With the deadline for appeal fast approaching, Tsawwassen Residents Against High Voltage Overhead Lines (TRAHVOL) are scrambling to decide whether or not to contest the July 7 decision.

“It’s going to be a last minute decision at this point,” said co-chair Cecil Dunn. “We’ve been consulting our lawyers and figuring out where to take this, but there’s a lot of things that have to be considered.”

TRAHVOL has recommended that the power lines be placed underneath a city street route, which would result in no visual pollution and greatly reduce the potential health impacts of electromagnetic fields (EMF).

I have got some health statistics from the Danish NHS. That start in 1994 (the year the mobile was introduced there). They show: General pollution: down, Fertilizers used in farming: Down. Illnesses Up, and I mean UP. Drug use: Up.

I am working a translation of it, but the curves talk their own language.

Alan Preece carried out an exercise using postcodes in relation to powerline fields, and published it at a BEMS meeting a year or so ago.

On another matter, I see that Eva Markova et al (2005) from Stockholm University and the Karolinska were able to demonstrate in vitro that GSM frequencies coiuld induce apoptosis in cells (human lymphocytes). This important study appeared in the prestigious Environmental Health Perspectives, but dont think either the media or the protest groups noticed it. So far it hasnt been replicated, but if anyone has £16,000 to spare we could do that at this lab.

Native American tribes along the Klamath River rallied in Portland on Wednesday for the removal of four hydroelectric dams that block salmon from spawning in their historic habitat upriver. The tribes said they intend to pressure the governors of Oregon and California to help push for removal of the dams.
