Filling The Swamp

Friday, October 15, 2004, 10:31 AM

Rami G. Khouri

Last week, the terrorists bombed hotels in Taba, Egypt. This week, the anti-terrorists bombed residences in Fallujah. Rami Khoury says that a strategy based on bombing and invading countries shows how complete American ignorance is of what is really going on. Without a strategy to deal with the root causes of terror, we're simply ensuring more bombs, more beheadings and more American barbarism in response.

Deconstructing the war on terror

A cursory look both at the Bush administration's record and the neo-con agenda for the future reveals instead that Bush/Cheney are using September 11 as an excuse to attack weak states that interfere with an extreme right-wing world view and with US corporate interests...

No plan, no problem

by Ezra Klein

Pandagon

10/12/04

"[T]he real affront to reality is that ending terrorism isn't a plan-friendly enterprise. It's not like health care where you create a system of tax credits, institutions and bulk-buying mandates to lower costs. No, fighting terrorism is a combination of principles and competence. The principles are simple: don't negotiate with terrorists, kill them when possible, erase the conditions that allow them to flourish, encourage democracy and transparency, improve America's image in the Arab world, devote the appropriate resources to intercepting their plans and protecting against their attacks, and generally doing what every serious person in every serious speech advocates. It's really all in Richard Clarke's book and, to be quite honest, the book really isn't that complex. Even a Republican could read it...

Playing Politics With Reform

THE HOUSE OF Representatives' version of intelligence reform might be dismissed as an election-year stunt were it not so dangerous. One section would relax restrictions on deporting people who may face torture at home, in violation of an international treaty to which this country is a party. Other sections, authorizing new surveillance powers in terrorism cases and changing the definition of criminal support for terrorist groups, may have merit but involve complex and highly controversial policy changes that warrant debate.

The Oil Factor : Behind the War on Terror

ANYBODY CAN PLAINLY SEE THAT BUSH INVADED IRAQ FOR ITS OIL !

NOW do you know that :

* at the current production rate, North America and Western Europe will run out of oil in 2010 ?

* One million U.S. military personnel are deployed overseas near oil fields and oil routes ?

* U.S. military deployment in Afghanistan and Central Asia blocks China and Russia from accessing oil and natural gas they desperately need for their economies ?

Is invading foreign countries the solution to reducing terrorist threats against the United States ? Since George Bush’s invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, Islamic fundamentalists are recruiting more than ever and acts of terrorism have multiplied around the world.

Now Dick Cheney claims that "the American way of life is not negotiable". The real question becomes: is invading foreign countries the acceptable way to ensure that the average American can go on consuming 4 times more energy that the average European or 32 times more energy than the average African ?

After spending three months in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, Free-Will assesses the catastrophic results of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush Jr.’s attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan. THE OIL FACTOR looks at both the human cost and the greater geo-strategic picture of these invasions that may precipitate the world toward the next global conflict.

Filled with solid facts and figures, easy-to-understand maps, original footage shot in Iraq and Afghanistan and interviews of such personalities as Zbigniew Brzezinski, Noam Chomsky, The Project for the New American Century Director Gary Schmitt, best-seller "Taliban" author Ahmed Rashid or Pentagon’s Karen Kwiatkowski, THE OIL FACTOR is a must-see for anyone who wants to understand what is really at stake with today’s "war-on-terror". It is a must-see also for anyone who wants to convince friends and family that another four years of such war may NOT be in the best interest of the American people and that of the world.
