Get Snowmobiles Out of Yellowstone

Take Action!

http://ga1.org/campaign/yellowstonesnowmobiles/wd8ks5xrritj8k

When you go to Yellowstone, America's first national park, you know you'll see Old Faithful, roaming bison and Yellowstone Falls. What you don't want to see, smell and hear are hordes of noisy, polluting, snowmobiles roaring through the park.

During 14 years of research, both the National Park Service and Environmental Protection Agency have determined that shifting from snowmobiles to snowcoaches in the park provides the strongest and best protection for wildlife and visitors, and for the natural beauty and quiet of Yellowstone. Yet, the phase-out still has not begun.

Please take a moment today to tell the Bush Administration to stop playing games with Yellowstone. We encourage you to add your own words to our letter, below, then click "Send this Letter."

Weyerhaeuser logs in endangered forests regions

Wake up Weyerhaeuser Campaign News, Updates, Action!
Greetings Old Growth friends!

1) Trader Joe's update

Saturday, June 19th was our second in a series of days of action focused on getting Trader Joe's to sever business ties with Weyerhaeuser for paper bags. Weyerhaeuser logs in endangered forests regions in order to supply its customers like Trader Joe's with pulp and paper.

Dozens of events were held in 8 states, in cities stretching from San Francisco to Boston. Many events were at Trader Joe's locations; many others were educational events in communities throughout America to raise awareness about Weyerhaeuser and its customers, and to gather petition signatures.

More than 1,100 emails were sent to CEO Dan Bane, and hundreds of calls poured in during the week of the day of action to Trader Joe's headquarters in Monrovia. In fact, the Trader Joe's office has assigned a customer service representative to address individuals concerns on this issue!

Trader Joe's still hasn't cancelled its Weyerhaeuser contract. We're ready to turn up the heat. Our next step is taking this message straight to the company headquarters, in Monrovia, California (a suburb just 30 minutes away from Los Angeles). If you'd like to help us plan an event there, email us today at grassroots@ran.org.

2) Give Trader Joe's a piece of your mind

If you haven't already done so, take a few minutes today to make a call or send an email to Trader Joe's. Tell them to sever business ties with Weyerhaeuser. Click here to send your email letter:
http://action.ran.org/ctt.asp?u=2844473&l=43820.

If you want to make a phone call, here's the 411: Trader Joe's headquarters: 781-433-0234

A short message should suffice: "I shop at Trader Joe's and I am upset that my grocery store buys its paper bags from Weyerhaeuser - the #1 destroyer of old growth forests in North America. Please cancel your paper bag contract with Weyerhaeuser."

You can also help by coordinating an action at your local Trader Joe's. Pick a local store, and have a chat with the manager! Or distribute flyers to customers. Or paint some placards and organize a demonstration. Whatever you do, have fun, and be sure that the manager of the branch knows that the public demands strong environmental standards and will not tolerate more procrastination from Trader Joe's! Request an action toolkit at grassroots@ran.org

3) New Online Calendar at ran.org

RAN is committed to giving activists the tools they need to organize, agitate, and have fun while bringing about radical social change. One tool we're excited about is a new online calendar that allows members, activists, and people like YOU to spread the word about events you're coordinating in your local community.

By posting your events online, you can give others the opportunity to get involved in efforts to transform the global economy, curb climate chaos, and protect endangered forests around the world.

Click here to check out the calendar today! Our event calendar is located at: http://action.ran.org/ctt.asp?u=2844473&l=44283

4) Stop the Biscuit Timber Sale in Oregon

In Oregon, the fight to protect the Siskiyou Mountains from logging has begun. The Forest Service is currently proposing to log 372 million board feet of timber from this post-fire landscape in the Siskiyou Mountains, one of the most diverse temperate forests in the world, which makes this timber sale one of the largest in the modern times. About 25,948-acres, or over 30 square miles, would be clearcut (the entire city of Medford is 20 square miles).

Environmental organizations, including RAN, and activists from around Oregon and beyond, are working to protect these forests from the bite of chainsaws. If you would like to get involved in the on-the-ground forest defense campaign please contact http://www.kswild.org, and Lesley Adams at lesley@kswild.org, 541.488.5789.

Get Truth Out on Intelligence Blunders

As early as tomorrow, the Senate will release a report that finds fault with the way the U.S. intelligence community gathered evidence on Iraq’s weapons and its links to Al Qaeda before the war. Unfortunately, the Senate doesn’t look at the role of one important actor: The White House.

If Fahrenheit 9/11 taught us one thing about the Bush administration, it’s that Bush has been keeping Americans in the dark on the war in Iraq. We shouldn’t lay the intelligence failure solely at the feet of the intelligence community. We need to create an independent commission to investigate the role of the White House. Take Action Today!
http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=440882&url_num=2&url=http://www.demaction.org/dia/organizations/2020vision/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=74

Americans have the right to know how our intelligence community got it wrong on Iraq’s weapons and links to terrorists—two major justifications for this war! Tell the White House to step in and order the CIA to release as much of the Senate Intelligence Committee report as possible. Contact the White House Today!
http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=440882&url_num=3&url=http://www.demaction.org/dia/organizations/2020vision/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=74

We’d also like to give you the chance to hear more about what we’ve been doing to educate people on the local level. Our Executive Director, Tom Collina has spoken on several radio shows about why we need to investigate the role of the White House in the Iraq intelligence failure.Click here to find out more!

Stop Global Warming

The film “Day After Tomorrow” may not be the most realistic depiction of how global warming could wreak havoc upon our environment, but it couldn’t have been more timely.

As early as TODAY, Congress will be voting on historic legislation that could help protect our planet from global warming. Please contact your Senators TODAY and ask them to support the McCain-Lieberman bill!
http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=418696&url_num=2&url=http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizations/2020vision/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=69

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Joseph Lieberman’s (D-CT) bill would control 75% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming. Better yet, it’s a pragmatic approach supported by industry, environmentalists, scientists, farm groups, and economists, and it wouldn’t hurt smaller businesses.

We have a unique opportunity to pass a consensus-based policy that will reduce air pollution and make our planet more secure in the long run. Last year we were only eight votes shy of winning. Please tell your Senators to support this bill today!
http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=418696&url_num=3&url=http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizations/2020vision/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=69

After you’ve emailed your Senators, please sign this petition sponsored by Environmental Defense that has already generated hundreds of thousands of signatures in support of combating global warming.

Stoppt Steuerklau - Stoppt Vodafone

"Stoppt Steuerklau. Stoppt Vodafone." - Aktion in Düsseldorf! (Attac-D-Info)

Mon, 5 Jul 2004 12:31:45 +0200

*Bitte an alle Freunde, Freundinnen, Bekannte, Verwandte, KollegInnen etc. weiterleiten!*

***STOPPT STEUERKLAU. STOPPT VODAFONE.***

Declare Energy Independence

AMERICA'S FUTURE

http://www.ourfuture.org

On July 4th, Declare Energy Independence!

Dear Fellow Citizen,

On America's birthday, we're asking you to do something patriotic, visionary and bold. This July 4th, help America declare energy independence by signing the Apollo Pledge http://action.apolloalliance.org/petition, a challenge to Presidential candidates and other elected officials telling them to lead our country in a better direction. We will deliver this pledge to the candidates at key points throughout the election starting this summer at both major parties' political conventions.

Sign the Apollo Pledge and Declare Energy Independence: http://action.apolloalliance.org/petition

As our country celebrates its 228th year of independence, we face real problems -- from high gas prices to an outdated electricity grid. It's time to demand good jobs here at home and to ensure that no American soldier is put in harms way defending Middle East oil. The new Apollo Project, named for President John F. Kennedy's bold challenge to send a man to the moon, will build a sustainable economic future that breaks our addiction to imported oil, cleans up the environment, and invests in American infrastructure and jobs that can't be outsourced.

Sign the Apollo Pledge and Declare Energy Independence: http://action.apolloalliance.org/petition

This is a country built on hope and innovation. On July 4th, help us solve our most pressing challenges by building a growing movement for Energy Independence. Take the pledge at http://action.apolloalliance.org/petition! And as you head off to picnic with family or watch the fireworks with friends, bring our pledge along with you -- click here to download the pledge form: http://www.apolloalliance.org/strategy_center/declaration.cfm. Or you can forward this email to five more of your friends by using our tell-a-friend interactive tool: http://action.apolloalliance.org/tellafriend/

Together we can make a difference!

Let the Ecuadorean Government Know that Oil Exploration and Protected Areas Do Not Mix

TAKE ACTION @ http://forests.org/action/ecuador/

The Brazilian national oil company PetroBras is finalizing plans to build a 45 kilometer (28 miles) access road into the heart of the ultradiverse Yasuni National Park in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Yasuni National Park's outstanding biodiversity was recognized in 1989 when it was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The park contains one of the highest known levels of plant diversity per hectare in the world. Wildlife abounds as jaguars still roam, woolly and spider monkeys still swing through the trees, and harpy eagles patrol the canopy. The proposed road will be a completely new artery, opening access into remote, primary Amazonian rainforest relatively untouched by human activities. As has happened elsewhere, it will trigger an irreversible wave of colonization and over hunting. Further, this road will transect the territory of the Chiru Isla Quichua indigenous community living along the Rio Napo, and would enter the ancestral territory of the Huaorani, possibly even impacting an uncontacted community. Two other major oil projects located within Yasuni Park are in earlier stages of development, thus the PetroBras road could very well set the precedent for a new wave of road building within the park. To protect Yasuni National Park's unique and threatened nature, wildlife and peoples, it is imperative that no further roads are built into the area.

Petition Requesting Support of Environmental Illnesses

Hello everyone,

A bunch of us at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MCS-Canada/
have created the petition below to ask the leaders of all the Canadian political parties to pledge to support and work on issues on behalf of us with Environmental Illnesses. If you agree with what is written and would like to participate with the petition please do the following:

Copy and paste the petition into a new email

Add your name, city and province

Send it back to me at the email address listed ( poulin@isp.com )

Please feel free to forward it on to other Canadian MCSers as well and have them follow the same procedure.

I will collate the info onto one or several pages so all the information is together and then send the completed petition to the national headquarters for each of the political parties. Please respond ASAP so we can get this out to the parties and get their response before the election.

Thank you.
Bonita Poulin

Petition Requesting Support of Environmental Illnesses

We, the undersigned, are a group of Canadians injured by the toxic effects of chemicals and are connected with many more such groups. According to a study published in the peer-reviewed journal, Environmental Health Perspectives, approximately 12-15% of the populations of industrialized countries suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity a.k.a. chemically induced illnesses, diseases and injury, a condition in which they experience severe adverse reactions from exposures to tens of thousands of common toxic and neuro-toxic chemicals which are now ubiquitous in our society.

We would like to throw our support behind a political party that will recognize and help those disabled by Environmental Illnesses, especially Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Fibromyalgia. These emerging illnesses are poorly recognized and understood by mainstream medicine. There are few diagnostic tests and treatments and those of us afflicted have been fighting an uphill battle to get proper diagnosis, health care, safe temporary and permanent housing, accommodation in the workplace and accessibility to public places. Specifically this is what we need:

a) Recognition of Environmental Illness and related emerging illnesses by mainstream medicine, Health Canada, Insurance Companies and Provincial Health Care Plans. This would include funding for research on these illnesses that has not been addressed by pharmaceutical companies.

b) Supporting the right of Canadians to have access to cost effective, alternative health care treatments, natural medicines such as vitamins and supplements as well as safe foods free from pesticides, hormones and Genetic Modification such as by supporting and passing into law bills like Greg Thompson's Bill C-416.

c) Both temporary and permanent safe, low cost housing options for people with Environmental Illness and especially Multiple Chemical Sensitivities.

d) Good environmental policies and the willingness to support issues such as pesticide bans and laying fines against environmental polluters, creating cleaner air for all Canadians.

e) Consideration of chemical sensitivities in issues of access to public places, accommodation in the workplace and support for caregivers.

If you are willing to pledge to support and work on these issues on behalf of us with Environmental Illnesses, we will support you publicly in the upcoming election campaign. Please reply to poulin@isp.com

GREAT CYBER WALL CHALLENGE

China is the homeland and biodiversity epicentre of the soya bean, but thanks to genetically engineered (GE) soya all of this is now under threat. We are asking Bunge Incorporated, one of the world's largest traders and processors of soya and the largest supplier of soya in the world to stop supplying GE soya to the Chinese market. To help drive that message home, Greenpeace China is asking our cyberactivists everywhere to write to Bunge:

Dear ,

This is XXX. Recently I have participated in a cyber action to help protect the biodiversity of soya in China, and I would like to invite you to join this meaningful action as well.

China is the homeland and center of diversity for soya. Soya originated in China and has a cultivation history spanning over 5,000 years. China has more soya varieties than anywhere else in the world. The genetic diversity of soya is a global heritage and vital to sustainable development of agriculture.

However, the homeland of soya is facing the risk of contamination by genetically engineered (GE) soya. GE soya is banned for growing in China, but import of GE soya is rising. Last year China imported a record-high 20 million tons of soya and it is estimated that 70% was GE soya. Every grain of GE soya is a seed, and if it was planted in the farm, it will multiply and spread. Mexico, the homeland of maize, has already found contamination of maize by imported GE maize from the U.S. If we do not take actions now, the homeland of soya will soon face irreversible contamination.

Greenpeace is campaigning globally against GE soya and determined to protect China, the homeland of soya, from contamination by GE soya.

Take action, be part of the global effort to build the Cyber Great Wall and keep GE soya away from the world, especially from China, the homeland of soya!

To protect the homeland of soya, we demand companies to stop importing GE soya into China because every grain of GE soya imported into China is a potential source of contamination.

Write to Bunge Ltd., the leading supplier of soya products to China, to commit to a global commitment to supply only non-GE soya, but particular to supply only non-GE soya to China because of the major risk GE soya poses to the homeland of soya. As one of the world’s leading traders and processors of soya, Bunge has a responsibility to protect the homeland of soya, a global heritage for all.

Click here to write to Bunge:

http://act.greenpeace.org/ams/e?a=1439&s=ensoya&r=1088090824_hoR

THERE IS MORE TO THIS THAN SIMPLE EMAILING!

Participants will be allocated a section of "Cyber Great Wall" where they can add a comment about their opposition to genetically manipulated food. As the participation grows, so will the Cyber Great Wall - a solid symbol of our determination to keep the new GE "barbarians" out of China and ultimately, out of global food supplies. You can view the Cyber Great Wall here:
