Killings of civilians by U.S. troops angers Iraqi government

"The reason they shot us is just because the Americans are reckless," the general said from his hospital bed hours after the July 6 shooting, his head wrapped in a white bandage. "Nobody punishes them or blames them."

Iraq statistics tell grim story

If the US Army and its Iraqi allies are killing as many insurgents as reports indicate they are per month, why is the insurgency intensifying instead of collapsing?

Bizarro Iraq

AntiWar.Com
by Justin Raimondo

08/07/05

In 'liberated' Iraq, the police are the criminals: instead of protecting people from harm by thugs, they are the thugs who inflict harm on others. It's a Bizarro World rendition of law enforcement, albeit one that perfectly fits in to the upside-down logic -- not to mention the inverted morality -- of those who brought us this war. ... In spite of his political naiveté, [slain reporter Steven] Vincent had the courage to name the murderers who had inherited the fruits of American 'victory' in Iraq -- and he paid the ultimate price. So did Cindy Sheehan's boy, along with 1,800-plus other American soldiers, and Mrs. Sheehan and her Gold Star Mothers for Peace want to know what friends and supporters of Steve Vincent are no doubt curious about: What exactly is the rationale for our continued presence in Iraq?
