Black box in your car could tattle to your insurer

Houston Chronicle

09/06/04

For two months, Jacob Sevlie's insurance company tagged along whenever he slid behind the wheel of his Honda Accord. ... Although privacy advocates say the gadget smacks of Big Brother, Sevlie signed up and sent monthly data in hopes of saving money on his insurance bill. In return, he got a $25 stipend and the promise of a 15 percent rate cut when the program launches...

Oberster Datenschützer kritisiert Ausländerzentralregister

Gegen generelle Speicherung: Oberster Datenschützer kritisiert Ausländerzentralregister

06.09.04

Handy-Ortungsdienste kommen in Mode

http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/inside/org/ministers/goggins.html.

http://www.trackyourkid.de/ .

Orwell Rolls in His Grave

"Could a media system, controlled by a few global corporations with the ability to overwhelm all competing voices, be able to turn lies into truth?..."

Director Robert Kane Pappas’ "Orwell Rolls In His Grave" is the consummate critical examination of the Fourth Estate, once the bastion of American democracy. Asking whether America has entered an Orwellian world of doublespeak where outright lies can pass for the truth, Pappas explores what the media doesn’t like to talk about: itself.

This is a must see documentary. Click here to watch it now! Real Video.

“Orwell Rolls in His Grave”: Great Concept, Flawed Film

“Orwell Rolls in His Grave” is an interesting but uneven new semi-documentary film by Robert Kane Pappas that examines the relationship between the 5 or so big media companies that manufacture our info-tainment “news” and the political operatives in Washington DC. The film is in limited release. Mr. Pappas gets high marks for reminding the audience of “forgotten” stories from the 24/7 news cycle and how the media often manufactures series of unimportant stories on trivial matters, while missing or simply failing to report stories that editors and news directors deem “too difficult” or “too complex” for the general public. The tools and techniques of propaganda are examined alongside the relationships between the politicians who regulate the media, and who, at the same time, are beholden to the media in order to get their faces and sound bites before their constituents. Pappas makes stunning use of timelines and quotes, as well as historical and literary references to reveal just how superficial, manipulative and down-right wrong “news” reporting is on a regular basis.

While thought provoking and worth the price of admission, the film is flawed by Mr. Pappas’s limited interviews and sources. A legitimate, thorough, documentary on such a complex topic as the Orwellian manipulation of our news and political discourse cannot rest solely on the interview of just one congressman (among other journalists and academics) – particularly when that congressman is Bernie Sanders, the "Independent” (Socialist) from Vermont. Does Mr. Pappas wish us to believe that no other congressman were willing to go on camera and talk about this subject? Doesn’t Mr. Pappas have an obligation to interview (or even attempt to interview -- a la’ Michael Moore) a broader cast of congressional characters?

ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE

Sag Harbor-Basement Pictures

Director Robert Kane Pappas’ ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE is the consummate critical examination of the Fourth Estate, once the bastion of American democracy. Asking whether America has entered an Orwellian world of doublespeak where outright lies can pass for the truth, Pappas explores what the media doesn’t like to talk about: itself. Meticulously tracing the process by which media has distorted and often dismissed actual news events, Pappas presents a riveting and eloquent mix of media professionals and leading intellectual voices on the media.

Among the cast of characters in ORWELL ROLLS IN HIS GRAVE are Charles Lewis, director of the Center for Public Integrity, Vincent Bugliosi, former L.A. prosecutor and legal scholar, film director and author Michael Moore, Rep. Bernie Sanders, Danny Schecter, author and former producer for ABC and CNN, and Tony Benn, former member of the British Parliament.

Spy-in-the-sky tags attacked as cheap alternative to jail

David Blunkett was accused yesterday of planning to use satellite technology to track criminals as a cheap alternative to jail. The Home Secretary gave the go-ahead for a pilot scheme involving around 120 offenders in three areas who will be fitted with tags and monitored through the Global Positioning System network.

He called the initiative - which could be extended to cover thousands of offenders - a "prison without bars". It will be used as an alternative to custody and to enforce licence conditions imposed on people, including sex offenders, released from jail. The idea was first floated several years ago by the Conservatives but Dominic Grieve, a Tory legal spokesman, questioned the Government's motives for bringing in the scheme yesterday.

"While we support the tagging of certain prisoners, David Blunkett should not tag prisoners and let them out of jail earlier simply as a way of freeing up space in our already overcrowded prisons," he said...

Welcome to the prison without bars

Satellite trackers mean police can watch offenders' every step "Every step you take, I'll be watching you," sang the pop trio, The Police, in 1983. Now the real law enforcement agency is using satellite technology to do just that. Officers will keep tabs on paedophiles, domestic abusers and other prolific criminals 24 hours a day, thanks to an innovative tracking scheme launched in three pilot areas in England yesterday.

A total of 120 offenders, 40 each in Greater Manchester, Hampshire, and the West Midlands, will be fitted with devices that can pinpoint their position to within two metres...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1296246,00.html

How tracking of offenders works

The satellite tracking of offenders being piloted by the government from Thursday allows their location to be pinpointed to within two metres. Offenders wear an electronic ankle tag with a wireless connection to a belt-worn device that transmits co-ordinates to the tracking system. An alarm is triggered if this device is separated from the anklet. Home Secretary David Blunkett has said satellite tracking technology could create a "prison without bars" where "first-time low-level non-violent offenders would actually be tracked rather than sent to short-term prison sentences". Several US states use satellite technology to monitor offenders' movements. Florida introduced the technology in 1998 and is the largest user, tracking around 3,000 criminals.

The technology will be used following an offender's release from prison or to ensure compliance with an exclusion order stopping an offender going to certain places.

Thought Control, Costas, the Olympics and Imperial Occupations Past and Present

by Paul Street

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you really want to see how the dominant corporate-state media manufactures mass consent to American racist, capitalist, militarist empire and inequality, you've got to look at sports, entertainment, and (for the lack of a better phrase right now) personal improvement media as well as the news media. Beyond its functions of mass diversion, distraction, and infantilization, the non-news media is loaded with authoritarian ideology, presented in ways that are every bit as significant (maybe more significant) as what goes on with the more officially propagandistic and openly Orwellian news and commentary wing. Take, for example, the ongoing US Olympics coverage, brought to us by NBC, a subsidiary of leading world “defense” contractor General Electric....

Before you go and see this just released movie which deals, in part, about a 20 year old - top secret / black government intelligence project known as "REMOTE VIEWING":

"...A series of chilling clues leads them to Benjamin O'Ryan (Ben Kingsley), trained in a government sponsored "Remote Viewing" program..."

Learn about the real aspects of our military's REMOTE VIEWING program found in the audio clip excerpts and links at the end of this post.

IT WILL BE ONE OF THE MOST STUNNING DISCLOSURES FEW OF US HAVE EVER HEARD!!!

Jack Topel

"When you are in a state of non-acceptance, it is difficult to learn. A clenched fist cannot receive a gift and a clenched psyche - grasped tightly against the reality of what must not be accepted - cannot, easily, receive a lesson". Roger John

TECHNICAL "REMOTE VIEWING"

In the early 90's, the ABC News NIGHTLINE program with Ted Koppel had a segment which revealed the existence of a 20 year old - top secret - military program called The "STARGATE" REMOTE VIEWING PROGRAM. To the best of our knowledge, this topic has not been brought up again by any main stream news media.

In 1995, President Clinton, in response to numerous freedoms of information requests, signed an executive order
http://www.irva.org/papers/CIA_RV_SRI.shtml releasing some of the information which acknowledged the existence of this secret program.

Idea of implanting ID tags raises Orwellian fears

There's not a lot of middle ground on the subject of implanting electronic identification chips in humans. Advocates of technologies like radio frequency identification tags say their potentially life-saving benefits far outweigh any Orwellian concerns about privacy. RFID tags sewn into clothing or even embedded under people's skin could curb identity theft, help identify disaster victims and improve medical care, they say. Critics, however, say such technologies would make it easier for government agencies to track a person's every movement and allow widespread invasion of privacy. Abuse could take countless other forms, including corporations surreptitiously identifying shoppers for relentless sales pitches.

Critics also speculate about a day when people's possessions will be tagged--allowing nosy subway riders with the right technology to examine the contents of nearby purses and backpacks.
