UMTS – Stadt lässt sich von Betreibern über den Tisch ziehen

Gesundheitsschutz kein Thema

Bürgerinitiativen lehnen Rolle als Feigenblatt ab

Heute fand auf Einladung der Stadt Salzburg ein Workshop zum geplanten UMTS-Netzausbau statt. Eingeladen dazu waren VertreterInnen der Mobilfunkbetreiber, der Stadtpolitik, der Stadt- und Landesverwaltung sowie der Salzburger Bürgerinitiativen zum Schutz vor Mobilfunksendeanlagen.

Ziel dieser ersten Veranstaltung war ein von der Stadt gemeinsam mit den Mobilfunkbetreibern vorbereitetes Papier zu verabschieden, dessen Inhalt im Wesentlichen folgendermaßen aussieht:

Die Beteiligten verpflichten sich unter Ausschluss von Gesundheits- und Grenzwertdiskussionen den geplanten UMTS-Netzausbau zu unterstützen und mit zu gestalten. Dabei bietet die Stadt Salzburg auch ihre Immobilien für Standortoptimierung an.

Über den Inhalt der ausdrücklich nicht öffentlichen Sitzungen sollte Stillschweigen bewahrt werden.

Zur Überraschung der Bürgerinitiativenvertreter, die der Meinung waren, sie wären eingeladen worden, um berechtigte Bedenken und Forderung bezüglich des vorsorgenden Gesundheitsschutzes einbringen zu können, sollte dieses Thema vollständig ausgeklammert werden.

Die Vertreter der BürgerInnen erklärten für Gespräche dann zur Verfügung zu stehen, wenn alle Daten der bereits bestehenden GSM-Anlagen in Stadt und Land Salzburg an die Gemeinden und die Landesregierung bekannt gegeben werden. Weiters muss die Strahlungsbelastung des bestehenden Mobilfunknetzes auf den empfohlenen Salzburger Vorsorgewert reduziert werden.

Diese berechtigten Forderungen wurden erhoben, weil das geplante UMTS-Netz ein zusätzliches Gesundheitsrisiko bedeutet.

Nachdem diese Forderungen von Mobilfunkbetreibern und Politik rigoros abgelehnt wurden, sehen die Bürgerinitiativen keine sinnvolle Basis in diesem Gremium.

Die Bürgerinitiativen verwehren sich massiv gegen diese Art von „Bürgerbeteiligung“ und lassen sich nicht als Feigenblatt missbrauchen.

Arrangements have been made with the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police for buses to drop passengers off on Virginia Ave. just North of Constitution Ave. This is in close walking distance to the Lincoln Memorial, 22nd and Constitution Ave. NW.

Bus greeters will be stationed at Virginia Ave. to give information to participants as they arrive. Bus pick up will be at the same location - Virginia Ave off of Constitution.

Buses can park on Virginia Ave on a first come basis and on Ohio Dr. off of Independence Ave., which is on the South side of the Lincoln Memorial.

Volunteers are needed to help greet the buses, set up, security and with a variety of other tasks. There will be a "Volunteers Meeting" on Friday, October 15, 7 P.M. at St. Stephen Church, 1525 Newton St. NW. There will be work sessions throughout Saturday. The Pre-Rally and entertainment will begin at 10:30 am.

The main Rally will begin at 12 noon at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. (The Lincoln Memorial is located between Constitution and Independence Aves. and between 22nd and 23rd St. The closest metro stop is Foggy Bottom on the blue/orange line. Instead of examining why we went to war with a country that posed no threat to us, the agenda was replete with rhetoric about fighting the terrorists in Iraq so we wouldn't have to fight them here. Press Release - Guardian Poll

Today’s latest opinion poll for the Guardian, which shows that 71% of the British people are calling a date for the withdrawal of UK Troops from Iraq, is a vindication of the two-year campaign waged by The Stop The War Coalition for the end of the illegal occupation of Iraq. It is now beyond question that the Tony Blair and George Bush do not have the support of the people for their actions.

On the 17th October, Stop The War, with The Muslim Association of Britain and CND will be holding a mass demonstration calling for an end to the war and a withdrawal of troops.

Supported by the 20,000 people who will be attending the European Social Forum taking place at Alexandra Palace at the same time, this will be the largest Anti war demonstration in London in 2004 and will show that the will of the people to end, what Kofi Annan has described as an illegal war, remains as strong as ever.

NB: The route of the march has been agreed by the police. It will begin at Russell Square and end at Trafalgar Square going via the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street.

At the rally at the end of the march there will be musical performances from Peter Docherty, previously from the Libertines, The Asian Dub Foundation and Massive Attack.

Worried About Radiation, Parents Urge Fairfax Schools to Drop Cash Cow

Diana Barbera, a filmmaker and mother of four, turned to the Internet when she heard that Fairfax County school officials wanted to put a towering pole of wireless phone antennas at the middle school two of her children attend.

Barbera, 38, of Clifton learned that the federal government says that people near such poles encounter low levels of radio-frequency radiation but that they would have to be next to the antennas -- usually about 100 feet in the air -- to be exposed to potentially dangerous levels. She also read that some scientists question whether long-term exposure also may be harmful to people on the ground.

The way Barbera sees it, the mere possibility is reason enough to ban placement of the antennas near schools. With another Fairfax parent, Karl Polzer of Falls Church, she began speaking out against proposed cellular antenna poles before the School Board. "People are so cautious about their kids. We buckle them up and strap bike helmets on, but there's no way I can protect them from this," Barbera said. "In 20 or 30 years, if we find out this stuff is harmful, it's too late. I'd rather err on the side of caution."

As cell phones increasingly become routine, the towers and poles that hold the antennas needed to send cellular signals are popping up next to fire stations, on the roofs of government buildings and in church steeples.

Fairfax County schools have installed poles with cell phone antennas at six schools and one administrative building, officials said. There are plans to add them at several additional schools. In most cases, the poles double as light posts at football fields.

With each telephone carrier paying to rent the space, the towers are an easy moneymaker for nonprofits. Fairfax schools receive an initial $25,000 payment for each new pole and $5,000 each time another cellular phone company adds an antenna to a pole. The companies also pay about $2,000 in rent each month, which is split between the school system and Milestone Communications, the Reston-based company that manages the contracts for the schools.

Montgomery County schools have poles at one high school and one middle school. In Prince William County, there are cellular poles at two high schools.

Officials at the Federal Communications Commission said research has shown that it is safe to live or work in the shadow of a wireless phone antenna, provided the structure meets federal standards. Bruce Romano, associate chief at the FCC's office of engineering and technology, said government experts keep up with the latest research, adding, "We haven't seen anything that raises any concerns."

John E. Moulder, director of radiation biology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, agrees. Moulder said that on a daily basis, people come into contact with energy from television and radio broadcasting, emergency communications systems and tiny amounts from sources such as microwave ovens and garage door openers.

In his opinion, the low levels of energy around cellular towers pose no risk. "There is no reason . . . to expect that fields that low would have any impact at all," said Moulder, who added that there is a tower near his home.

But there is debate in the scientific community about whether enough is known to proclaim cell towers safe. Last month, the International Association of Fire Fighters, a union representing firefighters in the United States and Canada, agreed to seek funding to study the issue and voted to stop adding towers until that work is completed.

In a letter supporting Polzer and Barbera, Henry Lai, a University of Washington bioengineering professor, acknowledged that the level of radiation around a cellular tower is "typically very low" and "generally considered to be harmless."

But Lai, who studies the effects of radiation, said not enough research had been done on prolonged exposure, particularly on children, who can be more sensitive to environmental factors. He said some research indicates that people who live near towers suffer from headaches and learning problems.

Lai said it's common sense to keep the poles away from schools or day-care centers until more is known. "I'm not saying there's definitely harm," Lai said. "I'm saying there's a possibility."

Gunnar Heuser, a California physician, said that his examination recently of six firefighters who worked at stations with cell towers found that they had some brain impairments. The firefighters had trouble sleeping, headaches and trouble with their balance, he said.

Heuser acknowledges that no conclusions can be made from his work because he looked at only six people, and all of them could have been exposed to other hazards at work. But he said he is seeking funding for further testing.

Fairfax County school officials said environmental experts with the school system make a point of keeping up with the latest research and are confident that the towers are safe.

Polzer and Barbera said they expect to come before the School Board again and will visit with PTAs and community associations.

James B. Burch, a Colorado State University professor who teaches environmental and occupational epidemiology, said that he is not certain that the antennas can harm people who are near them for a long time but that he would not want his children to attend a school that had a cellular pole.

"I don't think it's clear at all," Burch said. "People call and say, 'They are building a cell tower in my neighborhood. Is there any effect?' I tell them I can't say for sure if there is a hazard. Nobody really knows."

Last week I wrote about a presidential initiative called the “New Freedom Commission on Mental Health,” which issued a report calling for the mandatory mental health screening of American schoolchildren. This new proposal threatens to force millions of kids to undergo psychiatric screening, whether their parents consent or not. At issue is the fundamental right of parents to decide what medical treatment is appropriate for their children.

I introduced an amendment to eliminate any funding for the proposal in a Department of Education and Department of Health and Human Services spending bill. Although the amendment failed, the response to my office has been overwhelming and highly supportive. The notion of federal bureaucrats ordering potentially millions of youngsters to take psychotropic drugs like Ritalin strikes an emotional chord with American parents, who are sick of relinquishing more and more parental control to government.

Some members of Congress objected to my amendment on the grounds that the federal screening program does not yet exist, so it’s premature to oppose it. But the whole point was to prevent the proposal from being implemented in the first place. Once created, federal programs are nearly impossible to eliminate. Congress had a rare opportunity to stop a bad idea in its tracks, before it becomes entrenched. Every member who opposes the idea of forcing kids to undergo mental health screening should have sent a strong statement by voting for my amendment. They will have another chance to kill the initiative when I introduce a stand-alone bill later this year.

Furthermore, it’s not true that no money has been allocated for the proposal. The Appropriations committee, which distributes your tax dollars to the various federal agencies, specifically allotted $20 million in the HHS/Education bill for state programs in support of the New Freedom commission report. These federally-funded state programs will be the precursors of the broader federal program recommended by the commission.

Anyone who understands bureaucracies knows they assume more and more power incrementally. A few scattered state programs over time will be replaced by a federal program implemented in a few select cities. Once the limited federal program is accepted, it will be expanded nationwide. Once in place throughout the country, the screening program will become mandatory. This is why we can never trust new bureaucratic programs: no matter how benevolent their proponents claim them to be, most programs morph into something much larger than originally foreseen. Those who view my concerns as alarmism fail to understand the inevitable nature of bureaucratic growth.

Soviet communists attempted to paint all opposition to the state as mental illness. It now seems our own federal government wants to create a therapeutic nanny state, beginning with schoolchildren. It’s not hard to imagine a time 20 or 30 years from now when government psychiatrists stigmatize children whose religious, social, or political values do not comport with those of the politically correct, secular state.

American parents must do everything they can to remain responsible for their children’s well-being. If we allow government to become intimately involved with our children’s minds and bodies, we will have lost the final vestiges of parental authority. Strong families are the last line of defense against an overreaching bureaucratic state.

"Solche Schwingungen können aus bauphysikalischer Sicht das Gefüge von quarzhaltigen Steinen nachhaltig stören", protestierte der Professor für Biophysik, Eike Hensch, in einem offenen Brief an die Kirchenvertreter. Antennen technischer Kommunikationsanlagen in Kirchenbauten

Vermehrt wird beobachtet, dass in Kirchenbauten Antennen der Telekommunikation montiert werden, was vielen Bürgern mit Recht Sorgen bereitet.

Dazu ist aus bauphysikalischer Sicht zu sagen:

Langfristig können die technisch erzeugten Schwingungen - auch bei geringsten Intensitäten unterhalb der Grenzwerte - das natürliche Gefüge quarzhaltiger Steine (Sandstein, Granit etc.) nachhaltig stören. Obwohl die Luftverschmutzung in den letzten Jahren stark zurückgegangen ist, zerfallen unsere historischen Kirchenbauten derzeitig rapide. Quarze geraten durch die unharmonische Fremdeinwirkung dieser Sendesysteme in Schwingungen und das mikroskopisch feine Gefüge und damit die Gesamtfestigkeit des Steins leidet.

Aus biokybernetischer Sicht:

Im Hinblick auf den Menschen und andere biologische Systeme haben die ausgestrahlten Frequenzen im Sinne der Regulation u.U. negativen Charakter, besonders im schwachenergetischen Bereich, weil nicht Quantität sondern Resonanzfähigkeit entscheidend ist.

Die behördlich festgelegten Grenzwerte entsprechen nicht den neueren wissenschaftlichen Forschungsergebnissen, da sie nur die thermischen Effekte berücksichtigen. Langzeitstudien liegen nicht vor. Kurzzeitstudien haben bereits negative Auswirkungen ergeben.

In diesem Zusammenhang muss möglicherweise auch die Haftungsfrage angesprochen werden, wenn Menschen, Insbesondere schwangere Frauen, die Kirchenräume besuchen in denen ohne sachliche wissenschaftliche Prüfung Signale aus dem Nahbereich funktechnischer Anlagen erzeugt werden und diese die Gläubigen biokybernetisch beeinflussen, ohne dass sie es wissen.

Alte Kirchengemäuer sind regelmäßige Brutplätze für z.T. seltene Wildvögel. Über hohe Unfruchtbarkeit- und Missbildungsraten in der Nähe derartiger Mobilfunkanlagen bei Wild- und Zuchttieren wird diskutiert.

Aus theologischer Steht ist zu sagen:

Unsere Kirchen sind Orte des Heils („heilige Orte“). Das Wirkprinzip dieser Innenräume ist durch terrestrische, natürliche Schwingungen mit positivierendem Charakter geprägt. Dies gehört zu den Standortbedingungen des historischen und neuzeitlichen Kirchenbaus im gesamten Europa aber auch bei Heiligtümern andernorts.

Das Innere der Kirchenbauten mit ihren vielfältigen resonanzfähigen Details sollte nicht in unharmonischem Sinne gestört werden. Das tritt aber ein, wenn im Turmbauwerk technisch erzeugte Hochfrequenz-Schwingungen das Gesamtsystem überlagern. Es führt zu biokybernetischen Interferenzen und Fremdeinwirkungen, die der sich durch das Zusammenspiel von Raum, Wort und Musik ergebenden Gestalt das Gottesdienstes zuwider sind.

Nachdem durch E. Cassierer und S. Langer das Symbol als unumgänglicher Ausdruck menschlichen Lebens restituiert wurde, ist es unverständlich, dass die Symbolqualität des Kirchengebäudes durch kommerzielle Rationalisierung einbezogen wird. Der Kirchturm ist nicht Objekt geeigneter Mobilvernetzung der Erde, sondern Symbol der Ausrichtung menschlichen Lebens auf denjenigen Himmel, von dem im Vaterunser die Rede ist. Dieser Zusammenhang des Gebetes der Gemeinde in der Kirche mit dem Turm im Außenbereich, liturgisch regelmäßig durch das Läuten der Gebetsglocke beim Vaterunser hergestellt, wird nun der Ökonomisierung wegen zerrissen. Wäre es da nicht noch ökonomischer, die teuren Kirchtürme überhaupt zu beseitigen? Was anderes, wenn nicht diese Symbolfunktion, rechtfertigt den Aufwand eines Kirchturmes?

Aus rechtlicher Sicht:

Bedenken Sie, dass unsere überkommenen Kirchenbauten Denkmäler darstellen und einer - auch im theologischen Sinne - behutsamen Behandlung bedürfen. Das hat viel mit Schwingungen zu tun, auf die ich hier im einzelnen nicht eingehen kann. Wird in einem theologisch geprägten und dafür vorgesehnen Gotteshaus Gewerbe betrieben - eine Antennenanlage ist eine technische Anlage der Kommunikationsindustrie - können sich rechtliche Konsequenzen nicht verhindern lassen.

Mobilfunk-Sendeantennenanlagen sind nach zeitgemäßen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen nicht ohne Gefahr für den Menschen. Dar Betreiber haftet dafür. Die Verwalter jeden Gotteshauses haben sich frühzeitig selbst zu informieren und haften bei Fehlern persönlich.

This did not happen in the case of the recent Iraq invasion, since the United States and Great Britain, led by the U.S. Secretary of State Powell, withdrew on March 17, 2003 their resolution to stage such an invasion from consideration by the UN Security Council when they realized that the majority of its members would vote against it. Instead, Powell and others insisted that this approval was unnecessary, since UN Resolutions 687 and 1441 (the latter of 8 November 2002) had already granted this right. However, this is simply not true. As demonstrated by a close examination of the UN Charter and these particular resolutions, there is no possible interpretation that preempts the need for a final decision by the Security Council. Because the U.S. and U.K. withdrew their resolution, there could be no decision permitting an invasion. As a result, the invasion of Iraq was illegal, and those who brought it about can be held responsible for war crimes by an impartial international tribunal, for example the International Criminal Court (ICC)....

Mobilfunk-Strahlenschäden.

Es sind sehr reale und z.T. schwere Gesundheitsschäden von uns in der Praxis seit Jahren zu beobachten. Das mag sich nicht bis nach Aachen herumgesprochen haben, und wenn Herr Jiri Silny nichts zu ermitteln vermag, dann spricht das nicht für ihn und sein sog. "Forschungszentrum" (die Industrie "forscht" immer dann in "Zentren", wenn es brenzlig wird).

Wir haben schon seit geraumer Zeit an die Bundesanstalt für Strahlenschutz und an das ehem. BGVV unsere Erfahrungen gemeldet, und diese widersprechen Herrn Jiri Silny außerordentlich.

So war das immer schon, aber beim Holzschutzmittel PCP haben wir (nach Jahren) schlußendlich vor dem Landgericht obsiegt (1994).

Ich lege meinen letzten Brief an das Bundesamt zur Erläuterung bei.

Antwort auf mein Schreiben an das BGVV (15.Juni 02) und an das BMU (04.Juli 02)

(Meldung von pseudo-toxischen Schädigungen / Verletzungen nach § 16e Abs.2 des Chemikaliengesetzes, verursacht durch gefährliche gepulste Hochfrequenz)

Sehr geehrter Herr Dr. Weiss,

ich danke Ihnen, daß Sie sich die Mühe und Zeit genommen haben, um mir die Vorstellungen des Bundesamtes zur Problematik der gesundheitlichen Schäden durch Funksendeanlagen zu schildern.

Ich muß Ihnen allerdings vehement widersprechen: die Pathogenese und natürlich auch die Kausalität (Ätiologie) (s.Anl.1) dieser Art Strahlenbelastungen ist in der Schulmedizin seit Jahrzehnten bekannt, bobachtet, beschrieben und anerkannt.

Ich schätze die Wissenschaft und verabscheue jede Pseudowissenschaft.

Es ist mir immer wieder eine Genugtuung, auch bei zunächst unerklärlichen Symptomen des Rätsels Lösung immer irgendwo in unseren Lehrbüchern zu finden. Allein die zahllosen Berichte von Patienten und Patientinnen über Migräne bei "schnurlosen Telefonen" müssten jedem Arzt den Weg weisen, insofern er weiß, was Migräne ist.

Vulnerable Patienten-Gruppen, die diese Einwirkungen spüren und berichten, leiden unter der erworbenen Disposition einer hochgradigen erworbenen Intoleranz, was sich klinisch als spez. Vaskulitis und Kollagenose (und spez.Amyloidose(!) äußert. Diese chron. Erkrankung entspricht einer organischen Erkrankung vom Schweregrad einer latenten Herzinsuffizienz, die zur Dekompensation neigt (i.S. einer Prä-Vaskulitis).

Wir sollten in diesem Zusammenhang mit der (jahrzehntelangen) pseudo-wissenschaftlichen Hypothese von den "psychischen Ursachen" (insbesondere bei diesen Geschichten) endlich aufhören bzw. aufräumen. Insofern stimme ich dem »Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Gesundheit« voll zu.

Jede Erkrankung ist ein "polyätiologisches Geschehen". Das ist eine Binsenwahrheit und muß hier nicht diskutiert werden. Wenn allerdings ein unerfahrener Kollege angesichts eines akuten Herzinfarktes oder Schlaganfalles zu recherchieren anfinge, welche Differentialdiagnosen infrage kämen, würde man ihn schleunigst in die theoretischen Fächer abschieben. Und die Bedeutung seltener und schwieriger Krankheiten liegt darin, daß man sie nicht suchen kann. Man muß sie kennen, sonst wird die Diagnose hoffnungslos.

Grenzwerte

Besonders bemerkenswert hierbei ist wiederum, dass kein Schwellenwert für die Wirksamkeit der o.g. Strahlung angegeben werden kann. Wir wissen aus der angewandten klinischen Immunologie seit vielen Jahren, daß vulnerable Patienten-Gruppen auf inhalative Schadstoffe bereits bei und unter Attogramm (10-18) Gesundheitsschäden erleiden.

Für irreversible Schadwirkungen (ionisierende und nicht-ionisierende Strahlungen, PM<2.5 Feinststäube oder Chemikalien mit (auto-)immunologischen, mutagenen und kanzerogenen Effekten) lassen sich Wirkungsschwellen nicht definieren.

Alle Schwellen- und Grenzwerte hierbei basieren, das ist unstrittig, auf Kompromissen zwischen Machbarem und Wünschbarem - und auf sehr fragwürdigen Kompromissen zwischen Geschäft und Gesundheit (s.Anl.2).

Grenzwerte können wir allenfalls als Maß für die individuelle Toleranz anwenden. Grenzwerte waren seit jeher Hypothese und Theorie. Alle und jeder Theorie zugrunde liegenden Begriffe und Grundgesetze aber sind freie Erfindungen des menschlichen Geistes. (Selbst die Sätze der Mathematik, insofern sie sich auf die Wirklichkeit beziehen, sind nicht sicher, und sofern sie sicher sind, beziehen sie sich nicht auf die Wirklichkeit).

Allein die gesammelte klinische Erfahrung entspricht der Realität, und diese langjährige ärztliche Erfahrung beschreibt die Problematik aller dieser o.g. Strahlenbelastungen schon seit langem, und zwar detailliert:

Erhöhte Plasma-viskosität(!), Veränderungen bei den Erythrozyten und Leukozyten, Endothelschäden(!), erhöhte Blutgerinnung(!), erhöhte Komplement-Titer, erhöhtes Histamin(!), Vaskulitis(!), Hyperämie und Vasospasmen(!), Hypoxie und Ischämie(!), (d.h. spez.Autoimmunkrankheit und spez.Amyloidosen) Symptome: Kopfschmerz, Schwindel, Sehstörungen, Ataxie, Krampfanfälle, extreme Müdigkeit, Lethargie bis Koma etc. Herzsymptome und -beschwerden, Atembeschwerden und Nierensymptome - bis hin zu Schock oder schockähnlichen Fragmenten (= Nichtinfektiöses Toxic-Shock-Syndrom).

Bezüglich der Physik berufe ich mich auf Tübinger Physiker, die ebenfalls ganz andere Erfahrungen aus ihrem Bereich diesbezüglich berichten (Matthes Haug, Spezialgebiet »Untersuchungen von elektromagnetischer Strahlung auf biologische Systeme«: "Eindeutige Ergebnisse von Gesundheitsgefahren" / Febr.2002: "Allgemeinsymptome wie Kopfschmerzen, Schwindelgefühl, Tinnitus, Mattigkeit, Angespanntheit, Herzjagen sind nach meinen Erfahrungen unter anderem eindeutig auf Mikrowellenstrahlung, also Mobilfunk, zurückzuführen. Blutbildveränderungen (Blutplättchenverklebung) können ebenfalls auftreten."

Sind Strahlungen demnach für die o.g. Vulnerabilität (primär) verantwortlich bzw. ursächlich ??

Auch der Präsident des BfS schreibt Kontroverses zu dem Thema: "Manchmal wird der Vorwurf erhoben, die Forderung nach Vorsorge im Bereich des Mobilfunks sei populistisch und hätte nichts mit dem wissenschaftlichen Kenntnisstand zu tun. Derartige Äußerungen scheinen interessengeleitet zu sein. Entscheidend ist, dass es bei der Bewertung des wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisstandes eben nicht ausreicht, nur zwischen "wissenschaftlich nachgewiesen" oder "nicht nachgewiesen" zu unterscheiden. Vielmehr müssen auch wissenschaftliche Hinweise und Verdachtsmomente berücksichtigt werden. Die nüchterne Bewertung des Erkenntnisstandes zeigt, dass wissenschaftliche Hinweise auf mögliche Risiken tatsächlich bestehen. Ein "Nicht-Sehen-Wollen" bzw. das "Wegdiskutieren" dieser Erkenntnisse mag kurzfristig vielleicht helfen - langfristig wird es nicht zur Akzeptanz der technischen Infrastruktur beitragen. Ich fordere das Bundesamt auf, Grenzwerte und Zulassung diesbezüglich zu überprüfen und zu korrigieren.

mit der Notiz "Schnurlos verbunden" in der "Apotheken Umschau" vom 1.9.2004 zeigen Sie dem Leser, der bisher bestens ohne Handy gelebt hat, dass er "old-fashioned" und das schlägt dem Fass den Boden aus nicht "in" ist, da er noch immer einen Festnetzanschluss besitzt! Dazu noch das Bild einer jungen Frau, die freudestrahlend mit dem Handy telefoniert! Wer kann dieser Art der Werbung schon widerstehen?

Angesichts steigender Zahlen von jungen Männern mit Hodenkrebs fordern die Ärzte einen entsprechenden Gesundheitscheck bei der Bundeswehr-Musterung. Diese Tumorart sei bei Männern zwischen 18 und 35 Jahren die häufigste Krebserkrankung, hieß es gestern im Vorfeld eines Fach-Kongresses." Die Ursache für diese Krebshäufung ist doch sicher, dass die jungen Männer ihr Handy dauernd in der Tasche oder am Gürtel haben. Die Geschlechtsorgane bekommen so die volle Sendeleistung ab.

Omega interessant hierzu auch u.a. zum Thema Spermienmotilität:

In Laboruntersuchungen bei denen der Einfluss elektromagnetischer Wellen auf die Spermienmotilität (Beweglichkeit / Vitalität von Spermien) untersucht wurden, konnte eine deutliche Abnahme der Spermienmotilität beobachtet werden. [M. Davoudi, C. Brössner, W. Kuber]

Andererseits wissen wir aus medizinischen Untersuchungen von jungen Männern, dass die Qualität der Spermien alarmierend abnimmt. Das Vorhaben die Spermien aller Rekruten der Schweizer Armee zu untersuchen wurde dann allerdings vom Vorsteher des VBS nicht genehmigt.

Überfordert, gemobbt, ausgebrannt! - Worte wie diese fallen am häufigsten, wenn man Lehrerinnen oder Lehrer bittet, über sich und ihren Beruf zu erzählen. Vom einstigen Traumberuf mit gesicherter Existenz, hohem Prestige, reichlich Ferien und vermeintlich viel Freizeit ist nicht mehr viel übrig. Dabei sollte Schule doch Spaß machen, wie Unterrichtsministerin Mady Delvaux-Stehres es erst vergangene Woche bei der "Rentrée " unterstrichen hat. Sie sollte allen Spaß machen, insbesondere jenen, die in der viel gepriesenen Schulpartnerschaft, einer Kooperation von Lehrern, Eltern und Schülern zusammengeschlossen sind. Erstere gehen jedoch durchwegs leer aus.

Nicht umsonst geben viele Lehrer zu, dass der große Enthusiasmus aus ihrer Anfangszeit verflogen und eine gewisse Ernüchterung eingetreten ist. Lehrer müssen leider einsehen , dass viele Ideale, die sie einst hatten, im Schulalltag einfach nicht (mehr) zu verwirklichen sind.

Die Schule im Kreuzfeuer der Kritik: Hilflose Lehrer, die sich nur durch Repressalien zu wehren wissen. Gewaltbereite Schüler, die nur das Ziel haben, ihre Lehrer "fertig zu machen". Und unfähige Eltern, die durch lasche Erziehung ihre Kinder völlig verdorben haben. So jedenfalls stellen die Kritiker die Situation dar. Erschwerend hinzu kommt , dass seitdem ein paar vorlaute und exponierte Persönlichkeiten es in feucht fröhlicher Laune denn tatsächlich gewagt haben, luxemburgische Lehrer als "faule Säcke" zu bezeichnen, ein unerschöpfliches und reizvolles Stammtischthema salonfähig geworden ist. Dabei ist es ziemlich sicher, dass keiner der vielen Lehrerkritiker es auch nur einen Vormittag in einer "normalen" luxemburgischen Vor- oder Primärschulklasse aushalten würde. Die Lehrerinnen und Lehrer sind vor Kinder gestellt, die im besten Falle lustlos und konzentrationsunfähig sind, mit denen man verhandeln muss, ob sie bereit sind, während des Unterrichts den Gameboy oder das Handy abzustellen; die im schlimmeren Falle hoch aggressiv in die Schule kommen und denen man im schlimmsten Falle Stich- und Schlagwaffen vor dem Unterricht abnehmen muss. Mit dieser Darstellung kommen wir dem schulischen Alltag in Luxemburg schon etwas näher. Tatsächlich kann es ohne weiteres vorkommen, dass ein Erstklässler - kein Fünft- oder Sechstklässler - mit Fäusten auf seine Lehrerin einschlägt und gleichzeitig, gut geschult von seinen Mittelstandseltern, schreit: "Du darfst mich nicht anfassen." Oder wie vergangene Woche im Osten des Landes ein Vater eines Schülers bei der Erstvergabe von Hausaufgaben der Lehrerin umgehend mit seinem Anwalt gedroht hat.

Die 3G Netze in Deutschland werden derzeit offenbar kaum genutzt. E-Plus Vorstand Uwe Bergheim schlägt in Deutschland Alarm: „Das Netz ist zu weniger als einem Prozent ausgelastet“, beklagt sich der Chef des Mobilfunkers über fehlende Kunden. Und droht mit Konsequenzen: Wenn die Kunden nicht kommen würden, baue E-Plus auch sein teures Netz nicht weiter aus. „E-Plus stellt nicht die Republik mit Antennen zu, solange es nicht eine wirklich sichtbare Nachfrage nach den neuen Diensten gibt“, sagte der Chef des drittgrößten deutschen Mobilfunkers. Seiner Ansicht nach gelte dies auch für alle anderen UMTS-Mobilfunker in Deutschland.

UMTS KOMMT ERST LANGSAM INS ROLLEN

Auch in Österreich ist die Situation nicht viel anders. Mobilkom, One, Telering und T-Mobile fahren in Sachen 3G schaumgebremst. Lediglich „3“ führt derzeit seine brandneuen Funkzellen einer Verwendung zu. Und das nur, weil der UMTS-Anbieter mit extrem günstigen Telefonie-Angeboten und Handy-Stützungen unterwegs ist – und mit dem riesigen Mischkonzern Hutchinson-Whampoa im Rücken. Derzeit hat „3“ in Österreich rund 83.000 User, weltweit sollen es insgesamt erst 3,2 Mio. sein.

The documents, seen by the Daily Telegraph, show more clearly than ever the grave reservations expressed by Foreign Secretary Jack Straw over the consequences of a second Gulf war and how prescient his Foreign Office officials were in predicting the ensuing chaos. Straw predicted in March 2002 that post-war Iraq would cause major problems, telling Mr. Blair in a letter marked 'Secret and personal' that no one had a clear idea of what would happen afterward. There has never been a more critical political issue than climate change, yet both candidates for U.S. President are virtually silent on the matter. I am appalled at the lack of attention paid to the issue of climate change in the American campaign for President.

The conventional wisdom sold to us by corporate greens is that Kerry is an environmental crusader. What a lie. Yes, President Bush has turned his back on the Kyoto protocols. But Kerry did so first, voting against Kyoto when Clinton was president.

The world needs a visionary and statesman like leader. On issues of war and peace, there is virtually no difference between the candidates. Neither candidate is green, just as neither is for peace. We are witnessing an unprecedented failure to lead.

There exists a complete and utter failure to grasp what is at stake with rapidly progressing climate change - the survival of civilization, continued maintenance of the Earth, and danger of authoritarian responses.

Health care, Iraq, gay marriage and abortion are dreadfully important issues. Yet they pale in significance to the threat posed by climate change and ecological collapse which may make much of the World uninhabitable and incapable of supporting advanced, affluent human societies.

Because of failed American leadership on climate change, there exists a great deal of ignorance and apathy on the subject amongst the public.

Firstly, the term "climate change" is more accurate than global warming. Though on average global temperatures are rising, the most serious impacts will be lack of consistent climatic patterns and increased weather extremes.

One recent major finding is that much of the increased heat has been absorbed by the oceans, making it likely if not probable that hurricanes - which are strengthened by warm ocean water - are becoming more powerful.

The best science based estimate is that fossil fuel emissions must be reduced by 70% in order to avert global ecological and social Armageddon. Yet both candidates shamelessly pander over modest and overdue gasoline price increases. Cheap gas is killing the Earth.

The technology already exists to stabilize the climate. Recently scientists identified 15 technologies that are ripe for large-scale use. They recommended a portfolio of energy efficiency, solar energy, wind power and limited nuclear energy; and the preservation or enhancement of "natural" sinks for carbon dioxide such as rain forests, as well as the conservation tillage techniques on farms.

First climate skeptics doubted the science. Now they say we must adapt, it is too late to mitigate the effects. The oil and coal industries daily perpetuate a crime against humanity - seeking to emit every last bit of carbon dioxide before embracing a clean energy economy.

Russia is the wild card on which the modest, yet important and historical, Kyoto process depends. But it is preocccupied and quite likely to kill off the international treaty - which took more than 10 years to negotiate - by delaying its decision to the point where it is too late for countries to adopt in time to cut emissions.

Tony Blair has recently claimed the mantle of climate change leadership, such as it is, warning that climate change has the potential to unleash a global human and economic catastrophe if left unchecked. Mr. Blair spoke of the need recently for a "green industrial revolution" - it remains to be seen whether outputs will equal rhetoric.

Things are playing out as I and other ecologists intuited they would some decades ago. The great civilizations are in their death throes - striking out at terror which is really just their own reflection, and denying their dependence upon the natural world. Humanity is pressing up against real biophysical restraints in terms of climate as well as water, forest and ocean ecosystems.

Climate change is the most immediate manifestation of disregard for ecological systems upon which all life depends. It is a matter of prudence as a society to respond with utmost urgency to implement a clean energy economy.

The result of failure to adjust to climate change will be societal ruin. Shall we proceed, evolve or die? Around the World we must vote, as if our life depends upon it, for who you think will best address climate change and related social justice and equity issues.

Story in full POLICE have shelved plans to introduce a £2.9 billion national radio system in the Capital - after discovering their radios do not work in part of the city centre.

Police chiefs say officers would be put at risk due to failings in the new system, which was due to be introduced across Lothian and Borders last week.

The force has insisted it will not introduce the new system unless a catalogue of problems are ironed out.

Police have found their radios repeatedly fail to work in Rose Street and have experienced similar problems in North Berwick in East Lothian.

There have also been persistent problems with emergency buttons which are supposed to summon help to officers when they are in danger. When the system was tested in Edinburgh, it took eight seconds for handsets to broadcast a signal meant to call for urgent assistance.

The force is the first in the UK to reject the digital Airwave UK network, which is intended to replace the standard radios currently used by all emergency services.

The Scottish Police Federation recently demanded the network be put on hold after previous tests found serious delays in an emergency alert function.

The system was supposed to be ready for service in the Lothians on September 9. But Chief Constable Paddy Tomkins said adopting the network would lead to "serious officer safety issues".

He said: "There are significant failings in the operational capability and coverage throughout the force which mmO2 Airwave were not able to rectify by September 9. MmO2 are not delivering coverage in North Berwick and Rose Street in the city centre. There are serious deficiencies in the quality and reliability of hand-held terminal use.

"The rigorous testing regime implemented by Lothian and Borders Police has identified further serious problems associated with the use of the emergency button.

"These are very serious officer safety issues which apply to all forces using the latest version of Airwave software. It is for these reasons we are the first force in the UK to reject the system."

Mr Tomkins said the force would consider moving to Airwave in the coming weeks, but only if the problems were rectified. He added: "The Police Information Technology Organisation and mmO2 Airwave are working with clear urgency to address the very serious emergency button issues. As yet, however, we have not been provided with a firm timescale for the problem to be resolved.

"The existing radio system operated by the force remains fully operational. The delay in Airwave can be accommodated."

The new network’s implementation is being overseen by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland. Telecoms giant mmO2, which won the contract to introduce the digital system, has said it is investigating the problem.

An mmO2 Airwave spokesman said: "We will continue to work to resolve all Lothian and Borders Police force’s concerns to ensure delivery as soon as possible to provide the same kind of service already in use by 40 police forces, two fire services and two ambulance services in the UK."
