Porter Goss, President Bush’s nominee to head the CIA, recently introduced legislation that would give the president new authority to direct CIA agents to conduct law-enforcement operations inside the United States—including arresting American citizens. The legislation, introduced by Goss on June 16 and touted as an "intelligence reform" bill, would substantially restructure the intelligence community. In a little-known section, the Goss bill would substantially alter — if not overturn — a 57-year-old ban on the CIA conducting operations inside the United States...

The Homeland Security Department is tossing out huge chunks of a multi-million-dollar plan to run background checks on airline passengers. So many people objected to the Computer-Assisted Passenger Pre-screening System, CAPPS II for short, that the makeover will even include a new name. Critics especially disliked CAPPS II because it would check identity by running a passengers' personal information against government and commercial databases.

Homeland Security officials say the new plan will likely use a different system to check identity. Officials also say the new system will give passengers the ability to correct mistakes if they're wrongly identified as terrorists or suspects. The makeover will include a new name, though that, too, is turning out to be a dilemma for the Homeland Security Department.

US: Paketverkehr/überwachung einmal anders

Nein, diesmal betrifft es weder TCP, IP noch UDP, gemeint sind diesmal Paketadressen und Absender im echten Leben, die eingelesen werden sollen. Da bereits Menschen an den Grenzen routinemäßig eingelesen werden, ist es nur logisch.


Europas Postämter sollen Daten über Absender und Adressaten vor Versand an US-Behörden liefern. "Hochgradig problematisches Ansinnen", sagt der oberste deutsche Datenschützer.

Die USA wollen ihr Grenzkontrollsystem [US-VISIT] im Kampf gegen den Terrorismus offensichtlich weiter verschärfen, mit dem Ziel, dass nichts und niemand ohne vorherige Registrierung in das Land kommen kann.

So wurden nun die europäischen Postunternehmen aufgefordert, künftig Voraus-Angaben über die Empfänger und Absender von Paketen, die in die USA verschickt werden, zu liefern.

Der Datenhunger der USA stößt dabei auf immer mehr Widerstand.

"Ich halte dieses Ansinnen für hochgradig problematisch und habe ernsthafte Zweifel an der Zulässigkeit dieser Datenübermittlung", so der deutsche Datenschutzbeauftragte Peter Schaar.

So hätten die USA einen tagelangen Informationsvorsprung, was die Paket-Empfänger betrifft und könnten diese durch den Abgleich mit anderen Datenbanken nach potenziellen Terroristen durchforsten und verdächtige Pakete abfangen.

Einreisende bereits umfassend registriert

Schon jetzt erheben die USA außerhalb des eigenen Hoheitsbereichs personenbezogene Daten.
