(excerpt)

"WORKING PEOPLE YES! WAR NO!

HAVE YOU GOTTEN YOUR BUSES FOR OCT 17 WASHINGTON DC?

Anti-War 4 the Million Worker March
http://antiwar4themillionworkermarch.org

A new website, "Anti-War for the Million Worker March" http://antiwar4themillionworkermarch.org , has just been launched as an organizing tool for the thousands who are planning to go to DC on October 17 to say "Bring the Troops Home Now! Jobs, Healthcare, and Workers' Rights, not War!"

Organizing centers

http://antiwar4themillionworkermarch.org/organizingcenters.htm

are springing up across the country as workers, anti-war activists, students, veterans, and communities of faith answer the call to march on Washington, DC and organize in our own name.

The Growing List of Endorsers includes: Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Jesse Jackson, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, Global Women's Strike, United for Peace & Justice, District Council 37 AFSCME, the United States Green Party, American Postal Workers Union International, and many others.

This historic march and movement needs your help. It is only by organizing in our own name and building our own independent mobilization of working people that we can open the way to addressing our needs and our agenda.

Become an Organizer! We need hundreds of local activists to organize buses and vans. If you are interested in becoming a local organizer, sign up at
http://antiwar4themillionworkermarch.org/organizingcenters.htm.

Help Get the Word Out! Download leaflets from
http://antiwar4themillionworkermarch.org/pdfdownload.htm
and take them to your workplace, union, community center, school, or place of worship.

IMPORTANT BUS PARKING INFORMATION

The Million Worker March is only 4 days away. Momentum is building for this historic event.

Activists and groups: Are you busy e-mailing & phone-banking to "get people on those buses?"

For detailed information, see http://www.antiwar4themillionworkermarch.org

***The Rally

Arrangements have been made with the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police for buses to drop passengers off on Virginia Ave. just North of Constitution Ave. This is in close walking distance to the Lincoln Memorial, 22nd and Constitution Ave. NW.

Bus greeters will be stationed at Virginia Ave. to give information to participants as they arrive. Bus pick up will be at the same location - Virginia Ave off of Constitution.

Buses can park on Virginia Ave on a first come basis and on Ohio Dr. off of Independence Ave., which is on the South side of the Lincoln Memorial.

Volunteers are needed to help greet the buses, set up, security and with a variety of other tasks. There will be a "Volunteers Meeting" on Friday, October 15, 7 P.M. at St. Stephen Church, 1525 Newton St. NW. There will be work sessions throughout Saturday. The Pre-Rally and entertainment will begin at 10:30 am.

The main Rally will begin at 12 noon at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. (The Lincoln Memorial is located between Constitution and Independence Aves. and between 22nd and 23rd St. The closest metro stop is Foggy Bottom on the blue/orange line. The Foggy Bottom exit is at 23rd and I Sts. NW. From the exit walk south on 23rd St.)

Maps, housing information, maps, and other helpful information are available at:

http://antiwar4themillionworkermarch.org/logistics.htm

***Speakers Include:

Actor Danny Glover; entertainer and activist Dick Gregory; Rev. Jesse Jackson; Brenda Stokely, President, AFSCME District Council 1707; Clarence Thomas, co-Chair MWM; Chris Silvera, Teamsters National Black Caucus; Ralph Schoenman, Chair: Communications, MWM; Roger Toussaint, President, Transport Workers Union, Local 100; Donna Dewitt, President South Carolina State Federation of Labor; Mike Hoffman, Co-Founder, Iraqi Veterans Against the War; and more.

***Discussion & Organizing Tents

The main event on Oct. 17 is of course the rally on the steps of the Lincoln monument.

- But there’s more… Oct. 17 will not only be a big rally, but also a genuine opportunity for activists from many different struggles, and many different parts of the country (and the world), to share information and ideas with each other, and talk about strategies to carry our movement forwards.

- In Order to facilitate this process… we will have Discussion & Organizing Tents near the Lincoln Monument on Oct. 17.

- The tents will be situated close enough to be accessible to all who come to the rally, but far enough away so as to not interfere or compete with it.

- Each tent will be issue-based. A partial list of issues includes:

-Workers’ Rights (i.e., organizing, contracts, health/safety issues)
-Anti-War
-Global Women’s issues/the “invisible worker”
-Youth
-Housing
-Reparations (i.e., domestic/international)
-National Health Care For All
-The Corporate Agenda (i.e., free trade agreements, outsourcing, sweatshops)
-International Solidarity (i.e., Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela, Iraq, Palestine, South Africa, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Columbia, The Philippines, Korea etc.)
-Repression, racism, violations of civil liberties, the “Patriot Act”, civil & human rights
-Immigrant Rights
-Quality/Free Education for all
-Criminal Injustice system/political prisoners
-Environmental issues & environmental racism
-Labor Media
-Veterans

***MWM Solidarity With Hotel Workers March

Hotel workers are currently on strike or locked out in San Francisco, on strike in Atlantic City, and preparing to strike in both Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.

Participants in the Million Worker March are invited to participate in a march from the rally to the Hotel Washington, one of the hotels where workers may be on strike soon. The march will take place in the late afternoon, and it is optional for MWM participants as many will want to remain at the main rally, or in the discussion and organizing tents.

Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act (Jones bill/HR 235)

If the Religious Right gets its way, churches will be able to legally endorse candidates and lend support to campaigns just in time for November’s elections.

In a move designed to crush all opposition, House Majority Leader Tom Delay and House Speaker Dennis Hastert have joined with Rep. Walter Jones to attach the Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act (Jones bill/HR 235) to the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 (H.R. 4520). If passed, the Jones bill would go far towards eroding the wall of separation between the institutions of religion and government by reversing IRS tax laws that prohibit houses of worship from engaging in partisan politicking. The American Jobs Creation Act already passed the House and Senate and is in conference committee. By inserting the Jones legislation into this bill during conference committee, Delay and Jones ensure that the House and Senate will never get a chance to vote on the Jones bill, which the House has defeated in various forms twice before.

Bush To Impose Psychiatric Drug Regime

..."The TMAP medication guidelines were established in 1995 as an "expert consensus" based on the opinions of prescribers, rather than an analysis of scientific studies. The pharmaceutical companies who funded the scheme include Janssen Pharmaceutica, Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly, Astrazeneca, Pfizer, Novartis, Janssen-Ortho-McNeil, GlaxoSmithKline, Abbott, Bristol Myers Squibb, Wyeth-Ayerst and Forrest Laboratories.

The drugs recommended as "first line treatment", many of them with potentially deadly side effects, are patented expensive drugs produced by the sponsors of the guidelines: Risperdal, Zyprexa, Seroqual, Geodone, Depakote, Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa, Wellbutron, Zyban, Remeron, Serzone, Effexor, Buspar, Adderall and Prozac...."

"TMAP was extended to cover children, again by "expert consensus", and no doubt the Bush program for widespread testing in schools all over the US will find hundreds of thousands if not millions of new "customers" for the dangerous psychiatric drugs the scheme promotes."

Most importantly, FORWARD THIS PETITION to others on your list and ask them to do the same

In gratitude,

Bush Administration Cedes Comment Period Extension

Let's Get A Million Comments In for Roadless Protection

Comment Packet and National Events

The Bush administration has extended the comment period on the new Roadless Rule to November 15, 2004! We have set an ambitious goal of 1 million comments in order to send a clear and powerful message that we will not tolerate the Bush administration giving our National Forests away to the timber, mining and oil industries. Keep writing to help reach this goal!!!

Please go to the
http://www.americanlands.org/issues.php?subsubNo=1085518143&article=1092416869
American Lands Roadless Comment Drive Organizing Action Tool-Kit to view sample comment letters, sample letters to the editor, a sample editorial board memo, an analysis of the new Bush roadless rule and a link to the new rule. We need to keep the pressure on the administration by generating more comments and media attention on the new Roadless Rule.

On September 14, 2004 there are going to be a number of events across the country in order to demonstrate that the American public resoundingly rejects the Bush administration's efforts to repeal the 2001 Roadless Rule. If you haven't already linked into these activities (information below) please consider doing so. If you are not participating in a local event in your area consider writing a letter to the editor on September 14, 2004 expressing your disappointment with the Bush administration for attempting to repeal the Roadless Rule.

The extension of the comment period past the national election is a clear indication that the roadless issue has become a problem for the Bush administration. On September 14th events are being organized in DC and around the country to continue to call attention to the Bush administration's plan to log our remaining roadless wild forests. Groups are encouraged to participate in events that are already being planned as well as organize other press events or rallies to demonstrate broad public support for roadless area protection, calling attention to your states' contribution to the goal of 1 million comments.

Events are being planned in the following states: AZ, TX, WV, TN, FL, NM, NV, NH, ME, PA, IL, MI, MN, AR, NC, ID, CO, OR, WA, WI, NJ, CA, LA, VA, AK.

Protect Yellowstone and the Greater Rockies

The administration has just announced a new proposal that would more than double the number of noisy, polluting snowmobiles careening through Yellowstone National Park over the next three years.

The National Park Service has already warned that so many snowmobiles would harass the park's wildlife, threaten visitors and employees with cancer-causing chemicals and cause so much noise that people should wear earplugs inside the park.

Please go to
http://www.savebiogems.org/yellowstone/takeaction.asp?step=2&item=52259
right now and send a message telling the Park Service to keep polluting snowmobiles out of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks.

Last winter, tens of thousands of snowmobiles descended on Yellowstone, producing more pollution in a single weekend than all the cars in the park produce during a full year. It's been nearly four years since the Park Service called for replacing the destructive machines with park-friendly snowcoaches.

And the overwhelming majority of citizen comments have supported that phase-out of snowmobiles.

But the administration has caved in to pressure from the snowmobile industry and now plans to increase dramatically the size of the annual snowmobile invasion.

Our national parks belong to the American people, not to the snowmobile industry. Please go to
http://www.savebiogems.org/yellowstone/takeaction.asp?step=2&item=52259
and tell the Park Service to obey the will of the people and protect Yellowstone from snowmobiles.

The Park Service is taking public comments only until September 20th so please send your message today!

Just Say NO to Prozac for Children.

SSRI's: Fathoming the Unfathomable; Comprehending the Incomprehensible. Killing children for money. Blindsiding the public and under our noses. How can this be really true? It is. Read the research archived at this site. There is no uglier truth. Just ask the "experts" for safety and efficacy reports of the 'drugs' they are dispensing - they won't have any.

Clinical trials have shown 87% of participants to respond to placebos, leaving only 13% needing 'help'. WHY have we been exposed to this onslaught of lethal and toxic antidepressants?

SSRI's are highly addictive and cause severe withdrawal, commonly mistaken for relapse. Withdrawal side-effects can include drug- induced psychosis, suicidality, violence and loss of conscious behavior.

Approximately 7-10% of the Caucasian population cannot metabolize SSRI's and end up in a psychotic state, awakening in a jail or mental hospital - a common side-effect (ie: Andrea Yates). There is no more mystery to the cause of new designer violence.

40% of incoming college freshman are on psychotropic drugs; 1MM Texas schoolchildren are on Ritalin; The suicide rate for those without medication is 11 per 100,000; The rate for suicide for those on SSRI antidepressants is 752 per 100,000 - or an increase of 750% since Prozac-type drugs were introduced.

These facts are well-documented.
