Am 3. Dezember 2008 haben die elf Mitglieder der BioInitiative-Gruppe die führenden Epidemiologen in Australien, Kanada, Israel, Italien und Neuseeland um ihre "Kooperation bei der Veröffentlichung der Studienergebnisse in naher Zukunft" gebeten. Das, so die Arbeitsgruppe weiter, "wird Wissenschaftler und andere Experten, die nicht direkt in die Interphone-Studie involviert sind, in die Lage versetzen, das gesamte Bild der Ergebnisse ohne weitere Verzögerung zu bekommen."

Major research initiatives are needed immediately to assess the possibility that using cellular phones may lead to an increased risk of brain tumors, according to an editorial in the November issue of the journal Surgical Neurology.

Recent studies have raised concerns that long-term exposure to electromagnetic fields (ELF) from cell-phone handsets can increase the risk of brain cancers and other nervous system tumors, according to the editorial by Dr. Ron Pawl, a neurosurgeon at Lake Forest Hospital, Lake Forest, Ill. He calls for collaborative research initiatives to determine whether the link between cell phones and brain cancer is real.

It's supposed to be the mother of all studies into cellphones and their potential link to head cancers, a definitive report that the multibillion-dollar wireless industry has partially funded.

But the published analysis of the 13-country Interphone study is two years late and likely to be delayed further as the more than 50 scientists involved bicker over how to interpret the results, knowing full well that any hint at health risks would have a profound impact on the industry.

Passive Exposure to Mobile Phones: Enhancement of Intensity by Reflection
Interesting study from 2006, published in the Journal of the Physical Society of Japan:

"In a recent Letter [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 71 (2002) 432], we reported a preliminary calculation and concluded that public exposure to mobile phones can be enhanced by microwave reflection in public spaces. In this paper, we confirm the significance of microwave reflection reported in our previous Letter by experimental and numerical studies. Furthermore, we show that "hot spots" often emerge in reflective areas, where the local exposure level is much higher than average. Such places include elevators, and we discuss other possible environments including trains, buses, cars, and airplanes. Our results indicate the risk of "passive exposure" to microwaves."
