The reality of this barbaric bombing

07/08/05

It is easy for Tony Blair to call yesterdays bombings 'barbaric' -- of course they were -- but what were the civilian deaths of the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq in 2003, the children torn apart by cluster bombs, the countless innocent Iraqis gunned down at American military checkpoints? When they die, it is 'collateral damage;' when 'we' die, it is 'barbaric terrorism.' If we are fighting insurgency in Iraq, what makes us believe insurgency won't come to us? One thing is certain: if Tony Blair really believes that by 'fighting terrorism' in Iraq we could more efficiently protect Britain -- fight them there rather than let them come here, as Bush constantly says -- this argument is no longer valid...

Collateral damage

07/10/05

Well, apparently, we are at War. That's what we've been told over the last four years anyway: we are at War with Terrorism. Now, most people I know, protested against this 'War.' We didn't want to be a part of it, we didn't want our soldiers to fight it, and we didn't want the politicians that wanted to fight it. We still don't want to be in this 'War.' ... Londoners aren't outraged by Thursday's attacks, but we do now feel a greater solidarity with all those Iraqis whose lives have been destroyed by the Terrorist Politicians on our side. We understand fully now what is meant by Collateral Damage...

Blair put us in the firing line

Amid all the punditry about whether there was an al-Qaida connection to Thursday's attacks on London commuters, it should not be forgotten that the bloody trail of blame leads straight to 10 Downing Street.

The ticking clock: America in Iraq

Wednesday, July 6, 2005 - Page updated at 04:50 PM

The time has come to begin planning an exit from Iraq. We are not wanted there, and we have no legitimate national interest in staying.

Our original war aim, the toppling of Saddam Hussein, has been achieved. It is now apparent that we are not even close to achieving the add-on mission of creating a democratic, law-abiding Iraqi state in which Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds share power.
