Being concerned why Councils allow so many Telecommunication Masts (TM’s) in our communities I started asking the question “How much money does my Council (Tameside, Greater Manchester) receive from these mast being on Council land?” To my surprise my Council said “Out of the 85 masts at present in Tameside they get £199,629 a year in business rates that they then give back to Central Government who then re-distribute in the form of a grant to Local Government.
I was then interested into how much nationally would this total be and so I wrote to the Chancellor’s office under the “Freedom of Information Act” and was directed to the Government Valuation Officer in Manchester and what he relayed to me explained why this and every Government loves TM’s wherever they may put these masts.
In the UK there are 21,706 masts paying a Rateable Value and the total sum a year is a staggering £303,421,394. No wonder the Government encourages mobile phone companies to blight our communities with these masts.
The L.C.P are against masts in our communities and want to see such masts removed from housing estates, leisure centres, hospitals and most of all our schools NOW.

Report from Japan: Gauss Network January and February 2005
The primary focus of the January and February Gauss Network meetings was a proposal to create a support group specifically for people who have chosen not to have cell phones. It is intended to be international and include anyone who for any reason opts out of mobile telephony, plus a sub-chapter for people who have been forced against their will to have a cell phone (by job, family, etc.) but would like to quit. There is a consensus that the primary focus should be on people with no cell phones because most have had to sacrifice relationships and many suffer tremendous social pressure, not to mention the physical torment some experience. The group would provide information and emotional support to people in their quest to be rid of these dangerous, enslaving, environmentally destructive devices.
The proposal was brought up by Mr. Yuzo Hidaka, who described his search for work in delivery services without a cell phone. He found a job under these conditions with one company, and was able to demonstrate that he could work more efficiently than drivers with cell phones, who tended to waste time chatting or texting and also suffered lapses of attention, for example, allowing the customer to walk off with registered mail chits while they answered their ringing phone. Public phones are becoming less frequent (I see them at intervals of 1 km along most major roads), but with careful planning, attention and a good memory for places (all of which may be diminished by cell phone use), a delivery driver can be more efficient without a cell phone. However, laws have changed in Japan recently, putting more pressure on companies to keep track of their delivery personnel, therefore they are likely to demand cell phone use, notwithstanding the recent big news that even hands-free use leads to increased occurrence of accidents and the fact that delivery vehicles are bigger, resulting in deadlier accidents.

Base station advice
I am hopeing someone will be able to give me some help with a bit of technical advice. I live in a tower block in central london. The roof of my building is under lease to Orange who have been using it as a Base Station Controller (BSC). This apparently has been going on for 13 years. I only became aware of this when the amount of dishes began to grow over the last few years (20+) and could be clearly seen from the ground. I have since become aware of the health issues related to this form of technology and am in the process of trying to start a campaign to get this BSC removed. It took me over a year to get Orange to tell me whats on the roof. Which basically involved giving me measurements of dishes, hardly technical stuff!. But the point which they made which I could do with some advice on is the fact that they state it is not a Base Station at all but a BSC which "uses narrow band, directional, microwave links to integrate remote sites into the wider Orange network. Since microwave links are not required to provide network coverage to any area, their power levels are extremely low, so much so that no real public health concerns have been raised about them."
Does this mean my specific base station (BSC) is not potentially harmful? I went to OFCOM's Sitefinder where Base stations are listed and its not there. So I rang OFCOM and they iniatially said they had never heard of a BSC and registration of a site by and mobile company was voluntary. I asked how they could check that Operators were keeping within emission guidelines if they did'nt know where they were and was told they did not check! I then explained exactly what the BSC was supposed to do (as Above) and was then told it should be licensed and is dealt with by the "people upstairs" I asked who they were but she would not tell me. Instead she said I must send an email requesting information and that I could not be put through to any one else.
All of which seems a bit 'cloak and dagger'. So if any out there can tell if thet know anything about BSC's I would me most grateful. I find myself in a position where I want to do a campaign to have this Base Station removed but if I go to my local councillors argueing that I want it removed I really need to know a bit about what it is and if it is a potential danger.

Does this mean my specific base station (BSC) is not potentially harmful? I went to OFCOM's Sitefinder where Base stations are listed and its not there. So I rang OFCOM and they iniatially said they had never heard of a BSC and registration of a site by and mobile company was voluntary. I asked how they could check that Operators were keeping within emission guidelines if they did'nt know where they were and was told they did not check! I then explained exactly what the BSC was supposed to do (as Above) and was then told it should be licensed and is dealt with by the "people upstairs" I asked who they were but she would not tell me. Instead she said I must send an email requesting information and that I could not be put through to any one else.
All of which seems a bit 'cloak and dagger'. So if any out there can tell if thet know anything about BSC's I would me most grateful. Comparing Masts to Light Bulbs

I remember this as Repacholi's argument, he compared a microwave radiation source to a light bulb (I think he was talking about cell phones then) his copyrights of this argument are now moved to an industry spokeswoman, this time masts are a bit like powerful light bulbs so the distance from residents is a non-issue, see below.

A group of concerned mothers plan to take their protest over a mobile phone mast to their local council.
The "Mothers Against the Mast" group from the Mordon area of Swindon will present councillors with a 300- signature petition next Wednesday.
Spokeswoman Karen Kelly said: "My main issue is my son's health. This action is so inconsiderate when people's health can be affected."
The mast, which is not yet operational, appeared at Acres Way on 9 March.
Commenting on a separate protest earlier this month, a Vodafone spokeswoman said it did not matter whether the masts were 1m or 1,000m away from residents - it was "all about power levels".
"We're talking about a power level of 150 watts, which is a bit like a powerful light bulb," she said.
"It's important to note: no mobile phone masts, no mobile phones."

Who ever would compare the power of a 150 watt light bulb to a mobile phone mast, should try sitting within 2 feet of a 150 watt light bulb for eight hours, and then try sitting 2 feet from a 150 watt mobile phone antenna for 8 hours. Lets challenge these brain dead's to prove their point!! This experiment could be very valuable as it kill two birds with one stone. After sitting 2 feet from a 150 watt antenna, with the switch in the ON position, they would more than likely come on side and agree that,
