Where Is the (North) American Press?

A friend from Argentina sent me the following picture today. It is self explanatory and has been seen everywhere in the world except in the United States. Why? In analyzing Bush for several years I keep finding that it is not only his immediate circle that insulates him -- the press insulates us.

John Kerry probably would be president of the United States today

What Judy forgot: Your right to know

THE MOST intriguing revelation of Special Prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald's news conference last week was his assertion that he would have presented his indictment of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby a year ago if not for the intransigence of reporters who refused to testify before the grand jury. He said that without that delay, "we would have been here in October 2004 instead of October 2005." Had that been the case, John Kerry probably would be president of the United States today.

The coverup worked:

NO ONE really noticed, but Patrick Fitzgerald made an unassailable point last week about the timing of the indictment that his CIA leak investigation has produced so far. - The prosecutor was in effect showing that the quixotic pursuit of a nonexistent right or privilege by some news organizations is one reason President Bush was reelected last year.

Amnesty concerned by new claims against US soldiers in Afghanistan

New claims of abuses by US soldiers in Afghanistan are more evidence of rights violations in the "war on terror", with a pattern of impunity for such infractions, Amnesty International said.

Companies Use Bankruptcy Laws to Force Bigger Givebacks, Break Unions

Employers in heavily-unionized US industries are turning to bankruptcy courts as a strategy for gutting union contracts. Their goal: to impose layoffs and givebacks even deeper than the ones agreed to during concessions of the early 1980s.

The Sum of Alito Fears

Environmentalists are alarmed at Samuel Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court. He has demonstrated a judicial philosophy of limiting the scope of federal legislation based on the Commerce Clause, which is the basis for nearly every major federal environmental law in the US.
