18) VERMONT 34
19=) IDAHO 32
20=) WISCONSIN 32 .

Notice there has been no change in the top ten - the heavy hitters go marching on. But there has been a lot of jiggling in the next ten positions. Illinois jumps over Kansas to take up tied 11th position with Pennsylvania. Michigan squeezes past Hawaii to go to the 15th spot. Colorado jumps from nowhere to enter the top 20 for the first time at the 17th spot. Wisconsin jumps over Idaho, Montana and Vermont to take up the eighteenth position.

Please urge your friends not to sign anonymously, without a comment it scores no points. With a comment it scores one point. A comment with a name scores two points. I don' think "anonymous" without a comment will cut much ice with legislators.

The voting is definitely slowing down - I am hoping for a bigger day tomorrow.

Save Tennessee's Mountains

Please forward and circulate far and wide.

If you love mountains please contact the Governor of Tennessee! phil.bredesen@state.tn.us

Governor Bredesen can halt Mountain Top strip mining
(AKA Mountain Top Removal) in Tennessee if he has the political pressure = You call telling him to save Tennessee’s mountains.

We need people to contact the Governor of Tennessee and express themselves regarding Mountain Top Removal in Tennessee. Bredesen billed himself as an “environmental governor” and we need him to take a position and get off the fence about Mountain Top Removal in Tennessee.

http://www.state.tn.us/governor/Conservation.do

Governor Bredesen is presiding over what is the start of the greatest ecological destruction in the 200 million year old geologic history of the Appalachia Mountains. Governor Bredesen is governor during a period where watersheds which would provide clean drinking water for another 10,000 years are destroyed. Yet during this period of catastrophic damage to Tennessee’s watersheds Gov. Bredesen remains silent—refusing to act. Every day Bredesen sits on the fence the process of cross ridge destruction accelerates. Every day Bredesen remains silent the waters of Tennessee get another choking load of sediment. http://unitedmountaindefense.org/

Tennessee mountains are becoming a national sacrifice zone. When the price of coal doubled the watch began ticking for Tennessee’s mountains. President Bush says that America has enough coal to supply America’s energy needs for another 260 years. What he doesn’t tell you is we will have to level all of our mountains to do so, and in 260 years with the human population increasing the watersheds those mountains represent will be more valuable to future generations than coal, you cannot drink coal.

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,6903,1153513,00.html http://ipsnews.net/interna.asp?idnews=22410 http://unitedmountaindefense.org/facts.php

TDEC (the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation) is granting mining permits that adversely impact the waters of Tennessee. If Bredesen ordered TDEC to enforce existing state law strip mining in Tennessee would stop—all forms. Shortly after our last contact request the Commissioner of TDEC became the former Commissioner of TDEC, your letters and calls have impact.
http://www.state.tn.us/environment/

The Tennessee Water Quality Control Act (Tenn. Code Ann. §§ 69-3-101 to -137 ) forbids issuing permits for activities that pollute the waters of the state. Mountain top removal blows up the mountains layer by layer, destroying everything that lives in them.

Coal does not own Tennessee’s general assembly or governor—the
construction industry does. Tourism is a close second, strip-mining mountain tops kill’s tourism deader than raid.

Email, call and phone Bredesen. Please be polite but express you dissent to the destruction of Tennessee’s mountains. Be especially polite if you speak with any of the secretaries and clerks that do allot of the states actual work. But Bredesen needs to know that people all over the nation are watching right now to see if he acts to save our mountains.

You can find material to talk and write him about at our website at (unitedmountaindefense.org). Tennessee is a good ole boy state at its foundation. If Bredesen decides he wants to end MTR he can—he just needs the political willpower i.e. us.

The internet provides an unprecedented opportunity to tell as many people as possible about the destruction of highland watersheds. If you love mountains call Bredesen. This is not a plea for money—Tennessee’s mountains need you to call Bredesen.

Help Stop Global warming

Got two more minutes? We've just started marching and we need your help to keep spreading the word. Tell your friends, your family, your co-workers, everyone you know to join us on the virtual march.

Strength in numbers is a simple fact. And we need you to spread this along for a simple reason. Despite mounting scientific evidence, the United States is still dragging its feet to take action to address the problem.

As a member of the Stop Global Warming Virtual March on Washington, you receive your own personal web page where you can invite your friends to join you on the March, track your progress and those of your invitees and share why you think it's time for us to stop global warming.

Visit your page often to invite your friends, family and colleagues to join the March. And please take the time to let us know why you are marching.

Over the next year, we'll be featuring stories from people like you who have busy daily lives, kids to feed, and mountains to climb. But you're still taking time to get involved. Because it is that important.

Thanks again for speaking out against this critical problem.

Laurie David, Founder

Thankyou for marching!

Tell Wal-Mart Enough is Enough

One after another, the scandals emerge revealing Wal-Mart's ruthless campaign against workers' rights.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/154065406

When Wal-Mart employees attempt to stand up for themselves and try to form a union, they face threats, propaganda, discrimination, intimidation, and even firings.

Is this any way to treat employees who just want to negotiate for better wages, more affordable health care, and basic protections on the job?

It's a struggle of epic proportions: 1.3 million employees versus Wal- Mart. College students, single parents, the elderly—barely making enough to cross the poverty line, competing against the world's largest employer and corporation—raking in $10,000,000,000 in profits last year. Clearly, Wal-Mart can afford to do the right thing and treat its workers with the respect they deserve. The question is, will it?

It's time to demand Wal-Mart stop denying its employees a voice at work. Tell Wal-Mart enough is enough!

Signatures: 28,175 Goal: 50,000 Deadline: Ongoing...

WHERE TO BUY YOUR GAS

From: Meria Heller To: Undisclosed-Recipient:;

Subject: where to buy your gas - courtesy of Bob Chapman - The International Forecaster

WHERE TO BUY YOUR GAS,

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW.

READ ON--

Why didn't George W. think of this?

Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought it to boycott their GAS.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell............................ 205,742,000 barrels

Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels

Exxon/Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels

Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels

Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Citgo.....................0 barrels

Sunoco..................0 barrels

Conoco...................0 barrels

Sinclair..................0 barrels

BP/Phillips..............0 barrels

Hess.......................0 barrels

ARC0.......................0 barrels

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do.

Now, don't wimp out at this point .. keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I'm sending this note to about thirty people.

If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it.

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.

Please help the people on Taiwan: Sign this petition

http://www.petitiononline.com/migrants/petition.html

Late on Sunday August 21, 2005 a violent riot erupted by more than 1,600 ethnic, migrant workers building a mass transit railway project in Kaohsiung Taiwan. Workers set fire to their dormitory in southern Taiwan, burnt cars and hurled rocks at police after some were apprehended. There are estimated between 300,000 to 500,000 migrant workers on Taiwan many of whom are tricked into working on Taiwan with offers of lucrative jobs only to find themselves as slaves to "contractors" and "agents" on Taiwan.

Below is a petition the the Director General Juan Somaviaf of the International Labour Organization to immediately take appropriate actions to investigate the ongoing atrocities being perpetrated by the Taiwanese against ethnic minority workers on Taiwan.

http://www.petitiononline.com/migrants/petition.html

"To: The Honorable, Director General Juan Somaviaf of the International Labour Organization

We, the undersigned organizations, institutions, churches and individuals appeal to the Director General Juan Somaviaf of the International Labour Organization to immediately take appropriate actions to investigate the cause of the most recent violent riot by ethnic, migrant workers that erupted late on Sunday August 21, 2005 by more than 1,600 migrant workers building a mass transit railway project in Kaohsiung Taiwan. We demand that Council of Labor Affairs Chairwoman Chen Chu (ÄĵÆ) be removed and expelled from that position for her gross dereliction of her duties. Specifically to timely investigate and provide appropriate assistance to the hundreds of thousands of migrant workers currently in the Taiwan area. We are appealing to the Director General Juan Somaviaf of the International Labour Organization to investigate the current maltreatment of migrant workers in the Taiwan area and to refer said findings to the International Court of Justice. We call for the formation of an independent oversight institution composed of migrant workers in the Taiwan area to take positive actions to prevent further violence as well as extend free, timely, appropriate and full assistance to all distressed migrant workers. Labor standards for migrant workers in the Taiwan area fall below the minimum standards of basic labor rights in terms of freedom of association, the right to organize, collective bargaining, equality of opportunity and treatment, housing, facilities for recreation, cultural expression and other standards regulating conditions across the entire spectrum of work related issues. We seek the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labor rights for all migrants in the Taiwan area. The decision to migrate, in the same way as the decision to authorize or not to authorize migration for employment is an rational decision, based on knowledge of the conditions of work and life in the areas of employment and is needed to remedy general or sectoral labor shortages. Provisions for the protection of migrant workers do, themselves, have effects on the protection of the entire workforce that in protecting migrant workers against exploitation and stipulating first and foremost the principle of equality of treatment, followed by equality of opportunity and treatment with non migrant workers. The powers that be, in the Taiwan area fail to implement instruments and fulfill their obligation to apply, without discrimination in respect of nationality, race, religion or sex, to immigrants lawfully within Taiwan area. We demand the protection of human rights for all migrant workers and an end to state sponsored discrimination, contemporary forms of slavery, indentured servitude and forced labor in the Taiwan area. Director General, the time to act is now. Migrants' rights are human rights!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned "
