Assault at Galloway Motel

I guess......and interesting .."coincindence."

There was gun play at the very (m)otel that Galloway was staying in?

Just something to ponder....or not.

This may be nothing or may have been a botched assasination attempt for Galloway?....You have to admit...He pissed off the neocons but good .....AND....on their own turf....So I sort of "expect" there to be some...."ramifications."

If you see nothing here...please delete it.....I am glad is turned out good for Galloway.

This was one of two articles on this same subject....found on yahoo news.

Assault at Galloway motel

by LYNDA COHEN Staff Writer, (609) 272-7257

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - A call to police about possible gunshots during an altercation at a motel on the White Horse Pike led to a 51/2-hour search and standoff Thursday.

One woman was cut and a second woman eventually arrested and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the fight, which resulted from money the suspect said she was owed, police said.

Officers were called to the Liberty Inn at about 8:30 Thursday morning, and found the victim with a defensive wound to her hand, believed to be from a box cutter recovered at the scene, Chief Keith Spencer said. Police later identified the victim as Jessica Louis, 22, of the Liberty Inn.

Police were initially unsure how many people were involved in the dispute, which began at the Liberty Inn in the Absecon Highlands section of the township. The woman was cut before a gun was discharged, Spencer said.

A car that left the motel before police arrived was stopped about a mile-and-a-half down the road in Absecon. The two men inside were taken in for questioning, but were later released, according to Lt. Joseph Davies.

Later in the day, with the help of surveillance tapes, the investigation determined that the attacker was Crystal Barn, 23, of the nearby Howard Johnson Motel, according to a press release from Galloway police. The release said Barn went to the Liberty Inn and confronted Louis about money that was owed to her. The two got into a fight and Louis was stabbed, police said. Officers searching Barn's room at the Howard Johnson Motel found a .38-caliber automatic handgun, police said.

Barn was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and possession of a firearm without a permit, police said. She was being held at the Atlantic County jail on $25,000 cash bail.

Louis was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus, where she was treated and released, police said. Before Barn's arrest, two men were seen fleeing to the Howard Johnson, just two properties away from the Liberty Inn.

After getting a search warrant, members of the SWAT team searched two Howard Johnson's rooms, where the men were believed to have been staying. No one was found, but police did find the loaded handgun, Spencer said. He could not say whether it had been fired or if shell casings had been recovered at the Liberty Inn.

The sight of police cars, a SWAT team in full dress and officers in bulletproof vests with guns drawn proved too exciting for some to pass up in this usually quiet area.

Several people pulled their cars into Delareto's Nightclub, where media was also gathered, to watch the events unfold across the road. "It's extremely out of the ordinary," Spencer admitted.

While no one was arrested in the incident during the standoff, there was still plenty to see.

A woman in a Liberty Inn room came out with her hands up after talking with a police dispatcher. According to reports, a man had fled into the woman's second-floor room and left out the rear window.

The woman was handcuffed while police spoke to her, then released. Two men and a woman, all of whom appeared to be in their 20s, were under police guard outside the office of the Budget Host Inn, which is between Liberty Inn and Howard Johnson's. One of the men was handcuffed behind his back, then put in the back of a police car. The other man and woman stood together, at times hugging or sitting on the grass as the events unfolded. Eventually, they were allowed to return to their rooms, only to be brought out a while later, handcuffed. They were arrested on outstanding warrants, police said.

The first man was cleared and released. After the officer removed the handcuffs, the man - apparently seeing his bus passing by - took off running down the White Horse Pike. The bus stopped and picked him up.

The investigation was continuing Thursday night.

Human-Animal Hybrids, Mad Cow Cover-up and more...(Organic Bytes #57)

CREATING HUMAN-ANIMAL HYBRIDS

New guidelines set by the National Academies of Sciences would permit the development of human-animal hybrids. The creation of these new species would be allowed for the sake of research. According to the standards, this would be permitted "under circumstances where no other experiment can provide the information needed." The standards also recommend "strong scientific justification" for experiments where human cells are used to develop major aspects of the brain of the new animal. In addition, newly developed human-animal species are not allowed to breed with each other. These standards are voluntary, and human-animal hybrids are already under production. I THINK, THEREFORE I AM... A LAB MOUSE

An ethics committee at Stanford University has approved a proposal to create mice with brains made almost completely of human brain cells. Stanford law professor Hank Greely, who chaired the ethics committee, said the board endorsed this procedure based on the assumption that the animal would probably not experience higher levels of human thought, given the size and shape of the mouse brain. The committee recommended closely monitoring the mice's behavior and immediately killing any that display "human-like behavior," although, admittedly, no one quite knows how an observer would be able to truly distinguish whether or not a lab mouse is thinking and feeling like a human. HUMAN GENES ARE WHAT'S FOR DINNER

Japanese scientists are splicing human genes into rice that will ultimately be grown for human consumption. While some opponents say the concept borders on cannibalism, genetic engineers claim the new rice has environmental benefits. Researchers spliced a gene from a human liver into rice to help the plant "digest" pesticides, thereby allowing the crop to be sprayed with up to 13 different pesticides without damaging the rice. The developers of the new human-rice admit that if this gene were to escape into the wild, a new generation of "superweeds" could be inadvertently created. No testing of the product's impact on human health has yet been conducted. http://www.organicconsumers.org/ge/humangene042505.cfm

USDA COVER-UP OF MAD COW CASES

The USDA has refused to respond to allegations that it has been covering up cases of Mad Cow disease in the U.S. for well over a decade. Lester Friedlander, a former USDA veterinarian, says he was told by USDA officials as far back as 1991 that if his testing laboratory ever found evidence of Mad Cow disease, he was to tell no one. He and other scientists say they know of cases where cows tested positive for the disease in laboratories but were ruled negative by the USDA. Mad cow is a concern to public health because humans can contract a fatal brain illness known as variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease from eating beef products contaminated with the mad cow pathogen. WORLD LEADERS MEET TO BAN 12 PERSISTENT TOXIC CHEMICALS

Government officials from 130 nations are currently meeting in Uruguay to discuss methods of eliminating twelve of the world's most toxic pesticides and chemicals. Specifically, these toxins, such as DDT and PCBs, are referred to as Persistant Organic Pollutants (POPs). They are known to kill people, damage the nervous and immune systems, cause cancer and reproductive disorders, and interfere with normal infant and child development. According to Klaus Toepfer, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, eliminating POPs will be expensive but "will save lives and protect the natural environment - particularly in the poorest communities and countries." http://www.organicconsumers.org/foodsafety/pesticides050405.cfm

MY BOLOGNA HAS A FIRST NAME, IT'S C-A-N-C-E-R

The University of Hawaii has released a new study that shows people who consume processed meats have a 6,700% increased risk of pancreatic cancer over those who consume little or no meat products. The study was done over a period of seven years on nearly 200,000 people. Researchers pin the blame on sodium nitrite, a chemical used in nearly all processed meats, including sausage, hot dogs, jerkies, bacon, lunch meat, and even meats in canned soup products. Although these same meats can be purchased without sodium nitrite, consumers must seek the few products that are labeled as such. The USDA attempted to ban sodium nitrite in the 1970s, but was blocked by the meat industry, which relies heavily on the chemical to add color to processed meats, making them look more appealing. Author and nutritionist Mike Adams said of this and other similar study results, "Sodium nitrite is a dangerous, cancer-causing ingredient that has no place in the human food supply." http://www.organicconsumers.org/foodsafety/processedmeat050305.cfm

TEENY TINY NEWS TIDBITS

The American Heart Association has released a study indicating that the rate of obesity among Americans earning more than $60,000 a year is growing three times faster than the rate among the poor. "Sedentary lifestyles and restaurants are the two big things that affect that group the most," said Marc O'Meara, a dietitian at Brigham and Women's Hospital. "The portion sizes just keep growing." http://www.organicconsumers.org/Toxic/rich-obesity.cfm

Although dreaming of one day being a heavy metal drummer, 15 year old Micah Hinton may be destined for engineering. The high school sophomore has designed a model car that uses a solar panel to create hydrogen fuel out of water. When the car is running, it converts that hydrogen back into ordinary water. As a result, the fuel source is never depleted, and the car never needs a fill-up. "It lasts forever," said Hinton, 15. http://organicconsumers.org/corp/hydrogen.cfm

The OCA has announced the launch of its new international Science Oversight Board (iSOB), that will expand OCA's outreach into the biomedical and public health arena. The iSOB oversight board will investigate and publicize conflicts of interest at academic medical centers and in governmental agencies worldwide. It will focus on the corporatization of medicine and the commodification of human life. http://www.organicconsumers.org/Politics/isob050505.cfm

Tell Interior Secretary Norton to protect Otero Mesa

Earlier this year, the Interior Department approved a plan to open 95 percent of New Mexico's Otero Mesa -- part of our Greater Rockies BioGem -- to oil and gas exploration. In response, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson filed suit on April 22nd against Interior Department Secretary Gale Norton for failing to adequately protect this fragile and irreplaceable wildland.

Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/yellowstone/takeaction.asp
and send a message telling Interior Secretary Norton that you, too, oppose opening Otero Mesa to rampant energy development.

New Mexico's Otero Mesa is home to pronghorn, burrowing owls, the endangered Aplomado falcon, mountain lions and countless other species. Beneath its grasslands lies a freshwater aquifer that is large enough to supply drinking water for New Mexicans for more than a hundred years.

Even though Governor Richardson proposed a plan for protecting the most fragile parts of Otero Mesa, the Interior Department chose instead to give oil and gas companies virtually unlimited access to this special place. The agency's decision also ignored comments submitted by tens of thousands of people from all over the country in support of protecting Otero Mesa.

What's worse, the Interior Department went ahead with its plan even though federal land managers believe there is little chance of finding economically recoverable amounts of oil and gas in the area.

Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/yellowstone/takeaction.asp
right now and urge Interior Secretary Norton not to sacrifice this treasured piece of America's natural heritage.

Thank you for taking action.

Sincerely,

John H. Adams

Budget Conference report still threatens Arctic Refuge

We have just received word that the Budget conference report could begin moving quickly, resulting in a full congressional vote before week's end. As we've reported in the past, the Budget Conference report represents an enormous threat to the Arctic Refuge, because it cannot be blocked with a filibuster by those who believe the Arctic Refuge should be off-limits to drilling.

Whether you've taken action once or even a dozen times before, we urgently need you to call your Representative and Senators today urging them to vote against any budget conference report that includes reconciliation instructions that could lead to Arctic Refuge oil drilling.

Please call your Representative and Senators today.

1. First, call and urge your Representative to vote against any budget conference report that includes reconciliation instructions that could lead to Arctic Refuge oil drilling.

2. Then, do the same thing for Senators. Call and urge them to vote against any budget conference report that includes reconciliation instructions that could lead to Arctic Refuge oil drilling.

You can look up the name and phone numbers of your Members of Congress here: http://ga1.org/wilderness/leg-lookup/search.tcl

Please note: Some Members of Congress have been strong supporters of Arctic Refuge protection and are poised to do the right thing on this vote. We encourage you to see how they have voted on recent Arctic Refuge votes. Thank them if they voted recently to oppose Arctic Refuge oil drilling. Click here for the latest vote in the U.S. House of Representatives: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2005/roll122.xml

Click here for the latest Senate vote:
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=1&vote=00052

When You Call
You'll either be forwarded to a staff member or an answering machine to leave your message. Be sure to state your name and hometown, then your message.

Background

The budget conference report need not say the words "Arctic National Wildlife Refuge" to result in Arctic Refuge drilling. In fact, it is likely that the report will not mention the Refuge by name but will instead contain "reconciliation instructions" to the House Resources and Senate Energy Committees, requiring them to cut their budgets by a specific amount.

Although these open-ended instructions sound harmless, the Committees would be allowed to fulfill the instructions by changing laws to generate new revenue, instead of making actual cuts. Reconciliation instructions would therefore give pro-drilling chairmen of these committees, Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) and Rep. Richard Pombo (R-CA), everything they need to avoid a Senate filibuster over drilling the Arctic Refuge.

A vote for a budget resolution with these open-ended instructions is a vote to drill America's Arctic Refuge, whether or not it mentions the Refuge by name. Unlike the energy bill, the budget resolution cannot be filibustered.

Please call your Senators and Representatives today. Thank you.

Action Still Needed for Arctic Refuge

As Congress shakes its sleepy head and returns to work following spring break, the females of the Porcupine Caribou Herd -- many of them on the verge of giving birth -- are making their way on a perilous journey over flooding rivers and thawing tundra to the Coastal Plain of the Arctic Refuge. Scientists say they have been making this journey for at least 10,000 years.

Why this place? Why do millions of birds -- from eider ducks to snow geese and piping plovers -- also return to the Coastal Plain, year after year, to nest and raise their young?

Scientists explain that this is the best environment for these animals. But I think there's another reason, the same reason that giant sea turtles and salmon return to the places where they were hatched to lay their own eggs; the same reason many of us find a way to attend family reunions large and small no matter the season. It is simply home.

We've created a slideshow of the Arctic Refuge -- a short overview of what you might see now and in coming days on the Coastal Plain. Have a look and then be sure to take action once more:
http://www.wilderness.org/slideshow/arcticrefuge.html

Because no matter what the Oil Industry and its allies in Congress think, there should be no oil rigs in this treasured place. Despite underhanded attempts to sneak this controversial provision into the budget process, we're optimistic that Congress will listen to the American people who overwhelmingly favor protection for this unparalleled place.

Next Up: Politics

The House has not yet selected its delegates to the budget conference committee, although the Senate has appointed its conferees (Click here for a list):
http://ga1.org/campaign/ArctBudgetConf2/explanation

Nevertheless, preliminary meetings are taking place, so this is an ideal time for all conservation-minded Congressmen and Senators to let their leaders know that Arctic drilling has no place in the budget resolution.

Soon the conference committee will thrash over the different versions of the Budget Resolution and then bring their negotiated final to both floors for a vote. That could happen as early as this week.

Even if you've taken action many times before on this issue, we need you to raise your voice again. Please take action now:
http://ga1.org/campaign/ArctBudgetConf2/wd8ks5x4p7w6m6b

Make no mistake. A vote for a budget resolution that includes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, is a vote for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. No exceptions, no excuses.

Members of Congress who have voted to protect the Arctic Wildlife Refuge in the past are under tremendous pressure from the White House and others to vote to pass the final budget resolution. However, they should bear in mind that voting for any resolution that includes Arctic drilling would be seen by their constituents -- you -- as fundamentally reversing their stance on drilling in the Arctic Refuge. You can deliver that message to them, right now, from
http://ga1.org/campaign/ArctBudgetConf2/wd8ks5x4p7w6m6b

Most of us will never get to visit the Arctic Refuge and see the amazing wildlife spectacle that takes place there in the spring and summer. I hope that, for you, it's enough to know it's there and will continue on its grand cycle of birth, life and death for eons more, because of your efforts.

Thank you for all you do as a part of the WildAlert community.

Most sincerely,

Kathy Kilmer
