View from England: US Army plagued by desertion and plunging morale

Desertions, legal challenges to "stop loss," opposition to the "back door draft," poor recruiting results, and open confrontations with the Secretary of Defense add up to very serious morale problems among U.S. soldiers fighting in the Iraq War, according to the Times Online. Interestingly, President George W. Bush wants Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to remain in his position while Rumsfeld continues to fail and the situation in Iraq deteriorates further and further into civil war.
