(About the mobile phones) Recent research in India shows that people who use a mobile phone have 40% damaged cells, against 10% in people without a mobile phone. People who use a mobile phone have five times more micronuclei than people without a mobile phone. This relates to the findings about brain cancer and mobile phone use after ten years.

Swiss study

In the Dutch newspaper 'Reformatorisch Daglbad' an article appeared on 7 June 2006.

Prof. dr. ir. Peter Zwamborn criticizes the words of Minister Van Geel, who said the Swiss study showed unambiguously that UMTS (3G) radiation is safe.

Zwamborn, leader of the 2003 TNO Cofam study: "That is too short. The study is about short term effects. Nobody knows the long term effects yet."

He says the Swiss study is done well. But he would like to have more information about the corrective factors. "If a result does not fall within a certain range, it may be not used, because of the thought the observation is false. How this study manages this aspect, is not clear to me."

For a more conclusive evaluation of the questions at hand other follow up studies must be awaited and more research is needed." [as ever!]

But, yes, always watch out for "improvements" in replication studies. More people, that's fine; a better sample size. But different signal levels are not strictly replication, bearing non-linearity in mind.

Nor am I sure why beaming a mini-signal at a distance, 45 degrees to the back of the head is the chosen exposure method.

But "EHP online" seems a robust medium for publication, rather than a colluder, so serious follow-up comment can go that way.

8 June 2006 - In The Netherlands, after the results of the Swiss study were published, resistance against UMTS/3G continues.

The environmentologists of all health services (GGDs) in The Netherlands disagree with the installation procedures for masts for mobile communication.

Nobody should be confronted without a mast in his environment without his given permission, says Fred Woudenberg, head of the department of environmental medicine of the GGD Amsterdam and president of the section of environmentologists of all 36 GGDs in The Netherlands. The worries of people about the masts and possible effects on health should be a main factor in the decision making, says Woudenberg.

He says the results of the Swiss study, though serious scientific research, have no meaning as for the possible health risks of permanent exposure.

Woudenberg does not speak as a person, but as the spokesman of all the environmentologists working with GGDs, says his colleague Matthijs Veldt.

Until now municipalities do not value the worries about health risks. When a provider asks permission to build a mast, the only criterium is if the masts fits into the spatial plans.

Swiss study 3G or UMTS

There are more "replications" from the TNO study on the way: another whitewashing study paid by the Danish research council (taxpayers). The results are given on beforehand. This is the usual procedure in the socalled replication studies.´They are never replications, but always a totally different study. This is to make sure that the outcome is "no effects".

Keine Probleme mit der Strahlung an australischer Universität

Aufgrund von Besorgnis um die Gesundheit hat die australische RMIT University Strahlenmessungen auf dem Dach und in mehreren Stockwerken des Gebäudes durchgeführt, in denen gehäuft Krebserkrankungen aufgetreten waren. Wie unabhängige Experten für Messungen mitteilten, zeigten die Tests im 16. und 17. Stockwerk sowie auf dem Dach der RMIT University keine Besonderheiten. Die Messungen wurden von EMC Technologies, AMCOSH, Kilpatrick and Associates, und der australischen Gesellschaft für Strahlenschutz und Reaktorsicherheit (Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency, ARPANSA) durchgeführt, die dabei verschiedene potenzielle Gefahrenbereiche, wie z. Auf dem Gebäude befinden sich 15 Mobilfunkantennen und eine Hochspannungsleitung verläuft direkt daneben. - Dieser Arbeitsplatz macht krank - So sehen es jedenfalls die Mitarbeiter des städtischen Ausgleichsamts in Aachen. Hier sind von 24 Mitarbeitern 8 an Krebs erkrankt, 3 Kollegen sind in den vergangenen Jahren bereits an dieser Krankheit gestorben. Als Ursache für die ungewöhnlich hohe Zahl von Krebsfällen wird Elektrosmog vermutet. Auf dem Dach des Gebäudes sind 15 Mobilfunkantennen installiert. Erste Hinweise gab es schon vor 2 Jahren, mit 6 Tumoren und einem Toten, als Amtsleiter Krämer Alarm schlug. Prof. Michael [Jiri?] Silny, Leiter des Aachenern Forschungszentrums für Elektromagnetische Umweltverträglichkeit hält Elektrosmog als Auslöser für Unwahrscheinlich. "Nach dem aktuellen Wissensstand kann man sagen dass kein ursächlicher Zusammenhang zwischen dem Alltagsfeldern wie wir sie antreffen und dem Krebs entstehen belegt werden kann. Es gibt zwar einzelne Publikationen die so was darstellen, aber in Wiederholungen konnte dieser Effekt nicht belegt werden".

Untersuchungen hätten ergeben, dass manche Menschen schon bei relativ geringer Strahlung, wie sie vermutlich in den Stadien auftreten wird, beeinträchtigt werden. Es können Kopfschmerzen, Konzentrationsstörungen und Übelkeit auftreten. Buchner wies darauf hin, dass während des kalten Krieges die Botschaft der USA in Moskau jahrzehntelang mit Mikrowellen bestrahlt wurde, um die Arbeitsfähigkeit der Diplomaten zu beeinträchtigen. Die Gefahr bestehe, dass die Spieler nicht in der Lage sind, ihre Höchstleistungen zu bringen. Buchner appelliert an die Veranstalter, die Fußballer diesen Risiken nicht auszusetzen. Außerdem fordert Buchner die Veranstalter auf dafür zu sorgen, dass in den Schlafquartieren der Spieler die Strahlung 50 µW/m2 nicht überschreitet. Während des Schlafs wird das Stresshormon Melatonin erzeugt, dessen Produktion durch Mikrowellen beeinträchtigt wird. Die Reaktionsfähigkeit der Spieler kann dadurch bei besonders hohen Anforderungen gemindert werden.

Physiker warnt vor Strahlung in WM-Stadien

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

für einige WM-Stadien wird mit der Aussage geworben, dass dort viele Besucher gleichzeitig mit ihren Handys telefonieren können sowie E-mails, Bilder usw. mit hohen Datenraten empfangen und verschicken können. Das ergibt zwangsläufig eine hohe Mikrowellen-Bestrahlung von Spielern und Besuchern. Eine weitere Belastung ergibt sich möglicherweise durch Richtfunkstrecken der Fernseh-Übertragungswägen, wenn diese auch meist mit Satellitenfunk arbeiten. Als Physiker rate ich, folgende Tatsachen zu berücksichtigen:

1. Die US-Botschaft in Moskau wurde vom Ende der 40er Jahre an etwa 30 Jahre lang mit Mikrowellen bestrahlt, die ähnliche Eigenschaften wie die Strahlen in den Stadien besaßen. Zweck dieser Aktion war es, die Leistungsfähigkeit der Botschaftsangehörigen zu verringern und ihre Befindlichkeit zu stören, d.h. u.a. Kopfschmerzen, Konzentrationsschwäche und Übelkeit zu erzeugen. Nach der „Lilienfeld-Studie von 1984 (United States Enviromental Protection Agency, EPA-Nr. 600/8-83-026 F, zitiert nach der Schweizer BUWAL-Studie) betrug die Bestrahlung außen am Gebäude der Botschaft lediglich 50 mW/m2, in seinem Inneren abseits von den Fenstern daher höchstens einige mW/m2. Das ist eine ähnliche Größenordnung, wie ich sie in unseren WM-Stadien erwarte. Erfahrungsgemäß beeinträchtigt eine kurzzeitige Bestrahlung mit diesen Feldstärken die meisten Menschen nicht. Die Wirkung ist jedoch individuell sehr unterschiedlich. Da die Befindlichkeitsstörungen mit der Dauer der Bestrahlung zunehmen, ist es eine sinnvolle Vorsichtsmaßnahme, dass sich die Spieler möglichst kurze Zeit in den Stadien und in deren unmittelbarer Umgebung aufhalten. Nur so lässt sich sicherstellen, dass alle Spieler ihre Höchstleistung bringen können.

2. Bestrahlung durch Mobilfunk während des Schlafs bewirkt eine Verringerung der Melatonin-Ausschüttung. Melatonin ist ein Hormon, das das Verhalten des Körpers in Stresssituationen steuert, das aber auch eine wichtige Rolle für das Immunsystem spielt. Deshalb empfehle ich dafür zu sorgen, dass am Schlafplatz der Spieler die Bestrahlung durch Mikrowellen (Mobilfunk, Richtfunk usw.) deutlich unter 50 µW/m2 bleibt. Da in vielen anderen Ländern Mikrowellen kein Problem darstellen und die Teams deshalb nicht darauf vorbereitet sind, halte ich es für ein Gebot der Fairness, eine ähnliche Empfehlung für unsere Gäste zu veröffentlichen.

Health effects appear to vary depending on distance, field strenth and other factors in regard to appliances, electric meters, electrical wiring, cell phones, telecommunications' antennae, wireless, cell phones, high voltage powerlines, etc.

Every health problem all the way from poor sleep to cancer is linked to low levels of EMR (electromagnetic radiation). Nightime exposures such as sleeping close to electric clocks, electric clock radios, monitors, certain lamps, power supply boxes for cordless phones, other telephone equipment and more are particularly hazardous. Initial symptoms often include poor quality of sleep/wakefulness, various allergies, asthma, headaches, sinus infections and may evolve into more serious diseases including (but not limited to) CFS, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, Lou Gehrig's Disease, Alzheimers, various cancers and particularly childhood Leukaemia!

Two of my grandsons (cousins living in different cities) were diagnosed with rare immune deficiencies (rare because their cells were "ageing"). Both boys improved dramatically after their beds were moved away from walls opposite electric metes ("powerwalls"). The boys suffered from chronic asthma, chronic sinus infections, ear infections, allergies, gastrointestinal problems, etc. We were told they may develop Leukaemia or other cancers. We were asked if children had died in the family. No genetic link was found.....

On two separate occasions, I placed cages with two guinea pigs each against our own back bedroom wall opposite the electric meter ("powerwall"). Like our grandsons, the guinea pigs quickly developed ASTHMA (confirmed by three veterinarians). One out of each set of two guinea pigs died within 30 days of exposure. In a human infant, cause of death would be listed as 'SIDS." CBC's with differentials identified severe neutropenia, lymphocytosis and hypersegmented neutrophils (slowed DNA synthesis). One guinea pig died 3 years later from Reactive Renal Amyloidosis (lived in our basement near waterpipes measuring approximately 4.5 milligauss and other unhealthy frequencies from high voltage powerlines).

You are doing a great job of identifying sources of health problems but specific references on your website as well as perhaps some sort of public media announcements and/or pamphlets or flyers posted and distributed, will go a long way toward helping with what I refer to as "an avoidable healthcare crisis!"

All electric items should be removed from close proximity to one's bed. Warnings are needed regarding all electric clocks, clock radios, monitors, fans, some lamps, power supply boxes for cordless phones, other telephone equipment and more. Obviously separate mention regarding electric meters is very important.

Here in the U.S., I refer persons to Baubiologist Oram Miller ( http://www.createhealthyhomes.com ) for in-home evaluations regarding improper wiring, grounding problems, etc., as well as body voltage measurements.

In the UK, I recommend contact with Dr. Alasdair Philips ( http://www.powewatch.org.uk ) regarding EMF mitigation.
