Comment: From the perspective of a person heavily invested in pharma stock, a primary owner of a pharma corporation, or a kowtowing pharma servant in a "regulatory" agency, that 1 in 6 kids is damaged is good news and portends well for ongoing sales of pharmaceuticals. A Powerful Connection, Says Gerald Higgins

If you have listened to VOCM Open Line show within the past few years, or read anything regarding electo-magnetic fields, you have probably heard the name Gerald Higgins.

Gerald, who resides in Norris Arm, Newfoundland, has made it his personal passion to advise the public on the shocking facts he has discovered regarding the dangers of electo-magnetic fields (EMFS) that surround us every day. EMFs are invisible lines of force that surround all powerline distribution systems, electrical devices and wiring. They can also be found in mobile phones, microwave ovens, etc.

In 2005 Gerald's wife, Margaret Higgins, died from cancer at the age of 45. He believes strongly that the power lines that ran over his house, plus the transformer that was located 11 feet away, caused her cancer and subsequent death. His fight to have this possibility recognized by others began around the time his wife was diagnosed.

Mr. Higgins is not alone in his fears that much of the cancer found in our society is caused by electrical magnetic fields. There have been many debates and studies done which have substantial findings on this issue. Mr. Higgins has been trying to get an independent study carried out in Newfoundland, but has yet to see the fruits of his labour. Recently the matter has been taken up by the NLFM and the Town of Burin is supporting Mr. Higgins by putting a resolution on the table to have an independent study carried out.

Mr. Higgins carried out an informal study himself a year or so ago, and contacted each community in Newfoundland to ascertain how many cancer patients/victims lived near EMF producing transformers. Every single community (of the 90 that responded) reported the same thing - the highest percentage of people afflicted with the disease were living right next to transformers. This, according to Mr. Higgins, is enough to warrant a study by an impartial source.

Don Maisch of Emfacts has also done much research on the topic. His findings coincide with those of Mr. Higgins and others, that electrical magnetic fields (EMFs) are life threatening when located near residential housing.

In a statement Mr. Maisch wrote on the subject recently, he states, "Exposure to EMFs at levels implicated with ill health effects can arise from living in close proximity to transmission lines (roughly under 60 meters) or unbalanced street powerlines, electric currents running on metal water piping in homes and offices, office work stations adjacent to major electrical equipment as well as sources within the home, such as having a bed head close to a meter box on a bedroom wall." Other studies done on this topic and their findings also point to the possibility of the dangers of transformers and other electrical devices located in close proximity to residences. In many cases, these devices can easily be relocated to a safer location.

Mr. Higgins himself requested that the power lines hanging over his house be relocated a safe distance away and, after several requests, the lines were moved farther away. Mr. Higgins has a wealth of information on hand that he has collected over the years and he has no signs of stopping until he can see something positive come out of all this, that being an independent study done on the effects of EMFs and the link to cancer and other deadly diseases.

Mobilfunk: Bürgerinitiative informiert in eigener Veranstaltung über Risiken der Technik – Kritik an Laptops in Schulen

KIRSCHHAUSEN. Baubiologie Dr. Siegfried Schwarzmüller und Informationsmediziner Dr. Wolfram Haas waren die Referenten der Infoveranstaltung „Mobilfunk und sein Risiko“ der Bürgerinitiative Kirschhausen. Mehr als 50 interessierte Bürger, darunter Stadtpolitiker der Heppenheimer Grünen Liste und Vertreter des Ortsbeirates, waren am Montagabend in das Gasthaus „Zur Post“ gekommen, um den interessanten Vorträgen der beiden Mobilfunkgegner beizuwohnen. Ziel des Abends sollte es sein, so Moderator und BI-Mitglied Dirk Löseke, dass jeder Zuhörer am Ende für sich selbst entscheiden könne, wie gefährlich oder ungefährlich Mobilfunk sei.

„Wie viel Mobilfunk verträgt der Mensch?“ Diese Frage stellte Schwarzmüller in den Raum und unterlegte seinen Vortrag mit allerlei Versuchen und Messungen, die die Mehrzahl der Anwesenden sehr beeindruckten. Verwundert und verärgert zeigte sich der Baubiologe und Berufsschullehrer darüber, dass trotz vielfältiger Beweise für den schädlichen Einfluss der Strahlungen kaum Reaktionen von den Verantwortlichen kämen. Und das, obwohl die Untersuchungen nicht nur von ausgewiesenen Mobilfunk-Gegnern gemacht werden: Bereits 1999 habe der Rat der Europäischen Union empfohlen, dass es „unbedingt notwendig ist, die Bevölkerung in der Gemeinschaft vor nachweislich gesundheitsschädlichen Auswirkungen zu schützen, die als Folge der Exposition gegenüber elektromagnetischen Feldern eintreten können“.

Auch das Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz habe 2003 geäußert, dass es immer die Möglichkeit für wissenschaftlich noch nicht verstandene Risiken gebe. Vorsorgemaßnahmen seien also dringend notwendig. Als eine solche schlägt das Bundesamt im gleichen Schreiben vor, „unnötige Quellen von elektromagnetischen Feldern abzuschalten, die Dauer der Einwirkung elektromagnetischer Strahlungen so weit wie möglich zu verringern, vor unvermeidbaren Strahlungsquellen einen möglichst großen Abstand zu halten“. Die Strahlenschutzkommission kam 2003 zum gleichen Ergebnis.

Doch Konsequenzen aus diesen Untersuchungen gebe es keine. Der Baubiologe findet es ganz besonders „schlimm“, das gerade Kinder und Jugendliche immer mehr den Gefahren von elektromagnetischer Strahlung ausgesetzt würden. Nicht nur, dass bereits die Jüngsten ständig ein Handy am Ohr hätten. Sogar mit Duldung und Unterstützung der Verantwortlichen des Kreises würde die Aufrüstung mit elektromagnetischen Wellen durchgeführt: So würden immer mehr Grundschulen mit Laptops ausgerüstet, die drahtlos – also mittels WLAN – mit dem Internet verbunden würden. Die Schulen müssten geradezu darum kämpfen, wenn sie die Internet-Verbindung mit dem Kabel vorziehen würden. Bei 20 Laptops in einer Klasse sei die Gesundheitsgefährdung der Kinder immens. Insbesondere der Medienbeauftragte des Kreises Bergstraße wurde von Schwarzmüller heftig kritisiert. Schwarzmüller sieht statistische Erhebungen, die besagen, das zwischen 1998 und 2003 die Zahl der Sonderschüler um 25 Prozent gestiegen ist und dass ein Drittel aller eingeschulten Grundschüler nicht schulfähig sei in direkten Zusammenhang mit der immer mehr zunehmenden Strahlung.

Der Referent lobte ausdrücklich Empfehlungen in England und Österreich, die Eltern ausdrücklich davor warnen, ihren Kindern vor dem 16 Lebensjahr Handys anzuschaffen.

Dabei ist es nicht allein das Mobiltelefon, das nach Ansicht der Bürgerinitiativen für allerlei gesundheitliche Schäden verantwortlich. Allein im Haushalt könne es zahlreiche Quellen geben, die zu Schlafstörungen und anderen Gesundheitsbeeinträchtigungen führen könnten. Das fange bei der Nachttischlampe an, durch die auch dann Strom fließe, wenn sie ausgeschaltet sei, gehe von Funkweckern über Radiowecker bis hin zur Mikrowelle. In der Küche, so raten Umweltmediziner, solle man niemals vor dem Herd oder der Spülmaschine stehen bleiben, wenn diese in Betrieb seien. Ganz besonders strahlungsintensiv seien Induktionsherde. Und das größte Übel im Haushalt sei neben Handy und WLAN das schnurlose Telefon. Die Basisstationen der sogenannten DECT-Telefone senden nach Informationen von Dr. Schwarzmüller Tag und Nacht, auch wenn nicht telefoniert wird. Damit habe man sozusagen einen Mobilfunksender in der eigenen Wohnung. Kopfschmerzen, Schlaflosigkeit, Nervosität und ähnliche Beeinträchtigungen könnten ihre Ursache in einem DECT-Telefon oder WLAN-Gerät im Haus oder in der Nachbarschaft haben. Den Test, wie anfällig jeder einzelne auf elektromagnetische Wellen ist, könne man ganz leicht durchführen: Einfach über mehrere Tage oder Wochen hinweg verdächtige Geräte vom Stromnetz trennen (oder von den Akkus) und beobachten, ob die gesundheitlichen Beeinträchtigungen sich im Laufe der Zeit bessern. Übrigens: Die beste Alternative für ein DECT-Telefon sei ein herkömmliches Schnurtelefon.

Wer auf ein schnurloses Telefon angewiesen ist, für den komme als kleineres Übel der CT1-plus Standard in Frage. Auch für diejenigen, die auf ein Handy nicht verzichten können oder wollen, hat der Berufsschullehrer einen Rat: Vor dem Handykauf solle man sich im Internet über den SAR-Wert der einzelnen Geräte informieren und eines mit einem möglichst niedrigen Wert auswählen. rid

p.281 on the Medical Research Council's three man committee on the health efffects of depleted uranium -

" The other two members of this coven are Dudley Goodhead and Prof. David Coggon of the MRC epidemiology unit at Southampton. Coggon is famous for having written in the BMJ in 1994 that 'there was no epidemic of cancer'. When I accosted him with this howler recently he was clearly embarrassed but tried to maintain that this was still the case. Coggon took over from Martin Gardner, the epideniologist who confirmed the Sellafield leukaemia cluster and found it was associated with the parents who worked for the nuclear site. Gardner died suddenly of cancer age 50. Coggon shut down the research. He is now a favourite of the establishment for Chairing committees on ill-health and pollution, e.g. the Advisory Committee on Pesticides (ACP) and the Depleted Uranium Committee of the Ministry of Defence (DUOB). Goodhead and Coggon got OBEs. I hope it makes them happy.

They will crop up again in this book, my point is to show that there do not need to be so many operators to keep the system going, just a few people in the right places. Nor am I saying they are anything but perfect gentlemen who believe what it is they say. It is merely that when someone talks about the science of radiation risk, what is there in practice is actually the beliefs and activities of rather a few individuals".

Biologin Bleuel spricht über Risiken

Penzberg – Der Versuch im Rahmen einer Schüler-Studie ist simpel: Ein Junge telefoniert 20 Sekunden mit dem Handy und nimmt dann eine Blutprobe von seinem Ohrläppchen. Unter dem Mikroskop zeigt sich: Die Struktur seiner roten Blutkörperchen hat sich nach dem Telefonat verändert, sie sind verklumpt. So erzählt es die Biologin Heike-Solweig Bleuel. „Der Junge hat heute kein Handy mehr.“ Sie war gestern zu Gast bei den Siebtklässlern der Penzberger Realschule – zum Projekt-Unterricht über den Umgang mit Mobilfunk. Am Montag ging dem ein Abend für Eltern und Interessierte voraus. Thema: „Handy – Spaß, Nutzen, Risiken“.

Der Elternbeirat der Realschule und die Bürgerinitiative „Aktion Antenne Penzberg“ (AAP) hatten die Referentin aus Tübingen eingeladen. Seit vier Jahren geht Bleuel an Schulen, um mit Kindern über ihren Handy-Gebrauch, die möglichen Gefahren und das Suchtpotenzial zu sprechen. Bei über 90 Prozent liege die Handy-Dichte der unter 16-jährigen Schüler: „Und viele machen sich regelrecht abhängig von dem Gerät.“ Für die rund 40 Zuhörer hatte Bleuel mehrere Ratschläge: das Handy nur für den Gebrauch in Betrieb nehmen, zuhause eine Rufumleitung aufs Festnetz einrichten und Kindern entsprechend eine eigene Festnetz-Nummer einräumen.

Außerdem stellte die Biologin Versuche vor, in denen die Wirkung der Handy-Strahlung auf den Organismus erforscht werden sollte. So hätte sich im Tierversuch gezeigt, dass die Strahlung einen Effekt auf die schützende Bluthirnschranke habe, sagte sie. Diese sei bei Nagetieren, die einem Handy ausgesetzt wurden, durchlässig für schädliche Stoffe geworden. „Da waren Eiweiße im Gehirn, die dort nicht hingehören.“ Diese Ergebnisse würden vom Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz anerkannt.

Zu möglichen Gesundheitsfolgen sagte Bleuel bewusst nichts. Dennoch könnten die Probleme elektrosensibler Menschen nicht von der Hand gewiesen werden. Eigentlich sei sie gewohnt, vor mehr Interessierten zu sprechen, so die Dozentin am Ende. Auch Jürgen Loose (AAP) hatte mit mindestens 100 Zuhörern gerechnet: „Wir sind sehr enttäuscht.“ K nah

Comments on the Swedish EMF Health Risk Report

I would like to register a couple of additional comments relative to this latest Swedish review.

* The fundamental problem with this report as well as a number of other similar reports that appear a couple of times yearly is that they are focusing on the wrong types of data to predict human health risks. Risks can most efficiently be predicted based on mechanism based in vitro and in vivo studies, clinical observations and conservative risk assessment models. Those are the tools used in pre-market testing of potentially dangerous consumer products. Had the requirement for pre-market testing of wireless devices not been waived by regulators around the world, these data would have been in hand in time to predict risks and save lives. Now, those groups responsible for the breach of public trust are hiding behind these reviews to save their behinds politically.

* The 'elephant in the room' is that the human studies that these vested interest review groups are fond of focusing on are after-the-fact data that should appropriately be used to determine whether or not risk predictions were accurate. There has never been a public health threat identified early enough for intervention that saved lives based on epidemiological data. These studies essentially rely on body counts -- a very inefficient basis for public health action.

* Politically, the industry/lapdog strategy is to trap activist groups into engaging in the debate about the meaning of these studies in terms of proving health effects. The issue of proving the presence of health effects is relevant only in litigation -- and the industry has strategized that framing all of these arguments in terms of cause and effect gives them cover in the litigation which threatens their very existence. And that at the expense of not only taxpayers in various countries, but at the expense of countless lives lost that could have been prevented had time efficient intervention steps been offered.

* Thus, the Swedish report is a political compendium masquerading as science. Its purpose is to cover the behinds of both government regulators who have not done their jobs and mobile phone industry companies who face serious liability because of their continuous breaches of public trust. When these facts are considered, we see that the wireless industry and their lapdog groups are not so strange bedfellows.

Abstract

The present work describes the effect of low level continuous microwaves (2.45 GHz) on developing rat brain. Some 35-day-old Wistar rats were used for this study. The animals were exposed 2 hr/day for 35 days at a power density of 0.34 mW/cm 2 [specific absorption rate (SAR), 0.1 W/kg] in a specially made anechoic chamber. After the exposure, the rats were sacrificed and the brain tissue was dissected out and used for various biochemical assays. A significant increase in calcium ion efflux and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) activity was observed in the exposed group as compared to the control. Correspondingly, a significant decrease in the calcium-dependent protein kinase activity was observed. These results indicate that this type of radiation affects the membrane bound enzymes, which are associated with cell proliferation and differentiation, thereby pointing out its possible role as a tumor promoter.
