There is presently an intense discussion if electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure has consequences for human health. This include exposure to structures and appliances that emit in the extremely low frequency (ELF) range of the electromagnetic spectrum, as well as emission coming from communication devices using the radiofrequency part of the spectrum. Biological effects of such exposures have been noted frequently, although the implication for specific health effects is not that clear. The basic interaction mechanism(s) between such fields and living matter is unknown. Numerous hypotheses have been suggested, although none is convincingly supported by experimental data. Various cellular components, processes, and systems can be affected by EMF exposure. Since it is unlikely that EMF can induce DNA damage directly, most studies have examined EMF effects on the cell membrane level, general and specific gene expression, and signal transduction pathways. In addition, a large number of studies have been performed regarding cell proliferation, cell cycle regulation, cell differentiation, metabolism, and various physiological characteristics of cells. Although 50/60 Hz EMF do not directly lead to genotoxic effects, it is possible that certain cellular processes altered by exposure to EMF indirectly affect the structure of DNA causing strand breaks and other chromosomal aberrations. The aim of this article is to present a hypothesis of a possible initial cellular event affected by exposure to ELF EMF, an event which is compatible with the multitude of effects observed after exposure. Based on an extensive literature review, we suggest that ELF EMF exposure is able to perform such activation by means of increasing levels of free radicals. Such a general activation is compatible with the diverse nature of observed effects. Free radicals are intermediates in natural processes like mitochondrial metabolism and are also a key feature of phagocytosis. Free radical release is inducible by ionizing radiation or phorbol ester treatment, both leading to genomic instability. EMF might be a stimulus to induce an "activated state" of the cell such as phagocytosis, which then enhances the release of free radicals, in turn leading to genotoxic events. We envisage that EMF exposure can cause both acute and chronic effects that are mediated by increased free radical levels: (1) Direct activation of, for example macrophages (or other cells) by short-term exposure to EMF leads to phagocytosis (or other cell specific responses) and consequently, free radical production. This pathway may be utilized to positively influence certain aspects of the immune response, and could be useful for specific therapeutic applications. (2) EMF-induced macrophage (cell) activation includes direct stimulation of free radical production. (3) An increase in the lifetime of free radicals by EMF leads to persistently elevated free radical concentrations. In general, reactions in which radicals are involved become more frequent, increasing the possibility of DNA damage. (4) Long-term EMF exposure leads to a chronically increased level of free radicals, subsequently causing an inhibition of the effects of the pineal gland hormone melatonin. Taken together, these EMF induced reactions could lead to a higher incidence of DNA damage and therefore, to an increased risk of tumour development. While the effects on melatonin and the extension of the lifetime of radicals can explain the link between EMF exposure and the incidence of for example leukaemia, the two additional mechanisms described here specifically for mouse macrophages, can explain the possible correlation between immune cell system stimulation and EMF exposure.

Now, take a particular attention to the Yariktas study. Because NO, in the air contact, becomes quickly NO2 which is a toxic gas. To my point of view, it is the biggest promoter of asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer. NO create oxidative stress (within others).

Strange? It seems. Because COPD is a recent new disease. On those studies, you'll find more about general pulmonary disease than a real COPD and his relation with EMF.

Look. The first one is: [Progress in the genetics of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] by Keicho N, Matsushita I. They talk about environmental factors & oxidative stress. And smokers. Ya ya ya... Poor smokers. Homo is smoking since he is sapiens. Ha ha ha. All governments, under operators pressure, are prohibiting smoking. Ha ha ha. The reality? Lung & respiratory problems come from cigarette 5%, asbestos 20 - 30 %, diesel motors 40 - 50 %, EMF 90 % because EMF exposition create NO directly in the nose ! 24 ours a day ! ! ! 24 ours a day ! ! ! 24 ours a day ! ! ! 24 ours a day ! ! ! That's my case and the same appear to some friends I know which are exposed to a DECT phone of their neighbor ! I asked Dr Yariktas to repeat his experiment with DECT phone, but I haven't get any answer until now.

On the study nb 159: Mortality of Carpenters' Union members employed in the U.S. construction or wood products industries, 1987-1990. By Robinson CF, Petersen M, Sieber WK, Palu S, Halperin WE. They conclude: This study confirms that construction carpentry is an extremely hazardous trade. The data suggest that additional preventive action guarding against asbestos exposure and occupational injury is urgently needed in this occupation. Philippe ask: what has been done for those guys?

We are in a real bad shape !

There are 44 studies on PubMed with "melatonin emf". I haven't the time to compile them now.

About melatonin pills, I refuse to fill the industry pocket. We have to fight against the cause and stop to elude the problems with pills or other kind of medication and surgery. Furthermore, if somebody is taking medication instead of letting the body doing his job, who can confirm to me that it will not modify the genetics transmissions to new generation? If the body is addict to medication and the brain stop working correctly versus a phenomena, is there not a message transmitted to the DNA that modify the genetics patrimony? Why do we have more and more new kind of sickness, like Charcot-Marie-Tooth, which scientifics qualify of "affection with genetics origin"? The old grandfather had this affection or it is just transmitted by the last one or two generations ?

As far as I know, NO induce the oxidative stress and consequently increase the free radicals. This study shows, regarding the review, that the industry could order a lot of protocol studies that we already know that lead to negative result...

I would like to be helpful resolving and stopping the most catastrophic technology so promoted. My investigations lead me to a mass of studies that bring me crazy. I would need a full time secretary to help me classified them. Scientifics have long time said that there were a race-barrier between animals and humans. Proteins are essential for building blocks (amino acids) genes (DNA – RNA) – body structure – enzymes (chemical protein messengers) – muscles – haemoglobin (for oxygen) – cell membranes (gateways to cells0 etc.

Some essential messages passed around the body are proteins. The EKR/MAPK protein helps make signalling pathways and cell processes. This is normally a controlled release of the EKR/MAPK protein.

For the first time, it has been shown that, below thermal level microwave radiation can cause a cascade (out of sequence) of this protein: i.e. It will flow when it is not required to: or extra proteins will flow. This can cause complications to signalling pathways and cellular mechanisms.

As an example: (conclusion by Barrie Trower)

1. A tumour suppression gene may be disrupted

2. Oncogenes may be stimulated which can lead to cancer

3. Signal structures may change – hence, the body may not be able to function properly (any mechanism e.g. immune system)

4. Cells may not function properly (brain, liver, digestive tract, skin, you name it.

5. Any organ may not function properly (inc blood)


Conclusion

You could almost explain every illness and complication known by disruption of signalling mechanisms and cell cycle timing. A very important discovery, well done to the scientists.

Norfolk doctors want cell tower moved

Area doctors are asking Norfolk Council to have another try at removing Rogers Wireless equipment from the Simcoe water tower.

Council abandoned its efforts to have the equipment relocated last October, after finding out that it would cost at least $316,000 to get out of a long-term lease with Rogers. But a letter from 11 local physicians urges councillors to reopen negotiations with Rogers and have the equipment moved to a “more responsible” location.

“There is an increasing body of evidence linking the radio frequency radiation emitted from cellphone towers to serious health effects, including cancers and childhood leukemia,” says the letter, dated April 2.

“It is impossible at this time to feel comfortable knowing a cellphone tower is located near an elementary school. The levels of exposure on a daily basis for these young people are not consistent with prudent health policy at this time. Action is required to minimize or eliminate the potential risks. Simply put, the tower must be moved away from school children where health and immune systems may be less resistant than an adult’s.”

The letter is signed by Dr. Jeff Tschirhart, former acting medical officer of health for Norfolk, and 10 other doctors in Simcoe, Port Dover and Jarvis.

About 20 people living near the tower, which is close to Elgin Avenue School and Norfolk General Hospital, have complained about symptoms such as nausea, dizziness and headaches since the Rogers antenna was installed last February.

Hardest hit is Dan Currie, who is unable to live in his home, located just below the tower. Currie will be one of several people appearing at tonight’s council session to ask politicians to revisit the issue.

Also throwing his support behind Currie and his neighbours is Brant MP Lloyd St. Amand. He has contacted Industry Canada, which regulates telecommunication towers, asking them to intervene in the situation.

St. Amand acknowledged that the Simcoe tower is meeting Health Canada safety standards. But, like the physicians, he believes more study is needed to rule out a possible health risk.

“I have asked Industry Canada to check and recheck that our standards are not falling behind other jurisdictions,” St. Amand said on Monday. He said many European countries have banned cellphone towers in locations that are close to schools and houses.

“Maybe our standards are substandard, compared to other jurisdictions,” he said. “Let’s have a real careful look at this.”
