Alzheimer rate up 5% in 2005
Could the increase in age-adjusted Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease rate be caused by the microwave radiation of cell phones?
The CDC just released death data for 2005
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/pubs/pubd/hestats/prelimdeaths05/prelimdeaths05.htm
In the highlights
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/07newsreleases/lifeexpectancy.htm they state:
The age-adjusted death rates for the seventh leading cause of death, Alzheimer's disease, and the 14th leading cause of death, Parkinson's disease, both increased approximately 5 percent between 2004 and 2005.
This comes on top of an increase in death rate of 32%
http://www.alz.org/national/documents/Report_2007FactsAndFigures.pdf (not age-adjusted) from 2000 to 2004, computed by the Alzheimer's Association
http://www.alz.org
Alzheimer's was first described in 1906. The rate in the U.S. skyrocketed by a factor of ten between 1979 and 1986. Part of this was attributed to increased awareness and diagnosis, but the rate of death from all forms of dementia also increased
http://origin.cdc.gov/nchs/data/series/sr_20/sr20_028.pdf . The rate then leveled off for ten years before increasing again. That was the same period during which the number of cell phone subscribers increased from less than one million to more than 50 million
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0933563.html . This could be a coincidence, but it is known that the microwaves emitted by cell phones penetrate the skull and can cause proteins to become denatured
http://prola.aps.org/abstract/PRE/v61/i4/p4310_1 or unfolded.
Both Alzheimer's and Parkinsons are now considered to be conformational diseases
http://www.nature.com/ncb/journal/v2/n11/full/ncb1100_E207.html caused by aggregation of misfolded proteins.
Epidemiologist George Carlo has said that he expects to see huge increases in Alzheimer's, Parkinsons, autism, ADD and cancer
http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2007/aug2007_report_cellphone_radiation_01.htm due to cell phones.
