On 6 July, the leaders of the world's eight richest nations will gather in Gleneagles, Scotland for the annual G8 Summit. The G8 countries must show real commitment to tackle climate change, but there is a danger that the US President will prevent the Summit from agreeing to concrete action.
G8 countries represent just 13% of the world's population, but they account for 45% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions - almost half of the emissions that cause climate change.
Take action and urge G8 leaders to stand up to the US President and make saving the climate a priority.

Besides President Bush, all the other leaders attending the Summit have clearly stated they believe climate change is real and have ratified the Kyoto Protocol. However some leaders have been strangely silent on climate change in the run up to the meeting. German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Canadian Prime minister Paul Martin, in particular, have said very little and WWF is concerned that they will not resist US moves to water down G8 initiatives. Jedes Jahr verenden mehr als 300.000 Delfine, Tümmler und Wale ungewollt in Fischernetzen - weit mehr Tiere als den Harpunen der Walfänger zum Opfer fallen. Nach Einschätzung des WWF ist der so genannte Beifang inzwischen die größte Bedrohung für die Meeressäuger. Viele Kleinwalarten sind dadurch vom Aussterben bedroht, zu diesem Ergebnis kommt eine jetzt vorgelegte WWF Studie. Besonders betroffen sind der Kalifornische Hafenschweinswal, der Schweinswal in der Ostsee und die asiatischen Flussdelfine im Mekong, Ganges oder Yangtse Fluss.
