Einstein School Dilemma

Iris Atzmon

Einstein School in Haifa was not opened on the first day of the school, after the pupils' parents had learnt of the high radiation level found by Dr. Ehud Neman (former Env. Ministry head of radiation dep.) in the school area. The source is the army FM antenna. The AM antenna at the same place, was closed several years ago, after the citizens' fight. There were cancer cases among soldiers who served in the area, and also among the residents. The FM antenna is one of 4 towers in the area, rich with cellular antennas.

The Env. Ministry didn't like the results of the Cities Union measurement. It was reported in Haaretz newspaper on the 1/9/2004, that the Env. Ministry and the Cities Union blamed one each other. The Env. Minister, Yehudit Naot, "instead of deciding, sent a non-obligatory letter to the Cities Union, with unclear sayings about the danger from radiation.

Israeli army's spokesman said in reaction to the issue, that the day before yesterday there was an additional measurement, in which there was not radiation above the standard." (Daivd Ratner to Haaretz 1.9.2004)

But what did the Minister write in the letter?

One of the parents tells, that in the letter, the Minister wrote that the Cities Union results were misleading [it found up to 400% more than the recommendation of the Env. Ministry which is 20 uW/cm2] and in any case it only refers partially to the Ministry recommendation, because the Ministry divides the radiation levels according to the population density and according to how much time the people spend outside the house, and more. And that of course that whoever checks radiation and is not from the Env. Ministry is puposely misleading and it is not clear why the Cities Union participated in that. Also in the Env. Ministry measurement there were exceedings, they also agree that lately the activity level of the site increased.

On the 1.9.2004, the parents sat together with the mayor until 1.00 at night, and decided that a monitoring station will be built, funded by the contaminator, and it will warn when high radiation will be found. The parents understand that it won't solve the problem, but they decided to open the year and continue to fight.

Is there any other Env. Ministry in the world that devides radiation level according to population density, and the time they spend outside their house "and more"?

So they must have a daily report from each resident, how much time he is going to be everyday outside his house to adjust the radiation level to that....

So how much radiation are the antennas going to emit when the pupils are in the classrooms and how much when they are out of the classrooms? Here's a tricky question for the Minister.

Update 13. October 2004:

The development is quite expected but with a twist at the end:
The citizens protested today the maire also came. He said, at first, that this massive antenna shouldn't be there even if the Env. ministry says the radiation level is ok, and this is what the Env. ministry says, and further claims that the army did some operations in order to reduce the radiation level so "everything is fine now".

Then, the TV presenter showed the big gap of the two measurements results that the Env. ministry "found", and the ministry did them in a time gap of only 5 days: for example, in the first measurement they "found" 16 uW/cm2 and 5 days afterwards 1 uW/cm2. So, then the TV presenter shows a very interesting sentence of the ministry's unpublished report [the ministry refused to publish the report] : they write that "the result is valid/ true only for the time and the place of the measurement". So that is I think important in the legal aspect, because they claim that it is enough to do measurements once a year near cellular antennas and present them on their website as "reliable". If they "find" this gap within 5 days, what is the public supposed to understand with regard to the once a year measurements that the Env. ministry protects? I think the ministry fell into its own trap now.

Imperialism according to the conception of Che: the highest form of development of capitalism, with the purpose to conquer economical and political power world wide. Sometimes by setting up a puppet government in a developing country, sometimes through deals laid down by the International Monetary Fund or the World Bank. That is the favourite way capitalist governments subdue developing countries to open up their economies to the interests of western multinational concerns. In case such countries won't keep in line, the ultimate trick is to launch a military intervention under the flag of the United Nations to restore "democracy" or "human rights".

What Makes Money Valuable?

Page 3, Modern Money Mechanics: pub. Fed bank of Chicago.

What Makes Money Valuable?

In the United States neither paper currency nor deposits have value as commodities. Intrinsically, a dollar bill is just a piece of paper, deposits are merely book entries. Coins do have some intrinsic value as metal, but generally far less than their face value. (maybe 97 percent less?)

What, then, makes these instruments - checks, paper money, and coins - acceptable at face value in payment of all debts and for other monetary uses? Mainly, it is the confidence people have that they will be able to exchange such money for other financial assets and for real goods and services whenever they choose to do so. (The opposite of 'real' is imaginary--their spurious specie is imaginary)

DID THEY OR DID THEY NOT ADMIT OPERATING A CONFIDENCE GAME?

Did they not admit the history of banking is a history of fraud? Read on!

In the absence of legal reserve requirements, banks can build up deposits by increasing loans and investments so long as they keep enough currency on hand to redeem whatever amounts the holders of deposits want to convert into currency. This unique attribute of the banking business was discovered many centuries ago.It started with goldsmiths. As early bankers, they initially provided safekeeping services, making a profit from vault storage fees for gold and coins deposited with them. People would redeem their "deposit receipts" whenever they needed gold or coins to purchase something, and physically take the gold or coins to the seller who, in turn, would deposit them for safekeeping, often with the same banker. Everyone soon found that it was a lot easier simply to use the deposit receipts directly as a means of payment. These receipts, which became known as notes, were acceptable as money since whoever held them could go to the banker and exchange them for metallic money. Then, bankers discovered that they could make loans merely by giving their promises to pay, or bank notes, to borrowers. In this way, banks began to create money. More notes could be issued than the gold and coin on hand (FRAUD!)because only a portion of the notes outstanding would be presented for payment at any one time. Enough metallic money (NO SUCH ANIMAL!) had to be kept on hand, of course, to redeem whatever volume of notes was presented for payment.

WHEN THE GOLD SMITHS SAW IT WAS MORE PROFITABLE TO WORK PEOPLE THAN GOLD, THEY STOPPED GOLDSMITHING AND BECAME BANKERS,

ya don't see the fraud here, Mr. Miner?

What limits the Amount of Money Banks Can Create? If deposit money can be created so easily, what is to prevent banks from making too much - more than sufficient to keep the nation's productive resources fully employed without price inflation? Like its predecessor, the modern bank must keep available, to make payment on demand, a considerable amount of currency and funds on deposit with the central bank. The bank must be prepared to convert deposit money into currency for those depositors who request currency.

The only thing congress ever made "current as money" was silver coins!!

Do banks offer silver coins to depositors, Mr. Miner? Or do they admit fraud and a confidence game?

Quotes above are straight from the "horses' mouth".

Another Reason for Schools to Ban Genetically Engineered Foods

Institute for Responsible Technology

Spilling the Beans,

Sept. 1, 2004

Newsletter on GM Foods, September issue Spilling the Beans

Another Reason for Schools to Ban Genetically Engineered Foods

By Jeffrey M. Smith, author of Seeds of Deception

Before the Appleton Wisconsin high school replaced their cafeteria’s processed foods with wholesome, nutritious food, the school was described as out-of-control. There were weapons violations, student disruptions, and a cop on duty full-time. After the change in school meals, the students were calm, focused, and orderly. There were no more weapons violations, and no suicides, expulsions, dropouts, or drug violations. The new diet and improved behavior has lasted for seven years, and now other schools are changing their meal programs with similar results.

Years ago, a science class at Appleton found support for their new diet by conducting a cruel and unusual experiment with three mice. They fed them the junk food that kids in other high schools eat everyday. The mice freaked out. Their behavior was totally different than the three mice in the neighboring cage. The neighboring mice had good karma; they were fed nutritious whole foods and behaved like mice. They slept during the day inside their cardboard tube, played with each other, and acted very mouse-like. The junk food mice, on the other hand, destroyed their cardboard tube, were no longer nocturnal, stopped playing with each other, fought often, and two mice eventually killed the third and ate it. After the three month experiment, the students rehabilitated the two surviving junk food mice with a diet of whole foods. After about three weeks, the mice came around.

Sister Luigi Frigo repeats this experiment every year in her second grade class in Cudahy, Wisconsin, but mercifully, for only four days. Even on the first day of junk food, the mice’s behavior “changes drastically.” They become lazy, antisocial, and nervous. And it still takes the mice about two to three weeks on unprocessed foods to return to normal. One year, the second graders tried to do the experiment again a few months later with the same mice, but this time the animals refused to eat the junk food.

Across the ocean in Holland, a student fed one group of mice genetically modified (GM) corn and soy, and another group the non-GM variety. The GM mice stopped playing with each other and withdrew into their own parts of the cage. When the student tried to pick them up, unlike their well-behaved neighbors, the GM mice scampered around in apparent fear and tried to climb the walls. One mouse in the GM group was found dead at the end of the experiment.

It’s interesting to note that the junk food fed to the mice in the Wisconsin experiments also contained genetically modified ingredients. And although the Appleton school lunch program did not specifically attempt to remove GM foods, it happened anyway. That’s because GM foods such as soy and corn and their derivatives are largely found in processed foods. So when the school switched to unprocessed alternatives, almost all ingredients derived from GM crops were taken out automatically.

Does this mean that GM foods negatively affect the behavior of humans or animals? It would certainly be irresponsible to say so on the basis of a single student mice experiment and the results at Appleton. On the other hand, it is equally irresponsible to say that it doesn’t.

We are just beginning to understand the influence of food on behavior. A study in Science in December 2002 concluded that “food molecules act like hormones, regulating body functioning and triggering cell division. The molecules can cause mental imbalances ranging from attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorder to serious mental illness.” The problem is we do not know which food molecules have what effect. The bigger problem is that the composition of GM foods can change radically without our knowledge.

Genetically modified foods have genes inserted into their DNA. But genes are not Legos; they don’t just snap into place. Gene insertion creates unpredicted, irreversible changes. In one study, for example, a gene chip monitored the DNA before and after a single foreign gene was inserted. As much as 5 percent of the DNA’s genes changed the amount of protein they were producing. Not only is that huge in itself, but these changes can multiply through complex interactions down the line.

In spite of the potential for dramatic changes in the composition of GM foods, they are typically measured for only a small number of known nutrient levels. But even if we could identify all the changed compounds, at this point we wouldn’t know which might be responsible for the antisocial nature of mice or humans. Likewise, we are only beginning to identify the medicinal compounds in food. We now know, for example, that the pigment in blueberries may revive the brain’s neural communication system, and the antioxidant found in grape skins may fight cancer and reduce heart disease. But what about other valuable compounds we don’t know about that might change or disappear in GM varieties?

Consider GM soy. In July 1999, years after it was on the market, independent researchers published a study showing that it contains 12-14 percent less cancer-fighting phytoestrogens. What else has changed that we don’t know about? [Monsanto responded with its own study, which concluded that soy’s phytoestrogen levels vary too much to even carry out a statistical analysis. They failed to disclose, however, that the laboratory that conducted Monsanto’s experiment had been instructed to use an obsolete method to detect phytoestrogens—one that had been replaced due to its highly variable results.]

In 1996, Monsanto published a paper in the Journal of Nutrition that concluded in the title, “The composition of glyphosate-tolerant soybean seeds is equivalent to that of conventional soybeans.” The study only compared a small number of nutrients and a close look at their charts revealed significant differences in the fat, ash, and carbohydrate content. In addition, GM soy meal contained 27 percent more trypsin inhibitor, a well-known soy allergen. The study also used questionable methods. Nutrient comparisons are routinely conducted on plants grown in identical conditions so that variables such as weather and soil can be ruled out. Otherwise, differences in plant composition could be easily missed. In Monsanto’s study, soybeans were planted in widely varying climates and geography.

Although one of their trials was a side-by-side comparison between GM and non-GM soy, for some reason the results were left out of the paper altogether. Years later, a medical writer found the missing data in the archives of the Journal of Nutrition and made them public. No wonder the scientists left them out. The GM soy showed significantly lower levels of protein, a fatty acid, and phenylalanine, an essential amino acid. Also, toasted GM soy meal contained nearly twice the amount of a lectin that may block the body’s ability to assimilate other nutrients. Furthermore, the toasted GM soy contained as much as seven times the amount of trypsin inhibitor, indicating that the allergen may survive cooking more in the GM variety. (This might explain the 50 percent jump in soy allergies in the UK, just after GM soy was introduced.)

We don’t know all the changes that occur with genetic engineering, but certainly GM crops are not the same. Ask the animals. Eyewitness reports from all over North America describe how several types of animals, when given a choice, avoided eating GM food. These included cows, pigs, elk, deer, raccoons, squirrels, rats, and mice. In fact, the Dutch student mentioned above first determined that his mice had a two-to-one preference for non-GM before forcing half of them to eat only the engineered variety.

Differences in GM food will likely have a much larger impact on children. They are three to four times more susceptible to allergies. Also, they convert more of the food into body-building material. Altered nutrients or added toxins can result in developmental problems. For this reason, animal nutrition studies are typically conducted on young, developing animals. After the feeding trial, organs are weighed and often studied under magnification. If scientists used mature animals instead of young ones, even severe nutritional problems might not be detected. The Monsanto study used mature animals instead of young ones.

They also diluted their GM soy with non-GM protein 10- or 12–fold before feeding the animals. And they never weighed the organs or examined them under a microscope. The study, which is the only major animal feeding study on GM soy ever published, is dismissed by critics as rigged to avoid finding problems.

Unfortunately, there is a much bigger experiment going on—an uncontrolled one which we are all a part of. We’re being fed GM foods daily, without knowing the impact of these foods on our health, our behavior, or our children. Thousands of schools around the world, particularly in Europe, have decided not to let their kids be used as guinea pigs. They have banned GM foods.

The impact of changes in the composition of GM foods is only one of several reasons why these foods may be dangerous. Other reasons may be far worse (see http://www.seedsofdeception.com). With the epidemic of obesity and diabetes and with the results in Appleton, parents and schools are waking up to the critical role that diet plays. When making changes in what kids eat, removing GM foods should be a priority.

A videotape on changing school meals, including footage from Appleton, will be available in the fall, 2004 at http://www.seedsofdeception.com. The website also describes how to avoid eating GM foods.

Pentagon Brass Suppresses Truth About Toxic Weapons

Depleted Uranium

by Dennis Kyne

In May of 2004 I attended my first Barter Faire ever, in Curlew, Washington. Sponsored by the Veterans for Peace, I arrived as far north as I had ever been in America. I came to tell the people of Eastern Washington that depleted uranium needs to be dealt with. I had a wonderful visit, met wonderful people, and made wonderful friends. Thank you, Eastern Washington, for receiving me so nicely.

A year prior to my visit, in its May issue, Environmental Magazine informed the world that, "Since the U.S. military's widespread use of DU (Depleted Uranium, U238) in the Gulf became known in 1991, the Pentagon has struggled to suppress mounting evidence that DU munitions are simply too toxic to use. It has cashiered or attempted to discredit its own experts, ignored their advice, impeded scientific research into DU's health effects and assembled a disinformation campaign to confuse the issue." Two months later the Seattle Post Intelligencer stated, "The Pentagon and the United Nations estimate that the U.S. and Britain used 1,100 to 2,200 tons of armor piercing shells made of depleted uranium during attacks on Iraq in March and April [2003] far more than the 375 tons used in the 1991 Gulf War."

On February 2 of this year, Sara Flounders and John Catalinotto of Swan's Commentary explained to America, "By now half of all the 697,000 U.S. soldiers involved in the 1991 war have reported serious illnesses. According to the American Gulf War Veterans Association, more than 30 percent of these soldiers are chronically ill and are receiving disability benefits from the Veterans Administration."

So, if they have used far more DU than was used in 1991, we should expect far more disabilities, death and chronic pain. That is the truth.

In October of 2003, Leuren Moret, an expert on depleted uranium, informed us at the World Uranium Conference in Hamburg, Germany, about Strontium-90 levels in baby teeth from children with cancer. Moret states very clearly, "Since 1975, national rates for children with leukemia have increased by 44% and for children with brain cancer by 50%." In Moret's most recent work, The Trojan Horse of Nuclear War, published in the Hamburg Conference conclusions, she adds that, "There was never any doubt about the great biological hazard of massive nuclear fallout even before testing started. But there was little concern about the global low level fallout from atmospheric contamination by very small particles which remain suspended until nucleating agents such as rain, snow and pollution remove them from the air and deposit them in the environment, exposing the global population to chronic low level radiation."

In addition to Moret, J. Gould's The Enemy Within illustrates high-risk counties within 100 miles of nuclear reactors using a map that plots breast cancer deaths that are reported annually by counties to the CDC. In the western part of the U.S., the locations of nuclear weapons labs and a few nuclear power plants are indicated by the highest breast cancer deaths. These are the newest victims of exposure to radiation.

We know very well that the mining of the uranium for decades has unduly harmed the Native Americans who mined the ore. We know that the government has used troops as guinea pigs in the proliferation of nuclear weapons programs. Now as we accept our newest victims, women and children of every race and class, it is imperative that we recognize these radioactive weapons are omnicidal. That is the truth.

In 1991, I served with the 24th Infantry Division, the most criminally negligent division in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. As a medic, I watched as soldiers walked into the carnage that 45 days of bombing had left in the southern part of Iraq and in Kuwait. The signs and symptoms of the exposure appeared quickly with countless troops vomiting and getting pale. Upon return I experienced joint pains, extreme itching that would have me shredding skin, and a feeling that resembled rubbing alcohol burning a cut in the bottom of my stomach. There are countless accounts of birth deformities and miscarriages in returning soldiers. And women have often complained of pain after having sex with returning front line soldiers.

In 1995, four years after I filed my complaint about my recurring health problems with the Veterans Affairs, I was finally tested for ionizing radiation, twice. Having never been able to get my hands on the results, I am not sure what my true uranium exposure was. However, since 1995 the VA has compensated me for "undiagnosed illnesses." Funny, the VA will admit I am sick, but they will only diagnose me as undiagnosed. I am a VA statistic, which means I am on record as a casualty. However, my stepbrother is not a VA statistic. He has the same signs and symptoms I display, but is not one of the casualties. My brother-in-law who served farther forward than I did is often called an AIDS patient or cancer victim; he is a casualty who is compensated at 100%. Sadly it took over a decade for the VA to recognize his disability. Even sadder, they say he is not a depleted uranium victim and will not test for ionizing radiation. Three of my family members are sick, from the same war, the same battlefield, and the same nuclear waste that is being hurled at Iraq and Afghanistan currently. That is the truth.

How? Why? Is this some sort of Joke? No. Depleted uranium is not new. What is new is the disposal mechanism. In the 80's then-President Reagan made a deal with Russia to stop developing nuclear weapons. We know how short-lived that was. We know that every treaty has been violated and nuclear proliferation is on a rise again. What we didn't know, though, was the answer to the question the environmentalists asked Reagan in the late 80's. "Mr. President, what are you going to do with the waste of the nuclear reactors?"

The President informed his citizens that he planned on sending it to the moon or the bottom of the ocean. That is what they had been doing for years; Reagan was the only person whoever felt smart enough to tell anyone. Americans, who would have nothing to do with this environmental desecration, put a stop to it. In 1997, Dan Fahey, cited in Metal of Dishonor, tells us that, "As a result of 50 years of enriching uranium for use in nuclear weapons and reactors, the U.S. has in excess of 1.1 billion pounds of DU waste material." Of this incredible surplus of radioactive waste, some has been buried in isolated spots and a load of it has been used by the Department of Defense in its weapons programs. The military uses this weapon because it is armor piercing. If this weapon is intended for use against armor, and we destroyed most of the Iraqi's armor in 1991, why have we increased the use of it in Iraq from 375 tons to some ambiguous amount? Why is it being dropped all over Afghanistan where there is not one tank verified to be driven by the Taliban or al Quaeda?

Dennis Kyne is a fifteen-year veteran of the United States Army. His book Support the Truth is available at The Book Depot in Colville, and at his Web site: http://www.denniskyne.com. It is dedicated to the half million homeless veterans and depleted uranium victims.

Timber sale gets no takers

http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?BRD=1283&dept_id=158550&newsid=12812990&PAG=461&rfi=9

By JOHN MONGLE, Staff Writer August 31, 2004

The forest service received no bids last week for the Joel Branch timber sale near Bark Camp Lake on High Knob. "We're very disappointed," says Pat Eagan, contract officer for the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. "We don't know why at this point - we really don't have any idea."

This was the second time the 165-acre tract had been offered for bids and the second time there were no takers.

On both occasions, potential bidders were mailed material by the Clinch Coalition warning that any logging operation on the site would likely be interrupted by protests.

Before the bid deadline, George Washington and Jefferson National Forest Supervisor Bill Damon wrote a letter to newspapers expressing shock at what he called the coalition's attempts to threaten and intimidate potential bidders.

Now, forest service officials will not speculate on whether the environmentalists' campaign influenced the outcome.

Neither would Clinch Coalition President Detta Davis of Coeburn claim victory for any effect the coalition's letter might have had in there being no takers for the job.

Davis said she is not sure the letter had an influence. "I'm not sure that it did," she says. "I'm not sure if that's the case or if they gave it second thoughts. The ranger said they would lower the bidding price."

Doug Jones, Clinch District ranger, said earlier that if no bids were taken, the tract would be reappraised and offered at a lower rate.

Jones speculates the appraisal of the tract may have been off, but can offer no specific reasons nobody bid.

"We nose around on these things," he says, "and we thought there was some interest."

Two timber industry representatives seem certain that it was not correspondence from environmental groups that chased off potential bidders.

"I do not think that the letter would deter anyone in this area," says Bill Anderson of Gilbert NS Lumber Inc., of Duffield. "The letter would be a minor part."

Anderson declines comment on why his company chooses to bid or pass on any sale, including this one, but he says, "On any sale there are a number of factors that can increase or decrease your cost."

He points out that few loggers in the region have the ability to do tower skidding or cable logging as called for in the bid proposal.

Another factor, according to Anderson, is a problem with getting workers since the recent increase in coal-related employment. He also pointed to the fact that expenses for everything from fuel to workers compensation to insurance have gone up in the last six months.

Anderson says he knows and likes several members of the coalition, but he says they are "a little misinformed on timber practices."

Anderson says the forest service has done a very good job of managing the timber on High Knob and that it is "very high quality." But, he says that due to the age of the stand some of it must be harvested to protect the health of the forest.

Tom Merriman of Georgia Pacific said potential problems are "not really an issue on whether to bid a job. Everybody in the industry was well aware of it - everybody was aware there would be protests - if not trouble."

For Georgia Pacific's Mt. Hope, WVa., operation, the reason for not bidding was simple - the mill that handles hardwoods from this region is being sold.

"We're not buying any hardwoods in that area right now," Merriman said.

The cable operation requirement would have been an obstacle for the Joel Branch sale as well, according to Merriman.

Jones thinks that the uncertainty of being able to complete the project may have deterred bidders in the original sale offer. The Clinch Coalition had a federal lawsuit pending at the time to block the sale.

That suit, aimed at preventing logging on Joel Branch and other tracts totaling some 700 acres on High Knob, was dismissed earlier this year by U.S. District Court Judge Glen Williams. The time for appeal of the decision had run by the time bid packages went out earlier this month.

Eagan says the district office will be re-evaluating the sale in the coming weeks to try to determine why the sale was not successful and develop a new plan for the sale.

"We're just thankful the loggers appreciate it (High Knob) as much as we do," says Davis.

She says Clinch Coalition will "do as much as we can peacefully" to prevent logging in the area, and emphasizes, "We will not do anything violent on our part." But, she says that she cannot speak for other groups.

The Clinch Coalition partnered with Earth First! for an "action camp" at Little Stony Falls near Bark Camp earlier this summer in which tree sitting techniques and other anti-logging protest measures were taught.

Although Davis says no group, including Earth First! or Greenpeace, has said they will resort to violence, she says, the coalition "is not responsible if they want to do that."

She says some groups will respect the local group's decision on the level of protest and some don't. "Sometimes they will respect it," she says.

Please Help Save Jackson Redwood Forest

Please Help Save Jackson Redwood Forest!

http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/leg04gov1

If you responded to my previous request, I thank you deeply. If not, please take a minute to help us end our five-year struggle to save Jackson Forest for our children.

Jackson State Forest is a public treasure -- 50,000 acres of beautiful redwood forest located within a few hours drive of San Francisco. We have a chance to remove permanently the threat of massive industrial logging of our public redwood forest!

Please write the governor asking him to sign SB 1648,
http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/leg04gov1 the only forest protection bill to make it through the California legislature this year!

We've made it incredibly easy for you to help. We've prepared a letter that you can edit and send off with just a click. Learn more and send your letter now.

http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/leg04gov1

Don't let this opportunity to slip away. Thousands of us have been worked for five years and contributed over $300,000 to save this beautiful redwood forest for future generations. Until stopped by citizen lawsuits, the state was massively logging this public redwood forest, owned by you and me. The profits were used to subsidize the private timber industry.

The state is rushing to get back to logging Jackson State Forest using variations of clearcutting on half of the forest! Clean water, salmon, wildlife habitat, and recreation values will be largely disregarded.

We can prevent this from happening, but only if Governor Schwarzenegger signs the state forest reform bill. This is the chance we've been working for. Don't let it slip away through inaction. It will take you only a minute to learn more and send your letter. Please do it now.

http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/leg04gov1

Let's make sure the governor knows that the public is watching and wants his signature.

The reform bill would allow continued timber production in Jackson Forest, but only within the context of scientific research, maintenance and restoration of forest resources, recreation, education, and public enjoyment. Clearcutting would be effectively prohibited and old growth protected. This would be a huge step towards protecting our forest for future generations.

The California Department of Forestry has been making $10 million per year profits from industrial logging of Jackson Forest and strongly opposes the reform bill. They will urge the governor to veto it.

A coalition of environmental groups has set a goal of 5,000 letters to the governor by September 10. We've set this ambitious goal because we think it will take that amount of public outcry to get Schwarzenegger to go against his own agency. We still have a long way to go. Please help

http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/leg04gov1 .

Please forward this message to friends and family. We need every letter we can get.

Thank you for your help.

Yours truly,

Vince Taylor

Roadless Area Conservation Rule

From: American Lands Alliance

Date: August 31, 2004

Call Forest Service Chief Bosworth Today!

Tell Him You Want A Comment Extension & Public Hearings on the Repeal of the Roadless Rule.

As you know, the Forest Service is moving forward with efforts to repeal the Roadless Area Conservation Rule put in place by the Clinton administration in 2001.

This week we need to flood Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth's office with calls demanding a public comment period extension and a request for hearings across the country on the Forest Service's decision to repeal the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule.

The Bush administration claims that the reason they are making changes to the Roadless Rule is that the process used to establish the Rule under the Clinton administration was unfair to States and local governments, the comment period was not sufficient, and that it was a last minute process.

However, the Clinton administration spent three years on public dialogue and multiple public comment processes, which included an incredibly thorough assessment of roadless areas, extensive scientific analysis, over 600 public hearings nationwide, and comment periods in excess of those required. A record number of Americans wrote to the federal government - over 1.5 million -- and over 95% supported the Roadless Rule (to date, 2.5 million comments have been submitted in three different comment periods). Not by any stretch of the imagination can it accurately be characterized as a last-minute process.

In contrast, the Bush administration has not issued any scientific analysis justifying a change in the rule, has not issued a new Environmental Impact Statement justifying these changes, and has not held one public hearing. The Bush administration is only giving the public 60 days to comment on the decision to repeal the rule before it becomes final and has completely ignored the over 2.5 million comments advocating for strong roadless protection.

TAKE ACTION TODAY: Call Chief Bosworth at 202-205-1661 or -205-1195 and tell him that you want:

1. The roadless public comment period extended by at least 45 days

2. At least 600 public hearings held across the country (the same amount the Clinton administration held).

Blut-Hirn-Schranke

Das Gehirn schützen....

Aus Svenska Dagbladet 15.9.99

Autor: Ulrika Bjorkstén

Übersetzung: Adam Huuva (E), L. Gaigg (D)
