JACKSON STATE FOREST bill (SB 1648)

Two extremely critical and quietly revolutionary forest protection bills have passed most of the hurdles in the state legislature--and now is the critical time to really push for the HERITAGE TREE bill (SB 754) to pass the state assembly (vote is on WEDNESDAY), and to pressure the Governor to sign the JACKSON STATE FOREST bill (SB 1648)--which just passed the assembly--into law (he could easily back those hacks at CDF and veto it, but we have until Sep 10 on this one).

Heritage Tree bill. Email Your Assembly member (go to
http://www.assembly.ca.gov to find out who she or he is), and call Fabian Nunez, Assembly Speaker at 916-319-2046 and Dario Frommer, Majority Leader at 916-319-2043 and ask them to support this bill! I just called the them and they are counting the calls!!! For more information visit http://www.ancienttrees.org or call (510) 444-4710 x312.

Jackson State Forest. Go to http://www.jacksonaction.org to automatically send a fax to Arnold and find out more about this important bill! Or email him at governor@governor.ca.gov!!!

With the fever of Iraq, the RNC, and the upcoming elections, it's difficult, but please take a short moment for our forests. These bills are critical steps toward a very different mentality around the environment--we are very close to passing them. The Heritage Tree bill says that there are some things more important than private property rights; the Jackson State Forest bill puts the will of the people over that of the agency and Big Timber. With your help, they will pass!!!

More Soon!

IT IS TIME TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK

There is no question that the future of our country, all of us, and of the world is hanging in the balance. G.W. Bush must be defeated this November.

I have been making informational flyers that have been used by a multitude of agencies, political advocacy groups, community organizers and individuals to get the truth out about G.W. Bush. To date, 2.7 million copies have been distributed throughout the US, 33 foreign countries, 67 universities and over a dozen US bases. I have been posting these on poles and in windshields in my community, as well as handing them out in public places, registration tables, etc.

I have a new tri-fold flyer available that is a Recap of Bush's Crimes against our people, nation and the world.

If you would like a copy, just email me directly.

I am currently pushing that as much information get out in these final months as possible. I have the following flyers available (of course, at NO COST!).

1. Recap of Bush's 4 years.

2. Letter to your neighborhood Republican

3. African American Issues

4. Worst President in U.S. History

Please don't post your request in the group as it fills many peoples mailboxes that don't want it. I'm sure the moderator will thank you.

This is an easy way to be actively involved in overthrowing the most overtly dishonest president in our country's history.

To see which cities in your area it's been distributed or where they need this information. Go to our website, click on the "maps" and click on your state.

Enact change. Vote.

Republicans at work: Voters beware

At a time when all of the electronic voting systems that were eligible for recertification (i.e., Republican giveaways) in California have been recertified (thanks for nothing, literally Mr. Shelley), now there's this gem from Citizens for Legitimate Government. We all need to beware, even those of us in "safe" states like California, nothing is safe, no one's vote is safe and the power-mad in the three branches of our Republican republican Federalist federal government will do anything at all to stay in power. They've proven that they can subvert the votes by intimidation (Florida, 2000 and ever since), harassment, outright poll interference (Tennessee, 2000) and now using the wide open back doors in the electronic voting systems voting AND COUNTING machines to change results.

I like the egg idea, and if they steal this one again, read the rest....

Bush bees: Kerry signs stolen, trashed (FL) Yard signs promoting the Democratic presidential candidate and running mate John Edwards have been stolen and vandalized by the hundreds... Early Sunday morning in the Cordova Park neighborhood, 27 pro-Kerry signs were stolen in what Panhandle for Kerry Chairman Jerry Hot called a "surgical strike."

Imperial hubris must end if we are to have anything like a democracy or republic in this country. America needs to go on the No Carb diet: no more
Cheney
Ashcroft
Rumsfeld
Bush
and no Rice.

Vote by mail - your vote WILL be counter, but we ALL need to do it to create a paper trail. Be sure to photocopy your ballot before returning it. Do this EVEN IF YOU ARE IN A PAPER VOTING PRECINCT - you can't photocopy the ballot in the polling place.

Vote by mail and vote early. If you don't trust the mail, hand deliver the mail-in ballot to your Registrar of Voters. You're allowed to do that.

If you vote by mail early, you can help volunteer at the polls or just watch at the polls to make sure no one is intimidated.

This is our last chance. We have to make it count.

Protect Quebec’s Rupert River

Join Cree people in taking action to protect Quebec’s Rupert River!

Wildcanada.net Action Alert
Thursday, August 26, 2004

Freddy Jolly, leading a group of Cree people, completed his campaigning walk of 456km to raise awareness and to mobilize support to protect the last untouched river accessible by road in James Bay - the mighty Rupert River. Mr. Jolly, his fellow walkers and supporters, seek to liberate the Rupert River from large scale dam projects planned by Hydro-Quebec and its private partners. Last year Wildcanada.net and Earthwild International selected the Rupert and Eastmain Rivers as Canada’s 2nd most endangered rivers.

Take action now at http://www.endangeredrivers.net/eastmain and join the Cree people in the fight to protect the Rupert and Eastmain rivers from devastating hydroelectric developments.

According to Freddy Jolly, the Rupert River has nourished, transported and charmed generations of Cree, as well as thousands of North Americans. Both the Rupert and the Eastmain flow through the traditional homelands of the Cree people, and are within a remote, nearly pristine landscape filled with thousands of lakes, and numerous impressive rivers. The area boasts a rich cultural history with many of the traditional pathways of Canada’s first fur traders still intact and in use. They are two of the largest rivers in the James Bay area of northern Quebec and support dozens of species such as walleye, yellow sturgeon, great northern pike, bald eagle, osprey, bear, moose, and woodland caribou.

With great pressure for continued expansion of hydropower generation in this region, we must act now. The Eastmain-1-A project includes diversion of the Rupert River into the Eastmain watershed, and calls for the construction of four dams, 51 dykes, two diversion bays flooding an area of 395 km2, 12,000 metres of diversion canals or tunnels, and two permanent access roads. Much of the resulting energy will be sold to the United States.

The effects of damming will be long-lasting and widespread. Developments such as this alter, and sometimes reverse, the flow of water, destroying local ecosystems, removing habitat and food for plant and animal populations and affecting areas and populations far downstream.

Furthermore, studies completed by Quebec Hydro have linked hydroelectric development in northern Quebec to increased levels of mercury in nearby ecosystems. This not only poses a problem to fish, plant and wildlife populations, but to the local Cree people for whom both fish and waterfowl are traditional foods.

Hydropower companies have worked hard to create public relations campaigns that position large scale damming as a clean, green energy source, but such mega dam constructions are far from that.

Freddy Jolly has offered his legs and his voice to reiterate the necessity for sustainable energy development. Energy conservation and renewable energy projects are a more appropriate means of meeting today’s energy demands. Those who walked with Freddy could not help but notice the potential for wind power throughout the James Bay region.

Take action to support renewable, sustainable energy projects and oppose mega dam developments on the Rupert and Eastmain rivers. Visit http://www.endangeredrivers.net/eastmain now to send a letter to the Minister of Environment and Minister of Natural Resources of Quebec.

The American Bald Eagle Is Back

The bald eagle, whose numbers had dipped dangerously, is now back from the brink of extinction. Today, thousands of American bald eagles fly the skies of the lower 48 states - a powerful symbol that shows the Endangered Species Act works.

But the Feds Won't Act:

This remarkable recovery should not go unnoticed. In May, Environmental Defense called on President George W. Bush to follow through on the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's (FWS) five-year-old promise to take the bald eagle off the endangered species list. The FWS is still dragging its feet and the bald eagle's dramatic comeback has yet to receive the government's stamp of approval. You can help. Sign the Eagle Pledge and urge President Bush to delist the bald eagle:

http://actionnetwork.org/ct/GpaYwHs1zj8u/

Bald Eagle's Decline and Recovery:

It's hard to imagine that we nearly lost our national symbol. The bald eagle's long decline began in the 19th century as forest clearing, other habitat loss and hunting sharply reduced eagle numbers. Following World War II, the pesticide DDT contaminated fish and other eagle prey. Female eagles laid eggs with shells too thin, which were often crushed by the parent bird, and the eagle's numbers plummeted. By 1963, only 417 pairs remained in the continental United States.

Today, nearly 8,000 pairs nest in the lower 48 states, and Americans can watch bald eagles at wildlife refuges, state parks, national parks, along coastlines, on private lands and in large winter flocks along waterways in almost every state -- thanks in large part to the Endangered Species Act.

Take Action! Sign the Eagle Pledge:

Sign the Eagle Pledge and urge President Bush to take the bald eagle off the endangered species list - a move that would mark the bald eagle's remarkable recovery and give Americans faith in our nation's conservation efforts.

On the Eagle's Tail...

Back from the Brink is a Environmental Defense campaign aimed at shining a spotlight on 15 endangered species that ordinary Americans can help bring back from the brink of extinction. Our commitment is to restore private land habitat in more than 20 states, working with ranchers, farmers and other private landowners, as well as scientists and wildlife experts.

Visit BackfromtheBrink.org to meet the 15 species and find out how you can help:

Proteste wirken!

http://www.regenwald.org

Bitte melden Sie uns, wenn Sie Papier der Marke "Paper One" von APRIL entdecken.

Und leiten Sie diese Mail bitte an möglichst viele Freunde und Bekannte weiter.

Ausserdem:

Bitte helfen Sie auch dem Wald in Ghana (Westafrika). Bitte protestieren gegen den geplanten Goldabbau in Waldreservaten.

Herzlichen Dank
