable impacts on the environment and on traditional use by the Taku River Tlingit First Nation,” said Stoffer. “DFO officials agreed with that assessment until May of last year. A backroom meeting with company officials and a mining lobbyist appears to have changed all that.”

Stoffer also questions why DFO is unwilling to hold public meetings with residents on this issue. Repeated requests by residents of affected communities have been rejected. The Taku River Tlingit First Nation has asked for meetings with top DFO officials with no success.

I have just received an urgent notice from Adam Rubel of Saq Be’. Adam states he has just received word from Carlos Barrios (Mayan Elder), that earth changing events are “in motion” to escalate. No, not next year, not next month, but next week or next day.

The first thing Adam reminds us “not” do is hit the panic button. What is unfolding is in perfect order and the Earth has seen this many times before. However, it is suggested, and I am personally suggesting to you, that our collective influence can make a difference. I believe this is what our ancestors have told us all along. It says so in the Bible, in the Mayan Calendar, in Tibetan Sanskrit, Hopi Petroglyphs, Egyptian Hieroglyphs and the list is endless. No, this is not woo-woo, it is science. More on this below.

Professor Richard Davidson (University of Wisconsin) just released his latest research on the power of meditation. I have sent word to Dr. Davidson to arrange an upcoming interview on Earth Changes TV ‘Radio Hour’. In a Washington Post article released earlier today, Professor Davidson reports over the past few years researchers at the University of Wisconsin have been working with Tibetan monks were able to translate those mental experiences into the scientific language of high-frequency gamma waves and brain synchrony, or coordination. They have pinpointed the left prefrontal cortex, an area just behind the left forehead, as the place where brain activity associated with meditation is especially inten! se. Many have long believed it is the “Pineal Gland”.

Davidson says his newest results from the meditation study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in November shows that mental training through meditation (and presumably other disciplines) can itself change the inner workings and circuitry of the brain. Full Article:

It will have to take a BIG VOICE from the PEOPLE to really get some changes

My name is Sandi Lawrence and I am one of the new Mast Sanity committee members. If I communicate with politicians or phone companies (especially 02 Airwave) I make sure they know that I am in this to the finish i.e. healthy results for humans and animals, or scatter my ashes to the wind over the sea, whichever comes first! That is the way it is for me.

I think the Sioux Indian in me rises to any threat to Our Creator's wish, that we take care of this Earth; the animals of the air, land, and sea; and every human, whatever race or tribe.

I wouldn't let my brother kill woodlice when I was young, so sure as hell, I am not going to let those with power and money hurt humans, animals and the environment without a determined and lifelong effort to oust them! Even female part Native Americans can be warriors when the blood is up, you know!

Far from being dead and buried, Mast Sanity now has a new committee to propel it forwards and upwards and carry on the work Lisa and co started before we arrived on the scene. Sorry, but I cannot name the "and co" because we have been too busy trying to take over the reins temporarily for Lisa, and I did not think about what has been, only what must be done now!

I hope you, and all new mast campaigners to come, will benefit from what we are trying to achieve for you all. I also hope that we will have your support in return.

My personal opinion is that I think it will have to take a BIG VOICE from the PEOPLE to really get some changes, unless a miracle happens, so exercise those vocal chords everyone and join hands across the UK, incase a miracle doesn't happen!
