Powerful Worries: Parents say moving high voltage lines could hurt students

NATICK —

Seeing power lines being strung close to two schools worries some parents, who say the electric lines emit potentially harmful electromagnetic fields.

Jeanne McCabe, who has two sons attending Kennedy Middle School, said she noted that the lines now cross over the signs at the entryway for Kennedy and Brown schools.

The high-voltage line has already caused controversy in the West Natick neighborhood.

Residents concerned about safety risks posed by electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, asked selectmen and the Conservation Commission to delay the work. which was done briefly in February. Ultimately, selectmen decided they did not have the legal power to do so.
