The GOP's culture of corruption

AlterNet
by Stephen Pizzo

Only now is the general public starting to learn just how corruption swept through the GOP ranks after the party's rise to majority status in the 1990s. But it didn't happen all at once. And it didn't begin yesterday. It began over eleven years ago. I stumbled across evidence of the GOP's spreading cancer of corruption back in early 2002 while picking through the still-smoldering ashes of Enron. In fact, it may be proven some day that Tom DeLay was a creation of Enron -- but more on that later. While prosecutors are only now beginning to peel back the layers of corruption involving the GOP's top gun, Tom DeLay and his gang, it was clear long ago to any reporter willing to take the time to look that these guys were up to no good...

The fog of partisan politics

The American State has actually been dissolving its own philosophic foundations for many years. Paradoxically, the smaller and less powerful the State was, the more enduring it was. Feelings for country, place, region, and people run far stronger than feelings for the American State. At some point, a shock may occur. A rare event, a giant political earthquake might happen, such as New Hampshire seceding from the Union. Or perhaps over a period of time, a series of shocks will occur whose cumulative effect is to melt what remains of that comfortable political shield. Liberty, American style

Liberty For All
by Ed Lewis

Notice that JFK talked about the survival and success of liberty. But, those in leadership positions now talk about 'democracy,' and even attack other countries killing thousands while trying to impose democracy on them. The American people believe themselves to be free, to be living in liberty as we human beings were meant to live, while at the same time obeying every edict put out by those in government. Does the reader not find such to be in diametric (absolute) opposition?

Congressman Pete Stark: The War on Our Children

Funding a war in Iraq and providing tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans does more damage than Republicans in Congress care to admit. As they clamor on about patriotism, their funding priorities are costing America its future.
